My two daughters swim at the Columbia location and have made so much progress in the water! My youngest is 3 and is swimming very well on her own. My 4 year old can tread water for 10 seconds and swim across the entire pool length ! Coach Christian and Coach Josh are excellent teachers among other great staff members. The facility is well kept and extremely practical with plenty of changing rooms, large restrooms with change tables for infants several hair dryers shampoo and showers as well for members to use. My favorite part about this swim school is parents can observe in air conditioning from a glass partition that separates the pool from the rest of the facility with plenty of chairs and refreshments.

This is the best swim school in Columbia. My children have excelled in swimming since joining in the summer and have enjoyed their classes and instructors. The staff is so nice and helpful, the General Manager, Kourtney, personally helped us sign up when we had issues. Thank you Goldfish for the encouragement and confidence you’ve given my children and I.

Coach Christian is kind, friendly, and always enthusiastic. He taught my daughter during her early swimming lessons, and we were very impressed with his patience and dedication. Even though she has now moved up to a different class with another instructor, Christian still shows genuine care and checks in on her progress, which means a lot to us.

In addition to Christian, all the instructors at GoFish Swim are also incredibly supportive and professional. They create a safe, fun, and encouraging environment for the kids. We truly appreciate the positive experience our daughter has had here.

Thank you to Christian and the GoldFish Swim team for your continued care and commitment!

Very Disappointed. My Daughter had a trial class today she is 3 years old. First time trying a swimming class. When it was time to start class my daughter was very scared and afraid. All the workers just stared at her cry no one spoke to her or tried to make her feel comfortable. One of the lady’s that was on the side had an annoyed look at her face the whole time . My daughters grandmother had to stay with her so she could feel comfortable to sit down then got asked to leave when no one was doing their job in making my daughter feel comfortable other than her grandmother. If they don’t have patience for smaller kids then they shouldn’t work at a place with kids. Again very disappointing because I have two older kids who were at goldfish swim school at another location and I’ve never had a bad experience like that.

This is probably the best swim school that I have ever been to. The whole team is kind, caring and patient. What completely topped off my experience, the reason that I chose to write this review, is that I signed my son up for another jumpstart clinic and got my time confused with the previous week. While we were fine with waiting since the mistake was mine, Coach Nate told me not to worry about it and got into the pool with my son. I really appreciate how accommodating he was when they didn't have to do anything since the mistake was on my end. I will keep coming back to Gold Fish with all of my kids and recommend it to others!

Garbage swim school for preschoolers. My daughter was in lessons for about a year and has not advanced at all during her time there. The manager pointed out that my son advanced….. yes, because he already knew how to swim. My daughter, who went at the same frequency, had the same intellect and physical abilities, did not advance at all!
However, my daughter was able to advance more in one week through the Glenelg Country School swim lessons than she did in ten months at Goldfish?! Ironically, Glenelg country school also taught my son how to swim.

Goldfish is a colossal waste of money if your child is 3-4 years old with no prior swim experiences.

A very nice school for kids to learn swimming The Olympics thing is they should allow only 2 kids per lane then it should be better as time is limited and if you add more kids in one lane students get less time .

Wow just wow I’m not begging you to give me something I’m not supposed to get. What just happened is on your system or your staff who is not so professional. I’m very disappointed how you guys are handling problems and think you are making an exception for me. This is ridiculous and I normally don’t write a review but there are parents who should know how you guys are handling problems before they enroll their children.

So my daughter and I was running behind and ended up arriving 15 min into the class. Keep in mind the classes are 30 mins. Once we got here I realized it was a bit of a waste of a trip and should have rescheduled.

I was going to end up in the dog house for sure

So I informed the front desk of my situation and they were very understanding and was able to put us in the other class!
Great customer service! The staff is very helpful and kind!

Above all my daughter has gained so much confidence in this program and has grown so much as a swimmer. This summer is going to be even better now that she’s able to really have some fun in the water thanks to Gold Fish!!

Again thank you for the empathy and accommodate!!

