I do not recommend the Hyattsville location for several reasons. I’ll share negatives and positives from my own experiences.

During my own practice time today in the fitness room (no class in session), the Silver Sneakers teacher (Tracey?) confronted me because I had previously moved the teacher podium/stereo 2-3 feet over (This was to place my laptop on for practice and to be able to plug into the nearest outlet). The instructor said “You’re not supposed to move that!” as if I was a naughty child or something. There was no sign or other indication that I was “not supposed” to do that. I told her several times that I would move it back (which I do ANYWAY if I use anything in the gym). I stated that members can use the space when there is no class, which I was doing (The class wasn’t set to start for another 35-40 minutes). She just kept repeating “Well, you’re not supposed to move that!” I did not appreciate her tone, so I vented my frustration to a fellow member. Then, the Silver Sneakers teacher approached me again and said that we’re not supposed to move it because moving it would give the fitness teachers problems with using the stereo for music. I said that I would not move it ever again, and that was the end of it. But, shouldn’t the stereo work for class, whether or not I move the podium??? She should’ve have dealt with management about that problem, not take it out on me. I shouldn’t feel berated by a fitness teacher for moving obviously FAULTY equipment during non-class time. Unacceptable.

I do appreciate the new manager who has been trying to set new gym “etiquette” policies. She has also been very responsive whenever I’ve brought up an issue, such as a clogged toilet. The weekday early morning (before 9 am) young man at the check in desk is always helpful and friendly, especially when I have a question. He has helped me several times when I needed to use the aerobics room for practice, such as with using the lights, etc. However, the issue with the Silver Sneakers teacher today was the last straw for me at this location. I’ve tried to overlook the nasty bathrooms and the inconsiderate members who hog machines while they blab on the phone. The locker room has many broken lockers. Only a few can hold a lock. The aquatics area is ok, but based on other locations I’ve seen, like Laurel and Gaithersburg, it could be cleaner and brighter. This aquatics area is in the basement and is quite rusty and dim - not very inviting. Plus, I’m not a fan of the co-ed sauna and steam room, but that’s just a personal preference.

Overall, I’ve just had better experiences at other LA Fitness locations in the area, like Laurel and Gaithersburg. Their facilities are clean and well-maintained. Those facilities are busier throughout the day, but the members there generally respect each other’s space, especially when using the aerobics room during non-class time. Their saunas are sex-separated and the aquatic spaces are well-lit and inviting. After today, it’s worth the drive elsewhere for me.

this is a great gym overall. I switched from Crunch bc they increased their price from $25 to $40/ month (insane), and it was always full of college kids. LA is far enough from campus so I much prefer this crowd, and I got a deal for $30 which is great.

PROS:
- affordable
- variety of machines that work
- doesn’t get insanely crowded
- amazing lighting (seriously lol all the windows rly highlight that pump)
- 5 squat racks, I rarely have to wait for them
- lots of benches
- very nice & helpful staff
- pool (I haven’t tried it but it looks nice)
- free parking

CONS:

- bathrooms can get pretty dirty
- music is.. interesting lol. if u like random top 40s pop from like 2010 you’ll enjoy it. it’s not my cup of tea, but it’s SO loud & I can hear it through my headphones
- only one row machine and it’s awkwardly in a corner with all the cables, it can get pretty crowded over there

last note: another reviewer mentioned the “dust” on the ceiling — I am asthmatic and was also concerned, but that is NOT dust! if u go upstairs near the garage, you’ll see that it’s a type of spray on insulation.

I signed up for membership and was told to come in at 11:30 am the next day for my initial training. I was also told that someone would call me to verify my appointment. As of 11:45 am on the day of my appointment no one call. I called the facility to inquire about what happened. I was told that the trainer fell and injured himself. I asked why wasn't I called??? I could not understand why they were not proactive or professional enough to cancel the appointment. This is my initial experience, I can't wait to see what happens next.
A few of my friends was interesting in joining, I strongly suggested that they go to a different gym.

