They just let anyone run around here in their shirts off. The front desk guy told the guy to put it back on. The guy just took it off after he left. I wish the gym enforced its rules more :( It makes other gym goers uncomfortable and it’s unsanitary. He never even wiped down the machine…

Wouldn’t recommend this gym to anyone. Witnessed the toll & stress my husband had to endure to try and cancel his membership remotely. This gym is extremely unaccommodating to situational awareness, which in turn negatively affected his credit score, which has a direct impact on me as well.

Let me start by saying I never write reviews, but my experience with Gold’s Gym has been so frustrating and unprofessional that I feel compelled to warn others.

After moving across the country to California, I discovered there were no Gold’s Gym locations anywhere near me. Naturally, I called to cancel my membership. I was told that cancellations could not be done over the phone and that I would need to come in person to cancel, despite the fact that I now live over 6.5 hours away by plane.

When I explained my situation, the representative I spoke with was extremely rude, dismissive, and completely unwilling to help. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this issue, I was continuously stonewalled by their staff and provided no reasonable solution.

To make matters worse, my account was sent to collections for a mere $20/month membership, and my credit score has suffered as a result, all because Gold’s Gym refused to provide any legitimate way to cancel my membership remotely.

It’s clear from reading other reviews that this isn’t an isolated incident, it’s a pattern of unethical and predatory business practices. .

Do yourself a favor and choose ANY other gym except Gold’s Gym. Gold’s Gym has proven to be dishonest, unhelpful, and completely indifferent to their customers once they have your payment information.

Its a good gym but the marley station locations wifi is terrible, keeps going in and out does not work really well. It needs work effectively. Also the machines on the 2md floor of the gym needs alot more. Understood that the 1st floor has alot of equipment but needs upgrades. Still would go but still needs better upgrades.

Been going here for 6 years. A couple months ago there was a live bat in the gym for two days before it was removed. Yesterday evening there was a live rat or mouse running around. If you value your health do not go here until major changes have been made. Have videos of both animals in the gym as well. Unfortunately this place has gone downhill considerably since Covid hit but this is absolutely unacceptable. Do better and value guests health, beyond embarrassing.

Since Rachel started managing this gym you can see the difference and how dedicated she is. The gym it's cleaner and more organized now than years before, props to her.
They also have people who speak Spanish at the front desk now which it's amazing, my wife it's very happy about that.
Overall a very nice location, only thing I'll say it was very hot when I visit it.

I just joined this gym. I'm glad to say it's been great thus far. Most of the equipment looks brand new, and they have equipment that your average gym probably won't. There's two floors: the bottom floor is mainly free weights, cardio, and squat racks; the upper level is mainly cardio, abs, machines, and with a room for women to workout in. The past interactions I've had with the staff has been good this far - I know there's been some complaints about that.

Update 10/23: still a great gym. They've added a bit more equipment and rearranged while doing so

Golds gym was expensive for cash. Especially that i joined first day and requested the speed bag to be put in.. 3 months later and i didnt have a speed bag. I was told they had one when i paid at the front desk. The whole reason i went was for that. For the lie of him saying yes we have one (broken at the time) and the 3 months of not replacing it. Place is trash. They didnt care to fix the problem.

The gym keeps adding new equipment and expanding to an outdoor gym area, which is great. However, they seem to struggle with basic upkeep. The men's bathroom has had a sink out of commission for a month, the men's sauna has been closed for weeks just because they won't fix the door, and the hand dryers haven't been working for weeks. It's really disappointing when you walk into the locker room and see all these issues.

To make matters worse, the front desk staff can't even answer basic questions about these concerns. And to top it off, the locker door in the photo has been hanging on by one hinge for weeks. They won't even take a few minutes to remove it with a screwdriver, which is not only annoying but also a safety concern.

Overall, it's frustrating to see the gym neglecting these basic maintenance issues. Hopefully, they can step up their game and start taking better care of their facilities.

