Save yourself some time and money by going to the Y or another swim school. This the place is a joke, 50% of the allotted time the kids spent on the step with their feet in the water, and the other 50% is spent with the kids doing whatever they want to without supervision. I nervously watched my non swimmer make several attempts to dive and at no time was the instructor aware. Her back was turned to them most of the time and the few seconds she looked at them was to splash them with water. After this first and scary session, I called and complained plus told them I would not be returning, nevertheless, they went ahead and charged my credit card for the entire previously booked classes. This is an unsafe place and the licensing authority should pay them a visit unknowingly and assess the classes.

This swim school continues to be an incredible pillar within our community. Despite the recent changes in staffing, I am impressed by the staff's professionalism, their relationships with families, and commitment to ensuring a safe environment. Lastly, I am excited by the new manager, as she has been attentive and makes us feel welcomed (sorry, I can't recall her name at the moment).

Horrible communication. I signed my son up for swim lessons in June and paid in advance. We decided to not continue because the place is unorganized. I saw that they charged my card for $104. I called to see why they charged it and they said it was for swim lessons for August. We didn’t sign up for those but apparently they continue to charge you until you submit a form to cancel. When we initially signed up we were not informed of this. Now they have to send my account to corporate and they say it will take two weeks to hear back. That’s insane. Save yourself the trouble and find another school.

Update: so I reached out as they requested in their response to me and I have not heard back. It seems as if they only pretend to care about this concern so they don’t look bad to potential customers. I would appreciate a response and a refund.

I was a little put off by the lack of friendliness at the entrance but our instructor Mrs Eileen is the best!!! Honestly she gets 10/10 stars. She is friendly, personable, helpful and great with the kids. We did a session here previously and I would have given 2 stars after that. The teachers were not consistent and just kinda going through the motions like they didn’t care at all. Overall, the staff is hit or miss. I really just wanted to give a shoutout to Mrs Eileen. She deserves a raise!

Our experience here last summer started out fine. By January 2025, things started going downhill. The instructors weren’t consistent, no one ever answered the phone, and people weren’t friendly. My daughter stayed in level 3 for months and months and then I got told that she’d do better in a private lesson. Um, no, she’d do better with more consistent and better instruction. I put in 30 days notice and immediately withdrew her when the month was up. I plan to enroll my daughter in a different swim school. Don’t send your kids to Kids First unless you want to deal with nothing but hassle.

This place is so unorganized. The manager is never there on weekends or doesn’t call you back. I was told when signing up by an employee they were open on Easter . We signed up for Sundays. If they weren’t open on Easter I would have waited for next session. Then on top of that something happened where they had to cancel another Sunday. Was told there would be a credit for next session. I have 2 kids in class. Everytime I try to ask a question upfront the girl gets an attitude because she doesn’t understand what I’m asking. This whole month was a waste now since we only did 2 classes and they aren’t going to pass to next level. I don’t even want to continue to next month now but I get a credit can’t even get my money back for the missed class. The last class is a waste bc they take 10 min of the session to go over evaluation and then start late because the they are doing evaluation from the class before. A half hour is not enough time for the price. I also showed up for 2 of the Sundays and they were closed without knowing, one was Easter and the issue they had . Some of the teachers aren’t that great either.

Thought I would share my positive experience since unfortunately, I see so many negative reviews. Kids First has been wonderful to me and my family. The management has been very helpful in all of my schedule changes from month to month with a hectic work schedule. When my child moved up, the manager contact me to find a day/time that worked for my schedule, even remembering small details of scheduling requests. In this day and age, that customer service can't be found elsewhere. I have enjoyed the interactions with the front desk staff and the swim instructors. Overall, amazing experience and I would highly recommend their swim program.

The staff working could do much better Job, the management sucks and they don’t care about coordinating schedule, communicating and responding a phone.
My son passed a class, all the class are full and the front end person saying he will be in the same class despite I reminded her many times that he passed and need new class. The classes are not updated after kids pass their level and it shows the old classes.

They change the system to charge more and they become worsen . They change the instructor 3 times in a month.

