Body & Brain Yoga Tai Chi is a yoga studio in North Potomac offering holistic wellness classes consisting of yoga, tai chi, meditation, and breathwork based on 5000-year old Korean traditions. We offer a variety of yoga classes for beginners and more advanced classes to energize and heal the mind, body, and spirit.

Everyone needs to take a class at Body and Brain at least once! Once you do you will be so glad you did. Body and Brain isn't your average yoga class that you typically see these days. It utilizes a multi pronged approach to your health, encompassing physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects that will help you feel better in tune with yourself and the world around you. The feeling at the end of a Body and Brain class is pure heaven...your body stretched, your mind cleared. I have been practicing for a couple of years now. The instructor, Chun Nim has helped me so very much through some difficult times in my life (medical trauma and anxiety from a cancer diagnosis). The Body and Brain community is vibrant and welcoming. They host workshops and retreats to further grow your practice. Grateful to the Body and Brain instructors and friends for dramatically improving my life for the better.

Always come out of class feeling centered and grounded and better prepared for the rest of the day. And Chun, the instructor, is one of the best people I've ever met who genuinely invests in you personally - coming from someone who is very picky about the character of instructors (for anything). Fantastic if you're looking for long-term personal growth, a mindfulness and self-development practice that does not judge your capabilities, but meets you where you're at to nurture your own potential. This is a life changing (and for me now - a lifelong) practice. When I first found my way to this studio, my body was so stressed that my systems were on the brink of shutting down, especially my digestive organs. I was reacting to many foods, which was having a significant, detrimental impact on my health - because if you can't eat and absorb nutritious food, you can't thrive or perhaps even survive! Additionally, I had been misdiagnosed by two medical doctors who simply prescribed very expensive, strong, ineffective, and in one case, dangerous meds.
However, at this studio, with dedicated, regular practice and with the help of wonderful, caring teachers, I have completely healed my body - literally, from the inside out!!
Honestly, there are no words to describe the deep gratitude I feel on a daily basis. I have tried many other forms of yoga - Everything from Vinyasa to Bikram, and nothing even comes close to the true emotional, spiritual, and physical healing that this practice delivers (effortlessly). If you're ready to prosper in every possible way in your life, then definitely give this a try, with an open mind. All too often, people have preconceptions about what a "yoga" practice should look like (i.e., Indian style Hatha or Vinyasa) but you have to leave these behind if you are interested in complete mind-body-spirit healing.Think Tai Chi, meditation, mindfulness and "working the issues out of your tissues" rather than a generic and predictable yoga practice.

The center managers and instructors are very caring and passionate about what they are doing. I joined Dahn Yoga in Rockville before since I had a stiff neck and left leg pain sometimes. My neck was painful when I carried a purse. After attending class and the private sessions, I have no more pain on the neck and left leg. After the Dahn Yoga in Rockville closed, I started to go the Dahn Yoga in Gaithersburg. The instructors are warm and are welcome. Continuing the yoga class, I feel my body more flexible. I feel relax and have more energy.

I like this yoga studio. Warm heart instructors. after a trial class, my shoulder loosen up. It was not like the really physical type of exercise I had experience before. I felt my clouded head lighten. The most amazing thing was I felt energy between my hands at the end of the class. My stress level went down immediately. The style of yoga is sorta a Korean variation of yoga. the instructor is very warm-hearted and I decided to try a class after a friend mentioned it. Anita is my guardian angel. I was over worked full time school and work and i came in for a session. My first and only yoga class. Although I’ve seen my regular physician every year faithfully (same doctor for almost 10 years) i had never had an issue. Long story short at the end of my first yoga session (that was amazing and peaceful) Anita asked could she push on my stomach to complete the breathing exercise. I said sure and she felt my stomach gently. She immediately said that i had a large fibriod and asked had i noticed or any doctor noticed and they had not. Simply by pushing on my stomach she noticed what my doctors had missed. I returned to my doctor the next day for an appointment and he assured me nothing was wrong. He scheduled a sonogram at my request and guess what? Two huge fibroids 11 cms on each side! I had emergency surgery to remove yesterday and the fibroids were actually 15 cm! They would have continued damage to my ovaries and gotten worse in my stomach. Even sore from surgery i feel lighter, better, happier.. These are the real doctors, the holistic ones who heal from within. God bless Anita you are my angel

If you have the opportunity to go try a class do something good for yourself and go! It is so much more than yoga. Body & Brain yoga's methods are unique and very effective, from the very first class I experienced a deep connection between my physical body, my energy body and my spiritual body; I left the center feeling great not only physically because of all the meridian stretches but also, to my surprise, feeling happy, peaceful and very much aware of myself like I had not felt in a long time. So much so that I have not stoped attending classes and workshops since that first day. It positively changed my life completely! I have been coming here for about 2 months. I really like the combination of low-impact exercises, stretching and relaxation. I've tried more traditional yoga before, but my wrists hurt so much I couldn't continue. Here everything is low-impact, nothing too strenuous, allowing you to build up your strength gradually. The relaxation techniques really helped reducing my stress level, and putting things in perspective. The staff is great! They feel like family. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for something more than just cardiovascular exercises.

Dahn Yoga is a Korean therapeutic system designed to solve emotional problems through various physical and behavioral exercises.

