Disappointed with the Gym’s Condition and Customer Service

I’ve been a paying member of Compel fitness but I stopped attending because of the poor conditions. The gym is not well-maintainedβ€”many pieces of equipment are damaged, the cleanliness is lacking, and the overall smell makes it an unpleasant place to work out. For the price members are paying, I expected much better upkeep.

On top of that, the customer service is extremely unprofessional. When I recently received a billing request, the tone was rude and disrespectful. I understand that businesses need to collect payments, but there’s a right way to communicate with customers. The staff member who contacted me is not even the owner, yet spoke in a way that was completely unacceptable.

I hope they take feedback seriously and improve both their service and facility conditions for future members.

The company is very shady. The representative who signed me up blatantly lied to me about several aspects of the plan and omitted key information. I was told that it was a monthly subscription, yet you are actually agreeing to a 52 week contract. I was also told that you could cancel any time, which is untrue. There is actually a fee equalling 15% of the full year price if you want to cancel, which for the once a week plan is $468. I definitely feel like I got scammed. And while I was reading the fine print on the multiple pages of the contract that the representative did not show me at sign up, I found a clause in there about how the program auto renews yearly. The exercise program itself seems good for getting started or building general fitness. However, I was told that I would receive a plan that was tailored to my personal goals, so I feel misled in this regard as well since it is definitely not personalized.

Mark Bailey is a great trainer, extremely helpful and is always available for me whenever I need help or tips on my fitness. He’s helped me get my body right over the past 2 years I’ve been here. Wouldn’t be where I am in my fitness journey without him!

Michael Oyefusi is another awesome trainer who has also helped me get great workouts in and is a pleasure to work with. He’s always energetic and easy to talk to about whatever I may be struggling with while working out.

Overall great experience with both of these trainers, highly recommend.

Mark and Kevin are awesome! They helped me gain some serious weight on my lifts and helped me get my diet check in check. If you are hesitant on getting a trainer don’t be it’s worth it and they are more than happy to work with you to make sure you are able to reach your goals. Bench started at 265 lbs and 16 weeks later it is now at 305 lbs. Squat went from 345 lbs to over 405lbs. Deadlift went from 345 lbs to 495 lbs. All in just 16 weeks!

Had a really bad experience with a now former employee of Compel that put me on a training program incompatible with my disability that lead to injuries.

This program appears good for beginners and people that want to lose weight. The training consists of small group circuits and definitely not standard personal training as the marketing and sales team would make it appear to be. The classes have pre-set circuit exercises for participants that rotate in and out every 15 minutes or so. It is more like a small group fitness boot camp and not really personal training. The trainers definitely don’t work with people with disabilities and injuries.

I was disappointed by the elementary nutritional planning that the previous management was using. I was expecting at least macronutrients calculated from age, gender, weight, height and activity level. Instead, a cut sheet, not very customized, beginner meal plan was presented.

Overall would recommend for a beginner that wants to lose weight.

My experience with Mark and Kevin has been nothing short of exceptional since day 1. They are both highly attentive and responsive. They check in on my workouts every day they see me in the gym, are there for any questions I have, review form when I send them videos, and even give me the occasional spot.

Quantifiably, my progress has been more than I could have expected in 5 weeks. Sticking to their program and diet to a T, my maxes on deadlift and squat have gone up 40+ lbs, as well as bench by 20 lbs, and other key lifts and stability have drastically improved.

The workouts are very challenging but well suited for me and my goals thanks to Mark and Kevin.

Mark is one of the Best Trainer I have come across. Currently, he is the lead trainer and he pays attention to the form. He makes sure that other trainers, Tesia and Amari, also do the same. He stays over time to ensure I complete all my of my exercises. I also want to mention Aiden (who is not with compel fitness anymore). He was my favorite trainer because he would always bring enthusiasm, made sure my form is right, and I complete my whole session. All of them are caring and always encouraging. I love all of them!

I signed up for compel fitness sessions because I did not know anything about diet and exercise. I wanted to have strength and endurance. Compel fitness team members are caring, and motivate their clients. Eric signed me up and would check up on me. Bryanna was understanding; if I cancelled a session the last minute, I would get that session back. Mark always makes sure everyone has right form. Jessica, Aiden, and Tesia are my favorite trainers. I've been working out in gyms for about 20 years now, and plateau is an understatement. I knew it was time to switch up my routine. After talking to Kevin about the process, I had to give it a shot. I’m so glad I did!

Each member of the Glen Burnie Compel staff has contributed to my progress, and they continue to motivate me every time I step in the gym whether I’m in session with them or not. When at the gym on my own I can use the workout regimens provided. When I exercise at home or elsewhere, I’m armed with an arsenal of core and conditioning exercises I’ve learned so that I know I can get a complete workout in. The trainers have been wonderful at helping me correct even the smallest aspects of form, posture, and grip that go a very long way. The nutrition plan is easy to follow and they explain why it is so important. They also chart your progress which is another huge motivator.
Compel provides not only the motivation but also the knowledge needed to achieve your best results.

SHOUT OUT to my main coaches Mark, Tesia, and Amari who each uniquely bring their wealth of expertise in a fun and dynamic way. I always leave smiling and sweaty 😊

At first I was hesitant on joining Compell because I didn’t like group training and I was scared of a personal trainer. I’m new to working out as well so there is a lot of areas for improvement. I want to say I love this program and the trainers because I’m finally seeing drastic results, I’m constantly being pushed (in a good way), I’m working on form, and learning new things. Even in the team trainings I’m always being motivated by others in the class! I’m actually really happy with the program and the trainers! On top of it if I have any questions, need help with booking a class, or anything I’m always being assisted and the trainers are a call away. 10/10 recommend.

