Pilates studioAbout the Club
The Pilates Center of Maine in Portland focuses on classical Pilates exercises developed by Joseph Pilates. The 6 principles of Pilates integrate with one another to work the “powerhouse”, or core - the abdominal muscles, lower back muscles, pelvic floor, glutes and hip flexors.
Pilates exercises will strengthen the core for improved support; balance the body enabling proper alignment; and stretch the body allowing for flexibility of movement. Pilates is great for individuals ages 10 – 80+ who are looking to enhance athletic performance, improve general wellness, or augment rehabilitation.
The Pilates Center of Maine also offers Fascial Stretch Therapy, an excellent complementary therapy to Pilates workouts for increasing range of motion.

I have been a client of Tunde's for 12 years. While other exercise regimens have come and gone, my loyalty to Pilates and my work with Tunde has been (and will continue to be) a necessary constant in my life. Pilates is Tunde's business, her profession and her passion. She is extremely knowledgeable and an excellent teacher. Simply stated, she is the best.

I've been taking Pilates (both private and classes) with Tunde for over ten years. She is an amazing instructor and will push you in positive ways. Tundes' deep knowledge of the Pilates process and philosophy, coupled with her familiarity with anatomy and physical therapy puts her heads above the rest of Portland instructors. And she has a wicked sense of humor.

10 years ago I decided I wanted abs for my 40th birthday, so I took a class with Tunde. Now I've got a relationship with someone who understands how to challenge my body, heal my body and educate me about my body. Tunde has a deep understanding of many athletic disciplines and is a wizard at pulling all her knowledge together to make for a unique Power Pilates experience. She can even individualize her instruction in a group mat class. I am never bored, both my mind and body work hard in her class and... I've got abs!

Tunde is an incredible instructor and has done amazing things for taking care of my spine, making me stronger, and giving me my power core. Pilates is such great exercise but with chronic injuries, I need someone who can be flexible, modify the sets, and meet me where I'm at physically. Tunde does that and more!

I was severely deconditioned and overweight trying to recover from chemotherapy when a friend gave me a gift certificate to Pilates Center of Maine. In addition I have significant asymmetry and balance issues from leg length discrepancy. Tunde met me where I was, thoughtfully developed an individualized program, and her explanations enabled a novice to safely and satisfyingly progress during both individual and group instruction. Her classs are always challenging, fun and safe. The equipment is in good repair and the studio is clean. After one and a half years I am stronger and more flexible than ever and I lost more than half of the accumulated chemotherapy weight. Tunde is a pleasure to work with.

I have been doing Pilates with Tunde for the past 5 years. Before starting with Tunde, I woke up to daily pain in my hips, neck and shoulders. I now wake up pain free. It is a commitment. I go to class at least once a week and try to go 2X per week. I have also remained injury free during this time as well. Tunde meets people where they are at and everyone is welcomed and made to feel like this is their place regardless of fitness level. I have referred numerous people to Tunde and all have had similar results to mine. In addition to my own wonderful experience with Pilates and Tunde, both of my girls also participate in classes, geared for the young athlete that Tunde instructs. This is a class that Tunde has developed (I encourage all my figure skating students to attend as well!) which focuses on young athletes who are looking for core strength and flexibility. Many people start with Tunde after an injury, best to start before the injury!

I have been taking classes with Tunde for several years. She is an amazing teacher: knowledgeable, precise, aware of each student, and always bringing the class to a new level. I am not very flexible and she helpfully works around my limits. Best of all, I am pain free and able to do more than ever.

In 2008 I met Tünde at a fitness club and enjoyed taking her Pilates'
classes. A few years later I followed her to her private studio for
further work, where I am delighting in three classes a week. Her attention to detail is remarkable, each person in class benefits. Now,
at the age of 85, I have never felt better and stronger.
