I don’t normally write reviews but on multiple occasions, I’ve witnessed the excellent attitude from Mr. Jose.
The cleaning crew play a huge roll in ensuring the gym members have a seamless and amazing workout and shower experience. I myself have seen Mr. Jose’s humble attitude during unpleasant situations which urged me to write this review to show my gratitude and appreciation for him and the whole cleaning team.

The Manager is very bad person in that he tricked me three times. He told me they are in a promotion and asked me to register my children. One time two years ago and now two weeks ago. For the current one he took $140 within 15 days but the agreement was not like that. After he took your account number he takes any amount and when you ask him how he did that his answer is always the same. “You are confused when I told you the details”. This is fraud! He is a very bad person.

I've been a member for 20-plus years, and I cancelled my membership yesterday on site. I've been frustrated with this site for years, and yesterday did it for me (won't go into that here, already spoke with customer service). When I told manager I wanted to cancel, he said okay and directed me to the front desk. He didn't want to hear me out or encourage me to stay as a member. I felt they don't really need my monthly fee, so I bounced and will never look back. Not to mention, the equipment is old, the facility could be cleaner, parking is bad, and again, management is poor. Already looking at other gyms today.

Do not join this gym if you want to use the pool. It’s reserved at peak times for little kids 😬. The gym is very mediocre and not very friendly besides. You can do much better for your money.

My first time at this location yesterday, I was not impressed. There is only one station with cleaning supplies for the entire floor. Many pieces of equipment were broken, benches not latched to the floor, and the dumbbell section was barely useable because half the dumbbells were missing and no employees were helping to put them back into the correct places. The place is just dumpy. I would not go to this location except for the fact I already have an existing membership.

I’ve been to dozens of La fitness across the country and this gotta be the bottom on my list. This is the only La fitness I’ve been without free parking/validating park. Patrons are dirty and often leave the wipes and napkins everywhere and not reracking the weight. Staffs are super friendly and helpful though. Swimming pool with four lanes, with sauna and locker room kept cleaned. Also have I mentioned about patrons leaving their trash behind and not reracking weights? Good luck finding dumbbells.

It’s like any other LA fitness but after being in few around the DMV area this is my least favorite one. Things are broken, sometimes things not cleaned and the worst part is parking. There are some people I see just leave their car without paying but there is parking and you can get a ticket. I asked front office staff, is there a parking fee or do you validate since lot of other la fitness do validate. The guy said first 2 hours is free. I then went on the ParkMobile app, put my info and guess what it is not free, I was charged $1.45 for 1 hr. There was no option of free parking for 2 hrs. Rather the parking is only valid for 2 hours max. So if you pay $1.45 for 30 days, you will be paying $43.5/month. Is it really worth it? If you don’t wish to pay, hope you pay for the parking ticket because that’s how Montgomery county makes money,

Equipment maintenance is lacking. For example, lots of cardio machines in need of repair sit for weeks. Currently 5 of 8 crossramps are broken and have been for a while. Wish management was better at maintaining equipment.
UPDATE: now only 1 of 8 cross ramp machines is working. Others have “scheduled for service” posted on them, apparently in perpetuity.

Since I'm a lap swimmer, I like that this LA Fitness has a pool. Lanes only. They have aqua fitness classes on the schedule, but I haven't taken one yet. I wish LA Fitness had kick boards to borrow, but we can't have everything.🫤 Nice dry sauna in the locker room and jacuzzi near the pool.

The staff at this gym are great and friendly… keep doing amazing. My frustration is more about the upkeep of the gym. I’ve been going to this gym for about 4 years consistently, I’m at the point where I finally decided to complain. I hope more people would take the time to leave a honest review.. just to help ensure a major improvement/ upgrades are made to the gym.
Few things, the smith machine has been broken for over 2 months (to be exact since May) there are about 6 stair masters machines only 2 are useable. The entire row of elliptical machines are broken. Sometimes there are no wipes, the gym mats are very old and unhygienic ..most importantly majority of the machines are outdated so it’s prone to failure.
I spoke to the Manager and tired to explained these things- my impression was that he is not a good listener or open to feedback especially from a paying customer. He was very combative and try to justify the poor quality of the gym.
To have a gym located in downtown silver spring with a growing demographic of young and professional people, it is indeed very lack luster and doesn’t live up to the standard.
My ask is to please make improvements to the gym, to ensure your customers have the best experience possible.

