I've been using this Golds Gym for almost 2 years now. It's a nice little gym and a great place to go to get a quick workout or a longer workout. They have a decent selection of free weights and machines. The place is kept clean and the other patrons there are friendly.

The class instructors are great- encouraging, friendly, and knowledgable. The atmosphere is very accepting (the reception area and the classes). I've never had any trouble inviting a guest for free to try out the classes. Their equipment is well used because the gym has been established here for a long time, but it's all very usable and they do update when they feel it is necessary.

Has to be the worst gym in Maryland. Broken machines, dated as if that wasnt enough. They will also try to bring forth legal action for no contract membership agreements. they are notorious for trying to blood bond you to the gym after youve realized its hot garbage. Staff were cool, besides Carl, the literal manager

I came to Gold's Gym for the free one day pass trial offer with some friends. The computer crashed during the sign in process, some received the free pass and others including myself were told we had to pay $20 in order to use the gym. We initially paid and then decided it would be better to go elsewhere since we couldn't get the advertised free pass. I was promised a refund and received a receipt # for the submission. That was two weeks ago and I still haven't received my refund after many calls. The manager is always unavailable. Do not trust this franchise - they completely changed their story after the fact, over the phone, stating that day passes are non refundable even if we didn't use it at all. I asked for written documentation and advertisement of this policy and they provided NOTHING. It's less about the $20 now and more about the dishonesty to me and two other friends.

I made the mistake of submitting my email address a few months ago for a guest pass to try out this gym. I opted not to sign up for membership based on other reviews. But now the spam! OMG the spam! Gold's Gym fills the inbox with spam emails. No less than half a dozen emails a day. Is Gold's Gym that desperate for memberships?

Went to this gym for 4 years. I used to love it, has great people in the afternoons, very friendly focused atmosphere. But management was weird. I complained some guy was following me around during my work outs and management did nothing. The sauna never worked for more than a month at a time. That said it’s a good size with good machines, just wasn’t worth it to me after a while.

I really enjoy this gym. The staff are nice (including Karl, not sure why he gets such a bad wrap), there are many options for group classes and the instructors are great and the attendees aren’t cliquy like other gyms I’ve been to. I only take group classes so cannot speak about equipment. It isn’t the fanciest gym but it gets the job done. Those speaking about billing issues obviously don’t understand that bi-weekly means you could be charged 3 times some months. I have zero complaints and would gladly recommend this gym to any of my friends especially for the cost - if they raise prices, it would be a huge mistake.

Consistently awful... gym rules are posted on the wall and every week every single one of them is broken without any comment or action from the staff... talking on phone... children running around in gym area... dropping weights... improper shoes... pointless...pretty sure a high schooler must pick the gym music... classes prop the doors open with screaming instructors.... I guess we ALL must take their class.... my year is almost up & I'm out....

Gold’s Gym keeps wrongfully billing us, long after we cancelled our memberships.
We cancelled our memberships after they closed the 1051 W Patrick St location. I have the original contracts, and the documents confirming our cancellation request. Almost a year later, Gold’s Gym is still trying to bill my credit card.
Do not join Gold’s Gym unless you want a crowded gym where you can hardly move and/or want to deal with their shady billing practices!!!

I went for a tour of a Gold’s Gym and signed up for a membership today. I called in advance and made an appointment to meet Carl (Manager). Carl was knowledgeable, he was not pressure orientated, and he took the time to understand my goals. He gave me the tour and pointed out equipment and activities that would support my goals. He understood that my goals have changed as I’ve aged and I’m starting out at a low level of fitness that needs to be carefully trained back to a higher level of fitness. When signing up I pointed out that the new facility in Germantown (opening in Spring β€˜23) will likely be closer for me to attend. He encouraged me to sign up with them online and he would issue the member card. Despite not personally adding me to his recruitment count to his facility he understood the importance of bringing a member into the Golds Gym family. Great guy and great experience. Carl is an asset to the Gold Brand and a team player. 5 Stars.

I never complaint because I’m grateful to be part of this Gym is where my journey to losing 120 pounds. The air conditioner broke and you need to wait a month or more to be fixed, the same for the equipment, you can’t use the steam room, I totally recommend to focus more and keep the gym in perfect condition than drama of unhappy people, looking always for spread there negativity.

I love the fact that the gym is really serious, the environment is really calm and you can use some of the rooms when available; also the service is excellent. I always go at morning time like 5:30am and do some workout by myself and then Body pump or cycle classes with Melissa.
Also I already use one free training pass with Ms Megan and she is a really experienced and professional Trainer.