My children had a terrible reaction to the pool as whatever chemicals was in the pool caused my children's skin to be itchy and sore. I noticed it a couple of times after swimming and then I noticed that the Saturday they missed a lesson, their skin would somehow get better so therefore the problem was the pool. I tried to manage and spent so much money on anti- itch and eczema creams. I started the swimming program in October 2024 and by December 2024 I decided I couldn't keep putting the children through a swimming pool that was causing so much damage to their skin and health.

Once I sent an email on December 14 stating that my children were absent because of skin irritation, the gold swim team quickly cancelled my children from the program and proceeded to charge me for the next month of January.

I've asked that they refund me for the January class as my children could not attend any class in January due to health issues.

They have refused and insist on not issuing me a refund because their policy of 30 days cancellation. I think it's inhumane when a situation one couldn't foresee such as a child's health being negatively impacted by their contact with the goldfish swim water.

They lack empathy and I went through a lot with 2 toddlers enrolled and suffered skin irritation and imagine toddlers crying through the night because of how sore their skin was.

This is a terrible business and I regret ever bringing my children to this swim school

Today I watched 2 instructors work with my 4 year old to help build her skills. They were patient, fun and caring in trying to get her to fine tune some skills. Now my daughter is a toughie lol she is in it for fun and is taking her a minute to follow through but I felt blessed that the instructors are dedicated because it’s time for her to graduate lanes lol. I would give them 100 stars if I could.

For some reason they randomly gave less time to my son at times given time allocation. I am not sure why one kid is more important or their money is worth more. This is absolutely ridiculous! There were two kids in session including my son but gave 20% of the time to my son. Such a waste!!

Very nice facility. Great changing rooms + hair dryers and mirrors for after class. Staff is very friendly. They offer tokens to schedule a make up class, if you can't make your regularly scheduled class. Easy to communicate with facility. My daughter really enjoys her swim class and is making good progress. The waiting area for families is large and there is a small table for coloring & other small toys on the wall for younger siblings to keep entertained.

When they started here they were terrified of water being anywhere near there face. The staff work with the kids at the pace that they are most comfortable. My children love it here!!!!! They were swimming within 1 month of being here. I wouldn’t recommend any other place!!!! The staff is very friendly and the facility is very clean and kid friendly. There is a nice waiting area where u can sit and watch your children through a glass window. Please come check goldfish Owings Mills out!!!!!!!

Goldfish is a great swim school. This place works like clockwork. The staff has always been wonderful. I have 5 children and I have been going here for a long time. The vibe and the staff has always been great.

Classes are 30 minutes. You might think that's not enough time, but they have an exact set of skills for the kids to learn. I absolutely see an improvement with my kids swimming. We do summer swim team and there is a big difference between the kids that do swim during the winter and the ones that don't.

Swim is especially good if you have a large family, like mine. Overall I am very happy with my experience here and I definitely would recommend them to others.

Our family has been at Goldfish in Columbia MD since June 2018! My boys love their weekly swim lessons. All of the teachers / instructors have been amazing over the years. My middle child who has always been timid graduated Glider 1 today and I’m so thankful for the patience and care than has been taken by the teachers / instructors over the years to help him achieve! We had a previous bad experience at a different swim school with my oldest who is now enjoying Swim Force and I’m so thankful that we found Goldfish! The facility is clean and up to date. They use a recurring electronic monthly billing system which is very convenient. And we love that the lessons just keep going until they graduate to the next level, there is none of this β€œ6 week session then you have to reserve your spot again” like we have experienced elsewhere.
They also have a lot of time options 7days per week. And it’s a little thing but my kids always look forward to their little β€˜prize’ of a sticker or temporary tattoo or new pencil each week . And makeups are super easy and convenient to schedule if you have to miss a lesson.
Thank you Goldfish, Columbia!!!

Too short class/sessions seems to designed for a kid to take at least 6 months to learn basic swimming. 25 mins per week session is shared between 4 students that means I am paying $6.5 per minute for my kid for the time he gets from instructor. On top of that there are closings/holidays where I am still paying free money. Within 3 months, my kid was moved to three different teachers due to staffing issues. Its utterly nonsense when school justify the 25 mins shared session citing physical and behavioral reasons.