This GYM has everything you need for a solid workout. The gym is stocked with a wide variety of equipment – free weights, machines, and plenty of cardio options – so I never have to wait long to use anything. The pool is a decent size and perfect for laps or just cooling down, and I love that they also have a hot tub for recovery. I would like to respectfully share some concerns regarding the upkeep and maintenance of this gym. In my opinion, the overall cleanliness is not up to standard — the machines and other areas appear to have a significant buildup of dust, and there is a recurring lack of organization with the weights and other equipment. I believe the gym would greatly benefit from improved cleanliness and tidiness. This observation is based on my experience visiting other locations of the same brand, which have demonstrated a higher level of care and presentation.

I train here every day, but there are days when I get demotivated. I comforted looking at how neglected this gym looks too much dust on the walls and in the door frames. I see that only cleaning is done where people walk but not in the middle of the equipment. Please improve this part.

I’m truly disturbed with this location! I moved away 2/3 years ago and I come back to still a dirty gym but now the sauna is CO ed? That very uncomfortable for women! And seems very weird for a business to think that’s okay! But of course women being comfortable nowadays doesn’t matter….i will never come back here again! And to have the staff debating with me when I literally use to come to this gym TWICE a day is unnecessary! I’ve been a longtime member but recently moved to the area to be pleasantly surprised by this updated location. Also, the music is SLAPPING with some awesome house music aka “dance music.” BRAVO!!! so refreshing not to hear the annoying stuff on the radio. Staff and manager Marc 10/10! Although the locker rooms are not updated, the equipment and gym itself is spacious. Plenty of stretching areas and diverse equipment. Only complaint that is out of staff’s control is people at this location do not have good gym etiquette of re-racking their weights. I wish they would blare over the innercom or randomly display on TV “RERACK YOUR WEIGHTS.” Perhaps putting different neon color “re-rack your weights” signs with dumbbell image ( in English and Spanish on same sign) in rotation would help remind people to more courteous…

This establishment has gone down the drain over the years, men urinals are always detached and non functional..no toilet tissue in individual men stalls, doors are always broken on the stalls, showers soap dispenser are non existent, shower curtains are always missing from certain shower stalls, tvs in dressing room don't work, lockers are all bent up..this place is not the same from 10 years ago...the only place that looks like something is the workout gym area, every other place in there is slum...they've already closed the gym in Wheaton on Viers Mill Rd...This one on Belcrest Rd in Hyattsville should be next on the list..as long as I've been a member and really like this place from years back, I'm really considering withdrawing my membership...This place has turned into a slum

I arrived here asked not to have my picture updated and she took a picture without my consent and said she wasn't taking a picture of me that it was of the background. My first time at this location and I am incredibly disturbed by how dirty this place is! My allergies flared up immediately walking in and then noticed how disgusting the ceiling is. It is literally filled with thick layers of dust throughout the entire space. I would avoid this place if you have a respiratory problem or allergies like I do. I was so uncomfortable I had to leave immediately.

I saw someone else’s review that reported the same problem 7 YEARS ago and clearly the issue was ignored. Management needs to place this facility up to code, it is not safe from a health and safety perspective. This issue needs to escalated to Corporate.

AVOID THEIR MEMBERSHIP AT ALL COSTS. I wrote the first sentence in all caps so people understand how bad the place is. I paid for the personal training program which was 600 dollars. when explaining it they will gloss over facts such as the fact that it is a contract for 6 months. when I signed up the manager said that this program would be on a month to month basis. I asked three or four times what would happen if I cancelled at some point and the manager individuals stated that it would be cancelled that day and I would be unable to use it after the day of cancellation.After trying to get a hold of the manager all day I call their corporate office come to find out inorder to cancel I need to pay 1200 dollars, keep in I used in for 3 days during that week before deciding to cancel. reluctantly I agree to pay for it and cancel it. at which point I am informed that they charged me for the next month 3 days ahead of time which now mean I am paying 1800 to cancel this stupid membership but they said they would refund the 300 dollars from the 600 dollar charge now I am about to be charged 1500 dollars. SO PLEASE DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE SIGN YOU UP FOR ANYTHING AND IF YOU TRULY WANT TO WORK OUT AT THEIR GYM DO SO BUT DO NOT LET THEM COAX YOU INTO ANYTHING

