Long time member of Gold's Dundalk. I'm old enough to remember the indoor basketball court. This gym has so much potential with the square footage. But what it lacks is an owner with the proper vision to have a successful, top notch gym. One thing you can't say is that the owner is afraid to spend money. He just spends it on things that are a complete waste and don't really improve actually working out. The amount of money he has spent and continues to spend on "renovations" is unreal. Currently there are at least 3 major renovations or remodeling projects going on. Nobody is really quite sure what the end goal is. I have asked numerous employees of the end goal and they all kind of look at you and shake their head. I have spoken to the long time, and very over worked equipment repair guy and his answer was, "the owner has a vision, but nobody really knows what that vision is". The owner clearly has money. But instead of using it to buy new equipment to replace some of the stuff that is easily 20yrs old, he has elected to put two additional roll-up doors in. The ones that are already there get opened about 5 times a year if that. Instead of spreading the equipment out it is all bunched up. The turf area that he spent all that money on years ago has been reduced to a place to pile up a bunch of equipment on. The one corner near the yellow leg press is a death trap with all of the various things just tossed in one area. There is maybe room now for two people at the most to do any sort of actual turf training on, and that is assuming there isn't some sort of personal training blocking it off. There is no flow at all to the gym. Machines just crammed in and tossed wherever. From what I am told, the owner dictates how the gym is set up. Not that the managers would probably know how to do better, but if allowed Matt would probably set the gym up to mirror some of the more successful gyms in the area. The employees try to keep up with straightening up the gym, but its hard for them to keep track with how everything is just tossed wherever. I don't really expect anything to change . The owner usually replies thanking for your concerns and please contact the general manager. Probably just AI reply. A good owner would be in touch with his paying members. He would be providing updates on social media as to what exactly is going on with all of the renovations and what the end goal is. He would be getting feedback as to what the members actually wants instead of what he thinks we want. I can tell you from being there and actually talking to people, WE WANT NEW MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT. We don't want to see you rolling in some old ancient piece of used equipment. We don't care about roll-up doors or pictures all over the walls. That is what you want. We know you have the money. The renovations being done aren't cheap. It's just being spent on all the wrong things. Go take a tour of the other gym over on Pulaski Hwy and see how its set up. See how its managed.

Gym could be great but lately it's been a bit of a mess. Going on 4 months of renovations with no end in sight. Free weights area has been scattered in various separate parts of the gym. Bars/weights always go missing.

Such a large facility even at peak times it's never what I would call overcrowded.
It seems to me that they are always trying to keep things updated and new. There is some older equipment in need of repair and replacement, but I believe they're conscious of this issue and are working on it.
Front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. They're always very pleasant and greet you when you check in.
You can't beat the price at $9.99 per month... the members are a good group...you'll see all shapes and sizes and ability levels.
If you are a big lifter, you'll find the weights here to suit your needs for sure, and if you're a beginner you'll feel comfortable and confident in the environment here along with entering in between.

This gym is horrible, I cancelled my membership because a majority of the machines are broke and the staff is rude except for the guy with the piercing in his nose. I went in respectfully to the gym to cancel, informing the rude lady Tallesha Sanders that I’m switching gyms and the machines are always broke. She says smart remarks instead of owning the fact they don’t fix their machines. After she started being rude I informed her the staff never speaks and is always on their phones. She then started asking me random questions like did I own a business, what does that have to do with anything? I’ve managed at a big box store (Lowe’s) and I know customer service. I’ve been going to this gym for 11 years, everything about this specific location has gone down hill. They’re cheaper than other gyms but the quality of this specific location is so bad it just isn’t worth it. I’d rather go to planet fitness than to ever go back here. I was so mad after she started trying to embarrass me publicly I had to calm down and come back to get her information. DO NOT GO HERE!!!

