What an absolute scam!! I am absolutely discussed by this establishment. I canceled my membership over 2 years ago and moved away. I was paid in full and the card on file was being charged every month. After moving, the credit card that was put on file had been canceled.

Instead of canceling my service like I asked, the gym decided I only wanted a six month pause. For some reason the gym restarted my membership without contacting me or having a valid card on file to charge. They decided to keep racking up charges without contacting me or without a valid card on file.

I received a letter in the mail that the Zoo retained a debt collection agency and wants over $250. What?!?.. Go pound sand.. I am in awe of their gross incompetence..

Usually a subscription based service is automatically cancelled If there is no valid card on file… especially if you already cancel the service! This is malicious intent and they should be ashamed… Beware!

I have been a member of the Zoo since it was opened. But Amanda by far is the best Desk representative and greeter the zoo has ever had. She has a great personality, always very helpful and very polite. It is obvious that customer service is her number one priority when she’s behind the desk.

I cancelled my membership in November 2023, filled out the paperwork and everything, but I’m still getting calls from debt collector that I owe them money. I’ve been in contact with numerous front desk people explaining the situation and waiting for a manger to call me, but have still not yet gotten a call. I’m also reading all these reviews they are saying the same thing, so DO NOT get a membership here. They do not care about their customers and seem to be scamming people with their money.

Updated review 2024. Horrible new ways of payment. Upfront prices are not even close to the final pricing.

Do not recommend. I’d opt in to planet fitness for the best experience even thought their contract based subscription is stupid but you get the same here for more money and less equipment maintenance.

From experience I recommend you stay away from here.

You can get what you need done in the gym. Also have amazing personal trainers that give you an amazing workout experience. I work out with angelle, her workouts cover the cardio you need as well as feeling ylof accomplished after each work out no matter how tired you are.

This has to be the biggest joke of a gym I've ever inadvertently joined. I've never experienced worse customer service in my life. I have tried to cancel my gym membership on 6 separate occasions but each time either no one was working or I was told that a "manager" had to be there to cancel for me. Well I work 9-6 and a manager is never there so it's apparently impossible for me to cancel. Even on Saturdays the regular staff is unable to cancel me. I didn't even join this gym!! I was a member from french Riviera and somehow my membership transferred to Kenner of all places. Well I live in New Orleans and I'm not driving all the way to Kenner to workout. That's ridiculous. From what I've been told by the manager at The Zoo who never likes to work on weekends or after 6pm, is that over 2,000 members from French Riviera "transferred" to the zoo all while hurricane Ida was happening. So if the lowest monthly membership is $25 and you have 2,000 members transferring over you'd think that SOMEONE would oversee this $600,000 yearly transition over and make it smooth. Not at all! Not only was nobody adequately noticed of this transition but canceling this questionably legal monthly service has been impossible with the incompetent management currently in place. I have tried via email and written mail to cancel and yet I still have their third party billing department accruing fees on an account I never consented to initiating. Honestly, their billing department should just run the show cuz they're the only people that have their stuff together. Screw this place. Go to planet fitness. It smells anyway.

the equipment is always broken the stair master machine been out for months worked for a week now it’s back out ,some treadmills don’t allow you to increase the speed, ellipticals are falling apart and not allowing you to pedal,
The girls locker room handicap stall has been out of order for almost a year now, the a/c unit is either not working or when it is working dipping all over creating a hazard and makes the place stink( since it is a gym and no air means hot sweat,etc) and they don’t clean the floors
Make sure you don’t go here i canceled my account and was told it wouldn’t be canceled until 30 DAYS after and in the meantime was charged a annual fee that they expected me pay EVEN THO I HAD CANCELED AND NOT GO TO THE GYM! they tell you it’s in a contract you never see!!!

I have never felt the need to make a bad review but this place truly deserves it. I was a member of French Rivera for over a year and tried to cancel my membership with them multiple times after my contract but they would say I would have to come or call back every time. In September I received an email stating all memberships would be transferred to the zoo. Since then I have tried to cancel with them as well. I have emailed the Ashley Jackson who FR said would β€œhelp” with the transition multiple times with no response. I have called the gym multiple times, which every person I speck to says David the manager will call back, which he has not. They also informed me that my account will not be canceled until 30 days after David cancels it, which how can that happen when my phone calls are never answered. I contacted corporate as well, and with no surprise no response. This gym is just a money grabbing scheme. THEY HAVE LITERALLY TAKEN HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FROM MY ACCOUNT AND I HAVE NEVER STEPPED FOOT IN THIS GYM! If I could give zero stars I would, this place is a joke.

