Updating this review in light of something troubling I witnessed earlier this evening: the new front desk worker (young man, glasses, spaced-apart eyes, don't know his name) stormed up to one of the regulars, got into his personal space, and very rudely demanded he come with him immediately. No explanation was initially provided. My fellow looked VERY ready to defend himself but luckily asked why. Apparently it was just because his card didn't scan correctly. Thing is, the clerk said absolutely nothing about that at first, and it really seemed like a situation was about to escalate. As I was on the machine next to him and couldn't help but overhear, I was wondering if I'd have to intervene to help the guy against the clerk.
Most of the nighttime staff are excellent and have been at the desk for quite a while, and would never get aggressive over something apparently minor. I've never quite seen anything like this in many years of membership.
They should fire the new clerk before he causes a worse situation. His judgement was appallingly bad. Getting right up in someone's face without explanation at the gym of all places strikes me as unwise and a guaranteed lawsuit. Us patrons are among the most physically fit people in town. The only worse place for unprovoked aggression might be the karate studio next door, or perhaps the police station. Why on Earth wouldn't the clerk just gently tell the guy there was a sign in issue and politely ask for a moment of his time is beyond me. Just imagine if he had such a manner with a female patron...
I saw the guy later (he's a regular) and was obviously upset about it but said he's not worried about it. Turns out neither of us bring our phones, and are still using really worn out cards.
Which brings me to an issue worth warning about: several of the desk clerks have confirmed that Gold's is no longer issuing replacement cards, not even for a fee(!), and is trying to require everyone to install their phone app and bring it with them to use for sign-ins. This is the same gym that denies responsibility for any lost or stolen valuables, including phones.
Quite a few people don't bring their phones, and a lot really don't trust Gold's app and whatever it might be doing with the sensirive information on somebody's device. One-Life has no such replacement card refusal, so at least a few more patrons will probably switch rather than have to deal with an intrusive and unnecessary phone app.
To confirm what other reviewers have indicated, yes, Gold's has been charging annual and biannual fees in addition to the ever-increasing monthly fees. They're likely no longer the cheapest gym around Olney, and anyone reading this is advised to check their card statements and compare the prices at One Life and other nearby gyms. Gold's certainly isn't as competitive as they once were.
The equipment selection has been unusually stable for a while. Maybe they learned a lesson about removing equipment without replacement when the patrons that used it stopped coming.
The staff has also been fairly stable, with much less turnover than they had a few years ago. I like seeing the same friendly faces each visit. No issues with them. This new clerk really doesn't fit in.
This Olney location does actually stay open for the full advertised times of day and night. The one bad clerk from several years ago who was locking the doors 30 minutes or more before closing and refusing to let people in is long gone. Worst thing for Gold's was that it was right when One Life was opening up, and definitely lost them a lot of nighttime regulars. For those reading this, be assured that early door lockings are no longer occurring.
The crowds are still reduced from past years, though it seems busier during the times around the Rush Hours. At least in the daytime, later part of the evening, and on Weekends there's usually no wait for equipment.

WRONG place if youโre looking for a fitness club to get results, ideal if looking for a social club, men of all ages constantly looking to engage in conversation and hugging the machines for long periods of time.
After denying an older member the opportunity to engage in conversation, he went to the morning manager claiming I donโt re-rack weights and he automatically sided with him, came over to harass me for the second time about a machine that I told him I was using 10 mins earlier, Iโve never seen him asking anyone to re-rack the weights even tho the place is always a mess.
No surprise this location is always pretty empty no matter the time, no gym vibe at all.

I want to take a moment to recognize an incredible team member at this gym: Leneta at the front desk. I actually first met her through her job years ago, when my daughter took a fall in the child care area. While others were unsure how to approach me, Leneta handled the situation with complete professionalism and kindness, making sure I knew what happened and that my daughter was okay. That moment showed me the level of care she brings to her work every single day.
Since then, she and I have become friends, and itโs no surprise why. She is truly the best client care specialist Iโve ever met. She opens the gym MondayโFriday at 5am without fail, never late, always dependable. She greets every member by name, and if someone looks like theyโre having an off day, she checks in on them. Itโs rare to find someone who genuinely cares that deeply about the people who walk through the doors.
Leneta consistently goes above and beyond to make sure the gym is welcoming, running smoothly, and that any issues are handled the right way. She has built her entire schedule around being there for the members, and it shows in everything she does.
The gym is absolutely better because of her. If every workplace had a Leneta, the world would run a lot smoother!

