Called the day before I planned to take the kids and some friends to verify how many I would be bringing with someone. Since the website explained big groups weren’t allowed I just wanted to double check. Arrive the day of and they of course they change the story. Asked if Michael the guy I spoke to was there but they didn’t seem interested in what I had been told. Disappointed since the boys were looking forward to climbing.

We brought my grandson and friends to uptown for his 10th birthday. We called ahead to make sure we could bring 6 kids and we're told we could as long as we had at least 2 adults. We had 4 adults. We were there over 30 minutes getting all the waivers taken care of once we were done we were told uptown could no longer take us! No explanation, no come back another time at a discount, no nothing. We will not be trying this place again.

Very rude, very nasty unprofessional staff. I simply called to inquire about the yoga class that is listed on their website but not on their calendar. The guy who answered must be knew he didn’t know a thing. The young lady who answered decided to speak to me as if I was three years old and was ignorant. She didn’t listen to me and decided to be a smart azz but was actually dumb as she never answered my question. They have classes posted on website but not listed on their calendar. She says this might be it but it’s names differently. Either it is or it isn’t. The front desk unprofessional clearly lets me know to bypass this place. Just imagine the in person customer service if by phone they were this nasty.

Uptown climbing is one of my favorite places in Baton Rouge.

It's been a year since I first visited Uptown and was impressed at how kind the staff was, and how they've cultivated such a welcoming community. A year later, I've become a regular and that impression has only solidified.

What sets them apart from other climbing gyms (besides the fact that they are in Baton Rouge): (1) they take safety *very* seriously, which makes me feel safer as a climber, (2) the routesetting is world-class and done on a consistent basis, and (3) the community is amazing.

Whether you're wanting to challenge yourself physically and mentally on your own terms, or participate in the lovely climbing community they've built, I cannot recommend Uptown highly enough.

Uptown Climbing is a great alternative for those who time and time again find themselves feeling unmotivated to go to the traditional gym. I went from sitting on my couch and no activity to on the bouldering wall and pushing my self each visit. It’s an enjoyable workout, but be warned, if you sit at a computer all day like I do, your hands will go through stages of pain as you “break” them in on the walls. Highly recommend to someone that wants to change up their routine or as a fun day for the kids. Staff and fellow climbers are polite and helpful.

UpTown Climbing is one of the best parts of Baton Rouge.

We love Uptown Climbing - it's a great place for all skill levels from beginners to expert. It has a wonderful community, with friendly staff & climbers. My kids have been in both Kids Club and the Climbing Team, and both experiences have been great.

I also very much enjoy climbing at UpTown. I do not deny that I have had an occasional moment of fear or doubt lol - but fellow climbers have always been very supportive, both in giving me time to do some intention setting before starting, or giving me encouragement or helpful tips during the climb. I've climbed other places in the country and not all of them have been as welcoming as the community at UpTown.

What a great place for a birthday party. We had our 10 year old’s party here and it was a huge hit!! All of the staff was great but our instructors Kay and Tyler were awesome. They were so patient with the kids and even learned their names so they could cheer them on! If you are thinking of a party this is the place to go. Our son said this was the best birthday ever!! Unfortunately I didn’t have an experience because they refused to let my kids climb. I wanted to do something special for my own children, but because businesses like this one love to discriminate against large families we weren’t allowed to climb. Even though my children are older and I’m already very aware of how large families are treated, I was told we had to just leave if another adult wasn’t present. I was prepared to spend a lot of money today knowing the majority of the time my kids would just be on the ground next to me as each one took a turn. They’re used to sharing and being patient in these kinds of situations. But they weren’t even given the opportunity to prove themselves. We left and went to a business that doesn’t discriminate against people who want to spend a lot of money for a little fun.

Uptown is an amazing facility, with a ton of different routes both in bouldering and top rope. They change them up frequently, and there is enough you could go every day for a week and not get bored. The thing I have loved most about my membership here are the people it attracts, though!! I have never felt that every skill set was so welcomed in one place, including at other climbing gyms. I'm a little more quiet, but just sitting back and seeing beginners and experienced climbers cheering each other on has been amazing.

We took our 4 yo daughter who absolutely loves rock climbing at the small one at her playground. We were very pleased that they welcome children as young as 4 yo. They had the proper equipment for her to safely climb. They did not try to rush us and just take our money. They gave us a proper orientation and stressed Safety!! They made sure we the parents understood about safety steps and procedures. To our delight, our 4 yo daughter started climbing right away amd was so happy to be there.

I personally felt like the price was affordable for what the facility offered. The staff was friendly, the price was affordable, and the facility was clean and in great shape. We plan to go back many more times.