I've never left a bad review anywhere in my life, but this place deserves it. I was previous member of French Riviera Fitness. On 9/7/2021, FRF sent an email stating that the gym was closing and that memberships would be honored at the Zoo. There was no opt-in or opt-out given. This notice also occurred shortly after Hurricane Ida, when I and many others were displaced and without any power to our homes. I was directed to the Zoo to deal with my membership. When I called the Zoo to cancel, as it is nowhere near me and I'm not going to a strange gym during a pandemic, I was told that I could not cancel my membership without 30 days' notice, despite the fact that I myself did not have 30 days' notice of my former gym's closure. I think it is reprehensible that the Zoo would not offer an exception to people who literally could not give 30 days' notice, and were in the midst of grappling with a natural disaster to boot. Additionally, I had to drive out of my way to cancel in person, as they would not accept email or phone cancellations. There were also very few masks to be seen, though there is a current mask mandate.

I am now forced to pay for a month of service which I certainly will not use, and I will do everything I can to discourage anyone from giving this shady place business. The owners should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of people in this mercenary way, and should donate any additional revenue they generate from forcing people into memberships they neither agreed to nor can escape from to Hurricane Ida relief efforts.

David, the new manager, was very kind and professional. The star on this post goes to him, as the owners certainly do not deserve it.

I went one morning, I forgot I canceled the credit card used for the gym. She said there was a problem with my membership card, that they didn't have a card on file for me... I honestly completely forgot about it and was about to put another card for the remaining 2 weeks I had left in Louisiana... She personally told me that it wasn't worth it since 2 weeks is actually more expensive than the month plan! I was like fine! I'll just leave then, she never told me anything more than that. 2 months later, I get a call from the zoo that I have a balance with them. I call the zoo, they said they tried contacting me since May for my charges and that my account had a balance of over 100 since May to July due to delinquent fees. I never received a call from them, no emails, nothing yet they said they tried contacting me several times. I will never attend a zoo gym club for their poor practice ever again! Be careful when enrolling at the gym so you don't get screwed over like I was.
Update: I paid my fees, called the manager there to cancel my membership! She said she would cancel the membership as soon as the payment cleared! It cleared but guess what! she forgot to cancel the membership... So imagine my frustration when I saw that the zoo charged me an additional month after I thought I was completely done with them! I cannot stress it enough! The administrative people there seem to be very inefficient. The manager who worked on the 16 of July screwed me over! I am so appalled by the way they operate. Beware!

Update 3: I just realized after reading some additional low ratings that my cancellation issue is not an isolated case. I guess they do trick it in such a way so that they can still get money from customers that want to leave. Despicable! Wish there was a legal way to fix this.

Be careful with canceling your membership! The zoo has a bank that pays for the year while you pay monthly. I went and canceled my membership but they didn’t report it to the bank and I was getting sued from them. Didn’t want to pay for attorney I paid the whole years worth! Go to a gym with month to month instead of a 1 year contract.

I had a similar experience to another reviewer: charged after being told my membership was expiring. I called in earlier knowing my membership would be ending soon and wanted to confirm that. They confirmed 2/17/17 was the last day of my membership but I was charged again on 2/21/17-thinking it was a simple error they would reverse and apologize, instead after speaking to Paige the manager I was told the information I was given in my previous call was incorrect. Instead of apologizing for their misinformation asking how she could make this right, she changed she subject, repeating their membership policy. I reminded her this issue is regarding misinformation provided to me by a gym employee. She said her employees are trained and correctly informed. I asked if that was true why was I confirmed my membership ending on the 17th and still charged after that? She repeated their membership policy. I reminded her again, I am not arguing with the policy, I'm complaining that I was given false information from a gym employee. She repeated, her employees are trained and well informed. I disagree. The gym itself was ok. However, I did not have a contract and was month to month. When i wanted to cancel I had to send an email 30 days prior to my last month. I sent an email waited two months and heard nothing from them. When I called the girl told me that's the only way to cancel. So I ended canceling my debit card because I wasn't going nor did I have a contract and I haven't heard back from them. Then I get a call from a random number (Lawyer's office) saying the zoo is taking me to court and I would have to pay $1000. But they can settle it for $300. I ended paying it because i didnt want to deal w the bull. I did keep my receipt. And I did look up the lawyers office info to make sure it was legit before making a payment. Just want to give you the heads up! You're welcome!

Great customer service! I had to cancel my membership after my 12 month term was up. I followed the directions and everything was cancelled how it should have been. Gyms will always get a bad rep when it comes to cancellations but I would recommend this gym to anybody. You can tell they aren't about the dollar.

Billing system is terrible. Got quoted and a contract to prove the monthly amount, however they keep charging me more every month.This is my 3rd mo.trying to get this fixed. Everyone i spoke w sees the mistake , and is trying to help. But getting a manager to fix the problem is a big PROBLEM

Decent gym for the price. However, terrible billing instead of being 10 a month there is also a set up fee and a yearly improvement fee. Charging extra fees after the membership was cancelled. Trying to squeeze one more improvement fee in with a a customer that cancelled after yars of membership. Referring to the timing of the billing as an excuse.