I want to start & say this review has nothing to do with the kind staff who work at this gym. They’re friendly and welcoming. Now….this gym has potential to be great but is extremely lack luster. The machines are outdated so they break down easily and mantience takes weeks if not months to fix machines. The smith machine has been broken for over 3 weeks and when the hip abductor machine broke it took over a month for its repair. The gym is moderately clean but the members refuse to clean up after themselves. Weights are constantly left on machines, bathrooms and locker rooms are not routinely cleaned or checked. Also this gym is ALWAYS crowded no matter what time you go. People inconsiderately workout in groups taking up machines for more than enough time (mostly teenagers). The people who go to this gym are quite entitled and rude. Again, the staff is really sweet.

So I recorded my conversation with whomever I was speaking with and I am going to release it over every social media as well as the vulgar Disgusting voice messages. Place isn’t too bad but compared to the la fitness in pg plaza some of the machines don’t work and only has 1 type of sauna while the one in pg plaza has both one that has more of a humid heat and dry while silver springs location only offers dry heat sauna

They need to keep up with the maintenance of the equipment. Certain machines while be broken for months at a time , unacceptable. The water fountains aren’t filtered even tho they may appear to be, same with sanitize wipes, they are usually empty. Other than that great environment!.

Absolutely love this gym! Travel nurse new to the area from Charlotte and the location is perfect. Jase helped me get into a great package that allowed me to be able to go back and forth from Maryland to NC with one single membership. I’ve stopped at several other LA fitness locations with no issues and for someone that’s always on the road having access nationwide is so helpful to keep up with my workout regimen. I was extremely impressed with the level of knowledge Jase bestowed upon me during sign up and have been very satisfied with my experience since. Great job LA FITNESS Silver Spring!

Shoutout to the Assistant General Manager (Jase) who gave me a very detailed tour, walked me through everything this gym has to offer, was very kind & funny. I’m still waiting for the managers information which I was told was forbidden from being shared or provided. Nor did he offer to accept my information to discuss this matter further with the manager. He explained the managers off on the weekend. My ask was to have his contact information. I will contact corporate accordingly. Moreover, I want to know why Eric your staff person stood at my locker while I told him I didn’t need company, and had to request a second time when the other staff person playing the manager arrived.

This place is great. I don’t understand any of the negative reviews whatsoever. I actually used to work out at the planet fitness around the corner, but I switched over to LA fitness, because of how well they keep this gym. It has a pool, sauna, basketball court, and all the amenities that you could possibly need. All for an affordable price a month too. Justin, the new gym manager, has really stepped up and kept this place nice!
Also, Paul is an excellent personal trainer, always taking his client needs into account. And even after hours he’s helping people with things such as canceling memberships when it’s not even during regular business hours. I’ve seen them around for the past couple of years and he is always enthusiastic about his job.

PET DOGS ALLOWED IN GYM?! This was absolutely disgusting to see a dog in the gym. The gym was supposed to be sanitary, particularly the woman’s locker room as you walk around the locker room to shower even in the sauna, but there was a woman there with her dog on a wreath where she obviously snuck in. We all reacted she quickly scoop up the dog, which was not a service dog and made her way out. She apparently snuck him in her jacket into the gym. This is absolutely disgusting and unsanitary. What’s gonna be next peacock? Armadillos? Lizards? This JIM has absolutely gone down in the fact that someone could sneak in even if she was going to use the bathroom and bring her dog on a leash and it’s totally unacceptable makes you wanna know which she even put the dog in a pool with no one looking this gym has gone downhill.

I’m certain LA Fitness employees have recently been stacking the reviews with 5 star ratings to mask the truth.
Honestly, this is the worst LA Fitness location I’ve been to, and I’ve been a member since ‘09 and have been to well over 10 locations. The only thing I hate about living in silver spring is being stuck with this location.
-Equipment is outdated or doesn’t work
-There are never any sanitary wipes
-Men’s sauna is consistently out of service
-The sauna door doesn’t close properly
-The new manager likes to argue with people
-There are mice in the locker rooms
-Soap dispensers in bathroom always empty
-Did I mention the sauna is TERRIBLE
-There is a huge hole in the wall
-Trash cans are used to catch water leaking from ceiling
-No employee enforces dumbbells being re-racked CORRECTLY
-And the sauna is TERRIBLE!
I decided to finally check out Gold’s Gym down the street and I saw over 15 old La fitness members there in one night. LA Fitness silver spring is going to lose its customer base if the company doesn’t finally fix this mess of a gym.