If I could give 0 stars I would, I’ve had the worst experience in this LA I don’t workout here and I came for a workout today and it couldn’t been worse, staff were very rude I was working out and this personal trainer just took the bench that I was using and without saying a word, I get that was a personal trainer area but at the moment that I was using the bench no personal trainer was there, he just took the bench without saying anything,then I said sir I’m using this bench and he said I’m going to use with a client, that was very disrespectful he at least could communicated but all he did was ignore me and just took the stuff because he could but no sign of personal trainer area. And the front desk all they did was be more rude about when all I was saying he could have been more respectful and communicative!!! I love this gym. This location is a hidden gem. The patrons are kind and considerate and the facilities have improved. It's a work in progress as I know this is one of LA Fitness' old locations. I'm here twice a week enjoying the aquafit class with Gina. She is awesome, it's Dominique the Operations Manager that keeps me coming back. She is such a bright light of positivity and professionalism. I witnessed her calm and cool demeanor one afternoon as an employee was lashing out at her after being fired. Dominique didn't flinch. Her resolve was unwavering. She handled the situation like an organization leader should. I Thank her and the staff for intently listening to members concerns and taking action to address them. I intend to remain a member of this club and I cross my fingers that the current staff remains intact. Thank you.

Apparently they have a new manager and it obviously has made a huge difference. Marcos has changed the very feel of this gym. I used to be embarrassed to even bring a guest there. The staff is great and I hope he keeps it up because I certainly appreciate the change.

This guys remodel the gym and it looks amazing, this has to best gym in the area now. Pool, sauna, jacuzzi, steam room and new machines.

I was looking forward to the completion of a nice workout only to be yelled at by what appeared to be a manager Feb 15 at approx 5:20pm because I needed to charge my phone. The first employee gave conflicting information and said I could charge my phone anywhere there was an outlet and I saw other members do that. However, the manager ran towards me, yelled and said I couldn’t go in the direction I was walking and then asked if I was a member knowing that I just passed her. I had to rescan my membership card and then was told I had to charge my phone in the lounge which did not work. She didn’t care at all that it didn’t work. She has a nasty attitude and I’m unsure if it had anything to do with me rather than her having a bad day. I’ll continue to go to this gym because the location is great and the gym is big, but she will be ignored every time I see her. She can continue to yell when she greets members, but it’s unprofessional and I don’t think she is aware or has the knowledge that she’s doing this. Either provide adequate customer service training to staff, provide equal guidance, or rehire.

Es el peor gimnasio que he visto, me arrepentí tanto de haberme inscrito, fue un dolor de cabeza desde el. Inicio, empezando por el personal que son realmente ridículos, no ayudan en nada, ai tienda algun problema esos tipos jamas te darán una solución.
En todos se tiran la pelota "que aquel o tal peesona, que alla, o tienes que llamar este número" y ensima sus números no sirven.
Me robaron mi scooter dentro del gym y casualmente no tienen camaras ahí que asco, y no hicieron nada por eso...
Es asquerosamente horrible en todo sentido, pero para cobrar si son buenos, te cobram hasta por respirar dentro de ese gimnasio...
En la vida volvería a este lugar.

Difinitivamente NO lo recomiendo, las máquinas están viejas , a la hora de pagar un entrenador te prometen una cosa y te salen con otra , y eso es un ROBO, en cualquier parte del mundo se llama ROBO, por favor no pierdan su dinero pagando un entrenador por que te mienten mucho acerca de lo que ofrecen .

Several months ago I was disgusted with the up keep of the PG
Plaza LA fitness facility. I used the facility out of convenience.

On a regular basis I would find soap and toilet paper dispensers empty - especially so early sat and sun mornings!!

The transformation has been nothing short of amazing!!
At this point I would with much confidence
Compare the the PG facility to any other with regard to cleanliness and order!

Kudos to the always in motion team lead Yvonne!

Broken machines, destroyed floor, no enforcement of any rules whatsoever, missing weights, barbells, large groups of guys hanging out hogging equipment and not really working out while blasting music on giant bluetooth speakers. I know there's a renovation scheduled next month, but without the staff enforcing the rules, we're just going to be back at this in no time. The floor was fixed maybe a year ago, but people literally throw the weights and none of the staff say or do anything so now it looks like it does and is really dangerous - I've almost twisted my ankle multiple times.
I've spoken to the guy who repairs the machines and he tries, but far too many people in here abuse the machines so he literally can't keep up. So looking forward to the renovation, but really hoping they start enforcing the rules