The gym is ok at best. The equipment is all over the place and no one puts their dumbbells or plates back in the correct spots, meaning you can never find what you need when you need it in a timely manner.

The bench press benches aren't even bolted to the floor and the structures move with weights on them, which is extremely unsafe. It's only a matter of time until one collapses and it injures someone. Equipment is constantly unmaintained and broken down.

The benches are falling apart and are old and crappy, and never sanitized. The cleaning crew usually cleans the common floor areas and the bathrooms, and that is it. The attention also needs to be on the equipment.

I went to the Charleston, SC Gold's gym, and it is pristine and well cared for. It's well lit, extremely clean, everything is new and nice, well maintained, and people flock to that gym.

The outdoor space is okay, but there are leaves and debris everywhere. It's as if this owner does not want pay for maintenance and cleanup. It could be so much better. The minute a nicer gym comes to the area, I'd switch immediately.

I am open to editing my review should things change for the better, but I need to see change.

The generic responses to the negative reviews are lackluster, unmotivated, and ingenuine. They will not change until there is a large exodus of people and they lose a ton of revenue.

I’ve been trying to cancel my membership for months. Every time I call it’s “sorry the managers not here” and then they say they’ll take down my phone number and get in contact. They never have. I’ve gone in person and miraculously there’s somehow no manager each time i’ve gone. They are so smug the second you mention wanting to leave and they’ve made cancelling my account the hardest thing ever. Sadly the lowest I can give them is one star, because even that gives too much credit. I thought golds was supposed to stand for something good, but obviously it’s just another business trying to leech off of everybody trying to cancel. Also that atmosphere is so hit or miss try to go 10 minutes in there without someone’s ego acting out it’s near impossible. Maybe leaving this review will all of a sudden help get my account cancelled, and if it doesn’t I hope it helps anyone who is thinking about attending golds gym.

Love my local gym. No issues, they clean periodically, never heavily busy, lots of machines and room. They have an outdoor area, two levels with multiple rooms for working out. It's usually busier on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Machines are placed sporadically with absolutely no thought to space, meaning that everything is jammed up against everything else. Half of the machines are broken in some way. There are weights laying all over the floors everywhere. There are holes in the drywall all over the place. I have never seen a single gym employee pick up weights or wipe down any machines, or do literally anything besides standing around chit chatting. This is an absolute embarrassment of a gym.

Most unorganized gym with staff who have no clue what’s going on that I’ve ever experienced. 6 times in the last couple months, I’ve called to verify the kids club was open (because 2-3 times before this over the last 2 years I’ve had issues). They have told me it is, and provided hours. 15-20 minutes later, I show up and they tell me kids isn’t open or they are closing early.

This gym is pretty decent. I love the hours they have for the child care center, great hard working ladies work in there. 24 hour gym is great. I really like the ladies only area. I'm still intimated by all the heavy pro like lifters downstairs, but I'll make my way down stairs sooner or later, lol. I NEVER liked working out before I came to Golds Gym, this isn't a plug for Golds Gym, it's just the truth. I've already lost 30 lbs. My only complaint is that the upstairs machines (treadmill, stepper, a weight machine or two) are inoperable, and now the ladies sauna is broke (hopefully the sauna is fixed soon). I know equipment breaks, but they all seem to be breaking at once. Oh, everyone at the gym (staff and members) have all been very pleasant. I thought i was going to get judged because everyone is soooo fit there, but everyone is super nice. Either way, I don't see myself going to any other gym. Keep up the good work.

I go early in the mornings to avoid the crowds, I went during regular hours once, but they were way over crowded and tripods set up everywhere, the turn around on their equipment that breaks is really slow, the rear delt machine has been broken for a week now, weights are always scattered around so you have to look for them.

