I've been a member for 7 years. The staff is amazing here. I drink all the protein shakes and they are a good price. It's next to all the best restaurants. It's a wonderful place to workout. It's the best gym in the area.

Been a member here for 6 months, it has been one of the best gym experiences thus far. Faculty and staff members are always there and very outgoing/helpful! I’ve worked out with Trainer Jacob on multiple occasions, and every meet feels greater than the previous! If I were asked 100 times to pick a gym in the DMV area, I would pick Gold’s Gym at Riverdale every time. I used to workout at LA fitness over at PG Plaza, and I can confirm that this switch was satisfying as they have competitive pricing and competent gym equipment.

My experience has been wonderful since becoming a Gold’s Gym member. The staff are very nice and supportive to my fitness goals. One staff member I want to highlight in particular is Rachel. She is the reason why I joined by providing insightful information about the facility while give me a tour. She has connected me with personal trainers, assisted me with troubleshooting problems with my app, and always makes herself available to answer any questions I may have. This is a very positive and family oriented environment. Highly recommended!!!

I’ve been attending this gym for about 3 months now and the staff have been exquisite. I feel a true gym community here and the people are very friendly. The bathrooms and locker rooms are very clean. Everyone seems to wipe up after their usage of the machines and there is a good selection of machines for any day you could need. ALSO TONI’s yoga class is amazing. Excited to try the hip hop class on Tuesdays.

I had an incredible experience at Gold’s Gym. The facility is clean, well-equipped, and has everything you need for a solid workout. But the real highlight was the assistance I received from Charlotte. She went above and beyond—super knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely invested in helping me improve. It has ample equipment compared to other gyms I have been to. It has everything you need to get a good workout in. Great parking, very close and you don’t have to pay. Staff is so friendly especially Charlotte and Rachel! My sister recommended me here and I am very happy she did.

First I just want to say the customer service was amazing. The equipment worked just fine. There was plenty of staff keeping the place clean which was great. However, there was extremely long wait times for equipment. It was hot, musty, and overcrowded in the gym most days I went. I thought there would be an opportunity for socializing and meeting new people here. Not really. Everyone is doing their own thing. The only reason I kept going to this gym is to workout alongside one of the ladies. But that only goes so far. I actually need to get my sets done. I am giving 2 stars because again, the customer service was amazing. However, my gym session lasted too long because of the long wait times. Way too overcrowded though

Not 24/7- actually pretty bad hours for those that work other shifts or have a busy life. Cramped. Overly small. Dedicates a good 1/2 of the gym to space for classes that are seldom attended and then sits vacant the rest of the time (and also roped off to members even when classes aren’t in session). Poor, subpar quality equipment. Very obnoxious clientele (people who sit on the deadlift platform to chat and do not actually lift, obscene clothing, etc). It’s not bad to the point I’d say it sucks, but everything about this gym seems purposefully mediocre.

awful customer service at 3 PM today. hung up on me twice while not waiting to hear if I can be on hold before disconnecting. Got the gold package for my son and the pricing and access is complicated and unnecessary. If you pay for a gold package it should include any gym. Pricing fees show a lack of uniformity 16 dollars bi-weekly is ridicules. $30 a month. why are we restricted to 6 gyms in a two hour radius vs. 15 in a different radius. Very disappointing.

If your goal is to lose weight or focus on cardio, this gym might be a good fit for you. But if you’re more into strength training or powerlifting, I recommend looking elsewhere.
The gym isn’t very large, and there’s only one leg extension machine (Literally! Just ONE). The squat racks are also limited, which means you’ll often have to wait. I’ve been a member for over three months, and almost every visit I’ve had to patiently wait to use the leg extension or a rack.
Today, I decided to go early hoping it would be less crowded. Even though it wasn’t busy, the few people there were already using the leg extension and squat racks. That was my last straw. I’ve decided to switch to a bigger gym.
In short, if you’re serious about powerlifting or lower-body strength training, this isn’t the place for you. But if your focus is on cardio, with more than 20 treadmills available, this gym might be perfect.

