The gym itself is great — very clean, well-maintained, and has a wide variety of equipment. I felt comfortable working out there, and the overall environment is solid.
However, the staff experience could have been better. When I arrived, no one explained the membership options unless I asked, and I had to request a tour instead of it being offered. It didn’t feel very welcoming for a first-time visitor, which was a bit disappointing.
That said, I’ll definitely be back — the cleanliness and variety of equipment make it worth it. I just hope the customer service improves a bit.

I actually like this place, the good thing.........they are tough on you racking your weights which is a good thing, they have childcare a few hours a day another good thing, the only downfall that I can tell is .......no dressing rooms other than that it's good, however the showers are a good size if you wanted to get dressed in the dry area

Really cool gym! It has an epic assortment of equipment—while consistently adding new equipment! The ethic of the gym is really cool. The mirrors are lined with LED lights and there is some really cool art on the walls. Definitely a great environment where everyone is pushing to be active and hit their goals together. Great staff always kind and nice. Chill gym best time to come is between 12-4. I’ve been coming here for 7 months and never had any problems. Plenty of space and different machines. Cardio area as well as a gym area and a great yoga area as well. Bathrooms are clean and space to shower and have lockers. A sauna as well which is nice. 24/7 open.

I liked this place when I lived in MD. Then I had to move. If you want to cancel a membership and you can’t physically go to the location to do it, they make it nearly impossible to do so. You can’t call them and cancel it. You gotta jump thru 97 hoops and they still might not cancel it. I paid this company YEARS of fees and I haven’t stepped foot in that gym since I left the state. They feed off military members that are constantly on the move. Spencer, the owner, has made an absolute fortune off people that do not use his services. Proceed with caution.

Lemme go a step further. After reading the reply to my review, I’m utterly appalled. I worked for a small business. For 20 years. Right down the road from your establishment. I would never trash a small business out of “spite”. Have you ever moved? Packed up a family..cats, dogs. You think the first thing on my mile long list of things to do was cancel my $20 gym membership? What I’ve always loved about small businesses is the fact that you get the non corporately, family feel you don’t get with national chains and large companies. You can call the owner or an employee who you know by name and they will help you. Not this place. They follow the most corporate set of “small business policies” I’ve ever seen in my life. I sent you a letter, years ago. Maybe you never got it. Who knows? The point is, it’s 2024. People use email, digital signatures. That way, when there’s an issue..there is a clear paper trail. The fact that you replied to this with anything other then an apology for being so unwilling to work with me to simply cancel a membership and then actually tried to guilt trip me for writing a review that was nothing but honest absolutely makes me sick. Your customer service is severely lacking. Anybody with an ego as large as the person who responded to this message has no business handling anything resembling customer service.

Updated: While I appreciate the fact that I will hopefully no longer be billed for a membership I reached out about cancelling many times in various forms over the years...the facts still remain the same. There was only a swift response to this issue when my wife resorted to leaving a negative review visible to the public. if she didn't. I would likely still be in the same boat. It is what it is. If you want to run a "small, family owned business". Then maybe consider updating your processes to reflect that instead of blaming me for throwing shade at you. It should be as easy for me to stop giving you money when I'm ready to as it is for you to remove it from my account month after month. I had a membership at LIFETIME Fitness. One of those big corporate gyms. Crazily enough, when i decided to cancel it (NOT IN PERSON) they simply did it. Stop playing the victim here. Maybe by chance you personally hadn't heard of this until now, but i can tell you for a fact there's more then one employee or manager that has and this was the first time its been addressed.

Hello! I visited the gym on 8/25/2025 and I was definitely impressed with the equipment. I love the old school vibes and that it’s truly a gym to train and not just “work out”. Some of the equipment like the pendulum squat are not found in commercial gyms. I go to DMV Iron and would definitely return back to Fitness evolution when I make my way back to Maryland again. One ask would be to offer guest passes to entice more folks to join if they local to the area. Kudos!!

This gym has more equipment than you could ask for. It is clean and has some of the newer machines out today. The atmosphere here is how it should be in terms of everyone getting along and helping one another. If you go to the gym just to workout and not socialize you can have the entire place to yourself around 3-5am because it never closes 🦾. So where does all this matter? I have gotten more results at this gym than any other I have ever been a member of hands down so....