I moved out of state. Prior to moving out of state I tried meeting with the account manager to cancel my membership thirty days in advance. Every time I tried to do so she was not working or, “available”. I’ve called numerous times to get in touch with her and have been told she is either in a meeting, busy, or not working that day. Every time it’s, “I’ll take your name and number down and she’ll get back to you”, which has never happened. My account keeps getting billed and it’s been four months now.

This location needs to hire a new account manager and or new front office staff because they are either lazy or incompetent at doing their job.

Yesterday morning I was subjected to a verbal and near physical assault by two other members at your facility. As I was using a machine, a man, Scott Smoot, aggressively approached me demanding to know how long I would be on the machine. I have been asked this before, as has nearly anyone who works out at a gym with other members. This individual was loud, rude, and aggressive, and he proceeded to berate me as I told him I was not yet done using the machine. His wife April Smoot (an EMT by the way) then joined in on his verbal assault, coming nearly nose-to-nose with me as a yelled back defending myself. In the course of this verbal altercation, the two used racial slurs and told me to go "back to my country." At one point, the man lunged at me as if he intended to physically attack me, with his intentions only thwarted by the intervention of another member acting as a Good Samaritan. The two then threatened that I would be subjected to additional verbal and physical abuse in the parking lot, at which point I retreated to a tanning room, calling the police as I did not feel safe walking to my vehicle alone.

My actions were entirely in self defense to this unprompted, unwarranted, and unacceptable behavior by the man I have outlined. These members are a liability to your facility and franchise, as if they can behave this way towards me, they can and likely will demonstrate the same behavior in the future. I encourage you to review your security camera footage to prove that my actions were in self defense.

I fully intend to cancel my membership with Gold's Gym. The fact that I was told by on-site personnel that the couple would not be banned from the facility because "they have been members for a long time" means that my safety is not a priority for your establishment, and I have no intention of subsidizing your business while putting my safety and peace of mind at risk. I will be sending this information to your corporate headquarters so they may be kept apprised of the issues at your facility, and will be sharing my experience on various social media platforms.

- Tripods everywhere. I spend more time dodging tripods than I do weights on the floor. Plus I don’t feel like being on someone’s social feed (I’ve seen myself in the background!)

- Fountain water is very warm to hot. It’s never cold

- Weights are all over the place. Never racked. Especially the lighter dumbbells. They’ll be over in the training area, upstairs, in the racks, etc

- Parking is obnoxious. Abandoned vehicles, lines of SDE trucks in the tow away row, vehicles parking in the hashmarks between the handicap spots, vehicles parked randomly in the middle of the lot where no parking spaces are

- There is never any staff walking the floor enforcing rules or putting weights back where they belong. Front desk staff always constantly on their phones all the time

- When something breaks, and it breaks often, it’s months until it’s repaired

- A lot of guys just sweating away on the benches shirtless and walking away without a wipe down

- Selfies in the bathrooms have to be careful you don’t accidentally get picked up in the background. Not to mention the no camera rule in the bathroom, but the gym gets tagged on socials with bathroom selfies and the members continue to show up than be kicked out

I love this gym, I have been coming here for around 5 or 6 years. I have had a great experience with the child care with both of my kids, from the time they were 6 months and up to 8 years old. Workout equipment is great, and so are the tanning booths if that's your thing. Overall you're not going to find anything better for the price, I even tried out LA fitness and ended up coming back here.

Just like many members, after not using my membership for 2 years, I went in to try to cancel it. I was told I could only cancel Monday to Friday from 9 to 6. Got a babysitter so I could go in the next Friday, was told there were no managers there that day but I could fill out a paper.
I did but they are still charging me, 2 months later. They always claim there are no managers there.

Ladies gym is mostly old equipment, never has free weights, you have to walk around hunting for them. The overhead music is mixed with a television playing the whole time. Make sure you clean everything before you use it, because I watch people sweat all over stuff and walk always every day.