However, I’m appalled and upset with management. For the cost of membership- machines are always broken. The cleanliness of the gym is lacking. Only see the cleaning crew.. clean the locker rooms only. For our safety- Two people should be attending the front desk at all times. ( to relieve the other worker for bathroom breaks and supplies). A horrific incident happened 8/21. I didn’t hear anything from management until six days later. ( The staff was helpful and willing to go the extra mile to assist and check to see if I was ok; but management NO. I’m appalled and disappointed.The lack of empathy is very unsettling from Rachel. Management MUST DO BETTER!!! For the protection of their members. machines need to be fixed and cleanliness of the gym needs to be a priority ASAP.

HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT: August 21, 2025 - a NON MEMBER went on to the gym floor and m*sturbated by the stairmasters behind the men and women using the equipment. A gym-goer reported the incident to staff onsite and nothing was done for 2 HOURS. The man walked around using equipment with a towel wrapped around his waist for 2 HOURS. Management is very reluctant to do anything to resolve this!

This company is very predatory and will refuse to cancel your membership even if you don’t owe money they will force you to pay for a extra 2 months to cancel I used to pay every month when I signed up then out of nowhere with out my permission or acknowledgment they switched the payments to every 2 weeks and raised my membership cost this gym is nothing special what’s worse is your not allowed to use all the spaces or equipment available in the gym now I’m getting bothered everyday by debt collectors for money I do not owe they make is impossible and bothersome to cancel took multiple tries I finally went in person and canceled my membership with the manager in her office face to face and they still sent my info to debt collectors with threats if I don’t pay had to report them to the BBB please take this warning seriously and AVOID THIS GYM AT ALL COST!!!

"Terrible cancellation experience and unfair billing"
I tried multiple times to cancel my Gold’s Gym membership, but no one helped me. I stopped payments, then they kept charging me $40 weekly for three months. When I refused to pay the balance, they sent it to collections—and the collection company wouldn’t even hear me out. This whole process has been stressful and unfair. I wouldn’t recommend this gym to anyone is very expensive and unless they improve their customer service and cancellation process.

This gym would RULE if everything wasnt broken all the time. At any given time in the men's locker room, 1 of 4 sinks will be broken, at least 1 if not 2 of 3 urinals will be broken, 1 of 3 stalls will be broken, and the sauna will be down. I have never seen every piece of equipment in the gym functional at the same time. They really need to do 2 things: replace all the old equipment, and monitor the floors regularly to stop the people who don't respect the equipment and don't use it properly. I know they have the money to do this. It is not a secret that this is the highest membership Golds in the DC area. Use that money and maintain your equipment. It's not that hard.
And while you're at it, fix the AC. It's 90 degrees and humid in DC, you walk inside this Gold's, and it's even more humid than it is outside, and there's no air movement at all. You can barely breathe in here. This is what the sauna should feel like, not the gym.

For the amount you pay, quality is pretty sub par. For whatever reason, this gym seems to have only one of each equipment, and 9 out of 10 times, said equipment is broken. For example, there is only 1 leg extension machine. For the month of May, this machine has been broken for the last 2 weeks, and no idea when it will be fixed. As you can imagine, it was also out of service for weeks in April, March, Feb etc. Stair master machine only has 2 functional at any given time (of the 6 machines, 4 are out of service). This is a pretty popular cardio machine, which means you have to wait for a line up of people to be done before you can continue your work out, seriously you literally have to wait in line to get on a stairmaster, I kid you not. Finally, they nickel and dime their clients. You need to pay an additional fee to be able to get a towel. What gym requires an additional fee to get towels? Either you offer towels or you do not. This gym makes absolutely no sense and is not worth your time.

I've been a member here since they opened back in March of 2017. Overall I've been satisfied with my experience at this gym. The morning front desk staff are fantastic and have always been welcoming. Ricky, Abby, and Lexi are just A+++. Ms Rachel especially has been great to interact with. Always positive, welcoming and encouraging. If I run into issues she does her best to accommodate the requests. One of my favorite things besides lifting here, has been the GGX classes, specifically Zumba. Thea, the instructor has been a welcomed addition and she is just high intensity and the class is just fun. Give the gym a try with a day pass.