Very unprofessional!!! Started off good and ended with a terrible experience at this gym. Trainers (one in particular) was very inappropriate with his “client”. Owner watches the cameras randomly and has the front desk attendant approach you mid workout. Certain trainers make you feel uncomfortable when you bring male guest (that you have to pay for) and accuse them of training you because you’re a women (I guess women can’t have male guest).

If you’re not looking to socialize and really just want to workout, do not get a trainer here. Super weird people….could be a good gym without the antics.

This gym has one of the best cycling/spinning core groups in the DMV. A jewel quietly kept I think. Nicer than when it use to be Golds. It had been a minute since I took a class. I thought my boy crazy Corey the King of Crunk was still there on Monday's torturing people but keeping it fun. I was told he is out for a min amd might come back. I hope he comes back. I lost 30 pounds between him and Tiffany when she use to teach. Nisha was still great it being my first time back in years and trying her. Im slowly easing back in but Rashaun and Uncle Anthony always on point. I will get to one of their classes as I ease back in.

Gym life just got that much better. I'm a natural early riser so getting there at 3AM makes a HUGE difference. Instead of my workout lasting that much longer because of the morning crowd, I'm out of there at a decent time while keeping a consistent HR rate because I don't have to wait on any machines/equipment.

Went there this morning on a guest pass. And I am definitely going to become a member (again). Yes, I was a member there 20 years ago when it was a Gold's gym but then I moved.

Anyway, it was great to see how they have kept up to date with the latest equipment. Yes, some of the same machines are their but crazy to see how they have kept up with the maintenance. Especially the cardio machines.

And I LOVE that they open at 4AM which is PERFECT for me.

Not trying to sound dramatic, but joining Fitness Evolution changed my life. Staff is so friendly, helpful, and encouraging (even at 4am open time! Don’t appreciate being watched like a hawk from the front desk associate. I went at 7pm because I thought the 1 day pass allowed you to try a class (it doesn’t, but that is NOT clear at all). I went to the locker room with my friend and as we were coming out, the front desk associate was peeping into the class to make sure I wasn’t there (just weirdo behavior).. Rules are rules but it’s ridiculous when it’s not consistent (this same friend was able to use the day pass for the class which is the whole reason I drove 40 minutes)

I absolutely love this gym! I've been a member for about 10 years. I love the constant renovations and new equipment the gym purchases so customers are abreast with the latest and best. The pricing is extremely inexpensive. The classes are amazing-Angel and Rashan are everything!!! Take a class with them and you will never be disappointed.

I didn't give my review 5 stars because sadly, I had a terrible experience with Glay-the newest cycle instructor. The first day I attended her 6 am class, her energy was high but she was rude. I thought she was simply having a bad day. Therefore, I went back the following week to the same class. She didn't speak (say good morning or anything)-just went right into her playlist and riding (I thought okay, fine she is just focused and in the zone). About 25 mins later, I get an alert on my phone that I need to check in to my flight for the next morning. I simply reach for my phone during a break in the class and attempt to check into my flight. She immediately yells "Girl, you and that phone." I ignore this statement. She continues to repeat the same statement. I finally say "I am checking in to my flight for tomorrow." She replies "Well this is not the class for you if you need to do that...the phone is a distraction." I've NEVER been told this in all my life or ever at this gym. I'm not sure how using a phone distracted her from riding a bike or teaching a class. Actually, in class so many people are often recording or taking pictures of their progress or sessions so I was very confused by this statement. She would even go to her ipad to view her song choices-is this a distraction? I understand she is older but 1) if she stated in the beginning of class that phone usage is prohibited in class-I would have been aware of her policy
2) came directly to me and asked if I could put away the phone because it is distracting her then I would have stepped out and used the phone then returned after.

Either way, this did not warrant the comment "this is not the class for you if you need to do that" even during a break. Her attitude is rude and lacks professional customer service which isn't a good fit at this gym. I hope this comment brings awareness to the problem and resolution. The matter has been reported to the manager and assistant manager as well.