Once you sign up they will not let you cancel your membership and charges just keep piling up. I was just on the phone with the finance manager who told me she will not cancel my membership until I pay at least once more month of service. I showed up in person three different times in December to cancel and was told by the person at the desk that I have to come in when the manager is there and they only work part time. I had to put a stop payment on my bank since they wouldn’t cancel my membership and they are still charging me every month for this membership I don’t want. I’m getting collection calls now . I used to belong and stopped once they made us wear masks while working out. Sorry, but a person needs to breathe oxygen, especially when working out.
I just went back and noticed it has really gone downhill. They still have old machines that don't operate properly and could hurt someone, which should have been disposed of years ago. The floors are clean but the non-movable parts of the machines are not. Don't get me started on the tanning beds, absolutely horrible! One is out of order. A stand up has what looks like watermarks (probably something else) on the bulbs and hair and lint streaming up. Another stand up had 4 bad bulbs. The lay down bed had one whole section of the face tanner burnt out and the screws were coming apart. Another bed had bodily fluid. This place has turned from a great place to a place I wouldn't take a pet into.

Yesterday was my first time taking my child to the day care. My kid through a tentrum and me and my son had to go home. They did not give me a warning nor nothing or give me a chance to take care of my son. My son is 2.5 and tentrum are normal at that age. I go to the other Ritchie highway Glen Burnie and they give my son attention and if anything they give me a chance to settle down my child. And everything is fine. I have been going to them for two years and had not had an issue with there day care. I believe this gym needs more child care workers. There are so many kids and a couple where crying when I first got there. Please invest into more child care workers and for them to be more attentive. It’s like they where trying to get rid of my child because of how many kids where there. Never coming back to this gym again due to my child care experience. I will continue to go to my nearby gold gym location instead. The front desk child care lady was so overworked that she had an attitude and was slouching while holding her face while talking to me. Terrible customer service.

I love this gym, but it needs a deep clean and some regular maintenance. Those tanning areas are not cleaned at all, which is visibly evident by the trash on the floors, dirty walls/chairs, etc. It was confirmed to me by the gentlemen behind the counter when they tried to get me to use a room someone else was still in. They knew she was in there, they warned me to knock, but had no intention of cleaning between customers. Nope, that’s nasty and dangerous.

That said, the changes they’ve made to the setup and equipment have been great, I think they’ve done the best with the space they have without looking overcrowded. Workers are friendly and helpful. Gym just needs to create some standards on cleaning, and making the locker room showers usable (curtains are way too small, doesn’t come close to shutting).

This is my Home Location . Mangament is on point .. reception is on point ,so the customer service side is near perfect. I observed the maintenance man fixing and installing equipment, and new areas with the meager space available. The selection of merchandise .. pre , post workout and other miscellaneous items are very good and affordable. I say after all my 10 years of being a Gym goer this location is were it has to be to maintain the interest and maintaining the interest of the average gym goer to the starting power lifter or fitness enthusiast. I won’t blame the management but cancelling a membership here was such a hassle. I haven’t been here for a year due to military orders, due to COVID and such getting to the gym to cancel was a hassle back in Sept2020. A few months later in Dec I checked my statement and saw that I was still paying no biggie though I hadn’t been in months it was my fault since I had forgotten to cancel. I called. And notified person that I was on orders and gone. They said cool. They’d take not and my info and it would be taken care of. Fast forward more to May-ish of 2021. Still paying. Call the place and they say sorry for the inconvenience he said I was not cancelled I need to show up to cancel. I told him my situation and he said I understand. I’ll take care of it. I still not once have asked for anything back. I ask for zero refund. None of it. I just didn’t want to pay. Fast forward again to Oct 2021. Finally. TODAY I have cancelled. They said they needed documentation saying that I was cancelling. I won’t blame the lady I spoke to. She seemed as helpful as she could be. But why a dumb thing. I paid for a membership that I have not used in literally 12 months due to bad procedures and bad communication. Tired of places like this. Pay me for what I use. So if your military I am not saying don’t choose this place, just take in my experience. I gave 2 stars only because the manager who I will refer to as T seemed to be trying to be helpful. I just know I’ll never touch a Golds Gym again. Which sucks because It was actually a pretty good gym.