I joined Gold’s in Dundalk January of this year, I came in looking for guidance and was met with Shannon Starkloff, a trainer with Do Work! I had never stepped foot into a gym before and as a 36 year old woman with recent weight gain I felt vulnerable, nervous, and intimidated walking in.
Working with Shannon has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for my health and fitness journey. From day one, she brought incredible energy, positivity, and genuine care to every session. She took the time to understand my goals, limitations, and lifestyle, and created a personalized plan that was both challenging and realistic.
What sets her apart is not just her deep knowledge of fitness, but her ability to motivate and empower. She holds you accountable in the kindest, most encouraging way—and somehow makes even the toughest workouts enjoyable. I’ve become stronger, more confident, and more consistent than I ever thought possible, and a huge part of that is thanks to her support. My body composition has drastically changed, and my confidence in the gym is unrecognizable from just 6 months ago.
She’s more than a trainer—she’s a coach, a cheerleader, and someone who truly cares about your progress. I can’t recommend her and the entire Do Work team enough!

I want to love this gym, I really do. But there are so many things that need to be fixed. Literally. Starting with the stair climbers. Out of the 6 that they have, 2 were broken and the one I was using felt like it was about to break. I don't think they can go a whole week without one or more breaking. Walk around the gym and there are numerous machines collecting dust with out of order signs on them. The infamous repair guy was there but honestly he can't keep up. He is seen maybe once a week and walks in to so many things that need to be fixed. I was using a machine and I wanted to wipe it down afterwards. I look around and can't find any paper towels or cleaning bottles. It seems like they have all disappeared of late. Later on I did see that they installed a new paper towel holder and bottle holder on the wall but then proceeded to put a weight tree directly in front of it so you literally break your neck trying to get to it. Makes a lot of sense right? I do like the lady's gym. It has ample equipment to get a full workout in. But I also like to use the main gym. Unfortunately it is a mess at times. Things are just thrown around everywhere with no rhyme or reason. I love the two back rooms to get away from the crowds but the equipment is never the same two weeks in a row. People move stuff around and don't return it. You would think management would have some sort of inventory list of what should be in each area and make sure it stays there to the best of their knowledge. Obviously you cant police a gym 24-7 but it seems like nobody at all cares about what goes on at this gym. I know management has taken a beating in other reviews but as a somewhat seasoned gym goer, I have to agree that the overall management of this gym is deplorable at best. The two managers spend most of their time in the office or talking and laughing at the front desk with other employees. The staff casually strolls around the gym but really doesn't do anything. Occasionally one of the younger staff members is tasked with returning equipment where it should be. But if management actually had control of their own gym then maybe people might actually respect it. I know the owners are aware of the complaints about management. The gym has been stagnant or in decline for the past 5-8yrs in my opinion. Something needs to change . It's Gold's Gym!!!!! This particular gym doesn't deserve to carry the name of one of the pioneers in the fitness industry the way it is currently being run. Do better owners and management. Some of your members have been loyal to a T and have stuck around while others have taken all they could and left for other gyms. Are you happy just signing up new members or do you actually want your members to be happy? It seems as though as long as people keep signing up you could care less how your dedicated members actually feel.

Yes, not only has the sauna stopped working, but also the restroom. It has been two weeks; this happens consistently. I’m frustrated because I like the gym; NOT the management. Get your stuff fixed.

The sauna has now been out of service for two full weeks, and unfortunately, this isn’t the first time this happens. The only message posted? “Sorry. There’s another sauna outside.”
That doesn’t help members who count on using the sauna with the convenience of a proper shower afterward. It’s inconvenient, it’s frustrating, and at this point, it feels like this gym simply isn’t reliable.
Things break — but this is a business, and just saying “sorry” doesn’t cut it.