First the good, the staff is great and they have quality equipment and weights. After that though, this is hands down the smallest Gold's Gym I've ever set foot in. Why do they have a gigantic basketball court that I've only ever seen 2 people use? I actually hadn't planned on writing a review, but then I saw Daniel Booth's review and he said exactly what I've said on EVERY single customer survey they send me. I thought, maybe it's just me, but clearly it's not. The building itself isn't small, the space is just poorly utilized.
Forget that the whole covid situation makes it awkward to be crammed in like sardines even before that this gym was a disaster. You can't get to the dumbell rack without disrupting anyone using them on a bench in front of them. The benches themselves are forced to be so close together that I defy anyone to walk between two of them when there's someone on each.
If you actually want to lift, good luck if you go after 4pm because the already cramped space is packed.
As a bonus to all this, it's almost $50 a month now. When the price was better, it was easier to tolerate how cramped it is or make the effort to get a workout in at lunch or late mornings when t's less crowded.
Lose the basketball court or continue to lose customers. Heck, the people at the desk are friendly and ALWAYS say hello. Have them follow it up with a simple. Keep the basketball court or add more equipment and get more space question and keep track of the responses. Within a week I guarantee just about everyone wants more weight and cardio equipment. Of the 140 reviews of this gym on Google not a one, mentions how great having a basketball court is. Even if new equipment is cost prohibitive at this time, spacing out what's there would be greatly appreciated. This just seems like such an obvious solution for a problem, that it's shocking it hasn't been done.

I signed up online for the 3 day free trial and walk in this morning. I was welcomed by the lady at the front desk and Karl. Once’s signed in Karl took me to his desk to discuss membership options and etc. I gave him my I.D as requested from Karl. He then proceeded to tell me I couldn’t workout unless I payed for a day pass or signed up. That the address on my I.D wasn’t local and that I couldn’t workout. I called my employer and Airbnb host just to clarify that I do indeed live in Fredrick now and would’ve even considered signing up if I was given the chance to feel out the gym. I’ve honestly never met such a poor quality individual in my life. Absolutely no understanding or willingness to help out in any way. Only presented options that involved me paying money. What’s the point of the free pass if I’m going to be haggled the second I walk into the door. Honestly it looks nice inside and only 7 minutes from where I live. It’s really unfortunate. I am disappointed, sad and mad. I highly recommend replacing Karl(or Carl) for someone who actually cares about customer service

In a word: Cramped. As someone who has been to several Golds facilities over the years this is by far the smallest Golds Gym I have ever been to - especially in terms of free weight/machine space. There is only one true squat rack, there is basically no open space in the weight area to do exercises like deadlifts, machines/equipment are few in number and are literally on top of each other - so you are constantly waiting on something or working out with people walking over top of you.

The layout of this facility is horrid in terms of space utilization, the crazy part is it is also totally unnecessary given there is a full size basketball court (which is a nice thing to have, but given the total amount of floor space it eats up it's not at all worth it). My advice to the new ownership group is that the basketball court needs to be eliminated/modified (half court or modified full-court) and that all the cardio equipment be moved into the newly created floor space, then the current cardio space can be used to expand the existing weight area - IF that was done this gym may actually be decent.

I think this facility needs to decide what it wants to be - an actual gym or a smallish YMCA with Golds insignia on the walls

The miscommunication is not right or fair. This is not the time or season for any miscommunication when dealing with a member's money. It is almost like you (Carl or karl) from Westview care nothing about taking care of the members. Long story, try to be short. After the gym opened back up around June I went in to cancel my membership. Karl said he could freeze my membership and if I still was not utilizing my membership we can cancel. So I said I would give it a try. Not sure why I did that. Little did I know and little did he share, the next month I would automatically be charged again. I not only was charged for one month but two months. Are you kidding me, I tried to cancel and instead you made a suggestion but did not deliver on your end of the bargain. #1 you did not say it the charges with resume. You said if I did not use the facility then we would cancel. Then I called on 09/25/20 and spoke with Karl who apologized for the miscommunication and asked what could he do. So I came up with a solution, do not charge me for the next 2 months and I will use the facilities since I was charged without there consent. I asked him to email the information in writing like he said he would, but as of this moment Karl still has not emailed me. I am done with Gold's Gym and was not treated fairly from Westview area.

