"Moved locations" with 0 warning, legitimately showed up one day to signs on the door and an email in my inbox saying that they were relocating. They never specified where the new location is, or gave any sort of timeline. Absolutely shameful behavior considering I will likely stop using them and was only 9 months into an 18 month contract for which I had paid upfront.

Removed a bunch of equipment and shortened hours under the pretext of downsizing. Terrible service, unresponsive management, and lots of misrepresentation while signing up members. They sold me an annual package based on services they just removed for good. That seems to be the general style of this gym. I'm continuing to go because it is the closest one but am seriously considering entering arbitration to claim a refund, which they have refused to provide. They are bound by the American Arbitration Association, so if you're in the same boat as me and want a refund, message me here or like my comment and we can look at something class-action like.

Used to be a fun motivating place to go however the mysterious new owner who know one seems to know has run it into the ground. Every week there is something surprising and not in a good way. It makes for a great ice breaker to talk to others working out. All everyone does is remark on the ridiculousness. It is entertaining to see the regression. I keep going because of the location hence the two stars.

World Gym use to be THE place to work out. Now, everything had gone to s***. The equipment is falling apart and doesn't get replaced or fixed, the roof leaks, the staff doesn't even show up on time to open the gym. It's horrendous. The new owner needs to just relinquish ownership and never own a gym again. It's despicable what has happened to one of the best gyms in Portland. Not to mention the outrageous membership fees!! You mean to tell me that the HIGHER cost is justified by all the aforementioned atrocious features this gym offers? Get real. I could probably spend another hour writing all the horrible 'amenities' this gym had to offer but I don't want to waste my time anymore.

Within the last few months prices have gone from $35/month to $50/month now. They’ve also been charging members an extra 19.99 a month the past two months to help with tough times? Foley’s gym is 41.99/month and everything is brand new and clean. World gyms benches are crumbling apart, and the paper towels, soap, and cleaning sprays are never consistently filled. I never thought I would be considering going back to Planet Fitness over World Gym, but at this point it’s priced like a top tier gym and is trash.

great, plentiful equipment and great atmosphere, but the prices and hours are pretty bad, and keep getting worse. They close at 9:00 on weekdays and 5:00 on weekends, and that weekend closing time is really bad for night owls like me. They open at 7:00 on weekends and 6:00 on weekdays, which wasn't a problem for me but might be for you if you're an early bird. It's $50 a month for just a basic membership, and $80 a month for the advanced membership, which seems like a lot.

Everything that made this place good in the past has gone out the window. Equipment in disrepair, cleanliness standards are nonexistent. There is never staff available to resolve any issues. And watch whatever back account or card you have set up for payment because you will see unannounced fee hikes and surprise "enhancement" fees.

The gym is constantly filthy and falling apart. The staff there do not seem to care. They fiddle on their phones at the desk when they could be organizing and cleaning. Trash overflows, paper towel dispensers run empty, and the locker room and bathroom is disgusting. Membership is clearly dropping and now they are going to raise rates which will probably only make things worse membership-wise. I wouldn’t be surprised if they closed up without notice. We need a top gym operator to come in and make this gym what it should be. I would gladly pay more if I felt like it was a quality operation. This one is clearly on its last legs.

I bought a week pass for the gym as I was traveling. The gym is big but the equipment was old and/or broken.

The problems:
- The heavier dumbbells were stripped of their rubber so it was just jagged metal on each end. - - There are plates there that don’t fit on the barbells.
- The benches are ripped and have frayed duct tape instead of new benches.
- The floor is warped and I tripped twice from giant bubbles in the middle of paths.
- There is a section for premium users that includes a lot of weights and the sled. No one could tell me if my pass worked there.

All in all one of the worst gyms I’ve ever been to, including planet fitness. If there was parking at another gym I would’ve gone there. Do not waste your time or money. This gyms heyday has long since passed.

If you dare go to this dump, do not give them your credit or debit card information. They charged my card for 15 months after I canceled my membership, effectively stealing about $375. My bank and I are currently fighting with them to get my money back, and it's not going well. If anyone from World Gym is reading this, if you charge my card again my next call is to the police.

To start, this gym has a wide variety of equipment, both newer and older. It also has a small selection of protein snacks and drinks. The women’s locker room was awesome as well, can’t speak for men’s. Hair station, showers, lockers. The machines are great, but the free weight area is dirty and the pile of attachments for cables is unorganized and grimy. I don’t like being in a gym that makes me feel dirty just because I used the equipment available to me. On top of that, barely anyone wipes anything down. The gym could have some awesome potential to be a great place to workout if the staff cared more about keeping up with organizing and cleaning the facility. I run both the front desk and clean the entire gym where I’m from, and despite there being one person dedicated to the desk, and one guy walking around bored β€œcleaning”, my hometown gym is in much better condition. If you set a precedent to keep the space clean as staff and management by exhibiting the behaviors yourself, then the people who go will start to care more about the place too. The front desk lady was very kind, and I feel bad writing this, but I just don’t know if I’d come back. It’s a great gym otherwise.

BIG shout out to World Gym for their kindness and generosity! Thanks to World Gym, my coworkers and I have been able to train together, offering a free membership as active duty military members. The front desk staff is always friendly, the space is clean, and I absolutely love the natural light from all their large windows. It’s also nice that they have some bars and drinks available to purchase if I ever forget my nutrition. Thank you again for enabling us to maintain and improve our fitness!

