This place recently hosted a men's gymnastics competition for college and secondary school children. When our kids competed on a Saturday evening, there was no heat on in the building. Nearly all spectators had their coats, hats, and gloves on throughout the competition. Coaches and athletes were also wearing jackets and gloves between their warmups and routines during competition.
Our competition began at 5:30pm. Admission was $15 for adults. There was no food, snacks, or drinks for sale throughout the evening. There was not even a public water fountain!!! How are athletes and supporters supposed to endure these conditions? This is embarrassing.
The competition ended at 9:30pm and awards concluded within another 30 minutes.
Parking for this competition is off-site, unless you have military identification. West Point at least allows visitors to park on campus... so does the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. At this location, they would rather have you walk in freezing cold temperatures to the closest parking garage (about 15 minutes away) through ice, snow, and slippery streets and sidewalks. Ridiculous!!!
I will never again support this meet, the Naval Academy, or any of its programs. I have been disappointed multiple times visiting this location. It's just sad.
