Iβve been climbing at the Scarborough location for almost a year. They have excellent staff, fantastic climbs, and a regular change over of routes. The members are almost always smiling, always friendly, and the gym dogs will make any whip worth it. Highly recommended!

Great climbing gym with very good setting, the price is a bit unreasonable $105 for a prepaid month membership is alot. The gym also lacks luxuries you would expect at that price point. Its weight lifting and training area is bare bones, with a wobbly squat rack that was donated back in 2017. Not enough weight plates to go above 295. No cable machine. No showers. Very little space to do any form of agility exercises or carries. The staff is generally fantastic, and obviously cares about the patrons. Somewhat of a bummer to spend that much money and see the price increase ~$30 over the past 5 years and not see many new services or facility improvements.

Nice staff and good walls. They use solar to supply power to the gym, which is nice, but they really need to provide decent air conditioning in the summer. We were there on a day in July, not even as hot as it gets outside and the humidity and temperature were truly unpleasant.

Awesome climbing gym - big variety of climbing walls. Huge shoutout to Owen for being an excellent and patient instructor. I went climbing for the first time today and it was a great experience. We'll be back soon. Thanks so much to the team for making the gym such a welcoming environment.

Middle of the road facility at least for bouldering and weight training, but does have a fully adjustable Kilter board (no Moon/Tension). Visited on a day pass, but did not lead climb, so bear that in mind. Setting was high density in the bouldering area. Wall angles were decent (45Β°, slabs, prow, dihedral, small roof). Setting was often uncomfortable and old school (small holds, violent movement, mostly resistance focused, uninspiring shouldery moves at the higher end of difficulty). Many holds were old (OG Pushers), and there weren't a lot of volumes or large Kilters, 360 holds, Squadra, etc. Gym area was small, almost cramped, (but they did have a campus board, 3 hangboards, bench but no squat rack). No industry discount, $24 day pass, $20 with a concession. No showers (only these weird foot bath things), only water fountains no water refill. Large windows were nice but the humidity on a hot summer day was brutal.

The place is great, I just think that a prepaid pass going from $75 to $105 in less than a year is crazy, definitely that will keep me away from this place :/

Staff was super chill, however there are a couple things about the facility that are a tad weird. The biggest issue was the ropes. Thickest dynamic ropes Iβve ever seen. not just in a commercial gym but in generalβif I had to guess like 10.5-11mm. It barely fit inside my smart and in order to lower on my GriGri you have to pull the lever all the way back completely disengaging the cam. They were also VERY short. My belayer had to get on the wall in order to clip into their belay device because there wasnβt enough rope left over after tying in. Honestly not that big of a deal, but just not something im used to. Other than that the setting was very dynamic and fun. Lots of rose moves and tons of foot chips for different heights of climbers. I would definitely say the setting on the rope side of the gym was better but the bouldering was cool too. Overall, a nice gym :)

Best bouldering and cleanest climbing gym in southern Maine by far. Top rope routes are set well, and itβs hard to complain about a gym that allows folks to bring their well behaved pups!
I donβt interact with all the staff, but the majority of those I have are the friendliest folks! The free yoga classes (for members) are taught well, and it feels safe unlike other facilities nearby that often feel like a teenager is in charge. The community is super encouraging and supportive and friendly, not an ultra-macho competitive environment, which is nice! Itβs family-friendly, but kids are well supervised 99% of the time, versus the screaming child free for all at other spots. If youβre looking to sign up for a gym, this is the one.
My only complaint (aside from the spotty wifi) is that Salt Pump has ruined me for any other climbing gym. Iβve found few that hold up to the setting here, itβs just so much more fun!

Salt pump is great. Lead wall has good height and lots of options grading wise. Top rope section has around 4 or 5 autobelays. Bouldering area has some good variety in style and setting. Atmosphere is super friendly.
There's gym equipment upstairs . Can't wait for the Portsmouth spot to open up

The absolutely most disappointing place for a 5 year old's birthday party. We had an afternoon slot booked and they scheduled an adult class (of essentially just knot tying) on the ENTIRE kid's climbing wall... and occupied it for the entire length of the party. Had they told me about this beforehand, we would never have chosen to go through with it. Super disappointing and they made no effort to solve any of it while we were there, despite asking. 0/10 would not book again.

The Salt Pump is my favorite climbing gym! Incredible route setting, very welcoming community, and beautiful space. I love that they added a kilter board as well - a wonderful addition to the gym.

(I can only speak for bouldering) Route setting is pretty good, I'd say the second best gym I've ever been to. I'd say there's a pretty big gap of grades between really easy and intermediate, there's very little v2 climbs, however there's a ton of v3-v4, not a huge deal breaker, but something I observed. The staff are super nice, prices aren't crazy high, they have really nice gym equipment and hang boards, and over all the community there is pretty rad. But I do heavily dislike the grading system they have, where climbing grades are grouped together, it just feels kind of cheap. When you progress it's definitely more anti-climatic, and definitely takes a bit of fun out of climbing there.
Definitely check it out, I'm just one guy on the internet, who knows it may be perfect to you.

I first went to Salt Pump on a whim in January. A friend invited me and I went into it thinking this place was meant for kids. Here I am 3 months later going 2-3 times per week because I am fully addicted.
Salt Pump has provided me with a great setting to fall in love with the sport of climbing. The staff is super friendly and helpful to the novices like me. The variety of climbing routes keeps it fresh every time you go. Thereβs always a new route to test yourself on and improve your skills.
On top of all that, the hours of operation are so convenient. I work long hours and to be able to get to the gym at 8pm or later and still have ample climbing time is beyond clutch. After working in an office all day, Iβve found it invaluable to have a big energy expenditure at the end of the day. This climbing gym has improved my quality of life in a variety of ways.
Thank you to the Salt Pump team for providing this community with an amazing place to learn, laugh, and have fun!