The Zoo Health Club has been more than accommodating to me. I love the facilities and the staff. Everyone was more than helpful and beyond kind. I had to cancel my membership only after a couple of months do to certain life circumstances. The staff was incredibly sweet and made me feel valued even though they were losing me as a customer. They showed they are all about their members' needs and well being over making money. I will definitely come back to The Zoo when things get better! This gym is too crowded due to cheap price which means waiting to use a bench or machine. No one re-racks weights so they are scattered all over the floor. Equipment is below average quality also this place smells awful its not just when their are 100 plus sweaty people i started going late at night and it was just as bad. I've never once seen a staff​ member clean I'm sure the odor has something to do with that.

The men's restroom ALWAYS smells like urine. There are too many treadmills not enough "alternative" cardio machines (i.e. Arc trainer, curve treadmill). The exercise bikes that aren't locked up are garbage. The spin bikes are ALWAYS locked up except for a spin class.

These people are very dubious. I was charged some late fees and i talked to a girl at the front desk to see if she could help me out with taking some off, being the first time in 8 months this has ever happened. She was very nice and ended taking most of them off. When I came in the next day the very same front desk girl told me I still owed some late fees. I was confused and tried to remind her what she had told me the day before. Well she was very rude this time around and said she didn't remember me that she helps out many people and if I'm trying to go in for free!! Needless to say I don't go there anymore. Like they say cheap things come out expensive in the long run. And that's the case with the zoo.

Started out as a good experience, but I made the mistake of signing up for 50 of the personal trainer sessions. The first two sessions were about 15 minutes with the trainer, then being sent to the exercise bikes. I went to the manager to cancel the program and was told that that trainer had been let go because of complaints. He then told me that I would be charged the entire down payment, plus the monthly payment, plus a cancellation fee. Now I have paid almost $600.00 for 30 minutes with a trainer and they are still charging my credit card monthly. Be careful what you get into, these people are as unethical as they come.

The women's area needs heavier weights and leg equipment so you don't have to be downstairs with all the dudes, you can't use the spinning bikes if there is no class but they don't have a sign to tell you that. One day I was in the middle of my cardio when one of the trainers tap me on my shoulder and told me I couldn't use the bike. Some of the female staff at the front desk is extremely rude, with no customer service whatsoever,
especially when you bring the kids to the kids club! The kids club has no system to hold spots so if you come and it's packed you have to sit in there and wait until someone picks their kids up.

The gym is a wonderful place to workout, it's really nice. They have everything you need to prepare your body for the summer. When I joined in September I was 187 lbs and today I'm at 150 lbs and I feel great. There are a bunch of machines that fit your workout needs. The cardio deck upstairs is my favorite because they have everything from treadmills, elliptical machines, and 2 new stair climbers. You'll definitely be burning calories here! Also a fun place to make new friends.

Don't send your teen or young adult to sign-up without a parent. There is a systemic problem honoring contracts by young athletes that are lured in for the monthly sign up/quit anytime and then get stuck for several months of additional fees attempting to cancel. Be prepared to drive to the facility and cancel the contract, document the date, time, and name of manager. The finance organization will turn over to creditors to collect because the local franchise does not cancel the account. Google for complaints of Zoo Health Club, you will find the same story repeated. This was a nice option for my daughter to work out over the summer before heading off to college, until it became a hassle to cancel. I recommend that you do not allow your child to sign up without an adult present. I suspect this franchise will die very quickly if they treat everyone the same way. There are other options.

Update Jan 2016 - received a validation notice from National Fitness Financial for $61.74 trying to collect fees for the ZOO Health Club. recap - daughter paid in advance for 2 months while home from college over summer (July, August). Contract notes that this is for 2 months. Billed in September, October, November while my daughter spoke to staff trying to clear this up to no avail. Today I met with Paige the manager and the owner, Sal, who are both very pleasant people. They are trying very hard to to solve the problem. It turns out that the real culprit is National Fitness Financial. This company when googled reveals that they are bilking gym owners tens of thousands of dollars and driving customers away with the their billing tactics. I am told by Paige and Sal that my issue is resolved. National Fitness Financial appears to be associated with several brands of gym. Beware signing any documents with National Fitness Financial.

I completely adore this gym! I would recommend it to anyone! The prices are amazing and they have always taken it directly out of my account the same day every month. I have been with them since June and I would never go back to any other gym.

The personal training is awesome! I have lost 3% body fat so far. Every trainer is extremely nice and very knowledgeable about everything fitness related! My trainer, Alex, is very patient with me and I appreciate that since I ask a lot of questions! He is so amazing and I am very blessed to have him train me.

Also every time I walk in the person at the desk always greets me, no matter who it is. It has been this way since day 1! They are all very nice and I enjoy the multiple machines, medicine balls, kettle bells (I think that's what they are called), free weights, and the ladies only room! Again I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!!!!!!

It is okay. The only problem I have with them is the day of the charges. They charge my debit card on different days and sometimes it makes my account go into a negative because I thought they take the money out the first of each month...They sometimes wait a week later or two. This made me mad but oh well. I can not wait until my membership is up. Terrible customer service because just last month they took out twice into my account. Strange.