I was a member of this Gym for 15 years before it was Gold's and watched the decline under Gold's management. After numerous management changes and no change in management results (broken equipment for months and months, lack of sanitary procedures for the equipment and the unwillingness of the staff to enforce even the basic rules they have posted) I decided it was time for a change and cancel my membership. Beware, that's where the real problems start! You have to cancel in person and if they don't follow thru on their end you continue to get billed. They have gone so far as to use a different vendor number to charge against a card that I had to cancel because of them 7 months ago. The credit card companies allow re-accuring charges to jump from a canceled card to the new one if the vendor persist in charging it.

Don’t go here if you plan on trying to better yourself. Passive aggressive attitude, laughter, snickering, all things you can expect when working with the staff here. Unfortunately these are reasons why companies like planet fitness can even compete. Steer clear of the current management staff here as they don’t want to see you improve.

Inattentive management did not follow up with my request to cancel, for months after, until I finally called back. Be careful of moving away from the original location. Not all locations accept your "Universally Accepted" membership. So, once you move away you'll have to send a certified mail letter, which management might lose, and then continue to charge your credit card with. Still dealing with collections calls from Gold's 6 months afterwards - I paid for my time - not my fault your management did not process my request to cancel on time. Feel very cheated as someone who hasn't stepped foot there since last year. Leaning on my credit card company to dispute charges. Headaches included free of charge.

I signed up at Gold's Gym Westview one month ago and am moderately satisfied. The location offers good equipment in fairly new condition, clean exercise spaces, and a staff that is friendly and responsive.

The initial fitness assessment lasts one hour and includes a 3D body scan that shows body composition and estimates how long it would take to reach any given fitness goal. Dylan, the personal trainer who did my assessment, was personable and knowledgeable and answered all my questions. I got a lot of value from the free session, and I found the rates for ongoing personal training quite reasonable.

Unfortunately security at this gym is lackluster. My wallet and bag were stolen out of a locked locker in the men's locker room on May 12, and I found out that security camera footage at this location is not recorded to DVR. One would hope Gold's Gym would do more to identify the thief and protect its members. I found the general manager's blasΓ© attitude towards this fundamental security flaw disheartening, to say the least.

Nevertheless, the location offers decent value for the $35/mo, no initiation deal I signed up under. Just make sure to lock any valuables in your car and out of view, or you'll risk being victimized the way I was.

White guy at front desk with man-bun is extremely rude. Wanted to tour the gym as I am new to the area. Was told that would be $15, and when I asked if we could do a 1-day trial he became very rude.

Not the worst gym, but not the best either. Have a decent amount of free weights. Gym can get over crowded quick due to its small size. Usually kept clean, though, so that is a big plus.

I've never been to a Gold's Gym. The name Gold's Gym evokes thoughts of bodybuilding legends. I lift at a true powerlifter/bodybuilding gym - the kind that smells like sweat and hard work. This place smells like someone opened a bottle of Drakkar Noir and rubbed it on the walls. Imagine an LA Fitness, and then add a bunch of people that think they're going hardcore because they're in a building that says Gold's Gym. Knee high socks with Nike sandals, iPhone selfies and cardio equipment from wall to wall. This was very disappointing. I will say, one redeeming quality, was the basketball court. It is divided in half; one side for shooting the other side for conditioning work. Was shocked to see a little bit of strongman equipment.

Tried it for a month. The patrons don't wipe down anything, the staff doesn't care. There's not even a policy of stripping weights. The equipment and space are adequate but 5 of 10 treadmills are broken. They double-charged me for the first month. The salesman was very good. No hard feelings, I'm just not satisfied with it for the price.

My husband and myself came to check the gym out and see if it was a place we would be interested in going. After Jordan, their fitness manager (who looks like he's never worked out a day in his life), wasted a half hour of our time they then wanted to charge us $30 to try the gym out for one day. Terrible customer service, we look for a gym that allows you a hassle free workout experience. This clearly is not the place for that. Do not go here unless you are looking for a salesperson to attempt to push you into things you are not interested in. Way to go Golds!

Poor management. My son and I have been a member for almost 5 years. The reason we became members is for us to use the basketball gym. Don't ever think about going there on weekdays to use the basketball gym. The management will allow full court games from 6 pm until 9 pm and doesn't care about other patrons waiting to use the hoops. I complained about this a couple of times but nothing has been done to correct the issue. Terrible place.

The staff are friendly at this location, they seem to patrol the gym which is a plus probably to make sure everything is in order. Huge plus that their leg sled machine is double rack!! The equipment does vary like most Golds gyms, it just needs some time to get use to and preferably I would like more hammer equipment for back.

This gym cost more than what i wanted to pay, but the question is, does the quality and reward match the price being paid?
I say, absolutely yes, this isn't just a local gym. My question to others would be, what are you looking for?

