It’s the second time I have been here in a month. The sauna hasn’t worked. I don’t pay for access to amenities that don’t exist. It sure is advertised. So to my disappointment I keep coming somewhere for the sauna and it clearly isn’t operable and won’t be. This is such a middle finger to the customers who join your gym. Noted! Maybe Brick Bodies will be a better option. LA Fitness has no integrity and has been like this for years.

I received a call from a trainer asking me to consider switching locations since I often visit both the Arbutus and Towson gyms. I decided to check this one out. It’s a nice facility, but the location is farther than I’d like. During peak hours it was extremely crowded—I waited 45 minutes just to use one machine, rotating through others in the meantime. Many of the guys seemed to be socializing more than working out. I was also disappointed to find the sauna out of order, since that’s one of my main reasons for joining. I especially prefer rock saunas over infrared because I sweat more in them and already have an infrared at home. Between the wait times and the sauna situation, I’m not sure I’ll be returning to this location.

Went July, 25th 2025 around 1 o`clock. Bad manager gave me a hard time for no apparent reason, and gave very unclear instructions. He didn`t mind wasting my time. The gym is dirty, especially the pool and "hot tub" do they even put enough chlorine in it, very reflective of the manager. He`s not great and neither is the pool/gym. The gym is nicely built but not cared/cleaned for enough for sensitive interaction like getting in that pool, it has bacteria floating all in and around it. The manger (male) really left a bad impression.

Terrible experience — avoid this gym!
The sauna has been broken for YEARS and they clearly have no intention of fixing it. They advertise it as part of the facility, but it’s been out of order forever. Total false advertising. If they can’t maintain basic amenities, what else are they cutting corners on? Management doesn’t care and never communicates updates. Save your money and go somewhere that actually provides what they promise.

The only reason we goto this gym is because of its convenient location and reasonably equipped weight room. There are no complaints about the weight area, except for the fact that some people don’t re-rack the weights, which frustrates me. However, that’s not the gym’s fault; it’s just inconsiderate people.

My main complaint is that the sauna (both men’s and women’s) have been inoperative for years, and they don’t seem to care about fixing it. I’m starting to think that it’s not broken, but they just don’t turn it on to deal with it.

Some of you may be thinking why am I still here. The Overlook has found a crafty way to keep the tenants and the money here. I've been on my own since I was 15 and Im pushing 60. I have never been reported to Maryland Case Search for late rent payments. Which started during the pandemic. Once you are on Case Search you are there for eternity. So, what happens now... It is extremely hard to rent somewhere else once that pops up upon submitting applications. So, this is how you'll be stuck here constantly paying more each year. Now, if you don't believe it, do your own research. I encourage everyone who is interested in residing here to do your homework. You'll see that The Overlook at Franklin Square has 10's of thousands of case searches under the development for late rent. Not monies owed, but just late payments. Meaning rents paid prior to court notices.

There is so much more, that I can share  about this development. Like staff driving these golf carts around damaging residents vehicles. Mine has been hit twice by the maintenance and office staff. Taking the paint off while I watched and never fixed. Just brushed off by Troy, the prior manager... I don't want to hear you're going to beat who ever did it. How about repair it. But, if there's damages to this apartment I know they will come after me with full force. And why is it OK for maintenance to ride around this property with there minor children from the ages of 1 years old  to around 8 on these golf carts while they are working. Often leaving them alone on the carts. But I'll stop here.

And, Ashley I know and understand that it's your job to do so, but you don't have to respond. I don't want you to respond. I feel the perspective prospects/tenants need to know.

I love the Zumba classes at this gym! All the Zumba instructors, Gigi, Amanda, and Sonia, are amazing. They’re super energetic and friendly, and they make every class so much fun. The atmosphere is always positive and uplifting. Trainer Jerell and Steve at the front desk are always friendly and welcoming with warm smiles. Highly recommend!

I moved to Baltimore in January and stopped by this LA Fitness today using a free pass I had been considering a membership but was immediately turned off by the fact that the sauna is still broken

I switched to this gym a few months ago and it had been great! The price is way better than my last gym and I especially love the Zumba classes. The classes have helped me get back into fitness and prioritize my health and have made it fun and not miserable! It was a pleasure to discovered this gym.
The atmosphere is easy going, and an effective place to concentrate on your workout.
The staff is attentive but not pushy and the sanitation of the equipment is constant.
As a long-term workout fanatic (40 yrs.), I can say that the quality of the equipment is top notch.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate this gym only a nine, and that's just becauseI can't be here as much as I would like.