This gym has the potential to be one of the best gyms in the area, however management and ownership fails to capitalize . The biggest thing that keeps Gold's Gym Dundalk from it's full potential is the lack of proper management. The two managers focus mainly on signing up new members and not properly maintaining the gym. If a gym wants to be successful it needs management that actually understands fitness and actively uses the gym themselves. The two managers here rarely if ever leave the front desk area and police the gym. The other employees, while friendly, just hang around the front desk and rarely walk around the gym. As a result, there is absolutely zero fear by the members of what will happen when they just leave the dumbells, barbells, and benches wherever they happened to move them. The free weight area looks like a bomb went off after busy times.
As far as cleanliness goes, it is average at best. There is usually at least one sometimes two people from the cleaning staff there all day. They mostly just push a cart around emptying trash cans. The bathrooms are a bit cleaner now than in the past. For some reason management/cleaning staff decided to drastically reduce the amount of paper towels and spray bottles that are used to wipe down equipment. As a result most people don't bother wiping benches and machines off because they don't feel like walking across the busy gym to get the products. Management needs to quickly come up with a plan to mount and make available more cleaning products. For a gym of this size and the amount of people using it it is pure negligence to not have more supplies available for the members to wipe down equipment.
As far as the equipment goes, the gym has a good variety however many machines are often broken because the owner has opted to buy used equipment which is probably older than some of the members. Then when it breaks the time to get replacement parts places the machine out of service for weeks and sometimes months. There is only one repair man who also handles several other gyms. You may only see him one time a week if that. There is absolutely no preventative maintenance done. Machines are not checked until they are broken. I do love that there are so many different areas to workout, however there is not enough equipment to go around. People remove items from one area and take them to another area. What was in one area one day is often gone the next. It is hard to pyramid when sets of dumbells are missing from where they are supposed to be.
Instead of buying a 15yr old leg press that nobody uses, the money could go towards another set or two of preloaded barbels since they are always missing or left laying around the gym.
I had high hopes when Matt(DoWork) took over training for the whole gym instead of just his personal gym upstairs. I had hoped he would of had more of an influence on management to improve the entire gym and not just the area that only his clients use. However that didn't happen. Nothing has improved in the general gym area. I guess the owners and management are content being the Walmart of local gyms. Until someone with an actual interest in working out and is serious about fitness takes over running the gym nothing will change. You go to the current managers with issues and they just shrug their shoulders. They might be nice people but neither one of them really has a clue of what a 5 star gym is really like. For the money I guess the gym is adequate at best. But it is missing out on being one of the best with the stagnant management and misguided ownership.

The treatment is not good and I felt a lot of racism from some people. For two years I have been paying the nal for using me 16 times in two years. And when I wanted to stop the subscription. Haha they told me it is not possible and I must meet with the person in charge. When I return I searched for the person in charge. Haha the same person tells me he will return after two hours and they got me into trouble. Try to adopt good treatment for the sake of all people. 0000000x100000000 time

Incredibly unprofessional and rude employees not only were they being dismissive over the phone, you can’t easily cancel your membership if you move states…you would have to MAIL out a paper that wouldn’t even get there in time before your card is charged. Clean gym and workout area. professional and kind staff. The childcare staff were great with kids. Everyone working out were taking turns on equipment and seemed overall a friendly atmosphere. Noone seemed judgmental or disrespectful. Lots of machines for running, and bikes as well as lots of weight lifting machines. Seemed limited in the stairclimbing machines. Dumbell area was kind of cramped. I mentioned to one gym member this was my first time and he seemed eager to show me around. Definitely felt like a Gold's gym. Didn't get to see the upstairs area or any of the amenities in the membership as I ran out of time and had to leave. Will be returning. Was moderately busy I was there from 4pm to 6pm but still open areas.

This gym is convenient for having 24 hr access but they seem to focus more on the “do work” spaces more than the other parts of the gym. The cardio equipment and much of the other equipment is dated. But no worries they have Pilates equipment. Please update the treadmills. It also noticed that the ring area in the back is lacking proper maintenance. The ring ropes haven’t been maintained and are loose. And the boxing bags aren’t in the best condition. Please focus on the other parts of the gym and not just the “ do work” portion.

From massage chairs to a sauna to different workout classes. One thing that can be a little inconvenient is the equipment not working. Golds Gym is a FRAUD! My credit card expired, but I was using the gym on base (I’m military) and they kept charging me. When I disputed the $200 balance they reported it to collections. Been in and around the gym seen for over 25 years. I must say I've never been to a gym before that continually strives for excellence in every aspect. When I was powerlifting the owner himself approached me and asked what He could add to make the gym better? I provided a few suggestions and within a couple of weeks it was done. This is a rare find! This is a fantastic gym that provides everything for the every day individual just trying to live a healthier lifestyle, to everything needed for the seasoned bodybuilder/ powerlifter etc. Do yourself a favor and check it out! One more point! The memberships are very reasonable for any budget and truly is an investment that nobody can afford to miss!