Edit: after posting I started reading the comments and see that this is a common theme. Sucks cause I’m headed back to the area soon. But hey there are other gyms in the area for you mil ppl that may have to cancel at a moments notice

As an update to my post below. I see some effort to make the gym better. The manager bought some new weight trees and boxes, which was very helpful. However the cleaning crew is not adequate and the staff doesn’t often make rounds to organize equipment. As a result the locker room/bathroom often needs work, and the turf area has random equipment scattered most of the time.

A good value for the price. I like the turf area and the variety of bumper plates. However the place feels dirty and poorly kept. Most of this falls on the members who are too lazy/unaware to clean and put equipment back where it came from, but of course Gold’s is ultimately responsible for how the place is kept.

The whole mask business is way too hyped here and it makes it hard to enjoy your workout. The gym has a mask policy that is far more strict than that of anne arundel county and it ruins the whole experience.

Oh see it's funny that Gold's mentions governor Hogan and his mask policies because they go by county with gym guidelines and AACO specifically mention gyms and how masks are not required when actively exercising at a distance of over six feet. Then they also make an exception for breathing problems. Golds needs to maybe focus more on taking care of their members rather than appeasing nonexistent guidelines and trying so desperately to get more people to sign up :/

I had recently moved across country for an emergency with my family and when attempting to cancel my membership, the staff tells me i cannot unless in person which there is no way i can do for obvious reasons which the staff were made aware of too. They told me to write a letter so i did and it’s been a few a weeks and i get a $49.99 charge on top of another monthly $12.99 when i haven’t been there in 2 months!! I’m assuming they never got my letter and even if they do when will they read it?? Really frustrated with the whole situation and will be attempting to contact corporate

There is no social distancing going on in this gym, the equipment i have never seen wiped down, overall disgusting and a festering place for the virus. Staff working in glen burnie are rude and entitled, I have had such a negative experience at this location. I will be contacting the state over these horrendous things that are happening here.

I love this gym: it's the first gym I ever felt at home at. The equipment is great, and the recent extension is a AWESOME addition.

Unfortunately, this is a gym that does not seem to respect its members. The extension is usually filled with loud, vulgur music in the mornings, even though there are signs that state "No Profanity." I left a Tweet and a suggestion box note indicating this, and also mentioned it to a worker, and after a week, nothing changed. Currently I drive 3 times further to Crofton just to avoid this place. Not a big deal to some people, but it is to others.

I LOVE this gym! They just need more variety in classes & class times...like, what happened to Sh'BAM? Maybe put that in the evenings for more participation? They took away the Sunday spin class with the Live instructor! Virtual is cool & good for late nights, but I still really enjoy the human instructor too! I’ve been coming to this location (on and off, sadly) for 6 years now, and while I have always really liked this gym, I’ve noticed a decline in the functionality of the equipment. Tonight, I got on 4 different cardio machines that weren’t working properly. I’m hoping for new or better equipment for when the addition is done! Other than that, this place is a great!

I was a member of this gym about 3 years ago. I got laid off of my job and also had found out that I was pregnant so I went to cancel my membership. When I went to cancel my membership they told me that I somehow had a contract with them and that I needed to pay $200 something so that I can cancel. How did I have a "contract" when I signed up for a month to month plan? This also went on my credit report as well. I was considering going back to this gym and I was told that I will have to pay $213 before I can join again. My membership monthly was $29.99. I don't understand how I had such large balance. I only came here because they had the children's room while I worked out, but I see that I will have to find somewhere else to go now.

Great gym. Great facility. Great staff. Mostly great equipment. I tried a few gyms before this one, and Marley Gold's is definitely the best in the area. I absolutely love the Cardio Cinema and hydro massagers. I am really looking forward to the upcoming expansion.