Been coming to World Gym about 3 months now. Great equipment, lots of space, friendly staff, good hours, and the vibe feels like a do-work-space but also welcoming. My only complaint is the steam sauna that seems permanently out of service, and the dry sauna that just doesn't get that hot. These were both determining factors for me signing on, and it's super disappointing. I think these would set World Gym a step above other options in Portland.

I was walking out tonight at 7:59 and they guy working was standing in front of the last people working out, looking at his phone, waiting for it to say 8:00. He then yelled "8:00 guys! You should be going home..." Throws up his arms and shakes his head. If you're going to treat guests like this I'd change the big WG clock on the wall so that it's not two minutes slow.

They Condone Sexual Harassment - fact. As long as its a 50-year old woman doing it to a 29-year-old guy.
Happened to me twice. Talked directly to the manager about it. This thin old creepy blonde woman that touched me is still working out at the facility, making it awkward for me to pass by.

Oh, you think I'm faking this review, world gym? Keytag number 228621. Go ahead and talk to me. Lets make it a WCSH6 story :)

Decent gym for the price. Good assortment of equipment. Usually enough lifting stations. Wifi.

My only complaint is that it is too hot and humid. There aren't any fans besides a few overhead. I can't do cardio without having a heat stroke.

Good price, great location. Good trainer.
If my trainer left, I would be gone.

My negatives are that the showers are disgusting. Black mold on the ceiling. Floors in showers are dirty, visibly so.

Gym area is generally clean but possibly because customers frequently clean the equipment before or after use.

I thought the gym had good equipment and it was clean. It has a good layout and plenty of room and mirrors to accommodate a crowded gym. I saw no broken equipment and most of it appeared new. I thought the lockers were big compaired to most gyms and the locker room was clean. They have a sauna and steam room which is a huge plus.

My main complaint was the staff, if not for the front desk person I would have given it 5 stars.

I've never seen someone who obviously hated their job more than the girl at the front desk. She had a permanent frown on her face and I honestly felt like an inconvenience for interrupting her standing at the empty front desk. I arrived at around 3pm and after paying for a day pass I was informed they were closing at 5. Two hours is plenty of time to get a workout in, but I think I should have been told before paying.

This place has a great gym and there is a great group of people that go there, the staff are pretty friendly as well. However, on numerous occasions this place has wrongfully taken, or attempted to wrongfully take my money.

I canceled my membership because my wallet was stolen from THEIR locker room, and the staff made no efforts to help me track it down. I canceled all of my cards and the card I signed up with was one of them. However, despite me cancelling my membership, I was charged at the beginning of next month anyway. I was informed that even though I had canceled at the beginning of January, I still had to pay for the following month of February. I also paid late fees because my stolen card was declined.

A few months later I get another call from their collection agency, Twin Oak. They tell me that I now owe World Gym $40 more dollars, on top of the $31 that I already paid for a month in which I never once stepped foot in the gym.
This $40 charge was a "maintenance fee" charged every February to annual members... mind you, I had a one month membership from December 10 or so until January 3, at which point I cancelled my membership.

So now I was being charged for an annual maintenance fee for a membership to a gym that I had cancelled not even a month after signing up, and after all was said and done I had paid for 3 months of membership, plus late charges for the last month, and a $40 dollar "maintenance charge" for annual members, just to spend 3 weeks at a gym in December, only to have my wallet stolen out of their locker room.

Moral of the story, great gym, but a great place to have money stolen from you (in various ways, they're greasy.)

Management is terrible at this gym. Responds poorly to feedback about the lack of cleanliness in the gym, continuously broken equipment, and cancellation of classes that members like. They frequently get rid of good instructors and the classes they keep are outdated. Basically, it seems as though they couldn't care less about their customers, because with their low rates they are always pretty full, with a large young crowd. I have noticed a good many of the regular members are no longer putting up with it and have left, as have I.

PROS & CONS: I appreciate the cleanliness of the gym, the machine and free weight options, as well as the friendly staff. During the times I go (generally off-peak), World Gym is not overly crowded.

However, I have five negative comments with regard to malfunctioning/broken equipment, lack of management response to ongoing problems, temperature of the women's dressing room, and the loud volume of the music. If a piece of equipment is not functioning properly, when you talk to management or staff, they will listen but sometimes they simply do nothing to solve the issue, even after being kindly reminded several times and allowed months or years to fix the problem. There is one piece of equipment widely used by members that has been broken for about three years. The fix is simple and inexpensive, and management is aware of it but does nothing. The women's dressing room is unacceptably cool most of the year. Management has heard about this problem from numerous members over the years but does nothing. Lastly, World Gym plays typically plays poor quality music LOUDLY (esp. loud in the women's locker room). If you have the misfortune to be working out near the cycling room, which BLARES its music with the door open, you will be exposed to two forms of loud music. For an establishment devoted to health, they should be aware that exposure this volume of music, especially for any length of time, does irreparable damage to hearing. I recommend they hire a local audiologist or the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health for a one-time visit to do an evaluation. I recommend people wear hearing protection. (Other issues with World Gym are minor, and I accept or overlook them because the membership rates are low and, therefore, some compromises are to be expected.)
