I have to amend my last..they have done the Redo of this location it looks nice updated adnchanged equipment enlarged the paid training area new blazing hit sauna THANK YOU the whirlpool is decent but not great..2 things..the Men locker shower and rest room..Please! Maintaince cleaning..I have noticed the nice new floors are not being moped and The Shower and Lav still have the Scent of subpar maintenance..in fact it has smelled this way for several years..Not good.. when this Club first opened There was always a cleaning person there and there was a water hose and He used it. At this point steam cleaning , disinfectant. And follow up with frequent moping. Its a gym it dont have to be fresh..But this needs attention.

While this place is now nicely modernized, their Spa or Sauna, or Showers are always having issues. Today they had no hot water in the showers. Curious thing is that the Front desk had no clue. For a very long time the spa was not running. Disappointing.

LA Fitness in Bowie has truly leveled up with the recent renovations. I’ve always enjoyed working out there, but now the space feels refreshed, modern, and full of energy. The updated equipment, cleaner layout, and overall vibe make a noticeable difference. It’s like stepping into a brand-new gym while keeping the familiar comfort of the old one. Adding to the horrible reviews about the staff. Customer service is really down the drain these days. The “grown woman” (she referred herself as this but is a literal child) at the front was unhelpful and rude. Quick to say it’s $20 for a guest pass but failed to mention the 7-day free trial online. Doesn’t state that you need an appointment in the email or text generated, but the staff insists. Just go down the street to Golds, hell even planet fitness. They lost both an existing and potential customer.

UPDATE: They have made some MAJOR improvements inside the gym, nearly gutted the old space and replaced the locker rooms and gym area with new floors and a lot of new equipment! It looks really good, and I have been opting to go to this location more since it seems like they are actually starting to listen to customer concerns. They need to get the hot tub fixed, but overall great work! I’ve noticed there is no longer a designated area for multiple people to stretch (the big stretch mat is gone); although the training area could be a space for that. I also didn’t see any hair dryers in the women’s locker room. Not sure if they’re still locking doors early or not.

Overall good gym. Main issue is the hot tub! The jets have been broken for over 3 months. And when they do get fixed they last for maybe a month. I am a new member and the hot tub has been down more than it’s been up. And no one can tell you when it will be fixed. Even after the renovation still broken. I joined this gym to do water therapy. The hot tub is a key component of that. Just getting ridiculous at this point.

The convenience of the location is great. I appreciate the recent facelift, too. But now there's no place to stretch, do push ups, sit ups, foam rolling, floor work etc with the padded mats. We were told to use the "floor by the water fountain" (seriously?), the aerobics room (there's a class), or the personal training area if we're "out of the way." This is a big oversight and I'm surprised the management approved such a choice during the renovations. I hope they can rework to create such a space again. Otherwise, Crofton it is.

Gym is the worst! Staying in Bowie for a while and Looking for a gym. Got a 3 day pass to check out gym on Wednesday went to gym to activate as mentioned on pass, Staff up front said by appointment only. So I left, called and Set appointment for the next morning Thursday at 8am. Had to wait till 9am for someone the can help to arrive!! Went this morning, Sunday.. no info on my 3 days pass and lady up front did not want to help out and keep mentioning I had to wait for staff and they show up as they please...Smh!! Never again!!

5 stars because I see they’ve improved 10 fold since I joined. Wipes are always available, showers and lockers are cleanest of any other LAF I visit. Machines and sauna are never down longer than a day or 2 for service. I’d like to thank the GM, who I believe is still here, who kick started my fitness journey that day in December 2022 when he stopped me in the grocery store asking if I have gym membership.

I’ve been going to this gym for years now. Great staff. Very personable. But the gym isn’t maintained well. Restrooms are in poor condition. Equipments are always broken. The studio hasn’t been fixed properly since accident and is super cold in winter. There’s always a leak from the men’s restroom beside the single leg extension machine. The vents need to cleaned. For the price of membership, they should take better care of the gym.

