I have been going here since April and it has been the best thing. Everyone is very nice and helpful. We all mind our business and we work out. Love it here.

I have had a wonderful experience at Max! I've been working out here since April and the experience has been great. As a first time gym goer, I was very nervous but it didn't take long to settle in, as the staff is very welcoming and made me feel at home. I have zero complaints and would recommend this place to anyone!

This place is a scam and a half. I moved out of state and forgot to cancel my membership before I left so I called them a week after my moved to cancel and they told me I had to mail them a form. So I did on three separate occasions, they then denied ever receiving the form and continued to charge me. When I contacted them again they told me I had been sent to collections for refusing to pay for a service I said I wanted cancelled.
Long story short: Theyβre crooks and you should work out literally anywhere else. Their facilities are mid at best anyways.

Old aged equipment and manipulative contracts that are by every definition of the word stealing from customers. Legally they have beautiful little contracts to protect them.
I had not been to to the gym in over two years. This was on me for not canceling sooner
I chose to pay that. However I changed credit cards and instead of the contract defaulting to services unrendered. they continued to charge me and defaulted to debt collectors.
After paying for a service I had not used for two years, giving free payments from me, almost a $500 donation so to speak they charged me more and sent me to collections.
Of course they have this pretty little legal contract written in jargon specifically for this. However, treating customers this way, after years of loyal payments is quite frankly disgusting.
They have mediocre old equipment and there's many new gyms with cheaper memberships as well as not treating customers like their own personal piggy bank.

I love this gym! It took me a long time to get comfortable even going INTO the gym, but the environment here has made me so confident in the gym. Iβm in the best shape Iβve been in a long, long time. Iβve lost 80 pounds and, more importantly, Iβve been able to keep it off β all thanks to Max Fitness. The staff and coaches here are truly excellent, supportive, and knowledgeable. The owners are on site every single day and it shows: the equipment is always in great condition, clean, and well-maintained. Thereβs a real sense of community and accountability that you just donβt find at other gyms. Iβve been to several gyms in the area, and none of them come close to the experience and results Iβve had at Max Fitness. Highly recommend!

Max Fitness Baton Rouge is hands down the best gym in town!
From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the clean, well-organized facility and the friendly, welcoming staff. The equipment is top-notch and always in great condition, and thereβs a wide variety, so I never feel like Iβm waiting around to use anything.
What really sets Max Fitness apart is the atmosphereβitβs motivating without being intimidating. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned athlete, everyone seems to feel at home here.
If you're looking for a gym that combines excellent equipment, a supportive community, and a team that truly cares, Max Fitness Baton Rouge is it. Highly recommend!

Amazing place! The owner and workers really care about you! I had a break down in the gym the other day bc my weight wasnt where I wanted it and Christy and the personal trainer took time and talked me through it. 2 days later I got a call from christy checking in on me bc she hadnt seen me and wanted to make sure I was ok. NO OTHER PLACE WOULD EVER BE THAT AMAZING! A few of them have even asked me how my dad has been bc he has been having lots of surgeries! Like what other place would ever do that?!?! The owner is so nice and always gives fist pumps that remind me to keep up the hard work. They all have great personalities and will help you or talk you through anything. They also can joke with you and have a great time. The place is super clean and everyone knows everyone . It really is a family atmosphere and I fee so comfortable here. I am supported and always get positive comments from all staff! NEVER LEAVING THIS PLACE! This is my second home now and I am so thankful for all they have done for me and for not treating me like a number or just a monthly subscription. I recommend this place to all of my own patients. I am never judged and only encouraged. Best gym ive ever been to. Thank you guys for being so amazing and helping me with my journey to getting fit/healthy! I LOVE YALL!!!

I've been going to this gym for a couple of years now. It's very affordable for the selection of equipment and conveniently located near my house. There appear to be a bunch of spammy reviews here by disgruntled people who I suspect have ulterior motives. None of the situations they describe have ever happened to me or anyone I know that uses this gym. Actually speaking to the staff would have solved 99 percent of their problems. As to the guy who wants day care for kids at the gym, please do not heed that suggestion. The reason for my four stars is the short Sunday hours. I work a full week and like to use the weekend to get in workouts. Otherwise, this is a good, affordable, neighborhood gym.

Spent a bit more money due to cancellation before an year. Its something between 50 to 100$ gym development fee as soon as I joined and 30 notice period + 50$ cancellation fee. I was not informed about the 30 day notice period when I joined. Apart from that equipments are good and well maintained. Restroom and showers can be maintained or restructured better.