I thought that was the end of it then I see they tried charging my account for the membership and so I declined it. Now I’m getting 5 to 8 phone calls a week asking about my billing and trying to get me to pay them when I cancelled my membership within 24 hours of having it. But I moved 1 hour away so, I cancelled my membership(no contract) in October of 2023 because of the move. Except, they continued to charge my card. I like this Gold’s Gym in Dundalk. I love the variety of machines and weights.
They lose 2 stars for me because of the ladies gym area and the bathroom. The ladies gym area is dark and the equipment needs a desperate upgrade. Most of the time they don’t have matching weights and the machines in there seem older than some of the older machines in the main gym area. I went in there once and never went back again. I was told when I first applied for the membership that they would be getting mirrors in there soon but they better equipment as well.
The bathrooms are nasty. Hair everywhere, toilet paper everywhere…I don’t even want to know what the showers look like, but those bathrooms aren’t cleaned on a regular basis at all. I feel like they almost need a bathroom attendant or something.

The equipment is really neat, area is clean and organized. The outdoor equipment and power lifting areas seem very interesting. Props for the gym for also having a ladies only area. Staff are friendly and there seems to be disenfectant wipes everywhere which is a great sign. I only have an issue with the sauna feeling like a warm breath instead of actual sweating level heat, I would join if their bathrooms didn't smell weird and if they had a pool.

Updated 2023. Sauna could use some more heat but this place has continued to improve over the years. If you cant find machines to do what you need to then there is something wrong. Only thing ill say is this place continues to get more and more popular it might be time for golds to establish another building in another are at some point to combat this. Also there is a row machines still on pallets not sure exactly why takes week to set those machines up for use.

everyone at Golds in Dundalk are super friendly and helpful. NEVER have i had one of the kids working there be inattentive or unprofessional. I appreciate seeing the young teens working so hard and seeming like they love their job. Kudos to your location for that.

Steer clear of this place. There has to be someone to report them them to. I’ve sent multiple emails asking to cancel my membership with no luck. Have been in there several times as well to cancel. Always an excuse there’s no manager in, you can’t come on Saturday to cancel, you can’t come after 5 and cancel. It’s fraud what they are doing. I will never have anything to do with them again in my life. Steer clear of this fraudulent place.

When you cancel there's a 30 day notice so you still get charged for next months payment with usable membership for said month
There is a $50 annual fee even if you're paying month to month
Go to spunk fitness if you live in essex or east of Dundalk
Total rip off

I mainly gym for classes and there’s a wide variety offered. Especially enjoying Zumba with Brian and Barre with Ewa. Very large facility with all the reg equipment but I like the turf and little outside workout area especially. Came over here from Planet Fitness and enjoying it infinitely more.

Did not like it at all. One of the trainers name Ty was trying to rush me to workout. I explained to him how i just had back surgery so i cant lay flat on the floor and i cant bend and twist how he wanted me to because my muscles will lock up and cause a lot of pain and he tells me im not paralyzed or crippled so I can do it. I dont feel like he cared about my well being enough to want to stay. Everyone seems too cocky and judgmental there. Not for me

Insanely hot inside, and they open the door as if the 90degree breeze will help. I wish they’d crank up the air a little! It shouldn’t be hotter inside than outside.

Gym is great, but unfortunately alot of members think it's okay to throw their trash on the floor and just leave their weights, I wish the owners would revoke their memberships. I understand its a public gym, but the members make it seem like a preschool.

Staff are very nice, zero complaints there but the men’s room is so disgusting you’d think you’re at a crowded concert, you can never find a matching set of dumbbells (most are in horrible condition too), and it’s insanely hot inside. Yes, the bathroom is so bad the 1 star is warranted.

I really wanted to love this gym! But my experience was horrible,”the trainer Tyrone” I didn’t sign up or ask for PRESSURED ME to sign up for his services after I refused 3X times! I received phone calls then he came over to the treadmill trying to persuade me to get a trainer ONCE AGAIN!🗣NO MEANS NO! I felt uncomfortable even walking back into this place I closed my bank account because the gym wouldn’t allow me to cancel my membership or even reach a manager
I’ll never go back✌🏾

I like the employees at this location, a lot. I’m not a huge fan of the gym itself, though. it’s always uncomfortably hot in there. It’s a gym, yes, so it does get hot but the way it gets hot in there is as if the heat is turned on. I do really like that there is a “ladies only” section of the gym, that is VERY comforting because the gym is rarely safe for women. I hate how some of their equipment stops, like just stops, after a certain time. You’ll be running on the treadmill and then after 20 minutes, the treadmill stops. It doesn’t slow down, it just stops abruptly. THATS VERY DANGEROUS. I almost twisted my ankle once. Altogether, the staff is the reason for the 3 stars. The staff is great.

