There are so many great things going on in this neighborhood these days, and Sacred Machine is a hidden gem among them. I've been attending classes here for the past year (after a decade of drifting in and out of practicing yoga), and this community has been such a grounding force in my life.
The space has a peaceful, minimalist vibe (white walls, big plants, a cool tin ceiling that is fun to gaze up at.) The classes are small, with lots of space to spread out. This environment creates an open and uplifting energy that feels very unique.
The instructors are genuinely warm, knowledgable, and inspiring. I really enjoy the variety of teaching styles and personalities. There's something for everyone here! You will feel welcome and supported no matter what brings you into the studio.

A hidden gem in South Portland! I’m somewhat of a yoga novice (or at least I feel that way), but I did the introductory 2-week pass a few months ago and have been hooked ever since. All the instructors are really great and give variety in the way they teach. It’s just a good, chill spot for stretching and separating my mind from the workday: I highly recommend.

The most lovely little yoga studio! The space is so welcoming and Kate (the owner) was extremely friendly. The class itself was energizing and invigorating, I left feeling so refreshed. Also great that you're able to borrow mats from the studio!

Sacred Machine Yoga Studio is a true delight. The owner, Kate, has fostered a welcoming studio with a true community feel. The offerings are diverse and there is something for everyone - not only in the different classes, but also in each and every class. All the teachers I’ve had are experienced, fun, calming, and welcoming. It’s amazing for a studio to be offering consistent 6 am classes for working folks that would like to get a practice in before they start the day. I leave each practice feeling refreshed, energized, and more human. They have a two-week intro pass deal and once I fished I immediately signed up for the monthly unlimited which is one of the more reasonably priced options in the area especially considering the care and attention that goes into the space and into each class. If you’re looking for a community yoga studio to bring some joy to your day, look no further! (And then tell all your friends because it’s the best!!)

I confess that although I've been taking yoga for 20 years, I was consistent only when I had the benefit of free yoga at my former workplace. That was 10 years ago, and since then I've struggled to find a studio that makes me want to come back and commit to a practice. That changed when I tried Sacred Machine in November. Going to a new studio can be intimidating, but the owner, Kate Brigham, has created a warm, welcoming and unpretentious environment. Plus the yoga is so good! I am especially hooked on Kate's 6 am classes. She makes sure that each class is a well-thought out, unique experience, which really helps me stay in the moment. I tend to zone out easily, but here I am totally engaged throughout the class. It really clicks for me. Afterward, I truly feel like it opens me up to the day. And so -- yay -- I keep coming back. I'm also a big fan of Kate Holden's monthly restorative class. I've found her series of resting poses to be a gentle but powerful way to hit the reset button. It feels like I'm indulging myself, but it's also good for me (win-win). So thank you to Sacred Machine, for helping me to commit to a yoga practice. I'm grateful for it.

I'm so grateful I found my way to Sacred Machine! Practicing with Kate and the studio community is always a highlight of my week. Kate's classes are amazing -- incredibly thoughtful and creative sequencing that provides opportunities for challenge and growth in a genuinely supportive environment. It's the most welcoming place I've practiced in 15+ years. I always find both peace and laughter at Sacred Machine and leave feeling grounded, energized, and connected.

I highly recommend Sacred Machine. I have been attending classes there for nearly two years. Each of the instructors I've had were thoughtful, kind, open, and knowledgable. Throughout my practice, Kate Brigham has helped me realize and accept that each time I come to the mat is a new experience. And while I have ended yoga classes at other spaces feeling calm and centered, I equally often end classes at Sacred Machine feeling strong, empowered, and open. Kate Brigham has created a warm and inviting space for the yoga community and I encourage all to try it.

Sacred Machine has quickly become my favorite studio in Portland- and of all time. It is rare to find a yoga space that offers such a balance of tranquility and solo peace alongside connection and conversation. You will quickly feel at home and included in the cozy space. I never hesitate to ask questions - Kate Brigham (owner) loves to share knowledge and guidance. Practicing at Sacred Machine always makes my day!

I cannot say enough positive things about this sweet studio and its instructors. Kate , the owner, cares so much about each student’s experience and wellbeing. Absolutely set aside time to have a chat with her if you get the chance, she is just about guaranteed to make your day brighter. She has created a beautifully warm and welcoming space for this community and I have enjoyed every class I have taken there over the last year +

Kate Brigham, owner of Sacred Machine Yoga Studio, has been one of my go-to, all time favorite yoga teachers for many years. When she taught in Somerville, MA I was there for as many of the 6 am classes I could fit in my schedule. When she relocated to Portland, ME I was delighted to learn that I could continue studying yoga with Kate, remotely, via Zoom. Her warmth, kindness, patience, and good humor reinforces my conviction that a yoga day is always better than a non-yoga day. Being able to attend remotely is a gift I am truly grateful for. Kate, thank you for making this possible!