If I could leave zero stars I would. I have been trying to cancel my membership for over two months. They require you to go in person to cancel and it must be during the work week, Monday-Friday between the hours of 9-5. Ive told them several times I work a 9-5 and have asked if there is any other way to handle the situation. They have hung up the phone on me several times. The manager Jordan refuses to return my call nor assist the situation in any way. I have to now escalate the situation to corporate over something as easy as canceling a membership. Do not get a membership here.

This gym has mainly everything that the LA fitness facilities have, but there is a big problem. I only come there for classes and I went there yesterday in the studio and it was very cold in the studio where the classes are being kept. It felt like I was outside and that is a problem as people can get sick especially after sweating during an intense workout as it so cold outside already. I spoke to someone at the front desk but it felt like they know about the problem but they do not care. I do not recommend people going to the location. I will never go back to this location. We pay too much money every month on memberships for the facilities not to be working functional and not giving basic necessities water, heat, toilet tissue and etc.

My experience at this gym compared to others is mediocre. Women’s locker room always dirty as cleaning lady is hanging out in there on her phone and not cleaning. Laying on benches in there needed by customers to change, i literally had to ask her to move. Hangs out in there with relatives(?) who are on videophone while customers are changing, had to ask them not to video while I was changing. Showers are dirty. No hairdryers. Dirty countertops. Dirty restrooms. Busted, dirty lockers. Pool seems unhygienic, I often get sick after swimming there. Holes in women’s locker room ceiling. Wish other gyms in Bowie didn’t also have similar levels of nasty.

I was going to be visiting the area with a friend and called to confirm a class I found on their schedule and the manager Vince was very helpful and kind. One of the personal trainers is very "mannish" and inappropriately flirty. Many gimmicks to get you to join but you can only leave if you speak with the manager (which I'm sure is illegal) and he or she is never available, even during core business hours. The ceiling of the facility is also filthy which is a disgusting distraction during workouts. Frustrating waste of money!!

The front desk and staff and friendly and helpful. I work out here 3-4 days a week. I do use the other locations and in comparison, Bowie feels bigger than most of the other locations and offer a tad more variety in workout equipment options. I like the natural light you get during your workout. I appreciate the member appreciation days that allow local businesses that are members to table and showcase their business. As a local Realtor, I provided away free healthy snacks and waters at my table.

Overall good gym. The manager Jordan is very helpful and the rest of the staff seem friendly. However there is a salesman by the name of Vincent who is very Shiesty. First off the gym and la fitness website gives free three day passes for you to try the gym out to see if it is fit for you. As soon as you sit with him he immediately starts talking prices instead of the three day you originally came in for. He pressured a friend of mine that just recently just had a baby into signing up for a membership she couldn’t afford. He used the baby weight as a body shaming tactic that embarrassed her and made her self conscious. He will relentlessly persuade you into signing up without giving you time to consider finances spouse or anything else for that matter. He says “today is the last day of our Black Friday deal” to force you to sign up right then and there. Mind you you just wanted to get the free day pass you were offered. Also I find it strange he speaks on black Friday when Black Friday was months ago. To rap things up Vincent will not let you out the chair until he squeezes your wallet. Beware of Vincent.

Fairly new to the area, looked for a gym closer via Google of course. I read specifically the lower star votes here and I almost was scared away. However I just wanted to go see for myself and shortly put, they were wrong. The gym is well maintained, updated and working equipment, the trainer I worked with was a solid dude. It’s clean, most ppl put their weights back, janitor has been active everytime I’ve visited, very spacious in there, never had to weight too long for a machine. If I did there were plenty other options. Oddly enough I’ve been able to focus more.. definitely found my home gym.

Additionally, the rates were what I expected. I listened to the trainer/salesman and asked questions. I can’t say they’re “trying to get over” on people. There are different options that can meet most financial concerns. So just listen and ask questions for clarity.

