This is a long review for an amazing person so bear with me. I met Christian a few years ago. I wanted to train with him but couldn't at the time. I began working with him about 6 months ago. I want to add to the excellent reviews that have already appeared. I second those that say he can meet you where you are and that he is a gold standard for training.
I have christened him "The Fitness whisperer." I was not a Title IX child so exercise and fitness are chores--not joys generally--except for this precious hour with him every week--but that joy is starting to generalize to fitness efforts outside my appointment.
As a long-time oncology nurse, teacher, and ordained interfaith minister, authentic communication and finding a spiritual path toward adopting fitness practices are are the most likely paths for my success. He takes the time to understand current challenges and past successes re fitness to develop an individualized plan. His experience is evident in his ability to identify either small opportunities or incremental improvements for my personal fitness advancement--this is the sign of an expert--even a virtuoso--coach. He uses this same skill to help me reframe challenges to maintaining fitness--using outdoor "adventures" vs number of steps as a measure of success. His praise is authentic not BS--because he can see incremental improvement.
His ability to offer a "mantra" as a shorthand for motivation is extraordinary--words that stay with me throughout the week--kind of an encyclopedic "A chicken Soup for Fitness."
I have found his blogs and interviews to enlarge my understanding of how he sees his work and purpose in the world--things we could not explore in our 1 hour session.
I am grateful to all of the people--parents, family, friends, teachers, students, mentors--who have happened to shape Christian--a smart, compassionate, and funny virtuoso, working with and on purpose--in the fitness world. He can definitely meet me, this 60-something person that I am, and show me new ways of walking in the world with more balance and fitness. Boxing was not on my bucket list but it is teaching me a lot about balance--one of many things we manage to do in one hour!

Where to even begin?! First, before I get to my review of Christian as a trainer let me start with a brief rundown of me. I'm a woman in my mid-30s. I've been lifting weights and into athletics since I was in high school. In the past 7 years, I've started practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on a regular basis, and have augmented that training with weight training on the side. Over the years I've had at least half a dozen trainers that I've seen on a regular basis for varying periods of time (you know how it is, you train for a while, life happens, you take some time off, and then you get back into it). All this is to say that I've been exposed to a wide variety of training styles and personalities. I've had really good trainers, and I've had not-so-good trainers, and for the past two years I've been training with Christian.

Now that you have a fuller picture of where I'm coming from, here's the fun part - I get to tell you about Christian! Right off the bat upon first meeting Christian, it was clear he was going to fall into the category of "great trainer." His initial approach was one of compassion and a desire to understand exactly what I as an individual wanted from my experience with him. I could have told him something as simple as "I want to be able to bend over and pick up my 20lb dog without hurting myself" to "I want to be able to do a set of 50 pistol squats, carry 80lbs 100 yards, and then crank out 10 pullups with 45lbs strapped to me," and either way he would take the same care and attention to creating the perfect program that fit my goals.

I can't say enough about how much I appreciate the way Christian programs my sessions. In addition to focusing on my personal goals of increased strength, power, and stamina, there is an emphasis on overall well-being. Through Christian, I've learned to appreciate the more subtle development of core and joint strengthening along with balance and coordination work, all of which have become staples of my workouts, and play a significant role in preventing injury both in everyday life and while practicing jiu jitsu. With Christian, I feel motivated and encouraged to train well, but I never feel as if I'm I am pushing myself to the brink, and I always feel good the next day, not as if I've destroyed myself during our workouts.

Not only is Christian great at programing for specific goals, but he is also just a fantastic human being. He radiates positivity and light. I dare you to walk into a session with Christian, and not walk out feeling at least 110% better when you leave. I. Dare. You. And not because of the endorphins released during your workout, but, legitimately, because being around such a genuinely kind, caring, goofy, exuberant human like Christian is good for your soul. When people talk about a "holistic approach" to health, they're pretty much talking about everything Christian has to offer, and I can't recommend him enough.

Christian is SO great. Movement is the core foundation of his work, and he encourages clients to wear whatever they feel most comfortable moving in to sessions -- it doesn't have to be workout gear! I immediately knew that Christian was a great fit for me personally because his routines don't entail repetitively lifting weights or doing pushups; we do a lot of stretching and a variation of different movements that leave me feeling great.

One of the biggest appeals to Christian's ethos is how much he incorporates play and humor into his sessions. He makes movement and exercise so encouraging and fun, and I come away from each one of my meetings with him smiling and feeling great about myself.

Christian is seriously a gem; I feel incredibly lucky to be going to him weekly! Not only does he provide a good workout, but he also offers helpful health advice and a listening ear. I appreciate him so much!

I cannot recommend Christian's program enough. As soon as we met and went over his philosophy on health, fitness, and life I knew he was going to be a great trainer for me. No matter how tired or grumpy I am the day of my session, working out with Christian boosts my mood and makes me feel great about what my body is capable of.

I leave every session feeling stronger and seeing improvement from session to session. Christian always takes the time to listen to issues I may be having with my back or neck or whatever and adjusts accordingly, on the fly, making sure I have a great workout.

I have never worked with a trainer before that isn't out to run you into the ground, or follows a no pain no gain mentality so Christian is a breathe of fresh air. And to top it all off, I feel stronger, more stable and more confident than I have before. And get this, the sessions are fun! I always have a blast while working hard. Before COVID I knew I needed to do something to address issues from my sedentary lifestyle. My goal was to move better, improve balance, strength and stamina. I didn't want a trainer who was "one size fits most". I found Christian. I was impressed with his credentials in adult learning theory and athletic training, as well as his emphasis on functional activity and play. He REALLY listened to me about what I wanted to get out of training with him.

Sessions with Christian are fun, variable, and never to the point of extreme muscle fatigue. Our conversations are wide ranging. It is a no judgement zone where I do the best that I can. After three months I find that I'm standing straighter, have greater range of motion, better balance, and I am stronger.

If you are in the market for a personal trainer and shudder at the idea of a crowded gym and working out to the point of exhaustion then Christian is the trainer for you. He is now my gold standard for training.

We met for a consultation in June 2019. I was the heaviest and likely the unhealthiest I have ever been going into meeting with Christian. He put together a plan that was thoughtful; incorporating body weight, circuit training, mindful movement and breathing. Christian told me his goal is to have productive sessions where you feel better going out than you did walking in. We have been working since July and I have left every session feeling better than I did before. The workouts are fun and challenging. I came to Christian with a reconstructed ACL and meniscus, and significant swelling of the tendons in my wrist. Lifting, squatting and gripping were incredibly difficult and I didn’t know where to start to get back to the level of fitness I was used to as a long time athlete. Christian comprehensively got to understand my goals and my needs, clearly targeted them in our early appointments, and explained the reasoning behind any movements he introduced. Where to begin… Well, first, I’m not the least bit surprised to see nothing but 5 stars for CVANLO from others in Christian’s community. I am so very thankful that his referral network reached me at a time when my 46-yr old body seemed to have been saying “enough”. At a time when was injured more often than not and certainly not able to move like I used to.

Even though I’ve only had the pleasure to be working with Christian a couple short months, I’m already seeing results in both my mobility and strength. I’m back on the basketball court and look forward to returning to the sport and therapy I love: long distance running - once spring has actually arrived! I also look forward to being able to play unabashedly with my young boys and not feel like a totally uncoordinated dork (they have enough ammo in that department as it is).

Not only is Christian extremely knowledgeable but he is incredibly charismatic, engaging and just an absolute rockstar of a guy.