I have visited this gym several times over the years and never experienced any issues UNTIL THIS WEEK. I arrived the last hour and scanned in and was told that my membership was not accepted by the gym. I then stated I still wanted a work out. The manager at the desk ignored me and continued working with a guest inquiring about membership. The employee in training had to ask the manager to assist me as there was only 45 minutes left until close. She then said it would cost $20 for my visit since this was not my home gym, and I said okay. She then seemingly annoyed apologized to the other customers and rang me up as if it were inconvenient. As a gymnastics trainer and coach this was the worst customer service experience Iโve seen in any gym and certainly not worth the money nor time.

Front desk staff seems to forget they are there to Greet the Members that pay their salaries.
Most unfriendly front desk staff EXCEPT for the Asian young man. He is the only shining star.
Otherwise feeling unwelcome at the front; the gym has plenty of space and is pretty clean.
They need a course on customer service and client retention. Absolutely embarrassing

Gold, I'm back, and I couldn't be more excited! From the moment I stepped through the door, Leneta at the front desk made me feel right at home. I had a bit of a hiccup with my app, but she quickly took charge, sent me an email, and got my account set up flawlessly. The gym is very clean and equipped with plenty of machines, allowing me to work out without any interruptions. I feel fantastic being back!

Normally I join a gym they walk me through the contract and then in a year or however long I use it, I cancel it and move on. This gym made that so difficult! The whole selling point for me joining was they told me that after a year if I wanted to cancel there is no additional feeds or anything like that. Well thatโs not true because they nickel and dime me like crazy once I said I was leaving and they were also really rude about it when I was confused and tried explaining why to them. Iโm used to gyms doing there thing with crazy fees but donโt lie about it.

I have two plans with Gold Gym and I had already been wrongly charged before and I tried to resolve it and nothing was done. Because I really like the gym I kept going and didn't complain about what had happened. Today I woke up and they simply charged me $235 dollars from my account and they don't even know how to tell me why. They say it's an annual fee and the monthly fee, but I've already been charged the monthly fee for the month and even the annual fee they're charging is not the amount we agreed to when we signed up for the plan. Now I'm requesting cancellation and no one can help me. They say that only at the reception desk. I'm traveling and I won't be back this weekend. I'm afraid that they'll deduct another amount from my account, especially since the one that was already charged was paid to me.

update unfortunately itโs true that the equipment isnโt being kept up. I mostly use the recumbent bikes ;one has been out for many weeks. The others need adjustments or something as they dont work smoothly. Its no longer a great value and this used to be the best one around this area๐
Excellent value for me. They made it through. Hopefully they can add more classes

Usually never too crowded, most machines and benches are usually open and ready for use. The only issue is mostly the one morning member who hogs the squat platform for over a hour and takes his shirt off to film his workouts. It was a problem at the old Germantown location, and Iโd imagine itโs rubbing people the wrong way here in Olney.

I am a long standing member of Golds gym of Olney. I have always had positive experiences with the trainers and staff but in the last few years, the gym has really become run down with many old and broken machines and damaged equipment. Yet, the fees continue to increase; the most recent increase being the annual membership dues from 90 to 130. I understand the need to increase fees if costs go up for the maintenance of the gym and equipment, but nothing has been updated. If fees continue to rise and nothing changes, I plan to go elsewhere.

Gym needs renovations. Leaking spellings, poor air circulation, high humidity. BUT, cherry on the top was responce from the management after solicited feedback. Direct citation, "Dear NAME,

My experience with Gold's Gym has been absolutely the worst. After I filled out the cancellation of service in the summer of 2018, their management failed to honor my request and continued to charge both me and my ex-husband. Despite not setting foot in the gym after I was in critical care, they showed zero remorse for my situation.
Now, six years later, I'm being hounded by a collection agency for a bill from Gold's Gym that was paid. It's clear that all they care about is your money, not the wellbeing of their customers. I would strongly advise anyone considering a membership with Gold's Gym to look elsewhere for a more trustworthy and compassionate fitness center.

I primarily work out at the Germantown location as it is close to my work. However, on the weekends and when I work from home, I use Olney as I live slightly closer to Olney. I love the change in equipment type (more weighted stations) and atmosphere from Germantown. The gym is relatively clean, the front desk staff is much more friendly than Germantown, and the equipment is in good shape. I gave it four stars as much of the equipment is dated and not always in the best shape. The gym could do with an equipment refresh, but it is a great place for every body part workout.