I'm very frustrated with this facility. It's been incredibly challenging to schedule makeup lessons due to the high demand and limited availability. My son has been attending this school for a year at the junior 1 level. Despite our efforts to request makeup lessons, there is very limited time available. Considering that he's been in the same level for a year, we requested to make up at junior 2 level. We were informed that supervisory approval is required. Unfortunately, the supervisor is never available.

Despite multiple attempts to resolve this issue through calls, I have not received any response or callbacks. At this point, I am considering terminating our contract. This is disappointing because it means many of the makeup lessons we've paid for will go to waste.

I strongly advise against choosing this place. They raised their price to $150 a month and not ensuring the quality. Teachers frequently change, and children can end up stuck at the same level indefinitely. Additionally, any missed lessons due to illness result in a complete loss, as there is no way to reschedule due to the limited slot.

Consider this a warning.

Just moved to the area from another state where my daughter was getting ready to join a swim team and came here for a swim level assessment to get my child placed in the right class. Horrible, horrible, did I say Horrible! swim assessment process. The assessment session was 1 instructor to 4 kids all at very different skill levels and all assessed in a span of less than 20 minutes, if even that. With that many kids at different skill levels and with such little time, I fail to see how the instructor is able to fairly assess each student's skill level. My child was not given a chance to showcase her skills because they assume each child has no experience in water. They do not take into account the pre-assessment notes we provided them. We tried to tell them our child's skill level to help them with their assessment but they totally ignored us. My daughter can comfortably swim all 4 main swim strokes but she was not given a chance to show her skills in ANY of the swim strokes and partly because the swimming lane was way too short for her skill level. We also noticed way too many kids per instructor. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this place unless your child needs very basic skills to get comfortable in water.

The staff at the Columbia location are all incredibly welcoming and go above and beyond to make your kids feel welcomed. My interaction started with Candice at the front counter, it was our first day and I booked my kids into a class they shouldn’t have been (they’re both young and new to swimming). Candice quickly came up with multiple solutions. My youngest was having a really hard time going off by himself in to the pool area and one of the off shift lifeguards came over to help comfort him and get him to his lane. I believe her name was Sonel. Her, Candice and the rest of the staff we interacted with contributed to making my kids first days a worth while experience. Horrible interaction involving another parent going into a fitting room and taking my belongings (phone & wallet) and throwing my daughters swim suit on the floor. The building is clearly too small for the amount of students & parents. Not enough dressing rooms & bathrooms so when class is over there are about 10 different families standing around waiting for a room. Not to mention the old white men that β€œguard” dressing rooms when their child isn’t even out of class, but management has done nothing about it. Also had to advocate for my four year old’s class sessions; as the class was more of a β€œplay time” situation rather than the learning of swimming fundamentals.

The staff here are very nice, facility are also clean.
Our daughter was taking weekly lesson here for almost 8 - 9 months. Average is about 7-8 minutes lesson per week, so each month she probably got like 28-30 minutes total, which make the lessons equals about $280ish an hour. After 8-9 months, my 4 yo still could not flow, thread water, or swim.

Response from the owner47 minutes ago
Hello David, At Goldfish, safety is always our #1 priority, and we are committed to going Above & Beyond with our safety protocols - which include socially distant seating, limited capacities and increased sanitization - to keep our …More

With all due respect this is not true. I was there yesterday, all lanes were full, with students sitting shoulder to shoulder. Please explain how that's "socially distant seating" and "limited capacities". My wife and I were lead to believe that these protocols were being followed, but this is clearly not the case. Again, when brought my concerns to Rick, his response was "If we don't have enough students, we can't stay open". Not sure I agree with that, but whatever. My point is that you were not transparent about class sizes and mislead us regarding safety protocols. Had you done the right thing and were honest about things really were, we could have avoided this whole ugly review. But instead, you took our money under the false pretenses and potentially exposed my child. Perhaps you feel is that you are following appropriate protocols. Perhaps the guidelines that have been set are just not being followed by the staff. Whatever the issue is, I know what I witnessed, which was kids not able to social distance due to a packed class. You have the right to run your business as you see fit, but your lack of transparency and response to my concerns gives the appearance of being purposely deceitful. As you probably guessed, I'm pretty upset, but I'm also reasonable. You have my contact information. If you reach out to me and make a reasonable attempt to resolve this, I will update this review with positive feedback. Your move