My honest review is that this is the best gym in the area. Nobody else has their variety of equipment (including pool, sauna, and basketball courts), and while some equipment lingers in a broken state for years, they generally fix the important ones quickly.
I do wish they would fix the ceiling leaks. I can't understand why someone can't just climb up on a ladder and take care of those. The number of leaks continues to grow, but it does not impede my workout.
Now for my gripes, since there does not seem to be a way to send them an email and I have never had luck getting a manager in person.
Will someone please fix the music? It was great back in 2023 and prior. The club was on a station that played full songs and it played a variety of stuff, where there was something for everyone. In 2024 it switched to a station that had no variety to it, and now in 2025 is has switched again to a station that does not even play full songs. It just plays the chorus from songs all strung together in a pathetic dance beat. I am certain that the national LA Fitness offers some options for the music station. Can we please go back to one that plays full songs?
There is a large mat for doing floor excersises, but it is about 50 yards away from any weights. When I want to use weights for floor excersises, I have to carry them the entire length of the club to get them to the mat. Nearly every time, I find that a staff member has removed my weights from the floor mat area if I step away for 10 minutes. This means I have to drag them all the way back over (I'm talking about 100 lbs here, literally). I have tried in vein to get the club to understand that people use weights on the floor mat, but no one cares. There are two options. Either keep a stack of weights permanently at the end of the gym with the floor mat or bring the floor mat to the end of the gym with the weights. Either one would be fine with me, but it is extremely aggravating to have to carry 100 lbs to the other end of the gym multiple times per visit.

Tbh, I don't like writing negative reviews because I know businesses have their ups & downs, but LAF has gone downhill & seems more money hungry than ever lately.
I cancelled my membership about a year or two ago, & was recently promised that improvements & changes have been made so to give it another shot- which I did. Not only are the same machines that were broken before still broken, it's still as unsanitary as I remember it. I've been trying to cancel my membership for over three weeks now & it's almost impossible as they ask you to come in person M-F 9am to 5pm, usual work hours for everyone.
I finally was able to make it in that time frame a few days ago, but of course the manager wasn't available. Apparently I had "just missed them" as they had to leave for an emergency.

I’ve been a loyal paying member of LA Fitness since 2017, but my experience on Saturday, 11/30/24, was nothing short of appalling. I brought my 10-year-old nephew with me, expecting a simple visit, but instead encountered an operations manager who clearly had no regard for customer service or basic human decency.
From the moment I arrived, the manager lethargically greeted me, immediately pointing out that I didn’t have guest privileges on my account and that my nephew was “too young” to enter. When I tried to negotiate for a reasonable solution, he outright ignored me, taking lengthy phone calls (15-20 minutes) right in front of me without so much as making eye contact. His demeanor was condescending and dismissive, and he clearly had no interest in resolving the situation.
I remained polite and composed throughout the interaction, even as he made it abundantly clear that he did not respect me as a paying customer. When I calmly asked why he was being disrespectful, he responded by telling me that I was “getting on his nerves.” Imagine being told that by someone supposedly in charge of customer relations.
When I asked if I could at least escort my nephew to the restroom, he dismissively said “no” without looking at me. Regardless of LA Fitness’s policies, my understanding is that local laws—particularly the D.C. Human Rights Act—supersede company rules, especially when it comes to denying a child access to essential facilities like restrooms.
To make matters worse, when I asked for the manager’s name, he reluctantly told me “Vides Edgar,” but his tone and body language suggested he wasn’t being truthful. When I questioned him further, he snapped, “I don’t work for you,” and even threatened to have me escorted out.
This behavior is absolutely unacceptable. It’s one thing to enforce company policies, but it’s another to treat a long-time member with such blatant disrespect and disregard. LA Fitness should be ashamed of the unprofessionalism displayed by this manager and should seriously reconsider how they train their staff to handle such situations.
I am deeply disappointed and will be escalating this matter further. For anyone considering joining this location, be warned: customer loyalty and basic decency clearly mean nothing here.

I’ve been coming here almost a year, and every week it gets worse and worse. It’s gotten dirtier and dirtier, machines breaking, the water fountains don’t work. That’s the worst thing, id assume that’s the bare minimum for a gym. I asked the employees if they had any idea when they would be fixed, and they had no idea.

The bathroom floors always reek of urine. I stopped using the sauna bc that smells gross too, I doubt it gets cleaned very often. Several of the weightlifting machines need to be fixed or replaced. Would only recommend going here if you have to. I continue to use this gym once or twice a week, just not very many options in this area.