*Update 04/2025: They tried to break contract and get additional payments from me. Luckily I know my rights and contract verbiage - scummy.
It's okay, fee structure is a little predatory and their hours are too short. They need to extend their evening hours by just a bit.
Their process seems to have some back-end issues, maybe hire an IT consultant to improve it a bit.
Front desk is nice...manager isn't so bad. Just kind of a towel nazi.

I and my family had 4 Silver memberships at this location and we only used it 2 times a week so every time we tried to cancel the membership the manager was never available, so one time my daughter brought a guest because you can bring one guest per membership and the manager was there this time and she was like ID and my daughter's friend said I didn't bring my wallet, the manager said you can't come in and I ask are you the manager she proudly responds yes then I said well now we can finally cancel out 5 membership, with an arrogant smile she replies I can do that.

Since I've been reading reviews about membership cancellation issues, here's my experience from about 3 years back:
This used to be my go to gym when I was in College Park. Everything here was great - equipments, the locker rooms, and the staff.
The crowd had groups of equipment hoggers, but I don't think the staff is to be blamed.
However, when I moved to a different, I dropped in a filled a cancellation form. And as per policy, a manager handled the process. I filled the form and confirmed that there was nothing else for me to do, as I was gonna move out of state in 2 days.
Six months later, I noticed that they had started charging my account again. On calling the customer service, it turned out that they had put me in pause instead of cancelling. THEY DID NOT HAVE MY CANCELLATION REQUEST. And I was also charged some additional cancellation fee that was not mentioned ro me during the beginning.
Definitely my fault for trusting people to do THEIR JOBS correctly.

I would avoid this gym. You cannot change your membership without cancelling your current membership and signing up for a new one which makes you pay the activation fee again. They don't tell you this when you are signing up. With all the other gyms around this neighborhood you'd be better off joining one of those instead.
I have had an issue with the app. Ever since they changed my membership from silver to platinum I cannot log in. I have been through several emails with their tech person and I have brought this to the managers attention. It's going on 3 weeks now and I cannot schedule PT time without having to do it in person or calling them up.
I asked them to put a hold on my PT payments while we sort out the app issues and they told me not only do I have to do that in person but I need to give them 2 weeks to activate that hold (meaning I will be charged again). This was another piece of information that would have been good to know when I signed up for the training sessions.
The one positive thing I have to say is their trainer Duriel Chandler is easily the best trainer I have ever worked with. If he ever started his own gym I would join in a heartbeat. I wish I could take him with me.

I love this Gold’s gym! This is my first gym membership and it’s been a fun experience so far. Their machines are great and they have 2 specifically for booty building. The staff is so nice and they always chat with me when I come in. I had a free personal training session that went really well, I learned new workouts that I didn’t know before. I visited the Crunch down the street with a friend and I definitely think Golds is better, especially when it comes to cleanliness.

The Golds Gym (Riverdale) location has been nothing but amazing. Good experience from top to bottom. You can get a good lifting session or cardio session with no issues or disturbances. Staff is very helpful and encouraging and the cleaning services keeps all equipment and grounds clean and accessible. Even seen the GM out there picking up weights and cleaning which speaks volumes. So far no complaints. Recommended to my friends and athletes who took advantage of membership here.

My wife and I love Riverdale Park Golds. The primary draw is the Kids Club, which is perfect for the many families in the surrounding community. We would love to see it open on Sundays, but are grateful to have it Mon-Saturday. The loss of Kids Club would almost certainly result in many being forced to drop their membership.