I would truly like to Thank Morgan from the Marley Station Golds Gym for convincing me to sign up with Compel Fitness. The first meeting we had was opening a new path in my life as she showed me the importance of posture, control, and how much I could accomplish with this program. Brianna introduced me to the Compel app with the exercise programs and diet to follow. Thus far Morgan has been the biggest support showing me the exercise program for each workout in detail. She truly cares about her clients and checks up with me daily when I come into the gym. She is an OUTSTANDING Asset to your group and I praise her with many kudos .

Read the cancelation policy before signing up. It's the greater amount between $250 or 10% of what's owed for membership. Also if want to cancel, you have to submit a cancelation letter by certified mail. But they won't cancel it automatically, you have to chase them and let them know you have proof you sent it and met the obligations of the policy. Yes they make it extremely difficult for cancelation. Took me 3 weeks and had to stay ahead on it.

Classes are decent. Miss one of the trainers who did really there and the new oness didn't have the same level of expertise.

These people are a complete scam. Told 300 a month for personal trainer. Instead they charged 600 a month for a gym class.

No matter what I tried could not get them to cancel. They just keep charging me every 2 weeks.

The workers are very friendly and work hard to make a dedicated plan for what you want out of your body. By asking you simple question and in depth ones about what you do on the regular and how your daily diet is. They find out what you want your body to look like and make a plan around that. They help make you a schedule and even meal prepping. I was helped by a compel worker named Sam and he was extremely helpful and fun to talk with about what I wanted to become and what I needed to do to achieve that. This is my first time getting a trainer but so far these past few workouts have made me feel better than ever before and I owe it all to Sam and compel because without them I wouldn’t have the motivation to keep myself going. With their motivation and helpfulness I truly believe anyone can have the body they desire.

I absolutely love the trainers for Compel Fitness at the Glen Burnie location. I've been doing the group training for about a year and a half and have seen great results. You can modify it to your fitness level too, which is great. I used to not be able to do standard push-ups at all but I can do 20 in a row now thanks to their help. While I don't recommend anyone signing up that is not serious about their reasons to join, I highly recommend the group sessions led by Head trainer, Alex, at the Glen Burnie location. He is motivating, and helpful without being pushy or condescending. The knowledge and versatility he uses to build an intense and high energy workout for a group that is also tailored for the individual. I had my doubts that this would benefit me as I have a lot of physical limitations from military service. He has proven to me that he not only cares, he remembers my limitations and helps me to work around them while still pushing.me

I am so glad that I decided to go another route and give Compel Fitness a try. Alex Suliga is amazing! Along with the entire Compel staff. I love the open communications. When in class he/they motivate you despite your desire to give up. With the semi-private classes you can really see that Alex puts thought and time into the work-out to what will benefit you and help you reach your personal goals. Trust when I say you are going to feel muscles you never knew existed!! Although it wasn't my first time in a gym; it was a LONG time since I've stepped into one. Things that I thought I knew..Alex has re-taught me along with things that I had no knowledge of. During the first sit down I walked away learning a lot of new information; not only through Alex but Thomas as well. All in all; I couldn't be any happier with the trainers and look forward to putting in the work. My workouts are not your traditional jumping jack and jog in place workouts but are evolving workouts that I've never seen or done before which makes the workouts exciting and I've been working out off and on for 20yrs! It's good to know that the trainers at Glen Beenie are up to date with 21st century workouts. In other words, no one wants to use a flip phone today when there is a smartphone. Likewise no one wants to do the traditional workouts when you have the TRX, etc...
Thanks to my trainner who holds me accountable to my eating habits and workout rotinie. I love the app cuz it helps me keep track of my calories, etc...

Complete scam and a waste of money. I get that they want you to pay for the first and last month, however they never flat out said it was a yearly contract, but rather insinuated it was month-to-month. Since I paid the first month in full, I did not think that I would be charged again until the second month. However, this is only my second week and they charged me ON TOP of what I paid for the ENTIRE first month. When I asked about getting a refund because it was an error on their part, they said there was nothing they could do. I'm now out an additional $160 plus the $600+ I paid when I first joined, and now I have to pay a cancellation fee. It's ridiculous, and bad business.

I have been working with the team at Compel since January 7th of this year. The staff has been really helpful. All the trainers are very positive. They do their best to keep me motivated when I'm ready to give up. My goal was to lose at least thirty pounds without a time frame in place. So far in less than a month I'm already down ten pounds. I recommend this group of trainers to anybody that wants to get in shape and enjoy it at the same time.

Excellent staff of knowledgeable, personable and talented trainers. Trevon, Aaron, Trish, and LJ are all obviously passionate about what they do. I look forward to my sessions each week, and on the days I'm not feeling so motivated, I can count on my team of trainers to get me in the right mindset. I'm doing exercises I didn't think I could, or didn't think I even liked, and I love it!! I'm really impressed with the changes in my body and my strength. Exercise has never been this enjoyable!!

Exceptional trainers. Compel program is like any normal program, fitness training credits expire if your life demands don't meet their time frame. Lost goals = lost money. The program also inidates you with surveys so often you want to cancel your membership. The trainers however genuinely care about your goals and progress, and truly want to see you exceed your own goals.