I don't understand why this place isn't packed like the other gyms in the area. I used to belong to Onelife in Olney, but ended my membership due to overcrowding. If I went to Onelife any time after 2pm, there was a wait for just about every piece of equipment. I took some time off and just recently joined Gold's Gym in Olney. This gym is by far the best bang for your buck in the area. It's not crowded at all, the staff is super friendly and helpful and they have everything you need. The best part of this gym by far is the "Goldsfit" class. This class is the perfect combination of conditioning and strength training. The coaches are awesome and everyone in the class is super fun. If you're on the fence about which gym to join in Olney, Gold's should be at the top of your list.

The gold's gym crew were always kind to me and willing to help me! I did work with two different trainers, and both were absolutely great. They worked with me to clear charges after i had stopped training sessions for financial reasons.
However, last month I had emailed someone on the 20th to cancel my membership entirely since I was being charged $36 each month. I was charged $16.00 for maintenance fees at the end of the month and another $36.00 today. Apparently, it was $36 because my card declined. This is extremely frustrating and disappointing. the gentleman i spoke to offered to talk with his supervisor but I declined. I've been in a situation similar to this and it doesn't do much. I don't think i'll be coming back but I do hope others continue to go, and enjoy the great employees.

Itโs a good gym. When the Golds on Layhill closed abruptly after I had been going there for 4 months they automatically transferred my membership to Olney. I soon realized the Olney Golds was way to far out of my way. The Golds on Layhill was an actual community. We all loved it. When the owners abruptly closed it that really upset me. Then transferring me to Olney which is much to far out of my way compounded how upset I was at the Golds ownerโs lack of concern for customer service. Eventually I just reluctantly found a gym that was not so far away. That is, unfortunately Planet Fitness. I donโt like it so much but the Golds owners left me no choice and the brand new Planet Fitness in Rockville is pretty nice even though itโs not the community we had in the Golds on Layhill.

If I could give a star less than one, I would. This gym let's off like it is a family friendly community gym. When there is a problem, there is no follow up or follow through to help customers resolve issues. Anne is horrific to speak with on the telephone. When I asked for her manager's contact information, she said no, "I am not disclosing this information". Avoid the anger and frustration, join a different gym in the Olney area.

I like going to Gold's Gym because they seem to always have better equipment. Better elliptical, stair climbers, treadmills, stationary bikes, and even better quality free and universal weights. This one in Olney is nicely laid out and I get the feeling there are times when it's chock-full of people, but I never encounter a huge amount of people overflowing the place, on every single machine available. I'll have to take advantage of some of their classes whenever I get a chance. It's easy to check in and out of here also.

I've been going to Gold's Olney for a decade now and its a solid gym. They did a pretty big renovation maybe 5-6 years ago, and have updated equipment at least twice since then. Overall, staff are friendly and helpful, Leneta wishes me happy morning every day I come in.

Horrible experience. The management is terrible. They force you into a contact that is nearly impossible to get out of, and I called to contact the manager 3 times. The staff is programed to automatically say the manager is in a meeting, when in reality he/she is just sitting in that office. After the third call I drove there to speak with the management team. They could not even answer any of my questions, and claimed there "legacy team" needed to handle the cancellation of my membership. NOTE: APPARENTLY NONE OF THERE STAFF CAN CANCEL YOUR CONTRACT. ONLY THE MANAGER(S) CAN, BUT THEY ARE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTACT.

I have been a member of this gym for a long time; back in the Fitness First Days! The staff are friendly and it feels like a small community gym where everyone knows you. I recently started using the gym again since the whole COVID situation and I have to say this place is spotless! I like that fact that some of the members went to the new place in town. It means NO crowds; which I can appreciate given the climate. Glad my home gym is still a family friendly place with a clean safe environment.

If I could give this gym negative stars I would. Since the pandemic started, I have been trying to postpone/cancel my membership and this gym has done everything in its power to make that as difficult as possible.
They rarely answer the phone when you call. If they do answer the phone, the right person is not there (theyโre never there) to postpone your membership...itโs absurd. Maybe thatโs all gyms but Iโve found the experience with the Olney Goldโs gym to be particularly frustrating. In mid-December, I went in person to fill out paper work to cancel my membership and yet Iโm still being billed in February.
This place is shady. I do not recommend signing up with them. My old roommate actually warned me about signing up with them. I wish I had listened to her. There are plenty of gyms in the area, donโt waste your time/money at this one.

