I was there approximately 2 weeks ago with the Kreole Klassic. Golf cart in our group experienced a flat. No ice available at the clubhouse. And after we finished in record heat, the waitress told everyone associated with our group that we had to go outside to eat and drink...after everyone was already inside eating and drinking. (She was lucky no one embarrassed her in the moment.)

Our group of 100% African American golfers held a tournament at National Golf Course Westlake and were shocked at the discriminatory treatment we received. We were forced to sit outside and denied service inside the clubhouse. This was not only unprofessional but blatantly exclusionary.
No paying guests should ever be treated this way. If you value respect, fairness, and equal treatment, think twice before bringing your business here. Management needs to address this immediately.

Last Saturday August 16,2025 during a planned tournament with over 50 players prepaid we were treated like a hindrance to the general manager of this golf course! Post round when returning the some players were literally refused inside service at the clubhouse restaurant THE MAX for no reason whatsoever. We were told by the hostess to GO OUTSIDE like we were a heard of cattle after a 5 hour round in 90 degree heat and humidity! They would not take any orders or be seated by direction of the manager! Post round the tournament coordinator was told that because of us the member couldnβt play as if we played for free when in fact we had to PRE PAY! Iβm not sure why we were treated this way but I would hate to think it was because the group was 100% African American men! We have frequented this golf course for multiple years and this is the 1st time this happened but the course is under new General Management and things drastically changed from previous years! WILL NOT BE GOING BACK

After hosting my golf tournament at the National on Saturday, August 16th, it is a must that I share the negative experience.
1. Not one but 3 golf carts experienced malfunctions. (2 flat tires) (1 weak battery) Note that it took some 20-25 minutes for carts to be replaced. Ive been playing golf over 40+ years, never before have 3 carts failed in an event that I've participated in. Lack of ice for the entire golf course. Not the fault of staff. Fault is directed at the management! Much needed customer service skills improvement on behalf of Austin the golf Director and Jaime Perkins, General Manager. Excuses were provided for the lack of maintenance with the golf carts. Tires were bald on most carts within our groups that passed us while waiting for our cart to be replaced. Explanation was that The National host some 160 tournaments throughout the year. So does Koasati Pines, so does The Golden Nugget, so does L'auberge. No flat tires or issues when playing these courses on Friday & Sunday. Note, I have hosted my tournament here for over 10+ years. No issues prior to this year. Jevon Perry previous Golf Director, excellent job!! Kudos for a job we'll done by Hunter Parker, Golf Pro. Hunter & other staff members went above & beyond to make our tournament a success. Leadership changes need to be made in my opinion. It was mentioned by Jaime Perkins the course loss money as a result of our group's slow play! Wow!! Enough said. Don't waste your money or time playing this course until changes have been made within the leadership at this course!! Mayor Hal McMillan did listen to my concerns. I appreciate his time but pretty much attempted to smooth over the concerns I brought to his attention. Our group will spend our hard earned money with the courses that appreciate us being there!!

I participated in an annual golf tournament this past weekend with a group called the Kajun Klassic. We had well over 50 players to participate. Afterwards, all of the golfers (all people of color except one person) were inside the clubhouse ordering food and cooling off among other things. The reason we were cooling off was because the course did not have ice to supply the players on one of the hottest days to play in August. Besides that, while we were all inside laughing and having a good time, one of the waitresses stood on a chair and yelled βIf you played in the Kajun Klassic, you need to go outside.β There was no explanation as to why. I canβt speak for everyone but I do know that several of us players were very upset and felt disrespected. Weβre direct a lot of money at the course and did not feel we were appreciated. Perhaps if the young lady would have taken a second to explain the why, it would have been better received. Additionally, we were told that we would have an opportunity to eat gumbo or jambalaya, however, that was never offered. Itβs pretty sad that in 2025 people of color seemed to keep getting disrespected. Never going back to the National.

Golf course was great but had an issue at the start with the Marshall, we booked 4 and complained it had 3 on our tee off time then held us up for about 10 minutes complaining then letβs us play. After he complained he proceeded to talk to the guys behind us and complain to them about us which is very unprofessional.

Glad to find a decently priced golf course in the area, since the ones in lake Charles are so expensive. Course was nice and didnβt really have any complaints. Probably the most sand bunkers at a course Iβve played, making for a nice challenge.

The Nationalβs greens are in terrible shape! Many of them are UNputtable depending upon where the pins are placed. There is NO reason to charge guests the FULL fee for this nonsense!

I would highly discourage anyone from playing here if smooth greens is what you care about. There are little tufts of grass all over the green that make it impossible to get a true roll. Hopefully this goes away by summer, but until then call the course to make sure theyβre cleaner. Otherwise, the $50 for twilight would be an okay price for a fun layout and some challenging holes. Fairways are in great condition but bunkers donβt drain too well. Pace of play works out well for the course (4 people all shooting +25 in our group in 4 hrs 15). One of the best practice facilities in the area and a great clubhouse.
Hopefully the Poa Annua will be under control soon and then this will be a 5 star course again!

I have played at golf courses all over the United States and I have never seen a course over book tee times and follow players harassing them and talking to pregnant women like dirt. Forcing you to skip holes until you are waiting at every tee box with no one on the hole behind you. Literally the rudest man I've ever meet in general. You would think with as many bad reviews that they get about him that they would reign him in.