Whatever you do, do not sign a contract with this gym. I signed a yearly contract and consistently went to this gym for roughly 7 months and it was a decent gym. However, I had to move for my job and so I called and requested to cancel my membership. They denied my cancelation because I didn't live more than 40 miles away, only 32 miles away. So I figured fine ill pay the rest of the year and call it done. Oh boy was I wrong, they reupped me for a full new year without informing or asking me, even after seeing a cancelation request on my account. So after canceling my card on file they proceeded to send my membership to debt collection. Absolutely disgusting business practices.

Omg I would love to give this gym 5 stars for a number of different things but after one of their paid TRAINERS, Keeyon M. Sanders decided to have a melt down in the middle of a session with me because I tried to explain to him that if he NO CALLED NO SHOWED to one of our sessions AGAIN I would have to take my money else where. His response was "I DONT NEED YOU, YOU NEED ME!"
I am only writing this today because he started an instagram page and is now POSTING me and our OLD workouts without my permission. He will not make another dollar off of my name, image, or likeness.
Also nobody in the administration office even bothered to ask me while I was canceling my $300 bi weekly sessions or quitting the gym altogether, which is a little sketchy for a gym if you ask me.

MaxFitness, B.R. is a fantastic gym and workout facility. Lots of great exercise equipment, convenient location, clean facility, and friendly staff. The fees are modest and the personal attention is great. Siblings Christy and John Godwin own and manage this top notch gym. They are typically present, helpful and occasionally, their wonderful dad, Tim, is in the gym to visit and check on their clients. It feels like being greeted by your family as soon as you walk in. They gym itself is pretty good. Good selection of equipment and clean. They had a mask mandate for Covid-19 but didn't enforce it. I talked to employees at least a dozen times and the owner 5 times and it still got worse. The owner even commented to me that "it's ok, if you get it, there's a 98% survival rate". DO NOT SIGN UP!!!!!!! They are VERY deceitful.
When I originally signed up, I was told there was a nutritionist on hand who could help me throughout the week. That was far from true. He was NOT a nutritionist. He gave a generic list to everyone and suggested I eat broccoli and chicken for every meal like he did. He somewhat seemed to care about my workout journey, but he was soon replaced with someone else who requires a fee for ANY help on top of my $40/month membership. Also, they are very smart by "reading" the contract to you and having you sign electronically. I was never told the contract was a 18 month binding contract with few ways to get out. I was only told there was a $50 cancellation fee which did not seem like much because I already agreed to $40/month. I was NOT told the only ways to get out of the contract are if I become disabled, move to a location without a Max Fitness, or my contract time period comes to an end, and of course those three reasons require extensive proof PLUS the $50 fee shipped to Georgia not paid at the Baton Rouge location. This place is a SCAM! They took advantage of me and everyone else who I know who signed up here. Find any other gym to join because this one just wants your money.

Been a member of this gym for awhile. They offer classes now which I have not tried. Have tanning with the contract membership which I don't do. Classes are extra $. Have trainers if you want, also extra. Love it for the variety of machines and cardio equipment. Also have a cardio Cinema which is a separate darker room where they play a different movie each day on a projector. Makes treadmill or bike, etc go by faster.

As far as gyms go this one is the best in BR. Always clean and plenty of equipment. If you lift free weights this is the place to go. If I had not moved 40 minutes away I would still be lifting here.
The only negative comments I had with the gym is a reflection of corporate leadership and policies, not the local gym. John the manager of the BR gym is a great guy and always goes out of his way to help you out.
The contracts for the gym are almost impossible to get out of. Paperwork has to be picked up from the gym and certified mailed to their corporate membership in Georgia. The office in Georgia is hard to get a hold of and hard to deal with. Took three attempts before I even got a call back. I currently live 23 miles from the gym which is within their 30 mile standard for cancellation, but they should factor drive time and traffic time into this equation. Itβs unrealistic to consider an 40-50 minute commute to the gym after work acceptable.
If youβre gonna stay at the gym for the full contract length or do a month to month, I highly recommend joining. The atmosphere is great and the staff is always friendly and helpful.