I really like this Gold’s because it’s rarely ever packed and the people (that work there and work out there) are pretty nice. I’ve been there for about a month or so now. My biggest complaint is that the sauna is not hot enough at all. Please turn it up a few degrees!
Other than that, equipment is pretty new and they fix machines pretty fast if they break. 8.5/10 :)

My sister just moved to this area and I was so excited when she said they had a golds gym near by I go to my local golds gym and I love it I’ve also been to different ones all around the DC metro area and never had an experience like I did when I walked into this one. First off the girl who we first met was very nice but the manager came out and was so rude. She rudely explained how my sister had to pay because she couldn’t use the free guest pass for that one day to check out if this gym is worth coming to. I’ve been to plenty golds and they always let me try it out because signing up. I have a membership and we were with my other sister so I said I can bring my other sister as a guest and my other sister use the guest pass. She rudely declined my sister just moved to the area and was so excited about joining this gym but this was beyond a horrible experience. Honestly I won’t ever step foot in there because it’s so close to where my sisters moved my one sister went ahead and got a membership but if it was me I wouldn’t have. Customer service is everything in a gym I have also worked in n 3 different gyms I would never treat a want to be member this way. Ever. Honestly I would find another golds gym in the area a lot of them are great. Won’t be returning.

Management refuses to cancel my membership — despite being able to do so.
I have no doubt this is retaliation based on my below review — shared with owners with no response to date

After the manager created a hostile and menacing environment,
- Golds refuses to cancel my membership immediately
- Keeps billing me despite 3 attempts to cancel and never return
Please tell me this is illegal?
Who can I write for formal action
* against the hostile targeting
* Golds predatory billing, and
* Unethical business practices
Since Sept 28th,
3x Golds Riverdale refused to cancel my membership
- first demanding I visit in person
- then demanding my return when a manager was on duty Mon-Fri
- then demanding a 3rd return 10am-5pm ET during the week
On Sep 25th
The same manager created a hostile environment while I worked out with a friend — who she previously targeted for stealing: sending an employee to chase my friend down a flight of stairs for stolen merchandise … which was his own water bottle. 😳
Within 20 minutes of our workout,
- The manager and another woman approached us in the open exercise area
- expressed they were watching us for some time
- demanded we end the workout together because he was instructing me on my movements
Which I’d asked him to do following months of not working out during treatment for PTSD/severe anxiety and the recent death of my brother.
The incident left me completely confused, and triggered — having been publicly admonished and humiliated. And told we couldn’t conclude our workout.
Unsure if repeat policing is a result of:
Race — Black
His build — Athletic
To admittedly target us, and stage a public confrontation was unsettling.

I demanded a reasonable alternative to cancel having exhausted all options
- Gold’s Riverdale provided a previously undisclosed number to cancel🤔
ABC Fitness setup a pending cancelation for 1 month + payment of dues:
*Disregarding menacing, hostile and policing acts by management;
*Disregarding my expressed disinterest in visiting Golds ever again;
*Disregarding exhaustive efforts since Sep 28th to cancel my membership;
and refusals by Golds Riverdale to disclose phone cancelation options— on 3 separate occasions since Sep 28.
How disheartening, and disturbing from a global HEALTH brand.

I had no issues with this place till I wanted to cancel my membership. They force you to come in person to cancel during hours that the manager is there. They also put in a 30 day notification policy so I still need to pay out an extra month. Both of these issues feel gimmicky and tacky add ons to keep customers and squeeze extra money out of them.

I’ve had a terrible experience at Gold’s Gym in Riverdale, MD. The customer service is absolutely awful, especially dealing with Rachel Hunter. She’s not helpful at all and seems uninterested in resolving any issues. Her attitude is rude, and she makes the entire experience unpleasant. It’s disappointing to see such poor service at a gym I had high hopes for. I wouldn’t recommend this location if you value good customer service. Looking at other reviews it seems this is a common trend.

I was a member of Golds Gym Riverdale Park for two years. Of all the gyms in the DMV area, I would avoid this one at all costs. While they have good equipment, Golds Gym has unethical billing practices and Rachel Hunter who handles billing has no ability to help members. It’s really unfortunate how little they care about their loyal members. It’s worth it to find another gym that can help you even if they are more expensive.

