As a longtime Club Manager at Planet Fitness in Loves Park, with extensive experience in the fitness industry, I find the conduct of the employee at the Planet Fitness location at 5711 Erie Drive to be completely unacceptable and unprofessional.

A veteran with a legitimate service animal was denied access to the facility, which is a direct violation of ADA regulations and Planet Fitness corporate standards. Even more concerning is that the employee failed to contact upper management or a supervisor for clarification before making this decision.

Additionally, the employee was not wearing a name tag and conducted himself in a dismissive and arrogant manner, demonstrating a serious lack of professionalism. This behavior not only disrespects the individual involved, especially a veteran, but also exposes the company to significant legal and reputational risk.

Given the severity of the incident, the employee should face formal disciplinary action, and termination should be strongly considered. At minimum, immediate corrective action and retraining are warranted. This situation is an embarrassment to the brand and directly contradicts the inclusive values Planet Fitness claims to uphold.

I recently saw where a veteran was declined entry with his certified service dog. I wouldn't recommend any location that treats our veterans like that snd goes against the laws. Well maintained gym, including hand sanitizers are stocked. Only advice is that they leave the TVs tuned to the stations that are labeled. There were multiple TVs tuned to the Shopping Channel and Home Improvement Network, that should have been tuned to the local stations. Other than that the gym is 5 stars!

The assistant manager MONTESHA HUDSON is a great asset to this facility. She ALWAYS has a warm smile and greeting everytime i go into the gym and exudes a comfortable atmosphere to every guest i have seen her deal with. EDITED June 2024: 75% of the treadmills are not working. The HIIT room has people in and out who are not following the sequence but using selected machines for sets, sitting on their phones and therefore impeding people who are trying to utilize that area for its 30 minute workout cycle. Where is the staff to supervise this? Machines in that area have sticky weights so that they drag when you try to move them.

Old review: So far so good. No contact scanner at the front, but then no one has to interact with you. There is someone manning the counter. I haven't tried their massage chairs or tanning options yet. It as 5am so not many people there. A LOT of treadmills and more ellipticals and stair climbers. There is a small section of free weights and another with some machines for a variety of muscle groups. There is a separate area where you can spend twenty minutes of targeted time doing interval training working cardio and strength. Another area has options like battling ropes, kettlebells and resistance bands.

I joined this location in February 2024. Since joining I have had no complaints until being asked to provide a picture by the store manager Voss. I expressed to Voss that I did not want to take a picture due to personal reasons. Voss then stated that taking the picture was mandatory in order to identify myself. I then told Voss that I would provide identification each time in order for the club to verify me. Voss stated that this was fine. When coming into the club today, I was stopped at the front by a team member who in turn asked me to take a picture again. I then stated that I spoke with Voss previously and that he stated brining in my ID would be fine. The employee then goes to get Voss and Voss comes to the front and asked me take another picture. I told him that in our previous conversation that he stated my ID would be fine. Voss then goes on to say that he just excused me for that day and that I would need to provide a picture. Nowhere in the policy and procedure does it state that I have to take a picture or will not have access to the facility. I asked Voss to show me that in the policy and Voss could not provide it. Voss proceeded to state in a condescending tone to take a picture or cancel my membership. Then looks over at his employee to proceed with canceling my membership. I was taking back by the unprofessionalism of Voss. Also, Voss should have stated the previous time that my ID would not be valid each time, instead of telling me that it would be. If this gym was being run correctly, then on the day I joined, a picture should have been mentioned then. Not three months into my membership. But due to his lack of management he didn’t catch that I had no picture until 3 months later. A lying, condescending manager is who is representing this company and location and I would not recommend it. Choose a different location to spend your money at monthly since most are privately operated. I also asked to speak with the owner of this location and Voss stated that there was no one over him. I then stated that there’s always someone over you. You are just the store manager. Will be contacting corporate and will hopefully be contacted by the location owner.

Even during peak hours, I was able to use the equipment that I wanted. This is my very first time with a gym, and I'm kind of a big girl. There were loads of other women who looked like me there and I felt extremely comfortable and safe.