The management need to look at their processes. Happy to provide additional feedback if they are interested

Negative 5 Stars – Homeschoolers Beware!

I regret not heeding the warning from another homeschool mom who removed her children from this program years ago. Hoping things had improved, I decided to give it a try—but I was completely wrong.

From the start, the experience was disappointing. The front desk attendant did not greet us and only gave a lackluster tour, pointing at areas without much explanation. The advertised “social time for homeschoolers” before lessons was nonexistent—a blatant lie. Parents in the waiting area were distant, and the children in my son’s class were much younger, leaving no room for meaningful social interaction or friendships. The instructor made no effort to foster connections, either.

The facility is somewhat clean but outdated and in desperate need of upgrades. After just two lessons, my son had had enough. He wasn’t learning much, wasn’t making friends, and felt out of place in a class with kids four years his junior. We decided to leave and were relieved to no longer deal with the unpleasant front desk staff.

Unfortunately, the nightmare didn’t end there. Weeks later, I discovered an unauthorized charge on my credit card. Upon calling to address the issue, I learned this company keeps your card on file and continues billing like a gym membership—even if you stop attending. This crucial detail is buried in fine print and obscure signs. The front desk employee rudely told me I should have read every posted notice instead of trusting them to be transparent. She refused a refund and directed me to email a "higher-up" who conveniently has no phone number.

This business preys on homeschool families with false promises and shady billing practices. I wouldn’t recommend this swim school to anyone. Save your time, money, and frustration. This establishment deserves to be shut down. Buyers beware!

I experienced the mommy and me back in 2020 and both of my kids started level one this summer. I really enjoyed their coach Evan and the group was small. Although they sit on the steps they are exploring water and he did a great job balancing out time with each of the kids. We signed them up for another session 😀

I give 3 stars only for the swim lessons my daughter received. They were good despite her missing one class the last day because she wasn’t feeling well which we never received a call back to reschedule . I would give Zero stars because my daughter had a party here I felt like the whole party was rushed! They only give 15 mins for set up . I came in to check in about 3:30pm front desk lady told me to give her 5 to 10 mins to clean up. Also when we first arrived the 1:30pm party were still leaving , there were no paper towels in the bathroom we had to ask for some and the trash was full inside the bathroom from the previous party. Also some of the seats in the party room were still wet. I don’t think the party time is enough time (2hrs) . It should have at least been three to four hours, with at least 30 minutes to set up. My guess only got to swim for about 30 minutes, including the birthday girl. The staff seem so unbothered during her party , like they were in a rush or something. Only thing they kept coming in to say was kids needed to hurry up to get the pool time in because after 5 that’s it and to here the pool rules. I was told it would be three tables, but it was only two. Thank goodness i brought a small table for my cake. It wasn’t enough chairs for my guess, the parents were standing around eating . I had to go get some of the chairs out of the pool room, which still wasn’t enough then I had to go to the front desk and ask for more chairs. she just set them in a stack on the side and immediately left the room like she was late for something. I feel like I wasted $400 to have my party here. I will never have another party here ever again.

This place is very unorganized. They don’t start on time. A complete different change in pace from when I attended the mommy and me class two years ago. Maybe it’s the different staff members. We didn’t even receive the full 30 minutes for the kids to swim. The instructor seemed incompetent. She squirted my kid with the rubber duckie bc he was throwing the toy in the water and swimming after it. She said don’t throw and squirted him. Like he was some type of animal. It was during the time she let the kids have independent play. He never threw it at anyone. She hardly paid attention to the little ones. I pretty much stayed close to make sure my 3 yr old didn’t drown. Evan was a rude. I complained to him about the length of the class (starting late and ending early). The list goes on. Very disappointed with this experience. He told me it was a lot of exceptions being made for me. He said normally people start when class begins not towards the end. I started at that time because his coworker suggested I start right away. I figured it was good idea bc he could get extra classes. The person who reached out to me told me I could start early with a proration of fees, which was fine. I planned on putting him in the very next session but don’t plan on it anymore. I will look elsewhere. If you are reading this post and considering going to this location, I would reconsider. He said Heidi will call me. We shall see.