Play here multiple times a year. Condition the greens are in I wouldnβt pay $4.80 let alone $48. Poa Annua has completely overtaken half the greens. Might as well be on the price is right and plinko putt. Sand traps 4/10. Tee boxes 7/10. Overall course (without greens) 8/10

Better than prior Mallard cove. Greens were great. Fairways were great. Nice new pro shop. Nice selection of items . Some items were not priced and had to ask. Pro shop attendant did not know the prices. Some holes had ruts where the mower did not realize it was wet. You would think he would realize that by hole 3. Would have been a higher rating but staff could have been more welcoming. Greeted staff at 7 am with a βgood morningβ and got a βwe are not open yetβ response. Tee time was at 7:30. Door was open with lights on. One range ball box for range balls, waiting for people to either wait for balls or wait for their credit card to approve or disapprove the charge at the box. Never saw the cart girl once except by the pro shop.

I recently had the misfortune of visiting National golf club and I must say it was an absolutely dreadful experience. I expected to enjoy a relaxing day of golfing in a pleasant environment, but instead, I found myself subjected to the unprofessional and abusive behavior of the course marshal.
From the moment I arrived, it was evident that the staff lacked proper training in customer service. The marshal, who is supposed to ensure a smooth pace of play and maintain order, seemed to relish in his role as the chief offender of common courtesy. Instead of providing helpful guidance and support, he chose to berate and cuss out unsuspecting players, turning what should have been a leisurely day into a stressful ordeal.
The marshal's demeanor was nothing short of appalling. He would yell profanities at players for the slightest infractions, such as taking a few extra seconds to return to club house due to weather. His choice of language was both offensive and uncalled for, making the atmosphere tense and uncomfortable for everyone on the course.
It's important to note that the marshal's behavior was not an isolated incident. Multiple groups of players were subjected to his tirades, causing widespread dissatisfaction and ruining what should have been an enjoyable outing. Instead of feeling welcomed and encouraged, we felt intimidated and disrespected.
Moreover, it appeared that the management of the golf course had turned a blind eye to this issue. Despite numerous complaints from players, no action was taken to address the marshal's behavior or reprimand him for his unprofessional conduct. It was evident that customer satisfaction was not a priority for the management, as they failed to provide a safe and respectful environment for their customers. We played a total of about 10 holes and still did not get granted any compensation when they cancelled the round.
In conclusion, my experience at National Golf Club was marred by the deplorable behavior of the course marshal and the lack of attention given to customer satisfaction by the management. I strongly advise golf enthusiasts to steer clear of this establishment until they take significant steps to address these issues. There are far better options available that prioritize professionalism, courtesy, and the overall quality of the golfing experience.

Me and my buddies used to play this course all the time, and it was awesome. The greens were in great shape along with the tee boxes. Now its a goat ranch, the greens are beat up, and have patches of grass all growing through, and the tee boxes are REAL bad. The course is phenomenal when its taken care of, and i hope it gets back to the way it used to be. For the price its just not worth it, Mallard, and even Frasch at this point is a better price and course. Not to mention holly beach, I mean, the bunkers are trash.

Condition is rough on fairways and on greens. Had a 3:00 tee time, we were sent out behind 2 foursomes of (high school girls)? Second group was one hole behind after 2 holes. What a great way to start a round. It took forever to pay at pro shop since they had to manually key in all info. Itβs not cheap enough to put up with this kind of management. .

My father and I have played this course twice and both times we had the Marshal rushing us. The second time we played was worse than the first time to the point we could not enjoy the game because we were rushing to get to the next hole as if it was a race. I'm 37 years old and my dad is 58. We have been playing golf since the mid 1990's. We are not great golfers but we are not the worst either. Our golf scores average in the mid to low 80's and we know and respect golf etiquette. This course needs a reminder that not all golfers are pros and the game is not a race but a time to enjoy the game with friends and family.

Update 4.25.18: The GM contacted me the very next day (on a Sunday!) and apologized. He was extremely nice and helpful and even remembered me when I showed up in person with my husband to his golf clinic. I've altered my rating simply due to this man's response and willingness to make things right. He is very personable.
Previous review: I have never been to a golf course with such a RUDE staff. They were the definition of jerks. We came in for super twilight golf with an ad sent to our emails with a special promotion pricing. NO COMPANY EVER asks to actually see the email....as long as it's mentioned, you get the deal. THIS POORLY MANAGED AND TRAINED facility acted dumb when my husband and uncle mentioned they thought the price was 17.50 for super twilight when they were told it was 36 and the person behind the counter told them it was just for members. ABSOLUTELY NOT. He damn well knew about the promotion. My husband and uncle paid for it not realizing the conniving jerk behind the counter expected you to show the ad and when I brought it to his attention afterwards the director...the old guy with a scowl on his face 24/7....the brother of the nice previous director just came out, looked at us and told us his attendant was right...and walked back to his office. The GM was also in the office and didn't give a flying hoot. No refund was given....just the offer for credit. DO YOU THINK WE WANT TO PLACE AT THIS RIDICULOUS COURSE AFTER HOW WE WERE TREATED?? Also, you need to be aware of how you talk to people because you never know who you are making these remarks to. Keep that in mind. We def. will make sure to tell everyone we know or work with about this horrible experience.