I am a member of LA Fitness Bowie MD. This Gym has a very large # of Seniors (Older People). This is a GUARANTEE paid memberships from the government. This Gym is in major need of repairs, the carpet is water stained and mold is building up, the equipment is dirty. There are water stains in the ceiling which indicates the roof is in need of replacement and the female restrooms are dirty. If you’ve ever been to a used car dealership, you’ll know exactly what this gym feels like when you go to sign up as a new member… don’t let them fool you, you can use the free three day pass trial without signing up for a membership. That way you don’t have to cancel immediately after, when you find out you don’t like the gym.

The overall quality of this gym is pretty mid to be honest. they have a fair amount of equipment, but compared to things like planet fitness or crunch the gym is fairly small. They have a lot of different amenities though, so if you’re into pools, cycling or studios for yoga and Zumba then this might be the place for you.

If you’re anything like me and you just want a basic gym that has some decent amenities like a body scan or maybe Hydro massages but you’re mostly concerned about having really nice equipment high-quality machines and weights… then find a different gym this place ain’t it.

TL;DR:
If you wanna feel pressured into getting a gym membership without using your free trial and you wanna work out at a gym that has a lot of amenities that you probably won’t use and you don’t mind using mid-level quality equipment at the gym. This is the place for you.

P.S. get a $10/mo PF membership and plan your workouts outside of the rush time.. you’ll be better off I promise.

Ambiance is nice, equipment isn’t bad. But be careful when you sign up because they lied to me about refunding the annual fee just to get me to sign up. The sales guy promised me he would refund me the fee, since I would only be here for a month, and then it was later explained to me on my last day that this is not possible. The manager, to his credit, was sympathetic and helped me get my money back by telling me to call corporate, but it seems like they have no intention of changing how they sell or get money out of people. Be careful when you cancel because they have a lot of ways of getting you to pay fees.

I have been to most of the L.A. Fitness locations in PG County. I would rank this one above Lanham, Hyattsville and Laurel in terms of overall workout experience. Its clean (compared to other gyms I have been to), the front desk is pleasant and always greets you, and I have never had to wait for a treadmill or an exercise machine. However in the short time I have been working out there I have had two not so pleasant run-ins, one with a staff member who berated me for leaving a paper towel in a bathroom stall floor that was drenched with water. And one from a rude patron who threw her neck wrap at me for removing it from a Smith machine that had been unoccupied for 10 minutes so I could use it. But overall, an excellent gym.

A gym that meets my needs. Sauna, swimming pool, bike room, and aerobic area. Patrons are generally polite and encouraging.
The only negative to mention is their towel dispensers are often empty or cleansing fluid dispensers are broken. Otherwise, it's a great gym.

I have been a member of LA fitness Bowie location for over a year now. I took some time off from the gym after I gave birth to my son, and since I’ve come back, I can tell it has gone downhill a bit.

I am a big fan of this location because it’s convenient, has a great variety of equipment, and the equipment stays operational (and is fairly quick to fixed if there are breaks). However, the disinfectant does not stay well stocked… which means people most likely are not wiping down their equipment after use, even if they originally intend to. I am an early bird gym-goer, and the free weights are not re-racked, and the ones that are, are in the wrong place, and sometimes not even paired up. I would be more understanding if this was a 24/7 gym… but no excuse for the closing shift to not restock and re-rack weights properly.

My biggest pet peeve is the staff on their phones! They sit behind the desk and stare down at there laps, just watching people key themselves in. They seem inconvenienced if you ask them a question. Please show some more effort… I’ve seen more impressive customer service at a $10/mo planet fitness! We pay $35/mo for this gym. If planet fitness wasn’t so packed, I would gladly take my money there. The young, unprofessional staff need a supervisor.