Great swim experience for my granddaughter. What I don't like is classes do not start on time. Start time is scheduled on rhe half hour, but it actually starts 5 to 10 minutes later. I asked why and was told they wait for late parents. Nor fair to the parents that get their on time!

My daughter did the mommy and me course twice and didn't learn anything. I didn't feel like the instructors were very indulged with the children. The instructors I've had, both have been very young and didn't really seem to know what to do with several kids crying or understanding of what to do. I also received several weird stares when my child was having some behavioral issues because we could barely hear the instructor as multiple kids were crying, which as a mom you know can be very frustrating when someone keeps giving you looks. I decided in the moment, the best thing for me as a mom and the mature adult was to exit the class in the middle of the class and I never went back. I will not recommend this place to anyone in Perry Hall. I was sad to go because as I stated this was my daughters 2nd time doing the sessions and I live 5 minutes down the road, but it's not worth the money or the frustration. This place has under 4 stars so that's the 1st red flag to parents! Take heed!

Extremely inconsistent with instructors, even when you pay for private lessons it's all just splashing around playing in water... plus the building is falling apart. Good instructors never stick around here! The place always loses instructors and will 100% cancel class on you, it happens all the time. We called many many times about rescheduling and never got any call backs, the classes, or our money back. Actual swimming lessons aside, if your cool with throwing away money on this place, don't even bother expecting this them to be on top of changing a dead light bulb or anything else that's broken. The bathrooms literally have lights and wires hanging off the walls. We kept throwing away our money here steady for a few years because they are close, but more and more all signs point to the fact that they just don't care about anything. My 4 and 6 year old boys this summer honestly learned more from one pool party, and my 7 year old niece that has had proper lessons elsewhere.

Thus far we've had 2 sessions as adult learners, hubby & I. Our instructor asked us what did we want her to teach us iur very 1st day. Of course, that was a red flag for me. Today, she shared that this is the 1st time as an instructor & never taught adults. I am disappointed thus far, but trying to hang in there for the next 4 lessons left. I am not confident with her and especially bcuz she's very young & an inexperienced instructor.

Do not waste your money here.
My son went here for 12 weeks and the only thing he learned was how to play with toy boats in the water.
For 6 weeks we paid $300+ for one on one lessons and all that was playing in the water.I’m not kidding. At first we thought they were just trying to get him comfortable in the water, but then we learned there was no structure or curriculum….there are different instructors regularly so there’s no continuity. Even when the same instructor is there back to back, nothing is accomplished because there’s no curriculum.

Our son is now in another swim school and it’s nice to see him actually learn how to swim!

Reading some of these reviews make me chuckle a little bit given the nature of what this service is supposed to be providing. Yes, the swim school is a bit out dated, would it benefit from new carpet or new paint? Sure. But that’s not what I’m paying for. I’m paying for a skill being taught to my daughter that could save her life some day. Not for the carpet, old changing rooms, or old paint. It’s ironic to complain about a swim school being dingy when you’re paying for your child to learn how to swim just to take them to the beach in the summer or water park where both environments could be a lot dirtier. The instructors have been GREAT. And, I see my daughter making improvements almost every session. Yes, there have been delays with being able to reach someone on the phone but from what I’ve seen, that’s usually because the staff that’s responsible for billing or schedules sometimes are also the instructors. I never see these people take breaks or have several days off. I think people need to understand that “hiring more staff” isn’t as simple as just hopping on indeed. You need CERTIFIED swim coaches and teachers, that’s not the same as a young person hopping on a register at Chick Fil A down the street. Those quality employees will always be hard to come by since the average person doesn’t have certificates in swimming or swim coaching.