I love this place. What I love about it more it's that it's not a gossip, meat market type of health club. People that come here come here to workout. The absolute worst experience at a gym in my life. I would NEVER RECOMMEND doing business with this location to ANYONE. I've worked out for 12 years of my life, 5 days a week, and have never come across worse customer service by owners in my life. I worked out at Max Fitness for over 2 years, brought in countless business, and recommendations. I even won contest for the business I brought in. My wife and I moved across town and sought a different gym due to convenience. I went to cancel at Max with only 4 month left, filled out the paperwork, and did everything their website says is needed for cancel. Never heard anything. I contacted the gym 5 separate times, left multiple messages, even spoke with the owner, John Goodwin, personally who said he would contact me, and never heard from ANYONE. They went ahead charged me for the next month without even saying anything and would have charged me the following month without ever contacting me. A whole month passed and no one EVER sent me so much as an email. Eventually, I ended up paying out the rest of my contract to never have to deal with these people again. Learn from my experience and NEVER DEAL BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. It's overly priced and incredibly crowded. Look elsewhere.

Love working out at this gym. Feel very safe when I go there by myself. Safety is very important to me as a woman who sometimes goes after work and leaves as it's getting dark outside. Talked my husband into joining with me. He loves it as much as I do. Hours are convenient and facility is very clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. Would recommend this gym to anyone looking for a workout facility.

Very hard to cancel the membership with them. Hours are terrible on weekends, which is why I wanted to cancel because work got in the way on weekdays.

The equipment is pretty nice. Some of the female workers are extremely rude and make for an unpleasant experience. Particularly, a young lady working the front desk Monday morning December 12. I said good bye and good morning to her and she ignored me both times. I see her fairly often, and she usually has an unappealing attitude. She is not the only person that has been rude.

This is an average gym as far as gyms goβokay equipment and bad hours. However, they do business in an underhanded way. They donβt tell you 3 important things you need to know when you sign up.
1. They charge an annual fee of $42 which they claim they use for maintenance. Remember that they lure you with their supposedly low rates. But you need to add this $42 to the fee youβll pay them.
2. They have a ridiculous cancellation policyβ2 months notice and a paper form sent by certified mail. At any other gym, you can simply go to the desk a month in advance and cancel, no problem. MaxFitness makes you send a form by certified mail to Georgia. From the date you send the form, they add another 30 days to when you can cancelβthis is 2 months from the postmark date. This should really raise all the red flags for you. They are just trying to create obstacles for you and make it harder for you to end your membership. It is just cheap and unacceptable. They donβt tell you about this policy at the beginning either.
3. They won't pro-rate your account--if you miss the monthly pay day, you have to pay for the full month.
The problem with MaxFitness that affects you all the time is their limited hours on the weekends. On Sundays, theyβre only open from 12 to 5. On Saturday, they are open till 6.
You need to think very seriously before joining this gym.

I'm really glad I kept my membership. It's kind of far from where I live but if you like taking high energy classes this is the place to go. The zumba instructor is very fun and keeps you smiling while having a good workout !

This place doesn't have any first aid stuff! I know it's horrible and I noticed that when I injured myself over there... They don't even have an ice bag!!!

Pros: Relatively clean (sometimes the ladies locker room needs attention); good value; lots of treadmills; offers some group fitness classes for a reasonable add on price; good hours of operation to fit most any schedule. Overall, a good value for your $.
Cons: No longer a month-to-month gym; contract is now for one year and this is not advertised. VERY limited group fitness classes and the schedule is erratic and constantly changing. And, not enough variety in group fitness classes; too much focus on Zumba as opposed to core body fitness.

I really like this place. I've been going for about a month there. The owner, John, is a really nice guy. I don't pay for personal trainer services but he is always helpful in answering my questions.
There is a good mix of young and old, newb and experienced people at this gym.

This gym is great !! One of my favorite things about this gym is that it is very clean & nice in the inside, I looked around at other gyms and you can't compare how clean & nice this gym is. Not only that staff is very nice & helpful ! You also can't compare to how affordable this gym is, only $20/ mo.
I also looked at Planet Fitness its $10/mo. I checked that out and seen that they keep their gym clean, but they don't have as many work out equipment as Max Fitness & not only that there are lots of ghetto ppl.
The worst gym I went to is Definitions its $10/mo. as well, but everything in the inside makes me want to puke, its disgusting there and they have treadmills so old that you can consider them as antique & can't run on them
If you really want something that sets you apart from ghetto without breaking your bank, I would say go to Max Fitness

Max is a great gym. I've worked out in numerous gyms around the country and I find that Max is one of the cleanest and nicest gyms. There is a ton, of space so you are never crowed around waiting on the equipment, and the staff is really good and always willing to help. All around a very good gym to work out at with a great atmosphere.