Buyer beware...if you sign up, LA Fitness will make you jump through a lot of hoops to cancel your membership, such as mailing your cancellation request certified US mail (just in case they forget to process the first one or it gets lost in the mail) or walking into a physical branch. Even then, your membership will run another month or so cause you pay for it when you sign up. These hoops was particularly hard for my 79 year old mom who is elderly and could not walk into a branch because one was not conveniently located near her when she moved to NY. The operations manager was very quick to separate himself from corporate's policies. Remember to read the fine print. They bank (literally) on people forgetting or being busy. Unfortunately for my mom, they took three months of payments from her pension and SS before we were able to get a cancellation. Too bad LA Fitness didn't get the memo that businesses retain more customers when they build client relations and community, NOT turn their customers into dollar signs.

I wish I knew then what I know now. Unfortunately, it's too late for me. This is a good gym. I liked it very much! The Trainers were good and effective. Unfortunately, they are under the reign of incompetent and unethical leaders Jimmy Merlos and Dan (Who is the regional manager or something. Dan let's Jimmy Merlis get away with it so he's under my scrutiny too). Jimmy Merlos is charismatic and draws you in but he lies on the regular. If you go, you can expect a great experience but if you see Jimmy Merlos, run! He is unprofessional, irresponsible, self abdorbed, lazy & the biggest lump of dead weight I've ever seen. Don't go to him if you have a problem with your account, he'll say he'll take care of it but just wont or he'll give you some load of B.S. The Trainers however, are just trying to make a living like the rest of us - they try to do a good job so give them a chance but don't let them route your experience through this guy. He undermines them, talks about them behind their back and will lie to you with regard to your membership benefits, status and what he can do for you. He still have never given me my diet plan that was promised in the contract...loser! So, I'm out but if I knew then what I know now, I would go back but with caution!

The weight brackets on the knobs (to add 5 10 15 lbs) frequently pop off and it will take them a month or a few months to replace them, if they even do at all. I mean at this point you'd think they'd at least put a sticker on so something is always there to show the correct weight!! The hot tub probably had too many chemicals because the one time I tried it, I had to get out after 5 min cause it was irritating my skin. The ceiling panels are either missing or have brown stains. The hip abduction machine has been broken for weeks now and they only have one to work glutes smh. Paper towels are frequently all gone. All this and they have the nerve to charge 50/ month. I used to go to planet fitness for 10/month and NEVER experienced these continuous issues!!!

This is the gym that my son and I have been using for a year, the truth is that it is super well equipped, it has excellent and a variety of machines, the classes are super cool, especially kickboxing, zumba and Yoga.

They also have a sauna, Jacuzzi and swimming pool, the manager is super friendly.

Staff is pretty rude and combative at this location. Every time you talk to them, there's never a positive response. It's definitely not a welcoming environment. Even bringing a guest can be a rough experience. The staff is always on their personal phone, and they make it seem like you're interrupting their day when you have a question. One employee walked off and went to the pool area to talk on the phone for over an hour, and the desk was unattended. This is the smallest location, so there's no basketball court. Also, there's often not enough clips for the weight lifting bars, so they can't all be used at the same time. They don't even refill the paper towels. Overall, just don't expect much from them. The staff is young and unprofessional. They need a supervisor.

This gym is a good gym to go to and I really enjoy the trainers here that train me. I came here in September of 2020 and I told them my goals that I want and right away they got me the trainers I need. Since I am a student athlete that was one of things that really stood out to me.

I enjoy this club very much. The equipment is generally available, the atmosphere is very comfortable and professional, the showers and steam rooms are clean, easy parking, you see the staff sanitizing the equipment. Only complaint is people don't always clean equipment before and or after use and some people get carried away on their cell phones.

The equipment is old, broken and outdated. I thought maybe it was just a one off but I’ve been to a few locations and this is a common theme. 2 broken leg press machines, insufficient amount of dumbbells, missing pieces on equipment. Overall I was frustrated by how poorly maintained the equipment was. Also, I think the disinfectant should be distributed around the gym, not me carrying it throughout my workout.

