When I was little I went here. I will say the owner and a few of the teachers weren’t too bad but most teachers seemed like they didn’t care or were too stressed out to find solutions to any issues. I was shy and didn’t like speaking up but they constantly punished the whole group if one child did something wrong. Instead of working with the kid that caused the issue or just punishing them they would have all of us write 100 sentences over and over again and they definitely followed the children should be seen not heard approach. I have more negative memories than positive from when I went here. They even had us do physical punishment even if we weren’t apart of the karate class. Wall sits for god knows how long and planks. I did the after school and the summer camp.

My son has been attending ASKA for the past 3 years. The ASKA are more than caregivers, they are family. I never have to worry about the safety or well-being of my child. The staff is great with communicating to parents and always have fun activities for the kids, in addition to karate. They provide before care, after care and summer camp. They are also open when schools end early or are closed (except holidays); which is great for us working parents.
Thank you ASKA staff for all the care you provide to our children. You are greatly appreciated!

My son has attended After School Karate Academy for over 3 years. He participates in the after school, summer camp and Karate programs and loves it. The staff treat the students as family and quickly get to know new students. The summer camp is fun and provides a lot of field trips throughout the week for the children. There has never been a question of safety when my child is in their care as the staff are attentive to all students and situations. He will attend their aftercare program again this school year.

Decided to leave a review as some of the reviews seem unfair as they where during a Covid time. I am remembered by name and always asked how my day was. They do good job with the kids and make sure that it’s fair and fun for all

called from work to obtain information for families who were interested in enrolling and was told by the gentleman “he does not have time to talk”. And cut the call.

STAY AWAY. This place is horrible. My four year old child was physically assaulted at this facility and the staff denied it. They didn’t even inform me about his injury, write an incident report; or administer first aid. The owner DOES NOT respect women. He only cares about MONEY. Staff DOES NOT supervise young kids appropriately in the classroom or when they go to the restroom. They are grossly understaffed and DOES NOT follow CDC guidelines. Some mornings there is trash on the floor and tables at 7:00 am, and kids are sitting at filthy tables without adequate supervision. There are about 30 kids in a small class with one adult, and the kids sit next to each other - No social distancing. Some kids don’t wear a mask. I wouldn’t bring my dog to this place.

My son was there 3 weeks and got COVID. They take zero precautions to protect the children, and have 18 plus kids in a small classroom setting. The kids seem to routinely have their masks hanging off during pick up, with no reiteration to keep on, and same with staff. Kids are allowed to share toys, iPads, and other personal items from home which isn’t the smartest given today’s environment and not being able to sanitize personal items brought in. There should be some precautionary measures in place for these children such as limiting class sizes, providing hand sanitizer to each child upon entering and exiting the facility, routine hand washing, mask reiteration, and daily deep cleaning of all areas. The owner will say “its the kids bringing the virus not us.” There were over 5 cases of covid in the first grade class that I know of. Had precautions been in place I absolutely believe that could’ve been prevented. My son has done swimming, basketball and so many other activities this summer which all went above and beyond to be precautionary for the children they serve and NO COVID CASES at those venues!!! Cases will happen yes HOWEVER mitigating the exposure to others and your staff should be a top priority! When notified of a positive case children should not still be permitted in that area! Common sense would be to shut off that area and deep clean immediately! I would much rather find alternative care for my son for a day to deep clean the facility versus having him there exposed and then you all do it at night! I was never notified of the app alert system which alerts you of cases apparently, when I registered my son. I was informed by another parent of the positive case alert for one child and unfortunately was to late as my son and other classmates had already contracted it. : ( He since has been removed! I blame myself partially for not removing him the very first time I saw mask off other children! I also assumed they had professionals coming to deep clean areas daily but instead was told the teachers use a approved solution to wipe down desk. I can’t imagine those teacher’s doing so because it’s only a few of them as is and shouldn’t have to teach all day then be responsible for the cleanliness of the facility??? This really upset me as my son loved the karate class and was really looking forward to continuing there.

I usually don’t write reviews but I felt compelled to write this one due to the excellent service I have received from the After School Karate Academy.
It is going on 5 years that I have utilized ASKA’s services. The staff are always kind and extremely supportive! As a parent, we always have concerns about the safety and care of our children. Thankfully, ASKA has never given me any reason to worry about my childrens’ well being.
I thank God for ASKA and the “Peace of Mind” it has given me throughout the years!

My 5 year absolutely loves this program. He looks forward to going each day after school. 4 days a week he has karate and on Fridays they have free day in the gym. The staff are friendly and responsive. I love that they stay open until 7 pm. While I've never exercised this option it's great just in case I have a late day or an emergency.

students are not only at aftercare, but they are learning life skills in Karate!! Students are also picked up from their school then they are transported to the Academy. They have home work clubs and parents night out; which I think is really awesome!! Great place for kids.

My 6 year old daughter started summer camp and she absolutely loves it. The staff is great, very friendly and you are acknowledged as soon as you walk through the door which made me feel comfortable leaving my child because they pay attention to everyone that comes in and out. They do something different with the children every single day!! I highly recommend!!

I have called the Academy twice this week about my concerns with the van driver. I observed the van driver getting ready to smoke a cigarette within seconds of the children getting off the van at Woodmore ES. I called the academy and they said they would address it because she shouldn’t be smoking in the vehicle used to transport children. Today, I observed the driver smoking in the van a short distance from Woodmore ES.I called again and they said they would follow-up. I guess they aren’t as concern as parents would be about their children being possibly exposed to secondhand smoke. For this reason, I will never send my children to his program or recommend it to anyone.

Our son has become more confident in everything he does since starting after care at After School Karate Academy. Everyone there cares and takes pride in what they do. The students that help the kids with their homework are great. And best of all, he's learning karate and loving it!

My daughter has been attending ASKA for three years and I am more than satisfied! The staff is excellent; caring and dependable. Mr. Ray, the nucleus of ASKA, is always there to answer questions and provide direction to the staff. His leadership is second to none. The owner is always on site - - very approachable and hands on.
Mr. Lashly and Ms. Joyce (tae kwon do instructors) are both professional and caring. My daughter's confidence has grown due to this program. Mr. Lashly has the ability to bring the best out in every student. He expects the best and demands nothing less; very disciplined!
Overall rating is excellent! The facility is always clean and inviting. Parents are welcome to speak with the staff at any time. As a bonus, ASKA offers parents night out for a very reasonable price. My daughter loves this place. There are many other programs offered within Bowie, but I will never leave ASKA. Well worth the money!!!!!!
