Great gym. First this gym is small so I wasn't expecting it to be much. But then when you get on the routes they are definitely correct rated. Unlike the mass gyms in the East and West coast these routes are graded correctly (maybe a few sand bagged).

Been going there for 20 years when it was under a different name. Great time to spend an afternoon and work some functional muscles. My biggest complaint is there are some easy routes and some very difficult routes and not enough medium routes, and also many of the 5.9 and 5.10’s would be rated much more difficult in other places.

I just wrapped up my last class and I am exceedingly satisfied with my experience at Southern Stone. John has every quality that makes an excellent teacher. He's informed, professional, encouraging and patient with beginners. I am stoked to continue climbing here!

A small no frills facility with top-rope, auto-belays, and boulders. The boulders are pretty fun and pleasantly sandbagged, but don't expect any fiberglass holds; the bouldering has a home wall feel. Definitely enjoyable so long as you are not expecting a commercial gym. There is a 2017 MoonBoard at 40° and some free weights upstairs but unfortunately this costs an additional $5 dollars on top of the day pass to access. No real fitness area to speak of, no showers. At the time I went there were about 40 boulders ranging from V1-V9

Been going to Southern Stone for nearly 3 years now. Indoor climbing is such an awesome time for those of any experience level. Great for a day of fun and there’s climbs for all levels. Probably one of the most addicting and enjoyable forms of exercise there is. It’s an excellent value for the membership as well as for the day pass, you get the opportunity to connect and meet lots of great people, the gym sets are challenging which means you’ll have room for growth for years to come, there’s also weight training, hangboards, campus boards, and a new Moonbord! If you are new to climbing, get a day pass to see how you like it. If you know you love it after the first couple of sessions, then it will be worth it to get the membership. It pays for itself after about 4 visits in the month, so one day a week to have your membership more cost effective than the day pass. Beware to those coming in on the weekends, it opens from 12 to 6pm. You’ve got to visit here! Amazing time!

Whoa! Now ladies and gentlemen, this is one hell of a spot. If you're looking for fast friends, super friendly and helpful staff, and delicious Italian desserts hand-made by a young man's grandmother, this is a place to visit. My girlfriend and I stopped by for something new and we showed up here with not a sliver of experience. However, with the help of Andrew(I'm so sorry if I get your name wrong) we got the hang of it and had a blast. The place was super lit up and welcoming and I love a good challenge. If you're new, or experienced, and have never tried it before, I'd highly recommend it guys!

I visited this gym while passing through Lafayette on a road trip. The routes are much more like outdoor climbing than comp style, and there was a good variety of intermediate level climbs. The gym is a bit small compared to commercial bouldering gyms, but the routesetting and the staff were great. Definitely worth a visit!

It's hard to find somewhere to climb in one of the flattest places in the country, so I am so thankful Lafayette had access to a place like Southern Stone! My only complaint is that the vast majority of the rope routes are on inverted walls, and most of the bouldering is on overhang. It's always good to be pushed to practice what I don't like but I do sometimes wish there was more technical/balancy/crimped climbing!

Best experienced in person. Nothing like it in the area. Greatest staff in Louisiana. You have any questions from, "how do I put this harness on" to "what's the best places to climb outdoors." John will tell you all that he knows. Super friendly environment where we all are there to just have fun, help each other out, and laugh. Want to climb alone? Sure! No one will bother you. Want to be challenged by others? Plenty of that on just about any night. Great exercise and even greater fun. Worth every penny.

10/10/21 Came here for the first time at noon.
John is a very awesome instructor: he even took pictures for my friend and I on his own volition--that was a great added touch of customer service!

I have minimal athletic ability, and I still had a great time.

Such a great experience! We had a group of 6-8 people. The owner, Jonathan, was a great instructor: knowledgeable, helpful and patient as our group learned the basics. From the environment of the facility to the staff, everything was 5 star. Our group will definitely be coming back to host more events with Southern Stone!

The staff is extremely rude, yelling at the costumers for nothing, putting their hands in costumers faces and talking down to them. There's barely any walls or challenges, very expensive for the little bit there is to do. I would not recommend wasting your money or time over there. Very horrible place to be.

My boyfriend and I have been two weekends in a row now and the staff is super friendly and informed.
On our most recent visit one of the employees would periodically walk around and give tips or applaud us. At one point he noticed me struggling with a V0 and told me it's a garbage route for the rating and directed me to another spot where he gave me general pointers. I'd told him I'd tried it earlier but didn't finish it because I was scared. In the best way possible he peer pressured me in front of the cool kids (the regulars that were doing crazy hard routes) and encouraged me to work past my fear and complete the route.

I will say that it was a good experience. I went 3/3/2018 on a Friday. I was happy. I fell a few times but John encouraged me to try again.

He hooked the line to an easier course and I aced it. I told him that I would be back and I will. I want to climb the big wall and be successful at it. I will definitely be back.