I definitely enjoy coming to this La Fitness location. It’s smaller but it has all the important stuff like machines, a pool, sauna, and hot tub. They also do a decent job at keeping it clean. I wish they would offer more classes in the evening but it’s probably due to thier size and number of members visiting that determines how many classes they offer. They consistently offer spin, yoga, Zumba and aqua fit classes but just not that many in the evening.

I recently moved to the area and I enjoy working out in this specific location because it’s not crowded like other locations.
(Hyattsville and Laurel)
I usually go during the morning or evening
I can easily use whatever machine I need to without that need of waiting for my turn.

I frequent the LAF in Crofton and it is a bit older yet always clean and everyone is respectful. This one in Bowie, I could not stand staying past two workout sets. My first impression was that it is newer than Crofton (hence the second star instead of just one), yet the free weights guys throwing weights onto the ground and not caring about keeping the weights in order. A coed couple were hoarding six different weights all over the floor around them. These were clear signs of poor management staff which I couldn't stand. Some equip machines were broken without out of order signs as well. I've been a member for 15 plus years (mostly in New York and Seattle), so I understand clearly how a well-run LAF should be like. It was pure embarrassment simply being in this one.

This review is all about the training coordinator Jimmy Merlos. If you go for a membership at the bowie md location LA Fitness I would STRONGLY recommend that you see anyone but him about a membership. He will lie about your policy, when you can use your sessions, he'll also lie about a diet/meal plan that he promises to give you. Clients that he signed up are still waiting a year later for it, but promises mean nothing to him. As soon as he signs up he'll renege on what he says because he only cares about being paid. He is unprofessional, egotistical & a narcissist. If you're a woman he will instantly pull out his phone & show you shirtless pictures of himself even tho you never asked to see them. Many clients have complained that he is completely innapropriate asking for dating advice when he should be working them out. He misses appointments many many times with the same tired excuse that he is visiting someone is the hospital. He misses these appointments without calling these individuals to let them know. I have NOT ONE BIT embellished these stories because there is no need to, it's really as bad as I am saying. Jimmy will never answer for his horrible unprofessionalism because he & Dan skoczylas (his superior) is buddies with him & will save Jimmy is from being rightfully terminated. Jimmy Merlos knows this & that's why he plays fast & loose with his job. Bye the way; Donny, head of sales; is the man! If you go there to get a membership go to him, because unlike Jimmy he deserves the commission that he would get from signing you.Jimmy Merlos also vapes weed while on the job. He encourages the employees to breach policy & I quote, “If you get away with it do it.” Regarding freelance clients in addition to your clients at LA Fitness, which is against LA Fitness policy. Everything I said about Jimmy Merlos is 100% true & accurate & the manager Dan Skoczylas completely supports & backs up his actions.

Nothing wrong with the gym but I would give the employees and manger a 0. I came to the gym one evening and forgot my AirPods , and the following morning I had called to ask if it was still there and one of the employee said it was there and she would leave it at the front desk so I could pick it up. I gave her my name and everything to hold but on getting there it had all of a sudden disappeared and none of the employees could tell me what happened or who they gave it to.When I spoke to the manger his exact words were “it’s just AirPods, and anyone that finds any item gets to keep it as they don’t have a lost an found section”

The Staff was excellent and kind.. The bathroom had a bit of a leak In the ceiling in the ladies room... I think the machines should be fully wiped down once a week the week to keep the dust from Accumulating... The clients clean what they need to clean... But the staff And the company Should have the machines wiped down fully once a week... That's my opinion..

Usually stop by this gym in the mornings or afternoons when I do. Gym is kept relatively clean during these times. Don’t usually use the locker rooms, but the few times I’ve walked into use the restroom, it appeared clean. Not too busy either, which is nice. The Bowie gym is a bit smaller than the other LA Fitnesses in the area so when it gets busy, it can feel crowded.