I was sad to have to cancel my membership at this gym but I simply could not take the loud music anymore. I joined a gym, not a dance club. When I asked them to turn it down "a little" because even though I was wearing noise cancelling headphones I still couldn't concentrate on the podcast I was listening to, the guy at the front just said no. No explanation of why, no explanation of policies, just NO. I need a place to work out, not a place that's gonna give me a panic attack. Do better, y'all.

OTR truck driver here, I stop at a lot of planet fitness gyms so that I can get a workout and shower on my 10hour breaks. I stopped here late night on 08.15 and I was soooooo satisfied. I came through the door to a great smiling worker who was friendly. Reaches the desk to two more friendly workers. Everything was clean. Very nice layout. On my way out, received even more friendly service. I always take Clorox or Lysol wipes in showers with me, used them here and wasn’t any dirt on the wipes. So showers were cleaned well. 5/5 HIGHLY recommend. ( If you are a trucker, I’d suggest dropping your trailer at the Walmart 2.1 miles around the corner. Not much room for truck and trailer in the parking lot.)

WOW...I am so upset right now. I canceled my membership on 5.14.23. At the time of cancellation, I was given a membership cancellation form that stated that I had no balance and no fees. I looked at my account a few days ago and I have been charged since May 17. I contacted Planet Fitness to determine why my account was still being billed and was told by Manager, Voss Wright, that I had to pay for early cancellation. I advised the manager that my receipt and next bill date(which was also printed on the form)stated that I didn't owe anything. He said that he would stop the drafts from my account and would reimburse me for this month but that he could not reimburse May. I reiterated that my cancellation form stated that I had no balance. He put me on hold and never came back to the phone. I waited for more than ten minutes. The associate(Porshe, was the name she gave me)picked up the phone and then when I said hello, she hung up on me. I called back and Porshe answered. She explained that the manager advised her to tell me that he was going to return my funds. I told her that she hung up on me and that I would be contacting the corporate office because their interaction with me was extremely unprofessional. I wasn't rude, loud or obnoxious toward their team members. I asked for her name again and she hung up on me for a third time. That is unacceptable! As someone who has worked in customer service for more than 25 years, blatantly being dismissive toward a customer is counterproductive for any business. Planet Fitness on Youree Drive has truly disappointed me and I will make sure that EVERYONE I know hears about this treatment. Efficiently training your staff would prohibit such discrepancies from occurring, as well as, prevent the offenses that I and the staff members felt.

Great place, good equipment. We go in the middle of the night so we only see 2-3 of the employees that work there. One of the guys is the nicest most friendly human on the planet, the other is pretty cool, but the third guy (who worked tonight 6/18 when we were there between 12am-1am) is so rude that it makes me want to go someplace else. He does his job but the way he goes about it is not cool. He barely speaks (unless you bring a friend, then he requires name number age DOB gender and blood sample), he seems to be more worried about his homework or whatever he’s doing on his computer. And tonight, my friend wanted to check out the tanning lotions and took a half a step towards the desk and was basically accosted by this individual for “getting too close”. So, they lost a sale. Are you guys intending on repairing the many broken/poorly maintained machines? There is one chest machine that has been down for about two months and many others that have been neglected. So many have seats that cannot be adjusted and it’s obvious that basic maintenance is not done at all. I’m not going to continue to pay for poor quality equipment and I know I’m not the only person who is considering going to other locations. Furthermore I am disturbed at the number of members who do not clean their machines after use. If staff were observant and not on their phones they would see this as well. In my 60's. Doctor ' s Orders to get back to exercising because of Health issues.
Just started , however I feel safe , it is sanitized well, and as stated on the walls, I feel I am not being judged, and I can exercise at my own pace. So far I am pleased. Hopefully, if I decide I have to cancel membership in the future , I will not experience a negative service that read about concerning a former member, who was there for 10 plus years. As I stated Doctor's Orders, I was walking, but needed more. For now I am Okay, and pleased.