Hey Everyone! I had to come and share this amazing gym. I currently have 2 gym Memberships and this gym is one of my favorites! Everyone is nice , I feel comfortable working out! The reason why I have 2 memberships Is because Horacio Zumba class hands down one of the best class I have seen! Im not really a dancer but when I attend his class I was sweating , moving and overall having fun! I absolutely love this gym. The staff are friendly, the equipment is plentiful (they have EVERYTHING!), and it's very very clean and sanitary. I miss the sauna but when we were able to use it before Covid, it was great! They give each member their own spray bottle and towel so you can wipe down the equipment before and after use. They also close for an hour each day to clean and disinfect. It's just a great gym, overall. The classes are great too! Love this gym.

As a female who has gone to countless gyms, this is the only gym that has made me feel so comfortable and welcomed in any part of this gym. Fitness evolution in Laurel is top notch! Not only is their equipment new, clean, and easily accessible but their staff is unmatched. Angel in particular is a certified fitness trainer and tabata instructor at the facility and I have had the pleasure of getting to know her this past year. That woman has seen it all!!! The tears, the sweat, and the struggle! She has continuously pushed me to be better and stronger and I can confidently say I would NOT be as far into my fitness journey as I am without her.

Fitness Evolution is one the best gyms in the region. Everything is top tier- from customer service, to the equipment and to the trainers. Both the culture and environment are extremely healthy, helpful and positive. The owner (Jose) goes above and beyond to keep the gym updated with the latest equipment and treats everyone as a family member.
Fitness Evolution is a very welcoming place to be regardless of the level of your fitness journey. It is also the cleanest gym I have been to. I am really proud to be a member of this facility and would highly recommend it to everyone.

I moved to the area a little over a year ago and I knew I didn’t want to join a big “commercial” gym, I wanted a small family like gym and that is exactly what I got when I found fitness evolution. One of the first things I did once I joined was take a class and that is where I met Angel! I met Angel at a really difficult point in my life and when I tell you her infectious laugh and personality was everything I needed-I mean that. Soon after taking her class, she became my personal trainer and it by far has been the best experience ever. Even on days I feel like not going to the gym or “can’t” do that last set Angel is always there pushing me along with other staff and gym members. I could come to a session with tears in my eyes and I would leave feeling 100% better because I had an amazing workout and trainer to push me and listen to whatever was going on. I have had a membership to a lot of gyms and had a few trainers but FE and Angel by far have been top tier!

I have been attending fitness evolution since the beginning of the year. This was the first gym I felt comfortable attending as a young black woman. The class instructors are diverse and love what they do. I have trained with Angel, who will motivate you to be the best version of yourself and probably one of the kindest people you will ever meet. The hours are incredible for people who work in education and sit all day!

I have nothing but great things to say about this gym. I "joined" during the pandemic by taking virtual Tabata classes instructed by Angel. She wound up becoming my trainer and I've been with her for the last year and a half.
Besides helping me reach my strength and body goals, she is a great motivator and uplifts everyone she encounters, even those she doesn't train.
Besides this, the gym is always clean and well taken care of.
I would highly recommend this gym as your home gym AND Angel as your trainer.

There’s a person who I believe to be a class instructor there named Angel who posted a HORRIBLY inappropriate and unprofessional video while at this gym. She made an “apologetic” post on instagram but that apology is useless as we already know how she feels… no way to treat us as members at this gym or anywhere this way. It’s a poor reflection on the gym and I will NOT be nor recommending her classes!

I've been a member since 2016. Since then, the quality has GREATLY improved under the new management. State-of-the-art equipment that's well-maintained, modern look, friendly atmosphere. For weight lifting, powerlifting, cardio or just a class here and there, I highly recommend.

Do not sign up with them unless you want to play a never ending game with them trying to cancel. They will not only argue you with when you want to cancel, but they will also charge you a cancellation fee and then also two additional months charges and try to tell you it’s all legit charges. I would give them a 0 star if it was possible.

Solid variety of equipment and free weights. Broken equipment is generally handled swiftly. I enjoyed the 9.99/month membership while it lasted. Now 19.99 since they need to make up for not paying their rent during 2020 Covid lockdowns. Understandable. Just glad they’re still there.