The walk-in staff as you walk in the one that checks you in perfectly fine but the reason for the one star it would be definitely zero we came in to sign up for a plan we were not greeted happily by the sales person supposedly sales manager supposedly the sales manager here was very aggressive and pushy towards the plans that they wanted to provide which were 30 to $40 more than the plan that I was selecting on the website for this location it stated that it was 49.99 plus the last month and the initiation fee which would have came out to a total of 168 she tried offering other plans which were 174 near $200 none of them of which I stated that I wanted and when presenting the website showing the plans that were provided she said that weren't valid there even though they were. right off the gate she was pushy aggressive and very unattentive when I request to speak with a manager she told me no when I requested for the day pass she said they don't do that here even though on the website it offered it completely at this location I don't know if she was having a bad day but people coming into a location willing to spend a half weeks wages to go to a gym should be treated with a little bit more respect I hope nobody has to go through what we went through today my wife and I will not be signing up here we will go to other locations and hopefully be treated differently a while back I hope this isn't what LA fitness has turned into I remember LA fitness being friendly and very luxurious today I was not met with those standards

Be careful with the “personal training” offered here. I signed up thinking I would try it for one month. In the contract it states that you can cancel your personal draining membership with no cancellation fee if the term is 2 months or less. I have been trying for the past 3 days to cancel the personal training. I have spoken with the personal training manager both in person and over the phone for the last 3 days and he still has not discontinued my membership. My bank account has now been charged for another month which I was trying to avoid by communicating with them about this early. He keeps telling me “his VP” will call me which he has not. Super frustrating. I even signed up for a year long general gym membership in advance and this personal training scam is ruining the experience.

I signed up for a free trial pass and was told they are not honoring the free passes because they have a sign up promotion for the weekend. Why would I sign up for a membership without making sure the gym is a good fit for me? The "weekend manager" was very unprofessional and refused to honor the pass. “When Gym Etiquette Goes Wrong: A Tale from LA Fitness (Boston St, Baltimore, Md 21224)

I joined LA Fitness on Boston Street almost 7 months ago, primarily for the amenities they advertise, especially the sauna. However, the sauna has not worked during my entire membership period. Today, I called to inquire about when it would be repaired and spoke with someone named Steven, who identified himself as the manager.

Unfortunately, Steven was curt, rude, and unprofessional. He told me I could call any location, but he didn't know when the sauna would be fixed. I hoped his attitude would improve in person, but when I visited, he continued to be dismissive and over-talked me in conversation. When I asked for the district manager's information, he said he could only give me the first name, Tyler, and refused to provide a last name. Steven also told me he didn't care about my feelings regarding his rudeness because, according to him, my feelings were my own concern and had nothing to do with him.

This kind of behavior from a facility leader is indicative of why equipment at this location, or within the brand as a whole, is not being repaired. Having unqualified individuals in these positions, who show a lack of integrity and disregard for customer service, reflects poorly on the company. How can LA Fitness advertise amenities that are either not available or in disrepair, and still expect members to be satisfied? In addition, having those within senior leadership unable to properly address customer complaints without escalating the initial issue into a membership cancellation.

It's astonishing how companies fail to learn from the missteps of their competitors who have already bitten the dust due to neglecting their paying customers. With unchecked behavior like that displayed by facility manager Steven, it won't be long before another corporate giant meets its downfall at the hands of a determined David.

And I added a few screenshots of other reviews about the manager’s behavior and the sauna, so, mines was not an isolated occurrence those in senior leadership can explain away away.

Is Customer Service Dead at LA Fitness?

The behavior of the person who identified himself as the manager of this LA Fitness was truly unprofessional. A gentleman came in, and it was evident that he was the same person I had overheard on the phone earlier. As soon as he walked in, he remarked that he hoped Steven, the manager, would have a better tone in person because he had been extremely rude over the phone.

Steven's behavior did not improve. He continued to be nonchalant and rude, over-talking the individual who had come in. It was shocking to witness that his attitude remained unchanged even with the customer standing right in front of him.

This experience has convinced me to cancel my membership. If this is how they treat members with issues, and this is the kind of manager they have in place, it spells trouble for anyone holding a membership there.

I’ve been a member of this gym for about 4 years now and have had a decent experience so far, but it’s on a downward trend. I used to work out, foam roll, and wrap up with the sauna, but I can’t do that now. The sauna has been out of order for 1-2 years, they had a note on the glass saying they are shopping for a new one, but after ~ 6 months the note was taken down and the sauna never repaired/replaced. Also, lot of people use the foam rollers before or after the workout and I guess they didn’t have enough? Instead of buying more for $15 on amazon, they cut one up into 3 pieces. Now we have a few mini foam rollers that are too small for many uses. 1/3 of the toilets in the men’s bathroom has been broken for months while the door on the second stall has issues locking, so the third is always busy and often doesn't have toilet paper. Finally, the last time that I went into the hot tub I saw the liner is broken and the water had some gross stuff floating on top, likely because it needs to be cleaned which I've never seen happen. It’s clear that management views this business solely from a bottom-line standpoint. Luckily there are plenty of machines and the staff in the morning is friendly, so I’ve stuck around being mildly happy while enduring the gyms slow decline.

