This gym shut down for good on 12/5/2020. All members were transferred to Gold's other Frederick location, which is much less convenient!

Disclaimer: I actually enjoy training here. Decent equipment overall, excellent access to sanitation bottles to wipe down equipment, and most people I have interacted with here are friendly. The matted area is great for working on striking on their heavy bags, or even getting some grappling rounds in. In regards to rules they don't really enforce re-racking weights, or members wiping down equipment after use, but overall that is minor compared to my experience with the facility which has been positive.
However, the absence of management communication is what has led to this poor review. When I first signed up, I specifically asked if the contract I was signing meant I was obligated to finish, or if I had the flexibility to cancel with enough notice (in my experience 30-90 days is pretty standard). I was told by the front desk staff that I could cancel with a 30 day notice and all I would have to do is fill out a cancellation form. Now that I tried to cancel my membership this past month, I was told cancelling was not an option because I signed up for a year-long contract.
For a couple weeks now I have asked to speak to a manager regarding my membership and two different associates took down my information and I never got a call back. Even after leaving a voicemail with management to get this straightened out, I never received a call. I was told that in the meantime I could freeze my account, so I did. I asked if the freeze went into effect immediately and was guaranteed by an associate that it did. The associate who told me this was wrong as I was charged for my membership this month despite it being "frozen." I called again today to get this straightened out and was told by a different associate that the system shows my freeze wouldn't go into effect until the end of this month. I was then told that I would have to pay a $100 fee to break the contract and an extra $30 for a cancellation fee.
Overall, it seems like the employees here are trying their best to do their job well, but the lack of communication from the top down is evident and really disappointing. I understand the need to keep membership retention higher than cancellations and the need to create incentives with cheap memberships for people to join, but getting new memberships in the door shouldn't be done at the cost of transparency and quality of management communication. This lack of leadership has put well intentioned associates in a comprising position and has left me incredibly frustrated.
If you join, I would highly encourage you to ask for a printed copy of your contract, write down names of associates and management you interact with, and have them highlight the cancellation policy for you. Keep all of your records as my interactions suggest you will hear different things depending on who you talk to.

Westridge location has the best gym atmosphere I've ever experienced. It is clean , well kept, and has awesome equipment. Their staff is friendly and willing to help. I am always greeted by the staff with a big smile; they make me feel at home. Best location in the area!

Since May, I have been training with Ryan, and my results are unbelievable! This guy knows how to assist in giving the results I am aiming for. Working with him and signing a membership is one of the best decisions i have made and is on that will continue.

I've been to a couple different ones in the tri-state area and this is probably one of the nicer ones-- even better than the one in buckeystown. The only downside is that this gym does not have an indoor basketball court like the one in buckeystown. Great open space with a lot of machines. Can be crowded in the evenings when everyone is off work. Staff is friendly.

The way the personal training scheme is setup is nothing else but a scam. Good luck trying to cancel it and get your money back. That won't happen unless you bring a certificate from your doctor stating that you are PERMANENTLY DISABLED!! Otherwise say good bye to your money. Of course, they won't tell you this when they are trying to convince you to sign up. The whole place looks like it has not had a renovation on decades! Yuck!! I cannot understand how people can enjoy working out in this place.

I usually do not write reviews but this is an exception. I called Golds Gym today in regards of account problems and the receptionist, or the person that answered the phone, Scott was very attentive and helpful. He made my experience here easy and I believe people who work hard deserve to be recognized. Thank you Scott!

If I could give this gym no stars I would. I used to attend this golds gym for many years up until they decided to change management. The new manager is awful and implemented new rules which are ridiculous. I used to be able to bring in a guest for free or pay five dollars for the day. Now if I want to go in as a guest with my friends they want to charge me 15 dollars for a day pass, are you kidding me? thats insane I donβt know how people are going to be able to visit your facility because thereβs no way Iβd pay 15 dollars for my two hour workout. From a market standpoint this is very stupid. To say the least I will never be going back to this gym Iβll take my business elsewhere.

I love Golds Gym. The membership allows you to go to any corporate location. The one here is awesome. The staff are so friendly and helpful.

I'm comparing this gym to my primary corporate gym I go to near North Bethesda. First the carpet in the gym must go, you can't properly clean a carpet and makes the gym look 80s and 90s ish. Second the equipment in the weight section needs to be updated and I mean everything. The 45s are not consisted which throws off the weight a bit, pick one brand and stay with it. The leg sled machine is lower stacking compare to other gyms I usually put on 4 to 6 plates more than it can hold. I also noticed that the smith machine bars max load is lower for I felt a slight bend with a 45 and 35 on each side for shoulders. Maybe I didn't see it but I couldn't find any hand cleaner and there was a slight oder in the gym, which might have been from the carpet, Again gyms don't need carpets!!!
Since this is a corporate gym, head quarters needs to do a major overhaul. They should model it after the one near North Bethesda in Rockville. The only reason i'm giving it two stars is because the staff was friendly especially that young man who worked at the front desk .

The people that work there are friendly and helpful, but the weight area is very unorganized. At least 3 times now I've had weights fall off of the rack and almost crush my feet because of the lack of organization. Overall a good gym, minus the free weight area.

I love this gym. The staff are always super nice, the facilities are clean, and I don't ever have to wait for a machine (though I don't tend to go during the busy times). I can get in, get a great workout in, and I don't get in trouble for jumping rope, deadlifting, or carrying around a water jug (cough.. planet fitness..cough). I don't ever take classes, but I hear they have some good ones!

Unfair billing practices. Buyer beware they will stick it to you if you have to move. They refuse to give full amount due. See other reviews seems like their MO. The staff is great but corporate are snakes in the grass. Stay away

They are your run of the mill gym. Nothing to special, but the place is clean and has a good amount of equipment. They however, lack a pool, steam room, or sauna.

First of all I felt pressured to join this gym which should have been an indication that joining was a bad idea. Then I took the complementary fitness assessment with a trainer, but once I declined adding (at a ridiculous cost) trainer services to my membership it was like pulling teeth to ever get any staff to talk to me when I was there. I really liked the classes and the gym facility itself, but the people were just not engaging. THEN. The icing on the cake. I was made aware when I signed up that I wouldn't be able to cancel my membership unless I moved, so I let it go past the year timeline by a few months (even though I wasn't even able to get to the gym for the last three months of my membership), went to the gym in person (which I had to do twice because the first time there "wasn't anyone there who could help me") signed the paperwork to cancel my membership and was told there was nothing else I needed to do. Then two or three weeks later there was yet another monthly membership charge on my bank statement, so I called the gym and they gave me a number to call and said they couldn't help me. I called the second number and was told that my paperwork hadn't been turned in before the rate would be applied to my account (which was the gym's fault because I went in the DAY AFTER I had been charged the previous month to cancel) and that I could be refunded a whopping $5 for the rest of the month since the other $$$ was prorated for the month. Horrible customer service. Even planet fitness has better staff.
