I highly recommend A Plus’s after-school program and am a huuuuge, huge, huge fan of Master Yoon! My son, K., has been with A Plus since he was 4 years old—the youngest age they accept—and his experience has been nothing short of outstanding. Initially, K. started with Master Kim, Master Jose, and Master Yoon, and I signed him up for Taekwondo because unfortunately, my kid was scrawny, small, a little shy, and I was worried he was going to get beat up in school, probably a lot. At the very least, I wanted him to be able to protect himself or run away really quickly and survive. However, A Plus delivers so much more. It's not just a place to learn taekwondo or do homework. For my kid, it is almost a second-home. Master Kim and Master Jose were wonderful. I was really amazed with the way Master Kim taught; it was so engaging, high-energy, fun, and built resilience because Master Kim didn’t accept sub-par attempts but his corrections were always kind and gave a chance to do better; an excellent coach-type vibe, and Master Kim always took time to correct errors in students’ attempts—you could see students improving week to week. When Master Jay took over, I was initially uncertain because I wasn’t familiar with Master Jay, but Master Jose and Master Yoon continued to uphold the program's excellence, so I gave it more time, and am glad that I did.

What really sets A Plus apart from other places is their after-school program. Master Yoon is the best! She truly shines in this so very much that it’s hard to put into words. Master Yoon is exceptional at communication and goes above and beyond to ensure that parents are always informed—whether it’s about snow days, early dismissals, belt testing, photo days, etc.; she’s not just responsible, but genuinely invested in the kids’ well-being. Master Yoon picks the kids up from school, teaches them their homework if they get stuck (doesn't just give them the answers), provides craft activities or games when there isn't Taekwondo that day, and verifies that they have eaten their lunches before offering snacks. She treats the children with the thoughtfulness, discipline, and the level of care of a responsible parent+teacher+coach all in one—balancing affection with the necessary boundaries to teach self-confidence, responsibility, consideration and respect of others, kindness, discipline, and basically how to be a good kiddo.

I sincerely, deeply appreciate her approach because I know that it is far less resistance (less pushback from kiddo, less pushback from some parents probably, too!) for other adults in my kid's life, to take the easy route—being lenient and letting things slide—but that doesn’t help kids in the long term. Too often, other adults interacting with my kids don’t have the same long-term view to his growth as a person, and I find myself having to undo some really bad habits that came from lack of care or excessive doting. But with Master Yoon, I know my son is being guided consistently in the right direction. It’s clear that she truly cares about his growth—not just as a student of Taekwondo, but as a good citizen of the community, as a decent human being.

When I was searching for a dojang for K., I wanted one where he would not only feel safe and supported but where the masters would genuinely care about his development and instill good values. I didn’t want a place that behaved like an overpopulated daycare, where kids run wild, bullying occurs, or where no one takes the time to teach them discipline. A Plus is the complete opposite of that! A Plus after-school offers true dedication to helping kids reach their full potential. The level of care, time, energy, and heart that Master Yoon and the A-Plus team put into building and supporting the kids is unparalleled. Totally can't wait to get my other kid into A-Plus; just waiting for that 4th birthday! =)

When my daughter first joined this program, I thought it would just teach basic skills. But over time, I saw that the studio focuses on much more than that. A Plus Taekwondo is an amazing hidden gem in Germantown. My son has been enrolled for the last 2 years and it's been a great experiencing not only learning Taekwondo but important life skills such as focus, discipline and hardwork. The little Tigers program is great for preschoolers and build a great foundation to continue into the children's class.

From the very first class for my "Little Tiger", it was clear that Master Jay genuinely cares about each student's growth, both as martial artists and individuals. The classes are well-structured and cater to all skill levels. Still thinking whether I will review or not since what happened to me was long time ago. My son use to attend to this place for more than a year before.
We went to class one day and my son was wearing the Taekwondo shirt and a black pants (not jeans) and we were told that we cant go to class that day. They did not consider so I went home with my son.
Next class, we went there and saw other kids wearing the taekwondo shirt and other regular pants. I have felt so bad because they allowed other kids to wear regular pants and for us they dont. I feel discrimination and all they care is about their business and no consideration at all.

I originally joined A Plus Taekwondo in order to continue honing my martial arts skills after university. And I must say that Master Jay, Master Kim, and Mrs. Yoon have done an excellent job of helping me do so.

Important skills are taught in the form of varying types of lessons, which keeps things interesting. The lessons are also great cardio / calisthenic workouts.

During the pandemic, the establish has done well to maintain proper sanitary and social distancing measures, as well as provide access to those who still choose not to come in through live Zoom sessions.

I would recommend this studio for anybody interested in learning Taekwondo. You will not be disappointed.

I am mother of three kids and they have been training for three years with Aplus Taekwondo. My husband and I joined adult class a year ago. We used to take classes everyday not only for physical training but also the bright energy from APlus studio. While having fun learning Taekwondo with friends and sharing time with family, my kids got chances to feel self-confidence and humbleness that make them feel great. Nearly 4 month of quarantine without Aplus studio wasn’t easy. However, Mrs Yoon and Master Jay kept encouraging us not to give up exercising by offering many alternatives. Especially, 6 feet private lesson during spring season was a perfect solution: very well organized and safe program that my little ones were able to enjoy (one to one class in our garden). Each time Mrs. Yoon and Master Jay showed up in our parking lot, my kids were very excited and happy. Virtual class was also great and my kids were waiting every day to meet their friends online and have fun exercising together. Since the end of June, we are taking private and small group classes in the studio, and we believe this is the best option of all to do taekwondo. Thank you Mrs. Yoon and Master Jay for your hard work allowing us to practice Taekwondo every day during covid in a very engaging atmosphere !

My daughter started taking classes at A Plus Taekwondo after her 6th birthday when she was having anger issues at school. I wasn't sure at first because I really thought she would lose interest after a few weeks in favor of ballet or swim lessons. Months later she is still taking 3-4 classes per week and I've seen a huge change in her behavior at school as it's a great way to release all the built up energy. The instructors, Master Kim and Ms. Yoon are so patient yet firm with children. Really unbelievable . . . like child whisperers! It is so nice to have other authority figures for your children to look up to and aspire to be like. I can't say enough good things about this Martial Arts school. Would recommend you come in and try a class if you are on the fence for you or your child!

My children have been attending the after-school program as well as the daily classes at A Plus Taekwondo for over 3 months. It's been a very positive experience. Both the owner and the instructor are great with kids. Respect and manners are emphasized from the first time you walk in the door, and they are very consistent with that expectation. While the lessons are serious, the kids always have fun.
They also have adult Taekwondo classes, and the students always recommend it to me (though the owner and instructor have never tried to pressure me into it in any way). The owner also leads pilates and yoga classes, though I have not taken part in that.