My home away from home! Training staff is super knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Gym staff is always friendly and welcoming. It's awesome that they offer a wide array of equipment for any workout: cardio, cardio theater weights, functional area; they have it all!

I'm using the Living Social deal, for starters.
Here's the thing, I'm going to give you the good (and there's plenty) before I hit you with the bad (relatively substantial).
The Good: It's a pretty quality facility, well-kept and plenty of TVs for your heart's content. It skews a bit towards cardio, which is obvious from the moment you walk in with the overwhelming number of treadmills, but they have a good amount of equipment. As someone who came over from having worked out at the LSU UREC for three years, I would say it's about even in terms of their respective workout facilities. Same amount of machines, free weights, dumbbells and the like. Max Fitness has more treadmills, of course, and they have a "theater room" that plays a different "recent" movie everyday. Recent is relative, but its usually no older than a couple years. But who comes to the gym looking for new release blockbusters? I haven't been during their rush hours, but I went around 5:30-5:45ish and it wasn't too crowded, I didn't have to wait for machines (though I'm really impatient and efficient, so if it looks occupied, I just move to the next part of my workout and come back to it later, so maybe I'm a bad example for you). The people are pretty quiet, mostly everyone is in pretty good shape, not sure if they're friendly or not, but no one was an outright a-hole.
The Bad: This is what you will notice more than anything else: location. Honestly, unless you live in the neighborhood immediately beside the place, the location is absolutely terrible. Not because it's in a bad neighborhood, far from it. It's because unless you're coming during off-hours like 10am or 2pm, you're going to hit traffic. There's only one in town, so you have to endure it. There's no easy way to get there, no main roads that intersect with it. And if, like me, you cared more about price than convenience, this still might not be worth it in the long run. I live off of South Flannery and I work downtown; no matter which one I come from, its a substantial gas drain to get there. Maybe you live nearby, but if you're more than, say, 5 miles out, you might want to look elsewhere. In terms of pricing, since I'm still on the LS deal, I'm only paying $23 for the whole three month trial period, so I haven't felt the price burn yet, but from the contract you sign, they have some hidden fees that kind of suck. Plus, the enrollment fee. So even with their basic membership, you're going to be coming out about $60 that first month. That may actually be me misremembering (my own word, sue me), it might be higher. Also, things are a bit tight, but not overwhelmingly so. I compare everything to the UREC, so by comparison, you're probably losing about 4-6" per machine/bench/treadmill. Like I said, not so bad that it would cause you to turn away entirely but you certainly notice it when you walk in. The really high ceilings take some of that tight feeling away, though.
So, in conclusion, it's good for the money, but if you want accessibility and a more open-layout, you may want to do a more thorough comparison shop before you select Max. Max Fitness is OK, but not great.

This is a used car salesmen's paradise. The fluffy haired owner will promise things he won't follow through with. The cancellation policy is easy enough if you can wait for him to finish with pretending to be busy to actually hand you a form. If you try to cancel he will offer to switch your membership over to someone else or give a free membership to a friend or anything else to keep you paying your 21.75. My membership got cancelled because i wear a sleeveless shirt when i lift weights. Funny, girls can wear sports bras when they lift.

This gym is terrible. You get what you pay for. Their hours are very short. They gym gets packed, a lot of their equipment squeaks or makes a lot of noise; indicating the equipment is uncared for. Also, dont be enticed by the cardio theater. Once the equipment is going while you are on it, you won't be able to hear it at all.
The staff is unprofessional and rude. If you have a problem with the membership they treat you like a child. The staff is also rude, incompetent, and childish.
The cancellation policy is fair, but the front desk people do not know what they are talking about. NO MATTER WHAT YOU ARE TOLD, you must get a form from them send it certified mail (about $8) to Georgia. It must be reviewed and approved and they start the 30 day notice from there. Do not trust what the front desk tells you.
Also, their motto that it is "19.95 a month no catches" Don't forget once a year they will charge you a high fee to keep it at that rate. I consider that a catch.

Impossible to cancel membership. Moved away and of course they 'lost' my papers to say I am quitting. Continues to charge and will not listen to reason. When quiting be sure to send you papers as Certified mail so they cannot claim they did not get them. They act like bullies when it comes to money and it almost feels like I fell for a scam signing up with them when I was in Baton Rouge for a year or so. The personnel are not nice to work with and I really wish I never signed up there in the first place.