I wouldn't recommend this gym. When Gold's in Columbia MD (Gateway) closed, we cancelled our memberships since they were transferring their remaining members to Olney. There was apparently a clerical error resulting in our memberships getting transferred and we have been trying to reach their (Olney) member services for nearly eight months. We left our number (for both me and my husband's accounts) repeatedly and could not get them to call us back. They turned this over to a credit agency and we are in the process of disputing over 11 months of gym membership for a gym who wouldn't return phone calls, is over an hour from our house, and we haven't set foot in once.

Gossipy and arrogant. I didn't have personal trainers and will never have one as I can train myself better than they can do. They are also expensive and I observed that their exercise recommendations are kind of "Mickey Mouse." Much of the staff at the desk are quite amenable but once in a while you will encounter a Gestapo, one ready to bark at you for no reason whatsoever. Also watch out for your belongings, it can be quickly stolen. Of course this also happens in other gyms. However, I was willing to bite the bullet for the sake of my exercising. I finally left Gold Gym because it didn't have a swimming pool. I will move to a gym with salty water as hard chemicals in the pool can trigger laryngitis. I also wanted to perfection my butterfly moves--it's so much fun. I always was a water aficionado since my teenage time.

I asked when it went up she said well over a year ago I told her I paid 10 bucks 2 months ago.ย She was a real horror show in every way imaginable includng her rudeness. I almost felt like sheย didn't want to deal with taking my.ย For that matter the computer didn't work and it took her about 20 tries basically to get me in the system.ย .ย Also they have an antiquated system where the customer sprays some sort of ammonia product on a paper towel to clean the machines. Just crazy...
There are other gyms in the area I will try them don't waste your money here

this location has continued to decline 15 or so years. they send out regular surveys but nothing changes. the past two managers emailed me about my concerns on my survey. they wanted to meet me to discuss. i told them i am there everyday at opening. their responses were almost identical, " i don't start until 10 am". they never responded back. it shows that there is not a responsible party, especially at opening. front desk is now inconsistent in opening times, and personality. gym is a mess. dumbbells are falling apart and dumbbells and free weights are everywhere. they continue to divide the gym into premium member areas (gold's fit, boot camp, etc) and lock any new equipment in these locations. these premium classes also takes away square footage from regular members and pushes more people into an already crowded space. if there were any options in olney, i would be there.

Great place for a good workout! Can be crowded in the evenings. Early mornings and mid-mornings to mid-afternoons are less crowded. The Gold's Fit program is really awesome. There is an additional fee for this program, but there are other opportunities to work with a trainer for free

The new treadmills are NOT CD Player friendly. I tried placing my CD player on one of the shelves and after 5 minutes it fell off and shattered on the floor. Now I'm out a CD player because some idiot thought they'd buy the "newest" treadmills without thinking how they might accomodate everyone. I've also notice there is no "Contact Us" option on the website anymore or any suggestion box in the gyms themselves. Obviously serving the patrons and making things convenient for us all is just too difficult a task .

Donโt event think about trying to go To this gym after work its filled with high schoolers spending hours on every piece of equipment. Went in before work and they closed down the Womens showers with no accommodations. HAd to go home immediately to shower just so Iโd get to work on time

This is a good gym by most any standards. It has very heavy weights with some dumbbells going as heavy as 180lbs. There is a room for CrossFit, aeorbics and spinning. Even a dedicated open room for kettlebells that is perfect for trainers. They also have a stretch machine. It's just a great gym with dedicated parking and friendly people that workout there.

Out of Towner visiting family in the area. The gym is nice and big. Lots of equipment seems to be a lot of classes. I would say the staff and the other gym goers are not that friendly.

No punching bag? How can a gym not have a punching bag? And the gym is huge. Certainly you can find a place to put one. The gold's gym I'm with here in Simi valley California has two large punching bags, a boxing ring and a speed bag. C'mon guys lets get back to what the word gym really means and get with a the program. a boxing workout is so important to so many people's routine.

I love it here. CrossFit (Goldsfit) has me in great shape in just over 6 weeks. The coaches are great and they keep all their equipment running well. No complaints here!

No stars, not even the one I had to select - Charged fees that I did not sign up for and after no less than 10 calls, I walked in to discuss the charges. No surprise the person I needed to talk to wasn't there - I'm guessing she is never there because my phone calls were not returned even the in person request I made. After about 5 months, my cancellation has finally been completed.