I've known about this gym for years now .. and recently moved to the area and decided to join. Let me just say this is not the fitness evolution that existed before. It has gotten a complete makeover. I will say i am use to more spacious gyms like la fitness but you can truly get a lot out of this small gym. Their equipment for legs no other gym in the laurel area can touch or come close to in my opinion. I will say a tiny downside is only time you really feel the size of the gym is when you go after 5 pm during the week like any gym thats prime gym time so i highly suggest going early in the morning to afternoon.

Went on Tuesday with a friend and their dance classes were awesome! The Mixed Fit and Zumba classes were so much fun and energetic. The instructiors were extremely encouraging and the class as a whole felt judgment free. It was the easiest two hour cardio I have ever done and I felt great afterwards. A clean gym and kind staff just made everything about this place enjoyable and different from other gyms.

Unprofessionalism is unmatched…
I started a membership with this gym well before the pandemic started and like a lot of others, I never went. That’s on me. I continued to pay the monthly membership fee with no issue as there was a contract signed. During the time the gym was closed after COVID hit, the gym stopped charging as members were unable to visit. After being closed and not charging for MONTHS, the gym reopens and beings charging fees again without warning, and I no longer living in the area immediately reached out to cancel my membership. They first told me there was “no option” to not charge my card although they had clearly made that choice during prior months. During the same call when asking about canceling the membership, I was told I had to physically come in the gym and sign papers, which was going to be too difficult given my new location. I advised I had moved and was then given the option to have someone else (not on the contract) who lived in the area to come in and sign the papers for me, which was not an option for myself so I was told a manger named Nicole would call me, but I never heard from her. I tried monitoring my account to make sure I could prevent future charges and because the gym charges membership fees on random days, that didn’t work. Ultimately, I had to call my bank and block the gym from future transactions because they refused to provide reasonable options on canceling a membership that was NEVER USED! Looking at the account confirmed I had never as much as used a treadmill in the establishment, asking me to have a friend forge my signature was just unprofessional on so many levels, and the determination to continue to charge my card after 2 years for an unused membership was just absurd. I have never experienced this level of desperation with a business before and with a lesson learned, I hope I never deal with this again. Jose and his staff seem to know a lot about fitness but not customer service.

I love Fitness Evolution ! They have endless classes, flexible hours, they’re clean ( they also provide a personal cloth and small spray bottle with disinfectant in it upon entry that you can use on equipment ) and you can still use their spin designated room when a class isn’t being held.

Leah's yoga class Saturday's 8-9 was easy to start, offered challenges and ended peacefully. We'd come back if we weren't only passing through. As a yoga teacher myself, it was definitely a treat to receive from another yogini. 🙏🏼Namaste! ✨

From the minute I walked in the door, I was blown away by the excellent customer service delivered by receptionist Janet, who patiently explained membership options and provided a tour of the new facility. The owner, Jose, personally took the time to sit down with me to discuss personal training options, as I am new to the gym. My trainer, T, exceeded expectations as well and worked with me to develop a nutrition strategy to achieve my fitness goals

I highly recommend this facility to anyone interested in an affordable , high quality gym. The staff is caring and the gym boasts updated equipment and even a sauna room for a very cheap rate compared to other gyms.

I've been going on and off to Fitness Evolution Laurel since 2018 and more consistently in the past year. In that time frame--I've seen a complete makeover happen at the gym. From a new paint job to new equipment to new disinfecting stations. You can tell that the owner, Jose, really cares about his gym and its patrons.
The changes are consistent and I really appreciate the continued improvements. Rome wasn't built in a day! I haven't used any trainers nor do I attend the classes, but I have met some of the instructors and trainers and they all seem super nice and friendly. The entire establishment is pretty welcoming and for someone who was intimidated at first, it is really helpful to not feel like you're constantly being judged.
At the entrance, you will find individual disinfectant bottles with towels so that everyone can wipe down their equipment before and after.
I haven't had any issues with that... and regardless I wipe my stuff down prior to using anyway.
The women's locker room is nice and has showers and a sauna as well as a comfy chair if you need a minute.

Overall, this is a "no frills" type of gym. You have everything you need to get a good workout in. Free weights, machines, spin room, cardio machines, mats, etc. they even have extras like bands and jump ropes that you can borrow.
I would definitely recommend this gym to anyone in the area. Can't wait to see the continued growth of this gym!