First time attending here might be a bit intimidating, but this place is awesome.

U like some places, like trampoline parks with a limited pathing. This place has everything.

The belay systems are key for beginners. It allows u to climb high and get used to climbing which as a beginner u need. You can get tired, YOU WILL GET TIRED, and u can let go.

There are more advanced systems that require a skills check and a partner to simulate more realistic climbing.

Best part are day passes unlike alot of places unless it's the early day pass. Day pass gets u in till close so u can leave and come back which is awesome. There's also memberships just like a real gym.

Honestly I think this is better than a traditional gym. My forearms were swollen from the first real stress they were put through. I also feel it's more rewarding bc trust me some of the climbs are difficult.

Day passes are 16$ and 14$ for military, 1st responders, students, and police. U can rent a harness and shoes for 5$ and bring your own. There's also a mini gym to get a bit of variance for "members only".

Id generally consider switching from anytime but being an hr away unfortunately prob not realistic.

This location also has its own gym dogs. Id HIGHLY recommend bringing anyone over 9 for the experience!!!

I rarely give 5 star reviews of anything, but UpTown deserves it. Quality staff, safety focused, well maintained equipment, bright and non-stinky, plenty of walls and routes, and no time limits on your affordable daypass. My 6 year old had an absolute ball as well as my older ones. I suspect any 4 year old and above could enjoy it. I do wish more freedom was given to the tweener kids to auto-belay and boulder independently, but that is probably an insurance mandate if I had to guess.

It was a pretty good place. Me and my friend had some great time there. Also about the waiver (because I like legal stuff), it is actually not possible for a parent to waive a child's legal right to sue. This is done for obvious reasons, but it does make the waiver they use void in regards to children where it states that the signer agrees to waive that right of their children.
Maybe it can say that the parent agrees to assume the costs of injury for the child. I don't know though because I'm not a lawyer.

I wanted to take my 7 year old to climb but being that I’ve never been before I wasn’t sure if it was age appropriate for her. So, I called and one of the ladies explained what she could/couldn’t do so we decided to check it out. She LOVED it! I all but had to drag her out. The staff were so helpful. The facility is nice. And for a person like me, who doesn’t do heights, it’s fun to sit back and watch the experienced climbers climb. I love that a “day pass” is all day so you can climb in the morning, go to lunch, and come back. And Cooper, the resident Labrador is the cutest

Baton Rouge desperately needed a climbing gym. I think this is the first review I've ever written on google for anything, but I love this place so much I felt obligated to let others know. Uptown is a state of the art climbing gym offering everything from bouldering, auto belays, top roping, and lead climbing to yoga and general fitness.

I've been a member of the UpTown Climbing gym and community since September 2017, and after about a year and a half I can honestly say this place just keeps getting better and better. Most of this is due to the staff. They do an excellent job of creating a welcoming environment, and teaching the skills needed to have fun and stay safe. The routes are always creative and challenging, and the community is incredible.

If you haven't visited yet, do yourself a favor and give this place a shot. You won't regret it!

The facility was amazing and looked liked a place I would be returning even though I live 2 hours away. They have close to 40 climbing stations of which 6 are self rappelling. I was surprised to see the non-self rappelling ropes did not have a carabiner for the climber to attach like the belay mechanism. I was told by staff you had to have a class and pass a test on tying the particular type of knot before allowed to climb at the non-self rappelling stations, and they were not doing testing that day. Needless to say my group spent two hours at the 6 stations along with every other climbers in the building. NO ONE was using the other stations because of the rope tie requirement. A simple solution is to just attach a carabiner on the rope so people can easily use this great indoor climbing place. I asked the staff why there was no carabiner attached, they said for safety reasons (??) but said they do when there a birthday party (???). If they make a policy change, I hope I find out because I would love to make it a regular weekend trip. AGAIN I WOULD LIKE TO EMPHASIS, NO OTHER CLIMBERS FOR 2 HOURS USED THE OTHER CLIMBING STATIONS.

I love this place have been going as much as possible but one question I am always scared to ask is if it is ever ok to go shirtless while bouldering if not it is completely fine I would just like to know

It’s safe to say that we are not a family of professional climbers. We don’t even dress like climbers. That hasn’t stopped the staff at UpTown from treating us with respect and support. From the lessons to encouragement in the gym, this crew gets it. We love this climbing gym and the UpTown team. Excited to have a place like this in Baton Rouge.

This gym was fantastic and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful! The gym has bouldering, top rope, lead, and a handful of autobelays. Belay training is provided for new climbers and the belay check is simple yet comprehensive for experienced climers! I highly recommend checking this gym out if you are able regardless of climbing experience.