One annoyance is that there are always noisy or broken machines in the cardio cinema. Most days it is a non-issue, but on crowded days or when other gym patrons insist on using the noisy machines it can really drive you nuts!

I don't know why people are complaining about being organized. Every time I'm in here (every night) it's a good experience. The problem isn't the employees, it's the people who come in and get 5 sets of random equipment and throw it all over the place for their workout, and leave without cleaning it up for the next person. Don't expect the employees to follow your every move and put your stuff away, clean up and wipe the equipment down yourself and no one would have problems. I do agree the bathroom isn't the greatest but who expects a men's locker room to smell like roses? If you want to cancel it's not that hard to call corporate it takes 5 minutes.. stop whining and do what you gotta do.

Currently, the gym is smaller than most other Gold's Gyms. The staff did say they would be purchasing some neighboring stores in the mall to make the gym bigger.

There is a ladies only section, classes, and personal trainers. I would give 5 starts but the machines are filthy. No one wipes the machines down.

I talked to somebody from the coustomer service stand about canceling my membership 2-3 months back and they took my name down and everything, then said “okay the process will be made”. I signed up for this gym while I lived in Glen Burnie temporarily. I explained to the young man at the counter that I did not want a contract and that I would be leaving MD soon, so I wanted something short term. The man sold me a "1 month no contract" Membership for $19.99. I let him know I didn't want my card to be charged and he said that I could pay in cash and that my card would not get charged (they just needed a card on file). I only stayed in MD for 2 weeks and come to find out 2 months later, I am still being charged the twenty bucks a month. When I called them about something I thought was a mistake and would be resolved, I was told that I signed up for a yearly membership and that if I wanted to cancel, it would take 30 days to process the cancellation!! They were so rude on the phone and I don't understand why their employees feel the need to lie to people to get them to sign up. I dont know if employees are put under pressure to make sales or what. Somebody was lying. I would NOT have signed up had I known it was a contract, my card would be charged, and I'd have to wait 30 days more for the cancellation. I was VERY CLEAR with the representative and I am furious that I was lied to!!

I personally like the franchise, I’ve worked out at various locations across the country. This one has to be the worst. Super dirty, staff is not friendly and is a MESS. No weight is ever put back, no order, ever machine is gross. Ever cable machine needs to be internally cleaned because they have that over used clunky feeling. I like an old school- hardcore environment but this honestly effects my training. After one week I’m canceling!

I've gone into this location twice. The first time was to sign up and the second time was to talk to a trainer to see what I could do better in my life. My husband and I don't make much money and we can only afford the $10 a month memberships (since we're both volunteer fire fighters) He was very nice in the beginning and showed me a workout routine and at the end he blindsided me with how much it would cost for me to pretty much hire him as my trainer. Once I said how tight our budget is and told him I couldn't afford it, it was almost like a totally different person was sitting Infront of me. He rolled his eyes and dang near aggressively balled up the papers we were working on. He was tall and I believe had red hair and was obviously very fit compared to my post partum body. Rudest person I've come into contact with at the gym. I refuse to go back to that location even though I've seen him at other golds doing the whole nice guy show. It's rude how he acted. I understand that he's trying to make money but there should be a statement when you set up an appointment to talk to someone that they're trying to be your personal trainer.

I've been going to the gym for month now. Compared to my old gym this gym doesn't compare. I work out at 4am and the gym is an absolute disaster no weights are ever re reracked, no organization, and lacks machines that I find very useful. It gets the job done but even at 4am it gets to crowded for me sometimes. The layout sucks too.

My girlfriend goes here. She goes at 4am every morning. The gym is always dirty, overflowing trash cans, bottles of water and paper towels laying out, equipment not put back. Also, the employee(s) are consistently late, whether it's 2 mins, 5 mins, hell sometimes even 20 mins. Hire new employees who will get to their job on time and clean up!