Moving to the seacoast area necessitated switching gyms. Salt Pump is fantastic and Iβm happy to drive the extra distance to get there. Went on a busy Saturday. There was 100+ people all over the gym, I was surprised to only see 3 or 4 staff members. Coco did a great job giving us our orientation. We stuck to the bouldering areas since the ropes section was so packed. The setting was good with nice variety. A lot of newer / young climbers that day made things a bit chaotic. Had to really keep our eyes out for kids running underneath us on the wall. Definitely going to hit the ropes next time I'm in Maine, looked world class. Great facility and great staff.

After a long climbing hiatus I decided to get back into the sport. After seeing the EVO reviews it seemed as Salt Pump was the obvious choice in the greater Portland area. After arriving I was greeted by Sam, who was awesome, at the front desk. I signed the waiver and Sam gave me a tour of the facility. Including rules and suggestions I felt prepared to tackle some climbing.
Even with the majority of the bouldering closed down the upstairs was sufficient and didn't feel crowed. The routes were fun and well set. After hitting a couple I hit the high walls with the Auto-belay setup. WICKED fun. Very nice to hit routes without needing a partner.
Not only were the staff friendly, the climbers were also very nice. After pumped arms and good conversation I called it a day. Thanks Salt Pump, I really enjoyed my time today and will be coming around a lot more frequently!

One of the best climbing gyms in the country set up to challenge experienced climbers with interesting routes, and is extra welcoming to new climbers and families too!
I truly appreciate the way they overlay rock walls and climbs so even on a busy day there are many options and autobelays to climb. A delicate balance they thread so well with kind welcoming staff that also offer indoor and outdoor classes for all levels

Everything was absolutely amazing, from the staffing to walls themselves. 5/5 stars, would recommend salt pump rock climbing to anybody looking for a fun time!
Checked dates and times, filled out the waivers online, drove 45 minutes, and yall slap a sheet of paper in the window that says "closed for annual cleaning" yall couldn't have posted that on your website?! Or on Google?! What a disappointment....

My partner and I have been climbing here for a few months and overall enjoy it. The route setting is varied and interesting and we like having more time to project routes than other gyms that reset the walls more frequently. However, I wish there was more leadable slab climbs for diversity.
We find the hours slightly limiting as I work night shift and tend to be a night owl, 9 pm feels a little early to close on a weekday. Less of a community vibe than we're used to, but folks are friendly and still the best climbing gym in the area!

Solid setting, not nearly as soft as a lot of new gyms. 5.7-5.9 top rope routes were a little contrived with narrower beta than real rock, but that's fairly standard with gym limitations and strong setters. Bouldering is so style dependant that the fuzzier grading is a big plus; encourages more branching out. Could be fun to have a hidden review system (QR codes + phones?) to share beta & comments. Gym was quite empty midweek during working hours.

Overall a good gym with some caveats. Felt the route setting was inconsistent and geared more toward asthetics then function and movement in some cases. For example, we found the harder the routes the better they were. The 10s and 11s we climbed were engaging and well set. However the 8s and 9s we warmed up on were almost harder due to the setting. It also did not feel representative of features we find climbing outside, but that may just be the way gyms are going.
Also, the pricing for kids was a bit... expensive. We love to bring our 3 year old climbing to share the stoke, but at her age the duration of her focus is usually quite short. Charging $15 for her where most gyms are free at her age was unfortunate.
With all that said, there is definitely something for everyone, and the inclusion of cracks of various sizes is a welcome addition.

I was really impressed by Salt Pump on my first day! I appreciated their welcoming orientation, their grading system, and the solid amount of autobelay routes that they offered. My favorite part was that they included easy routes in their βcaveβ section - which is hard to come by at other gyms.

Wonderful indoor space divided between big wall (top rope, lead, and crack climbing) and bouldering, with an upstairs workout area also including an additional bouldering pillar as well as hangboards, a treadmill, rowing machine, stationary bike, weights, bench press, and gymnastics rings suspended from wooden framing. Nice, helpful, and knowledgeable staff. The gym sits in front of a beautiful pond, with a deck on the backside for lounging. There is plenty of climbing for all people at all levels, including kids.

I've only been a member for a couple of months now, but I can't say enough good things about this place. I'm a newcomer to climbing, starting at 40 years of age and still dealing with a healthy fear of heights (still trying to work up trust in the auto-belays!). The gym was clean with friendly staff. The routes and bouldering ratings were so far off though. Some of the boulder problems didn't have any start tags at all. The v-4's are more like v 6. The book wall sucks to have to study a book before doing each problem. It seems who ever rates the difficulty there has no clue what their talking about. 5.11 there is like 5.12.
Each boulder problem should have a tag just with the v rating not this weird system you guys have. The book wall should just be normal problems that change. The gym could be much better it's like they don't know how other gyms do it. I thought the gym had potential but it kinda sucked that the ratings were so far from reality. There's a reason other gyms have a normal system because it's professional and works. Your setters seem to love sandbagging and just throwing up whatever. I wasn't psyched at all.

Salt Pump is such a fun and amazing rock gym! 45-55' walls, a huge bouldering area, and a real indoor-outdoor vibe with the big windows and location right on the pond. A beautiful facility with great equipment. An awesome Maine rock gym.
