I am giving 4 start. 5 start for the staff (good staff). and 1 star for the amenities and options.

Equipment is really old, and the child care center is removed. They want to rent it out to some vendor. Its been empty for months and I dont think it will fill any time soon. Considering the number of options in that location.

Atleast get the child care option, so families can come for 40-50 minutes workout. All my friends have kids who age between 2 to 7. Its hard to workout for them, child care will help bring them all to the gym.

Most of the staff is just idle and greeting people. Its not their fault, they have not been assigned the work.

Solid location with potential. Maintenance here is straight-up neglected. Sauna could be fixed for $1,000. Replace the broken bench! Machines stay broken for weeks (or months) with just a sign. Staff says sorry, “management knows” with no ETA. Disapointing, could be nice. Same old 2008 equipment vibes. Lawsuit incoming for the sauna bench!

The manager here is great, the staff is friendly. When they are not assisting other members, they welcome you in with a smile and wish you well on your workout. When you’re headed out they typically send you off with a “have a good day/night,” which is a nice touch. The bathrooms are usually clean and smell fresh, and the gym itself is well maintained- especially when Rosa is there. I always see her doing something to keep tidy. Overall it’s a pleasant place to workout.

Writing this review because Rose does not get enough recognition. Ever since she started working there, the ladies locker rooms are kept super clean and smells like fabuloso (which I don't mind), PLUS she also scrubs all eight shower stalls and maintains a welcoming environment. Before she came into the picture, the locker rooms was not a pleasant place to be in, and I would try to do my business and get out of there ASAP. This lady deserves a raise!

I joined LA Fitness, Gaithersburg, MD a couple of months ago! And, I’m very pleased it was a wise move!
Alpha— the manager is very pleasant and professional! Wes who looks after the administration is also helpful.
Most of the machines are in fairly good condition.
I’m told that very soon they will renovate the facility—and then I’ll give them five stars!

Instead of staying with another outfit, I wish I had joined LA Fitness, Gaithersburg sooner!

I joined the Gaithersburg Copley Gym while the facility was still being built. Being a senior citizen - cough cough - I don’t use all the equipment, but I love this gym and the staff are helpful and very friendly. Not all the TV stations on the monitors work BUT I’ve been recently assured that they will be soon be updated.

Really enjoyed going here but had to leave. Was dreading the usual process of canceling with a gym where mangers try to talk you out of it. While i wish there were an option to cancel online or over the phone Alpha, the manager here, made it the next easiest thing. I just gave him my phone number and there was no issues. This gym is my favorite of the LA Fitnesses. The amenities are great and clean, the equipment is awesome, and the staff are very helpful. Wes the manager is great. This LA Fitness isn’t the closest for me, but it’s worth the drive.

For me, what makes this gym stand out so much is the culture of the members. The members tend to put the their weights back in the right place and are extremely friendly. It really is like a giant family and sanctuary

Awful place. I have been to several LA fitness facilities and this one by far the worst. Came here last week as a guest with my friend because I was thinking about joining it. Will not be back. Very dirty and equipment isn’t being maintained. Sanitizer disposals are empty, carpet is disgustingly filthy. They have a general manager by the name Alpha who doesn’t seem to care because we asked if we could talk to him, but he was too busy signing up new members. Not okay to have equipment like this :(

Do NOT get an LA Fitness membership, they try to cut corners to let you keep paying for your membership when you try to cancel it. I came in person to cancel my membership with them and they lied to my face about cancelling it. I got charged 3 times in 2 month-increments (once in August, next time in October, and lastly in December). Blocked their charges and they kept badgering me about a "declined card". Called the manager and threatened to file a lawsuit and they cancelled it OVER THE PHONE, when they claim that you "have to come in person to submit a written letter for cancellation". If you want to cancel, call them and ask for their regional manager, threaten to file a lawsuit and they should cancel your membership then and there over the phone. If you actually like LA Fitness then good for you

Pros- excellent location, very convenient and with healthy food options surrounding. Staff is very friendly, polite and helpful. They have all the machines that you’d expect/want. They have a pool and sauna.

Cons- this location is smaller and more crampt than other locations I’ve been to. When I go to the gym these days I can rarely get on the machines I want to because it is so crowded seemingly at all times. I’m rarely able to get on a Squat rack, leg press, or smith machine. Lots of teenagers here goofing off. Lots of people who are discourteous- they sit on machines playing on their phones for prolonged periods or try to “reserve” machines that they’re not actually using, with a jacket or water bottle- really just rude behavior. Many people here don’t know what they’re doing and are attending as more of a social hour, which crowds up the gym. Much of the equipment is out of order. There are certain machines that have had a “Scheduled for Service” sign up literally for MONTHS. Seems like truly half the ellipticals are broken? Most of the weight machines they only have one each.

I’m just not sure it’s worth it, even for $35/month. I leave here frustrated pretty much every time. Will likely look for other options.