At first I was rather hesitant to go, expecting to find yet another shallow attempt at making phys-ed for adults more palatable by sprinkling it with Eastern spirituality. But as I watched my wife opening after taking their classes, getting better at handling stress and challenges, I decided to give it a try. Now, I'm a Master of Science in Computer Engineering and a long time student of Eastern philosophies, so as you can imagine my bar is set pretty high when it comes to these things. I also have tons of emotional problems rooted in my dysfunctional family childhood, so I must be a perfect test subject to try the therapies on. What I found at Dahn was a brilliant and authentic system rooted in genuinely enlightened spirituality, only a little bit tainted by uneven execution by the local centers.

Their practice is organized in tiers, getting deeper (and more expensive!) as the student progresses, starting with regular classes that provide ongoing conditioning through stretching and breathing, to weekend workshops that help you discover, heal, and integrate the suppressed layers of your psyche, to remote seminars teaching advanced psychosomatic energy management techniques and how they can be applied in social context to drive change and create harmony via responsible and spiritually enlightened leadership.

The good news is that the system works. Within a year of taking their classes and workshops I was able to identify a bunch of hidden pathological patterns, the childhood events they were rooted in, and strategies for overcoming them in my day to day situations. In this sense Dahn is virtually as effective as specialized therapy, at a fraction of the cost. The bad news is, much of the personnel are recent immigrants (from Korea), and while this makes them perfect carries of the system, it certainly gets in the way of them being able to effectively present it to western audience.

Still, if you are willing to overlook the somewhat amateurish execution, and have the determination to apply the system for your own good, both in and out of the class, you will benefit from a tremendously deeper therapy than a regular yoga studio could provide.

I had terrible back pain and had trouble bending forward and experienced pain and stiffness when I wake up in the morning. My PCP suggested Dahn Yoga since she has found tremendous improvement in her arthritis and few other issues. I had my initial in-take and started my first class- it was very different from traditional yoga that I am used to, This yoga focused on breathing,stretching, removing blockage to enable energy flow,meditation, self healing, positive thoughts to name a few.
Within 3 months (attending class 3X a week) I saw great improvement in my back. I am not experiencing pain or stiffness anymore. I love the Yoga practice and the staff are GREAT, I recommended this to my husband and He loves it too. we are taking our son who has Autism and he enjoys his session.

Fantastic training! They have a unique style, and it really works. More than just a stretching class, it works the body, mind and spirit. Really fun also, and the instructors are caring and genuine. If you haven't tried it, give it a try.

My mom has been going to this place for a while and she absolutely loves it. She has been saying how Dayong and YooSoo are incredible. I went with her Thursday, and now I can say for myself that she was absolutely right. YooSoo taught the class. Before the class she asked to see what I would like to concentrate on, and it seemed that she concentrated on that the whole class. I felt weak and tired before the class. After the class I was full of energy. Both my mom and I definitely recommend this place.

Maters in Dahn Yoga actually changed my life. I went in the center in a very bad shape mentally and physically two years ago. I am so glad that I joined Dahn Yoga almost a year ago. My reason for joining was to improve my flexibility and musculoskeletal health; but, practicing Dahn Yoga provided me with much more. Dahn Yoga has helped me to relax and clear my mind.
By doing energy meditation, I feel grounded, clear about my feelings and more connected to myself, to others, and even to the universe.
Although, I can do Dahn Yoga at home, I love to practice it at the Gaithersburg center, particularly when I am exhausted and experience negative emotions. The center masters, Yoo Soo and Dayong, are welcoming, loving, and caring. They and the other instructors provide guidance that makes me feel empowered and positive. They also enable me to focus and pay attention to my senses, and be at the β€œpresent moment.”
I highly recommend Dahn Yoga.

It has now been almost 1 year since I started Dahn Yoga and I can honestly say that I have grown in so many ways. The breathing basis and relaxation techniques have helped me to reduce my stress and fell a sense of calm which I appreciated tremendously. I have learned so many different forms of exercise that I now practice both at the center and at home.
The sincerity of the instructors is so genuine and I am just trilled that I start this grow process for both my physical well being and mental as well. I highly recommended this program to anyone who would like to become more flexible and have more positive outlook toward life......

I first went to Dahn Yoga Gaithersburg upon retirement to learn how to take care of myself physically. I soon learned that Dahn Yoga teaches that and much more. In fact, at first, some of the classes were so different than anything I had experienced, I found myself a little hesitant. But the masters were extremely friendly and helpful, and I felt sooooo good. So I kept going. I learned that the Dahn practices of physical, mental and spiritual health are very holistic and healing. Because of my exposure to Dahn's eastern philosophies, I am growing in ways I didn't even realize possible. I am eternally grateful to the Dahn masters for much more than just my physical health.

I have been a Dahn Yoga member for a little over a year and half now, and what a change from before. My chronic constipation is gone, I am more flexible and sleep so much better at night. The biggest benefit I get from the Dahn Yoga practice is being able to quiet my mind , and feel much calmer.

I had a lot of stress in my past years and I haven't had cured to that. I always came home with an attitude and with a lot of angriness. I had too much stress and am too young to have any kind of stress. I started to take classes at DAHN YOGA. I kept going to the classes for about 3 months and realized I changed emotionally and physically. I have now more confidence and happier. My attitude is no longer present in me. I highly recommend for you to join these classes because it's 100% worth it to be part of your life.