I've been attending classes at Sacred Machine for about 5 months now. I love it for many reasons! First, the teachers are wonderful. Shoutout to Katie Lake and Kate Brigham for always encouraging us to go at our own pace, to really drop into our bodies and to give ourselves grace. Second, the space itself is very welcoming. Always warm and peaceful. Come check out Sacred Machine, you'll probably love it too!

Kate is wonderful and so is this studio. Its a safe space to practice in, no pressure to do the poses, modifications provided, and you signal if you don’t want adjustments. I appreciate the focus on listening to what your body needs, and it truly makes my days brighter.

I am a beginning, older student who has avoided yoga for years because I didn't feel welcome in other studios. I love the Sacred Machine and the Noon class with Kate. I feel comfortable and welcome in a class of all ages and abilities. Kate is a great teacher…fun, relaxed, spiritual and accommodating. She seems to intuitively know how to conduct each class by making it tailor made to the students in front of her. I don’t feel awkward even on the days my body doesn’t want to do what I want it to do. It is the first yoga class I’ve ever tried where I want to keep coming back. And, I am seeing the results of my work with increased flexibility and strength.I’m sorry I didn’t try yoga earlier in my life, but I am very happy I found this comfortable, warm and intimate studio with a gracious and knowledgeable teacher. Thank you for opening up my possibilities.

We were searching for a great yoga studio for over a year before we found Sacred Machine. Kate and Katie are exceptional instructors who teach well to both beginners and advanced yoga practitioners. They create a warm sense of community in classes that never feel overly stuffed with people. They make an effort to get to know regulars and new comers alike, which makes this studio feel like a home away from home. I can’t recommend them enough!

I tried out this yoga studio the other week and ended up being the only person there for the in-studio class. Kate really individualized the class to what I had going on and made it an awesome experience. The space is beautiful and an asset to the neighborhood. Definitely check it out!

I’ve tried several yoga studios in the Portland area, and this is for sure my favorite! Definitely try this studio if you’re looking for a pared down, intimate, meditative experience with extremely knowledgeable, kind, and empathetic teachers. A lot of studios can be very trendy with loud music, and this isn’t like that at all - I feel so calm and invigorated after my classes here!

I happened into this studio when I was in town, visiting family. I really enjoyed Brad's class- it was challenging with very intuitive sequencing He didn't take him self too seriously but you still felt well guided through the practice. The studio owner, Kate, was there as well. She was very warm and lovely. You can tell she is very creating a really special space for her students and teachers. I can't wait to get back and try more classes. Definitely a little gem of a place!

Come as you are. Really. The studio is an intimate space with soft lighting - upon entering you might hear voices softly chatting, sharing about their day. You are instantly a welcome friend. I have more than once signed up for yoga classes at a studio claiming to be inclusive and nonjudgemental - only to be disappointed. Sacred Machine has exceeded my expectations. I look forward to classes three times a week with Kate! Sometimes in the studio, but since moving to Kennebunk I embrace virtual classes mid-day that fit perfectly into my work schedule. No matter what kind of day you have had, or are heading into, Kate will put you at ease. She encourages you to be mindful, forgiving, and present. She teaches with grace, knowledge, and a gentle, knowing sense of humor on days when our bodies might fight us on balance or flexibility. So really, come as you are. And I promise you will leave better than you were.

Could this be Portland’s best kept secret? I spend a lot of time in Portland visiting family and have visited many a yoga studio in the city. This was hands down the best yoga class I’ve had up there by far! Kate is an amazing teacher and literally in my first class with her she had me doing a pose I’ve never been able to do before. Her hands on instruction and guidance helped me to bring my yoga practice to a new level. I cannot wait to come back!

Beautiful space! I went to the first class they offered when they opened and thought it was very welcoming when walking in. Kate greeted me immediately to welcome me and show me where everything was located. Made me feel very comfortable. Class was wonderful and she is very knowledgeable. Anyone regardless of their level of experience would feel comfortable in her classes. I can't wait to go back!

Sacred Machine is a brand new studio South Portland, and I’m excited to watch it grow! I have taken online zoom classes with the owner, Kate, throughout the pandemic so I was thrilled to be able to take in-person classes in her new clean and beautiful studio space. Sacred Machine’s Covid protocols are reasonable and fair, and the yoga room is spacious enough to practice in safe distance from others. I highly recommend checking out this studio if you are ready to ease back in to in-person yoga, or check out their huge live and pre recorded catalogue if practicing from home is still your preference! Sacred Machine has been a beacon during a time when many yoga studios shut their lights down. The versatility of this studio, with virtual classes as well as an online video library, makes getting on my mat so convenient. With the addition of the brick & mortar space, Sacred Machine offers the whole package! Kate is thoughtful, creative, & honors the true practice of yoga, on & off the mat. Love this yoga studio!!