So I was given this 3 day membership from a friend to check it out. Worst experience in my life. I was directed to some girl and all she did was take my drivers license info from my phone. Took a pic on my phone and told me here you go. I had to ask where the bathrooms were. There was a class going no idea what type. They also had a room full of bikes. The second level was just more equipment. There is a pool, the equipment for the disabled clearly hasn’t been maintained. A jacuzzi that I later found on another day and the sauna. The next day I got a call I guess from the girl who took my information asking how I liked the club. Her phone skills were terrible and my response matched her energy. My friend told me to download the app which I did and filled out the information. The manager Apha Aplhie not sure called me and I informed him that the person who took my information and how I felt unhappy because they are calling me about signing up for a membership but won’t take the time to even show me around the club. Let me know about the classes they offer or anything. I didn’t finish the 3 days because when I went in on the same day I spoke to the manager. When I asked for him at the desk I was told he had left. Mind you I was sitting in front of the entrance and told him that I was coming in. I hit the sauna and was traumatized. It clearly states no nudity but for some odd reason this older woman decided that not only did she want to exercise which you can’t do. She clearly has no common curtesy to be mindful of others. When she put her knees to her chest I almost lost it and the 2 other women in their were also trying to keep their composure. Until the towel fell and exposed everything. The other occupant had to cover her eyes. By this time I’m literally facing the wall the women gets up to leave and the towel just drops to the ground. She leaves and I’m like ok I can relax. Nope she walks straight pass the door with no clothes on and I’m like I’m done. The manager never followed back up and honestly whatever they are charging is not worth it.

Edit 2: it’s been a few months and I switched to One Life. The sauna is my favorite feature but on my first day at one life the sauna was out of commission…because IT WAS BEING CLEANED! They even took out the floor boards and cleaned the underside.

Edit: ATTENTION MANAGEMENT - mop the floor at least once a week PLEASE. There’s dust and trash under the cedar benches that’s been there for months (years?)!

Cancelled my membership after 2 months because I couldn’t stand going there anymore. The whole gym, including the bathrooms, is always filthy. I have been at this gym for 7 years, not a thing has changed or been updated. The AC is sporadic which means it feels like a swamp when its humid out, equipment is often broken, the carpet is original and ragged, and some of the sinks in the locker room don't work. General upkeep is lacking.

On a positive side, the people who work there are great. They are very nice. I haven't left because my rate is locked in and its location is close. Otherwise I would definitely go to another gym.

One of the nicer LA fitness gyms. There's this short Asian dance instructor who always has the music in her class wayyyy too loud (almost a little painful). She's super weird - if you ask her to turn it down a little, she would turn it up even higher. There has been a lot of complaints but management doesn't do anything about it.

Have been going here over a year mostly for pool access, but also for cardio. The cardio machines are tired, but mostly work. Pool is an embarrassment. During the months they have swim lessons it is well maintained. Was generally good last winter. This summer the pool water quality has been awful and temperature swings have been common. I drive 22 miles to swim here and have wasted my time this summer on about half of my attempts to swim in this pool. Today, you could barely see the lane lines from the pool edge in less than 4 feet of water.

Aside from that, this club needs a good cleaning. Persistent drain flies and they do not consistently clean the locker rooms. I counted 12 smashed fly carcasses in the shower I used today. This was first thing in the morning, so they were not fresh kills.

Nothing a solid refresh could not fix, but dirty and poorly maintained through summer 2024. Looking for a different pool.

But other gyms I've been to tend to have staff that walk around helping rack dumbbells if they are just sitting on the floor with no one around. The lockers are filthy at times they are not even cleaned daily or I just happened to encounter the same locker with blue liquid spilled in it two days in a row. The staff there is not friendly. It seems like lack of maintenance. Machines break down and stay down for weeks.

EDIT: had to rate it lower and cancel my membership when someone took a hammer to my lock. I reported it to the manager who told oh well it not there problem. I just wanted a report so I can submit to my CC to get my items that were stolen reimburse. He refused to do anything.

Lana’s Aquafit class on Wednesday and Saturday is the highlight of my week! I have a knee injury so the water cushions it and I still get an amazing workout. She is really motivating and her music is great!

Ive been here for several years.. I can’t believe im paying my membership for dirtiness + half broken machines whenever I go. Why does it take few months to fix it?? Why is staff slacking?? Not planning to fix anything?? During summer time, smells are awful as hell. I dont think theres air ventilation. This is unbelievable.

A lot of broken equipment that stays that way for eternity. This is just 4 examples and just the weight section and railing down. Too crowded and hot in the summer. Not enough equipment. There’s hardly any gyms in Gaithersburg. The nicest LA Fitness is in Severn.

The gym is ok... Lots of machines are not working, some water fountains included. The rest of the machines work barely enough to be used. I would say overall a good 40% of cardio equipment I want to use are not functioning as intended. There is rust everywhere! I wonder if the rust is due to caustic cleaning chemicals. Staff is generally friendly, but not terribly helpful regarding malfunctioning equipment. The place is generally pretty clean. Wish they would invest in more maintenance instead of always having half a dozen sales guys sitting in the front twiddling their thumbs.