I was offered a free pass in Downtown Silver Spring. I have a gym in my building so I wasn't looking for a complementary pass nor in a rush to use it. I received a harassing call from the same sales team, on a Sunday inquiring when I would come in. I initially explained my busy schedule call and that I did not want to be called any further. Instead of allowing the call to end, he continued to hound me about a date or time( which makes no sense) and then implied I did not care about my health or fitness by not giving him a specified time. I used a guest pass to work out here and everything went fine the first day. The website advertised the guest pass as a 3 day pass, so I figured the guest pass would still be active on the 3rd day of using it. Lo and behold, I arrive at the gym today (it was activated Saturday and today is Monday) only to be informed that the pass had expired. I figured it wouldn't be a problem - surely, they'd still let me have a complimentary workout given the confusion of their pass being advertised as a 3 day pass, yet only being a 2 day pass. However, a member of the sales team said there was nothing they could do, and, rather, attempted to get me to sign up for a membership or pay $20 to work out for the day. Realistically, they could have made an exception and let me work out that day, but, instead, they tried to coax me into purchasing a membership. I drove 30 minutes to get to this gym during rush hour, and paid for parking too only to have to leave immediately given the staff's unwillingness to honor the three days advertised on their website. This is a pretty sleazy tactic by the sales staff. They would have gone a lot further with me if they had just been cool about it and let me get a lift in. Instead, this just ended up being a big waste of time and money. I've worked out at many gyms before, and they were never this uptight about their guest passes because it leaves a bad taste in someone's mouth when you're this stringent about a complimentary workout. The pushy sales tactics at commercial gyms are becoming a nuisance. Let the equipment and environment sell itself when someone has taken the initiative to actually visit your gym. Apart from my awful experience with the guest pass, the gym itself leaves much to be desired. The dumbbells are completely disorganized like every LA Fitness I've ever been to. The equipment is pretty mediocre - not many cable machines nor squat racks. The gym culture here seems pretty much non-existent. There are definitely better options in the area if you're looking to work out at a commercial gym. Personally, I would recommend Gold's or Onelife. I certainly will never be purchasing a membership at LA Fitness.

The Silver Spring LA fitness does not have free parking or parking validation. The garage next to it suffices. I like that they have separate female sauna and a great zumba area.

Started coming here in 2021 and watched it deteriorate. Closed my account by 2024 because it was so bad. The staff Is friendly, but Management doesn't care. The sauna stinks, the bathroom is rarely clean, and it's overcrowded with teens playing basketball or crowding the weight racks so you have to come at odd hours to get a full workout.

LA Fitness has great customer service and the facilities are super clean! I really enjoyed my time as a guest here, Kyle and Cai are very helpful and friendly and all of the staff are also helpful and welcoming. Big gym with plenty of room and machines and equipment! Shower/locker room are clean as well. Hope to come back soon!

I would have rated this gym a 0 if I could. It is the most nastiest, filthiest gym I have ever seen. Customers as well as employees obviously don't care about how they work out or take care of the health and safety of others. The place is filthy, people throw their trash on the floor, no one cleans the equipment after themselves (lots of germs and bacteria). Hardly ever any hand soap in the bathrooms, bugs crawling around and slime on the walls in the bathing area. I would not recommend this location to anyone.

So I held out on writing this for a while but now I must because I gave them a chance to get above one star but they failed. Here is what happened; there was one locker (shown) that has had sweaty clothes in it for over a month. You can imagine how bad that smelled if you happened to open that. So one day I let someone know that the lockers really needed cleaning. The guy at the front was like "oh ok great thanks for letting us know we will get on it!" Two weeks later, still there. Literally these disgusting mold-ridden, ammonia-smelling dirty cloths growing a colony of an absolute biohazard have been sitting in this locker for over 2 months. I've been checking. None of the other lockers have been cleaned I think in 2 months either, they are dirty and grimy. Besides the gross men's locker room, there are more often than not no sanitary wipes to wipe down equipment. Guys... please, clean the locker rooms. There are machines that have no handles, so you can't use them. The staff is really friendly but I am sorry that just can't make up for being so gross. Please clean the place. (decided to give 2 stars because the staff is friendly, they have a sauna, and some good facilities).

I got ringworm from a mat at this location and there are not supplies readily available for wiping down work areas so I stopped using this facility, which was sadly the most convenient location for me.

Public safely hazard! Very dirty and unsafe place for health! Men’s locker room is filthy and smelly, the shower area looks like public dumpster. The swimming pool always dirty and if you mistakenly sip a spoon of water you are booked for a doc visit. Montgomery county should immediately shut down this place as public safely hazard!

Subpar and barely functioning! Class instructors are often NO SHOW .. members don’t receive any communication from gym and then advised to call during business hours! Wow They have an app they don’t utilize and claim they dont have a way to communicate with instructors. It’s a miracle if you enter the gym and it’s clean and things are actually working. Whirpool and sauna are hit or miss and front desk and “managers” could care less when you provide feedback or ask questions. For $50/ month at least provide welcoming customer service if the product you market is inadequate.