I joined when I first moved to canton in July bad had to switch to crunch. It’s a terrible gym, the cleaner people have no regard for what people are doing in there they’ll just intrude in your space. The sauna didn’t work and looking back at old reviews that seemed to be an issue over a year ago as well. Lastly what made me want to change is that one time I forgot to scan my scan when walking in and they have this personal trainer guy that sits behind the check in counter and he got up and tried to pop his chest out at me like he’s all big and wanted to fight if I didn’t scan my card. Like cmon dude it’s just a gym and I paid my dues. Save your time, you’ll have much better time and experience at crunch.

It’s fine, just like any other commercial gym. But as a travel nurse, this gym’s sauna was out of order for the entire 8 months I was there. The sauna is the main reason why I go to LA fitness. Very disappointing.

It is also very difficult to find cable attachments here. This gym has single-handedly made me purchase my own attachments. Wondering what exactly my membership is paying for…

I've been going to this location since May 2024. I love it. The morning staff is friendly. The equipment is great for all exercise regimens. For the most part the facility is clean.
Equipment 4 Stars. versatile equipment. Repair replacement doesn't occur as timely as should for some items.
Cleanless Locker room 2 stars. The location at landsdowne is cleaner.
1 star for bugs Please get rid of the roaches 🪳 I see one every visit. Monday thru Friday 5am until 645, I see one every single visit. Shower area, getting dressed or even working out, their literally family ATP that's gross.

I have been a member of this LA fitness location for one year. It is very clean and does have a decent selection of equipment. Also the morning front desk staff are very nice. On the downside, the sauna has been out of operation since I joined and they have no idea when it will be functional. This is a huge disappointment and I pay for the sauna facilities as part of my membership, so this is really not right. The manager and the evening staff are not helpful at all and are not even polite. Also the small things like foam rollers and rope pulls for the cable machine are in terrible condition and are not replaced when they are no longer functional. They just disappear. The old frayed rope pull that we had for most of the year is just gone, and they have not replaced it with a new one in the last month. It's literally a $20 thing you could buy on Amazon. And I went to roll out the other day and the foam roller was literally flat under me like a pillow. It was just sad. This has the potential to be a really fantastic gym, but It needs better management.

I've actually come to love this place. It's such a chill gym. The trainers are phenomenal the community is pretty diverse. Highly highly recommend. Haven't seen any gym bro types either.

The Baltimore location is really clean and everthing is well taken care of. Everyone generally cleans up and wipes the equipment down once they use it. They have a TRX and kind of crossfit section. They also have a nice pool, hot tub, dressing room and sauna area. They have a kids area that looks nice too. Nice gym and staff overall, I really like it here.

April 2024 Update: The sauna has not been working for at least 4 months. I really loved using it after my workouts to unwind and stretch. Hopefully it is back working in May.

Brand new Gym, new facility is nice but that Sauna is broken/down. You ask the management/staff about the status of the sauna and they give you that 5th grader stare that they don’t know what your talking about . They don’t make no effort to provide an update or get the sauna fix and running. It’s sad because we pay a monthly membership to get the full services and yet we get short changed!!!!

This is one of the newer faculties. It is still nice with working equipment. As many of the newer faculties there is no basketball court or sauna. Not sure why they’re doing away with those items but the space is a nice size and it very bright and open.

Just joined the gym last week. When I received the tour, I asked the young lady what amenities does the gym offer, she had no idea what amenities were. I was then sat with Victor, he was texting the whole time. When I brought it to his attention he just got up and walked away. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.

While at the gym I had to search for something to clean the equipment. That just lets me know that no one is cleaning the equipment. Also I had on a pair of light blue workout pants (this is important), I used the mat in the stretching area and my knees were brown from how filthy it is in there. What gives!?!?!

While in the showe there cleaning men put up signs are working but dont check if eomen are in the bathrooms or showers They put up signs while women are in the showers then go in and clean when ask to leave he refused to do so.

I really wanted to love this gym. I’ve been here for a while now and the Sauna has been out of order for almost a year? Or longer. It’s very disappointing. Now I am here mostly everyday and now the WiFi is not working either.

Let’s not even speak about the ROACHES that are spotted here and there, reasons why most ppl walk around with their gym bags while working out. This gym is 8 minutes away from me and that’s why I continue to come here. STAFF is friendly and I guess the issues is much bigger than them.

The staff members are extremely helpful. Pepsi will make sure you’re not lacking your workout routine. The people are very kind the whole gym is a judge free zone. 10/10 definitely recommend

It’s very disappointment to see the very first infrared sauna in Baltimore’s location is been closed for more than a year. Last time I visited Virginia’s location they’re not just have the regular steam sauna but also have the infrared sauna working together.

Is it simply the issue of the mechanical problem or the management issue? And why do we get to treat so differently due to the location.
I think all the members in the Baltimore location deserve an explanation other than just an excuse.