The Staff? I find them to be delightful. They are fit, they are motivated, they are knowledgeable and friendly. In two months I have not had a single unpleasant encounter with any of the staff members or trainers.

Free weights? This gym has met all of my expectations.

Cardio equipment? Even in the busiest times, I am always able to find an available machine.

Personal training? I can't speak for all the trainers, and I'm not sure how I was given mine, but He is exceptional, knowledgeable, to the point, and motivated. I don't leave a training session without a full understanding of what workout is being done and why.

Barbell equipment(benchs, squat racks. Etc.)? In the heat of rush hour, this place is packed, so you MUST know how to communicate for what you want. But take a training session or go during less traffic and you have all the equipment you need.

TRX and misc. Equipment? Several TRX assemblies, Two flipping tires, battle ropes, weight maul/hammer, kettle bells and medicine balls.

Basket ball court?it's always open to half court play, one day a week (that they make known) the gym is open to full court. I don't play basketball, so if this is your main or only interest, I can't speak for or against if this is the right place for you.

If you are on a budget, there are other gym options. But if you can afford it, this particular GOLD'S Gym is 100% worth your time.

what's the point of having a basketball court if you can't even play basketball. one of the few local gyms with a basketball court and i'm paying $30/mo to only be allowed to use it once a week. poor management, only cares about money. if you are interested in playing basketball, i recommend another gym.

Great gym with great staff who are friendly and helpful. The gym also tends to have pretty good regulars during the lunch hours. If you live or work near the area and need to hit the gym I suggest this one.

It's not my home gym so I know nothing about their bulling. It's better than the ither golds in the area , but it's still just okay. Like if they offered golds fit( crossfit) , had a pool , and cinema cardio like my home gym then it would be great .

I have a travel pass for Gold's Gyms...

This one is layed out awkwardly. This is not your "lifters" gym. This is more of a weekend warrior, novice level gym. Quite honestly, the worse layout and about of equipment i've seen from golds. I give it a 3 star because the locker rooms are nice, and the basketball court is pretty legit for a gym. But again, more of a cardio oriented gym with crowds raging from beginner, to the older crowds.

It's a good gym that is mostly well maintained. The stream room seems to be perpetually on the fritz. The locker rooms need to be regularly swept and/or mopped.

The gym is only ok, but management is terrible. I trained here for 5 days a week for over a year, and the manager and people working the front desk never even knew my name. My contract was for 1 year, and then it went to month by month. Auto payment from card on file. They offered me a new deal, I declined and said I will stick with the month to month no contract as is. Then they changed my membership to a prepaid and canceled me. This is a sad excuse for a Golds gym. Trying to force me into a new contract. I left and went to Sport & Health down the road. Best move I have ever made. Its a real gym with a ton more to offer, super clean and great management. Very friendly and respectful people. Plus, Sport & Health was 20 bucks cheaper a month, for 10 times the equipment and space.

This is a "Dr. Jeckel & Mr. Hyde" kind of place. I went in (had not been to a gym before) on a Groupon (best way to try it out without having to fork over a credit card, etc.) Had a very mixed experience. Let me explain

The good:

Great people, ready and willing to help, and show you how to use the machines! (ask for Brian - he is GREAT)

CLEAN.

Good machines, well maintained. Lots of them. You do not have to wait for a machine.

The BAD

PRESSURE TO SIGN UP. When I first went there, they knew I was on a Groupon. Still had to sit through the full "sign up now for a year" presentation; fairly hard sell. I kind of expected this, so was prepared for it.

The "Fitness assessment". This was the biggest letdown and source of frustration and anger I had. As part of the "coupon" I got a "free fitness assessment". So, I made the appointment and went in. Was supposed to take an hour, and was supposed to get a good idea of my fitness level, best type of workout, etc. WHAT A JOKE!!! The "assessment" took less than 15 minutes. I then had to sit through 45 minutes of why I should sign up for a personal trainer (at $300 + a MONTH). Needless to say, I declined. Felt very taken advantage of and "gamed". Was so angry I did not even go back for a week, until I calmed down.

Conclusion:

IF
you can get a coupon, and not have to sign up for a year, etc;
and
You do not need a trainer or don't mind paying a lot for it
Then
The staff is very friendly, the equipment and facility is nice.

Would I do it all over again? Yes, but I would certainly skip the "assessment". As to their billing policies, I don't know and cannot comment.

Will I join after the Groupon is over? Maybe. Will sure look for another Groupon first though.