I want to become a member of Gold's Gym Olney, but doing so is such a convoluted process I question if it's worth it. You advertise $0 enrollment, but when I speak to your sales people, you say you cannot give that to me. My sister is currently researching other gyms and workout places for me to go to in Olney that are cheaper and more fun than your place. Not to mention your staff act like they run a scam. Since google doesn't let me attach a link with this review, I've shared the link on my facebook profile to your December $0 enrollment special. You've promised me $0 enrollment and have not delivered.

Everyone is always very nice and helpful. The bathrooms and equipment are always clean. They are open super early during the week and have a day care center that I can leave my kids at while I work out. Which is awesome because I don't always have someone go watch them and i enjoy working out.

Its very nice, clean, and there are plenty of machines. Overall, I had a great experience. Only reason I say four stars is because I had called ahead to see if the studio was free and they said yes when it wasn't. I ended up taking a class, which was good, but not why I had gone specifically to that gym (my closest gym is 20 min away).

FYI, I went to look into a membership, they require you to fill out a "Guest" form at their computer based kiosk. The form requires your Name, address, DoB, e-mail and phone with no indication what they would do with it or if they would sell your info. I told the person at the desk I was not comfortable providing all this info and was told I could not see a membership person, it is their policy. With no other options I walked out. The facility looks nice (from what I could see from the door), it's packed full of people all day.

This is really just a suggestion for Gold's overall - Put up some signage asking members to refrain from resting on any equipment they aren't actively exercising on, especially between sets! It's so easy to step off or away from a machine and tell anyone that approaches that they are welcomed to work sets in with you. That is the lost gym etiquette that was standard before chain gyms took over the landscape.

Great gym. Ceilings are high enough to give an open feeling, but not so high as to be a warehouse. Locker rooms have just been refurbished and are terrific. Huge selection of machines, free weights, the odd-stuff (bosa balls, stretch bands, swiss balls, etc), and classes. Instructors are friendly and knowledgeable. You can either chat with others on the treadmills or wear ear phones with your mp3 and go about your business. I can get into the spin room between classes and ride the spin bikes, which are very nice. A little crowded on Saturday morning and Monday evenings, but I work my schedule around those times. Nice aerobic room with windows, large and open.
I pay a very low fee each month. Parking is adequate, shopping centers are next door for breakfast, lunch and dinner at salad bars. Open during the worst of the snow days. I've been to the other Gold's gyms at locations of Rockville, North Potomac, Arlington, Alexandria, Washington DC, Gaithersburg and Germantown. I like the Olney gym the best.
I'm very, very satisfied with the gym. I recommend it highly.

New bathrooms and a lot for sale in the lobby. I use the spin bikes and rowing machines. The only decent spin bikes are in the classroom and there are classes there almost every day I go. I asked about decent spin bikes in the main room, the ones there are old and don't work well, and was told they would work on it. When I got in yesterday both rowing machines were gone with no explanation. Canceling my membership. It is probably fine if you want to lift weights or use a stair master.

Going to the gym can be a daunting experience. Some of the more common concerns I allowed to stop me from actively using a gym membership include finding the internal motivation to leave my comfortable house and presuming that I have to be "fit" already to go to the gym or risk being the punch line of jokes in the locker room.
If anyone has ever felt like me before, I have good news! Gold's Gym in Olney, MD has been an overwhelmingly positive experience since the day I signed up for a membership. The front desk staff was cheerful and helpful, which set the tone for my overall impression of Gold's in Olney. I was, then, introduced to the general manager, Trisha Nordstrom, who was kind, incredibly knowledgeable, and thorough in her presentation of all Gold's Gym in Olney had to offer a "Law & Order" fan like me. After an impressive tour of this newly renovated, beautiful facility, we sat in her office and I disclosed my concerns. She listened and helped me create a workout plan for myself that was realistic and lessened my anxiety about going to the gym in the first place.
Since then, I've become a "regular" at Gold's Gym in Olney. The cheerful attitude I encounter when checking in at the front desk always starts my gym session off on the right foot. I, then, pass Trisha's office on the way to the locker room and get a friendly hello (or smile if she's with another customer/client). The gym staff responsible for monitoring the equipment and keeping the gym in good condition have been more than willing to sit with me and teach me to use machines and equipment that used to frighten me. As a result of becoming a Gold's Olney member, I can now tell people that I live an "active" lifestyle. If you haven't met the staff at Gold's or seen the beautiful facility yet, take a moment to stop by--you won't regret it!