I've been to many Gold's Gyms all over the world, and I especially enjoy coming to this location. The front desk, staff, and personal trainers are extremely friendly, and they know me by my name. The manager, Rachael, listens to any complaints and tries to address them promptly. She's helped me out many times with my billing statements for my annual fitness reimbursements through my work! The machines and free weights are adequate for both regular and powerlifting exercises, plenty of cardio equipments and stretching areas. I wished they'd add more leg raises, hamstring/leg curls, and triceps press machines because of their overwhelming popularity. The men's room is clean, the towel service is immaculate, and the sauna is hot! Despite the drive being 30 minutes each way, I work-out here because of the plethora and availability of the necessary equipment. This is a very family-friendly gym!

Recently, Gold's renewed my membership for a whopping $80 feom what I can tell. When checking out my statements I noticed that Gold's has been charging my card an additional $25. I never signed up for, nor was I told about an additional fee & I have no idea what it is for. I will be closing my membership at Gold's and going somewhere else.

Used to be one of my favorite workout places, but not anymore. It’s like the gym has turned more in to a production studio than a place to workout. People hog equipment so they can record videos of their workouts. So rude and inconsiderate, especially for those who just want to focus on working out. The staff does nothing about it. I also reported to one of the managers about the clock being out in the woman’s locker room. It’s been out for nearly a year and no one has bothered fixing it. What a mess this gym has become.

They have only 1 leg press to lift legs for the quads when it breaks like right now it isn’t a quick fix been about 2 weeks now and having only one isn’t okay especially when one breaks . Also as of rn 12/02/2023 the torso rotation machine for core is not working for more then 2 weeks .

I wouldn’t recommend this gym anymore since Rachel has become the manager. There have been multiple occasions where she treats members with a lack of respect. Most recently, I was accused of stealing something out the fridge on my way out, (mind you I spend more money than my membership fee on these drinks throughout the course of a month). Walking down the stairs with only my water bottle, an employee comes to accuse me of stealing something, Rachel sees the whole thing and does nothing and I was also informed she was the one who told employee to go after me. Pretty embarrassing situation to say the least and discriminating. I reached out to higher management and regional directors and they are taking the situation very lightly not trying to fix it at all. Like I said, there have been other occasions as well. Aside from that, the facility itself and equipment is nice, I’ve been coming here since it opened. The front desk staff aside from them is actually very welcoming and friendly. Also, like a lot of the other reviews stated, there can be numerous unauthorized charges. Crunch up the street pretty much has everything this gym has and management there is a lot more friendly. I have memberships at both.

Careful with possible scam. I am a member more than a year and recently I installed their new application that also allows to look on the payment history. Using this app I found that in addition to my membership plan I am paying additional $25 bi-weekly and don’t know about it. I came to the staff and they confirmed that I was registered only for gym membership and suggested that it is some mistake of application. Then when I checked my bank statement I found that I overpaid over $500 by the year. I came to the manager with this information and he informed me that somehow I was registered also to some studio classes about which I never heard.
Apparently they can hide in registration form additional services about which you don’t know, but have to pay. I signed only for $25 bi-weekly membership and get additional studio about which existence I had no idea and as a result I overpaid over $500 for the year.
When I spoke with manager about cancelation he informed me that I have to pay for additional month to cancel the service ABOUT WHICH I WAS NOT INFORMED PROPERLY instead of refund. This is real scam.

This is by far the worst gym I have been to. Not because of the equipment, but simply because of the customer service. All of the staff was great except for the manager. She was rude and dismissive and did not try to rectify the issue in an adequate manner. I have now canceled my membership and I am leaving this information to their franchise manager. The manager there was unhelpful in its entirety. I was signed into the program and was completely unaware. I was informed that there was a trial and that is it. However, it has come to my attention that even if there is no use, I have to cancel. Thus resulting in a 200 dollar charge. They sent no receipt, invoice, or any notification that there was money owed. I was then informed by a third party that there was a bill. This manager ruined my entire experience and I’ve been to several gyms with no issue what do ever. If I could give 0 stars I would.

3 stars because the gym itself is nice, it was brand new when I first started going, parking was easy, etc. On the other hand, I got a free body scan when joining and the guy doing it had no clue how it worked and the scan was useless (the manual was online and confirmed half the things I was told weren’t correct), but cancelling when I moved was a pain and just in the last month or two (I haven’t lived there in 3.5 years, they’ve decided I should be on their spam texts out of nowhere. We broke up, long distance isn’t going to work, let it go.