We have been going to Kids First Perry Hall for a year for both of our children (currently 5.5 and 2 years old). While the facility could use a bit of updating, the instruction is invaluable and the staff is absolutely amazing. A few years ago I worked actively as a lifeguard and also taught swimming lessons. We have also gone to two other facilities for swimming lessons. I greatly believe that the curriculum taught in this program is far superior than ANY other program I have observed or taught. My kids have had many different teachers and for the most part, they have all been great. Ms. Emily and Ms. Nancy are definitely their favorites, however Ms. Jasmine and Ms. Alina are up there on the list too!

My oldest was scared to death of the water when she first started. Through there wonderful program she has gone from Level 1 through Level 4. She no longer fears the water, has respect for the water and can swim to safety if need be. She now takes the homeschool class and is progressing well.

My youngest started the Mommy and Me class a couple of months ago and is progressing nicely. We just recently invested in the Private Lessons because we are amazed how helpful the teachers are and how quickly the kids learn water safety and invaluable skills (and have loads of fun!). When I say invest, I mean it. The privates are not cheap but they are definitely worth it. Watching a 2 year old jump in, kick to the top and roll to their back is definitely a comfort for this Mama :)

My now 3 year has been attending this locating since she was 8 months old. Her older sister has been working at this location since August. We were just recently informed that there was a family discount. When we inquired about the discount(after recently paying for 3 sessions) we were told that we could not receive the discount because the transaction has already taken place. When my mother asked for the number of a supervisor, the manager initially told her that there was no one to contact. When my mother wouldn't accept that answer, she was told by the manager that if my mother contacted the supervisor that no one would likely contact her back. She then proceeded to discuss my oldest daughter's work performance in the main lobby in front of customers and other staff! The manager is rude and has made my oldest daughter's first job experience a horrible one. Now I see why my daughter wants to quit.

This place would be great except its ran by a bunch of grumpy teenage girls who have a low tolerance for young children. my 5 year old hates this place because they are not at all patient with him and are rude. At the end of his first class he said to me mommy she was mad at me and just kept telling me I was doing it all wrong. I really don't think she knew it was his first class but she was clearly irritated with him from the start. we have been 3 times so far and all the staff iv encountered have been teenagers except for one instructor who I was told everyone try's to request.

Had great experience at this place. Just finished our first session and it was the best thing we did this summer. My 4 year old had a wonderful time and improved so much. I can't believe the progress for just $100. She didn't pass level one but she's so much more confident.
The place is clean and the staff are young but very friendly. They are definitely willing to talk about the program with you in detail if your a mom like me. I like to know every single detail of what's going on and why. On several occasions i talked with a woman who i'm guessing was the manager and she went beyond by printing me out all sorts of stuff i was able to take with me to work on at family swim.
My little girl is all set for the next session. I definitely recommend bringing your kids here.

Unfortunately the Perry Hall kids first swim's evening staff are rude to the evening adult aerobic group. They often turn lights off in the dressing rooms to keep the customers from delaying them from leaving by letting us change. Also, they have started turning off the lights in the pool area with customers still in there drying off or showering. When they are told we are still in there, they still don't turn the lights back on. The evening staff are loud during our class and when our instructor asks them to lower their voices, they get louder. They are very disrespectful to their adult evening customers.!!!! Many of us are writing the owner about the issue, it is that bad.

A friend recommended Kids First so I enrolled my two children aged 5 and 3.

I was very pleased that Kids First's instructors were able to help my three year old overcome some fears and get her comfortable in the water.

However, I was disappointed that my five year old learned nothing new. After a few lessons I asked to have my five year old moved up to the next class so that she could learn to incorporate her arms into swimming. I was told that since she had mastered all but one skill. Apparently her kicks were too weak and Kids First won't advance kids to the next level if they haven't mastered every skill. Now, I am a former competitive swimmer, lifeguard and swim instructor with a weak kick. I disagreed but held my tongue. In retrospect I wish I had demanded that she be moved up. I understand that Kids First's methodology is rigid and that it works. But knowing that I've been a champion swimmer with a weak kick made me question the methodology. When the school called to ask us to re-enroll I explained why we would not. At that time I was told my daughter could move to the next level despite not having mastered a strong kick. It was disappointing that that they wouldn't do this until I'd paid for a block of sessions.