The sauna is always broken and down. It worked good for 3 weeks then broke again. Out of order signs on multiple pieces of equipment for months. The female manager is rude has no sales capabilities. And - I understand covid have put a hurting on businesses but these issues go back years. Sad the ownership doesn't take pride in the place. Their going to lose a lot of membership soon with new place opening.

BE CAREFUL. THIEVES PRESENT. PROBABLY IN PARKING LOT TOO. Good improvements were made in the gym in 2021 with great number of new equip. The best deal in metro area at either $10/mo or $30 w/ group classes. Instructors certified in their sport The men's locker room is obsolete and probably a respiratory hazard.

I understand the restrictions that were put in place for bringing a guest with you because of Covid and to social distance. However, if that was the case then you shouldn't have been accepting new memberships either during that time to limit space as you claim. Also, now that the state has lifted the restrictions and you are not social distancing the equipment anymore why hasn't the guest restriction been lifted? But yet, if a guest pays $5 they can come? That rule is definitely not about covid safety at this point it is GREED! If bringing a guest is apart of my membership than it should be honored or some kinda refund/discount should be given for the time it hasn't been allowed. My son usually comes with me and I had to purchase him his own membership in order for him to come. He is under 16yrs old so he has to be accompanied by me everytime he goes. So now the only difference in him coming with me as usual is another membership $$$!
I use to love this gym but it has really started to go down hill the last couple years. There is a lot of machines always out of order and for long periods of time and it is not as clean as it use to be and this was happening before Covid!

I have the membership that allows me to bring a guest but they do not honor it. I had to pay $5 dollars to bring my brother as a guest even though I pay for the membership that has the privilege of bringing guests. Then the girl at the desk says my membership is the vintage one, which means I cannot bring guests. So someone changed my membership privileges or I was lied to. Never had a problem until covid started. Everyone must have lost their mind and become greedy. Shame on you to the owners. I used to love your gym. Now it sucks.

Who ever was answering phones tonight was the most disrespectful person I’ve ever encountered in customer service. Mind you I work at a restaurant. If I talked to a customer however I wanted I would be fired..I don’t care if your privately owned like the girl said. The female. Not only had a huge attitude with me. Hung up on me and then proceeded to keep hanging up on me when I tried to call back for a manager. Jen was able to answer my questions. If you want a gym go to spunk. It’s cheaper. They don’t charge you for things they shouldn’t and I’ve had nothing but good experiences with they’re staff. They even gave me a free year due to Covid.
And reading the reviews posted it seems that this situation keeps happening on a regular basis how do you continue to let the same thing happened as a business. Professionalism and customer service is key to keeping a customer and it seems to be that you’re losing your customers because nobody there is professional and you guys can’t seem to find a solution to any kind of problem. It seems that there’s always a month-to-month contract until you stop going and then you just charge people over and over and over again till they physically had show up again in person during the pandemic where people are very uncomfortable coming out to places and then you need a visual or a verbal response to them canceling their membership maybe you guys should try a new policy and find different ways of people canceling their membership during this time. Unfortunately I will never use golds Again especially The golds on Merritt Boulevard considering there unprofessional attitudes and their means of going about solving problems. People post reviews for no reason and people especially don’t complain about the same thing repetitively if there’s not an issue going on you guys are dropping the ball and it seems like you guys don’t care about your customers in any kind of manner.

Big gym, good selection... but machines constantly out of order, bars always greasy. Finally got tired of being harassed to cover my nose and mouth while hyperventilating so I told them to terminate my contract. Found another gym that doesn't harass healthy people trying to get a good workout.

On multiple occasions, members have not been following covid protocol and staff did not interfere. Also, the general manager does not respond to emails or calls on separate occasions- not professional in my opinion. The only “positive” would be the classes included in a reasonably priced membership, otherwise, look elsewhere.