Worst customer service ever. I wish I had brought a lawyer with me when I signed up because there are so many caveats I wasn’t aware of until I attempted to cancel my membership. At one point I didn’t have a job and couldn’t afford all the fees because the late fee is about the same price as the payment. I tried contacting them many times to discuss cancelation but I didn’t realize the fees to cancel are over $100 plus 2 additional payments. I couldn’t afford to cancel. It wasn’t until after many run arounds from the manager that she offered to freeze my account for a few months. I am appalled that I explained my financial situation to them and received no sympathy based on the fact it took her so long to offer to freeze my account (which I didn’t even know was an option). I received no email letting me know when my account would be unfrozen and zero warning once it unfroze and they charged me ( I even searched for the email to be sure). When I tried to call and cancel they told me it cannot be done over the phone and I would have to come into the facility. I said I will be right over but the person I was speaking with said it’s not possible at the moment because I have to come in M-F between 9-5 to do a cancellation. This was upsetting because I would have to take off work just to go to your facility and pay over $200 to cancel my membership. This place is a scam. They say anything you want to hear just to close a sale. Just horrible.

A gym's value is in my opinion based on results, In July of 2021 I was 205 pounds, had high blood pressure and low blood oxygen. I came to Golds to prepare myself for an amateur boxing career. In November 2022 my training at golds made it possible to join a gym that trains only fighters. I have become a masters division boxer. That's right, Gold's prepared a 68 year old super middleweight fighter. At 171 pounds, I lost an estimated 40 pounds of fat gained 11 pounds of muscle and put legs on like a soccer forward. I am registered to fight in a national tournament in September. The pictures are before and after. Way to go Golds

I've had a bad experience with this location. When I joined, I was told my membership had the Southern MD, DC and Norther VA locations. Not true. Just found that the Bowie and Capitol Heigths ( Ritchie Marlboro Road) are not included. These are franchise locations. This is not post, nor is it communicated.
I was told that I had the towel service. After going and receiving a towel for 4 months, the front desk attendant said I didn't have it.
Be careful when join the location. The staff does not communicate accurately, and then customer service gives the run-around.

Beware before signing up with this gym. If you’re already signed up, constantly check your statements. The facility itself is nice but it is very difficult to cancel membership. You have to continually check charges, as they will charge you for unauthorized purchases. I was given a 30 day free trial for the studio classes. Prior to the 30 days, I told a gym staff member I wanted to cancel before the free trial was up. The staff member said okay, but Gold’s continued/ continue to charge me for this. Froze my personal training, that was continually charged as well. Not much help from management when I reported all of this scam behavior. Cancelling my membership all together now. Back after 7 months at another gym so I was excited to be back until my credit card got heavily over charged from an action to a worker there at gold's requested me to do upon renewing my year membership. The charges came out of my bank account just 48 hour's after my first day which was very suspicious after I was told I wouldn't be charged my first payment until a week and a few days. They acted very nonchalant about the situation an told me after 4 day's of them so called trying to figure out why the money came out extremely fast. They then told me I would have my money back 7 to 10 days and after 10 days they started talking more money out my account for my bi-weekly charge. After calling them back and getting the run around for another 5 days, I was then told again I would have my money put back in my account 7 to 10 days again. They're acting like it's not a big deal they took for me so I'm now REGRETTING EVER GOING BACK TO GOLDS GYM. After reading other reviews I see that there accounting department is known for ripping people off.

Save yourself, they will keep charging you months after cancellation and even though they acknowledge that you cancel your membership: THEY WILL KEEP CHARGING YOU.
I have had a membership at many different gyms and TRUST ME, go to a different location this one is not worth the frustration when it comes time to cancel. Not to mention they jack up charges randomly without informing you. The lady’s name is Rachel, she has no morals and will scam you.
I never leave bad reviews, but I guess there is a first time for everything.