Goldfish is not taking the Delta variant seriously. kids are 4 deep in a lane, shoulder to shoulder, no masks, and of course no vaccine. Shared my concerns with Rick behind the counter, his response, β€œIf we don’t have large enough class size, we won’t be able to stay open anyway”. Very disappointed Goldfish

My son is enjoying learning to swim. I do wish that the length of the class was longer than 30 minutes

Just 30 minutes lesson is a very short time. With 4 kids in a class a kid hardly gets just 7 minutes of lesson. Though kid is picking up swimming lessons nicely at this speed (7 minutes per week) it will take very long for a kid to learn the swimming.

Also, monthly fees post-covid has been raised to $140. So it is like we are paying $140 just for (7*4) 28 minutes of lesson, which is $5/minute. So when I think of price that I am paying for kids swimming lessons I conclude that it is insanely expensive. Either they have to increase per week lesson time to 45-60 minutes or limit the number kids per class to 3.

I would recommend this school to any parents that want their kids to learn how to swim! staff and teachers are all nice and kid friendly, The pool is clean and at a good temperature. plus, my child learned quite a lot in the span of 30 minutes! Overall, a very good school for kids.

It is a great school and the staff is friendly and attentive. My kid loves getting into the water and having fun. I love the intuitive curriculum that inherently teaches water safety. Only struggle is adjusting your time slot because they are very popular and busy.

I have a 3 year old daughter enrolled at the school, her instructor Riana is amazing!!! She interacts, engages, and works at my 3 year olds pace. Riana’s skillset as an instructor keeps me coming back. Goldfish Swim has amazing instructors. I would recommend all families participate in the goldfish swim club in Columbia,MD.

No doubt school is great! The class needs extend more time rather then just 30 minutes, plus instead of 4 students in one class they need to have no more then 3 students because we only have 30 minutes for class and having 4 students in class isn’t giving each students enough time. So basically each student is getting 7 minutes, i have spoke to the staff and they said they cant do much about it which is ridiculous to me.

Great place for little swimmers to get used to the water and learn the basics of swimming - both my son and nephew love going here and have moved up the levels at a decent rate

Great instructors, very kind and patient with the kids. The kids love it. Very clean facilities, feels very safe. Staff and customers follow all necessary precautions. Only thing is it’s a bit pricey. The Y is cheaper and probably just as good. Other than that, highly recommend.

I love how patient the instructors are, how well organized the entire process of coming in, getting to lesson, getting out of the pool, showers etc. I'm impressed with Goldfish's COVID safety protocol and how they've adapted to allow swim lessons to continue. I won't deny that Goldfish is expensive, especially with multiple kids in lessons, but all the positives outweigh the negative of cost.

We haven't returned to a lot yet with the pandemic, but we did start back with swim lessons. My son look forward to his lessons every week! The classes are small, they have taken ALL the precautions and we feel so safe coming each week!

It is amazing to watch my son progress each week. The instructors are patient and kind.

I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to do swim lessons. It is so much fun for them, and a safe environment.

A GREAT place for your kids to learn to swim!!
The team of instructors and pool side staff like Portia and Madison are incredible. We were so lucky to have Corey push our little one to his potential!

We were very hesitant to do swim school at all during this time. Goldfish was the obvious choice when we decided to go forward. Their website has great video explanations regarding COVID mitigation measures, and signing up was a breeze.

Class size is limited to three swimmers per instructor, and they continuously evaluate and assess skills proficiency. We could not be happier with our family’s experience with Goldfish Swim School of Columbia.

Little man gives it a thumbs up!!πŸ‘πŸ» πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»
