The gym is mid. Many pieces of equipment are often broken. Mats and foam rollers disappear. Sauna and pool have been unavailable for long periods of time. Members camp out on individual pieces of equipment like they're moving in. It's super stuffy/hot and could absolutely benefit from a large ceiling fan. In my opinion, this gym is ideal for someone who needs an indoor workout occasionally but not several times per week.

If you’re new to the area, this isn’t a great gym to start. I signed up for a new membership trial to check it out and they emailed me a 3-day complimentary pass. I show up at 5am to workout the next day only for the front desk to tell me that I have to pay $20.00 for a training session because in order to use the pass, you just meet with the sales team at 8am. This is not stated on the website nor is it mentioned in any communication regarding the complimentary pass. Don’t recommend this place.

I’ve been getting into my new workout routine at LA Fitness, and overall, I’m really enjoying it. Derrick Bridgeforth was very helpful in giving me insight and getting me set up to start my 7-day trial, which I truly appreciated. However, there are a few areas that have impacted my experience and are worth mentioning. I started with the trial to see if this would be an investment worth continuing on a monthly basis.
Some equipment, such as the StairMaster—a popular machine—is often unavailable due to being scheduled for service. One of the main reasons I was excited to join LA Fitness was the sauna, but unfortunately, it has been out of order every day I’ve visited. From reading other reviews, it seems like this has been an ongoing issue for quite some time, which is disappointing and doesn’t inspire confidence in the value of a membership.
On the positive side, I love that they offer childcare during specific hours. As a new mom, adjusting to motherhood while finding time to work out has been a journey, and this feature is a huge plus for me.

Don't join this gym the equipment is old and the gym is always a mess and when something breaks it takes forever for them to fix it and the 70lb and 100lb curl bar broke almost a year ago and they still haven't replaced them

The gym hours are decent, although the gym could be open a little later on the weekends considering it’s not 24 hours. The pool, jacuzzi, and woman’s sauna was inoperable for over 3 months. Most of the equipment has out of order signs on it. They're 4 stair masters.. 3 are broke. Sometimes an additional stair master will work for a few days then we’re back to sharing one. Beside the free weights its been a persistent dead mouse smell. The music they play sounds like funeral or bedtime music. Most of the equipment is old and outdated. I have 3 gym memberships, I pay the most for LA Fitness and this Waldorf location is hands down THE BOTTOM!!!!!

I’ve been going to this gym for about a year now. I keep telling myself they will get better at repairing their broken equipment in a timely manner but it just gets worse! The water fountains have been malfunctioning for over a month now without any attention brought to them. This is a terribly managed gym.

I requested a 3 day trial pass online and was sent an email and text confirmation. Today, I arrived dressed and prepared to workout; only to be told that it’s normally against their policy to allow day passes if you’ve previously been a member.
I’ve never heard this rule before and was initially going to stay and workout until I was told that instead of the initial 3 day pass that was confirmed via emailed; I would only be allowed a one day pass because “he’s already doing me a favor and overextending himself” per the employee that assisted me! I decided to leave and instead use a trial pass at Planet Fitness in Waldorf.
I will not be returning!

I literally joined this Gym because it seemed nice and there was a pool and sauna.
The pool has been out for MONTHS (at least 6) and now the Sauna has been “scheduled for service” for the last 3 weeks. There are also a lot of treadmills and stair steppers that are frequently not working.
I mainly go when others are at work so I miss the busy hours, but damn like if I would’ve known everything in here was ghetto and barely working I would’ve chosen another club. 😒

After years of patronage I’m leaving. This place has gone more and more downhill as the years have passed. Today was the final straw. I was treated with blatant disrespect by the staff and they didn’t care who was looking or hearing. I never lost my cool, said thank you and left. However, I’ve written corporate and laid out details that they can 100% confirm with video evidence IF their cameras are even working.
This place isn’t clean. It stinks. Many machines are rusted in place and you can’t change/move levers to place in safe positions for your height. The pool hasn’t worked in months and the women’s sauna seems to be on its way to one month of being down - I believe we are in week 3. Other gyms that have no pool offer far superior equipment and amenities for a lower price. There are pools in the area that after the monthly fee you’ll still be paying less along with a different gym membership compared to this location.
Good luck being treated with decency and respect here. Nasty.

The front desk workers are always holding on to the check in scanner during peek hours. They watch customers coming in before presenting the scanner to allow customers to sign in. It’s a small thing but it’s very annoying. Why not just leave the damn device on the desk so customers don’t have to wait for the desk attendant to present it. Also the water fountains have been out of service for several weeks. This gym gets a lot of traffic to have these small details overlooked.

This location desperately needs a complete overhaul. The pool and hot tub have been closed for months, and now the sauna is also shut down for “scheduled maintenance.” Most of the machines are broken, old, and rusty. We members pay a hefty price for amenities that are either unavailable or in disrepair. The restrooms always smell like urine, and some of the staff are rude and seem to dislike their jobs. Considering the poor condition of most of the facility , we should be entitled to a discount on our membership. This is unacceptable! Every time I have a concern or ask a question, the staff seems clueless and unhelpful. I’m growing increasingly frustrated with this location.

We joined LA Fitness specifically because the membership included a pool. The pool has been down for several months now and the onsite staff has no accurate information on the status of re-opening the pool. Additionally there has been no clear communication to MEMBERS that the pool would be down for awhile. There is no membership fee adjustment for the inconvenience; nor direction that members can be accommodated at other locations. With more competitors coming to the Waldorf area including Crunch and the Charles County recreation center, I can see this LA Fitness experiencing a big decline in membership revenue if they don't improve services.

I just tried to get a walk through to see the gym and possibly get a membership. All three membership reps were on a lunch break without any coverage. I ask the manager about it and she went outside to look for a person. I could not understand why she just didn't do it herself. I was very disappointed in the customer service. All she had to do was do it herself. I would not have taken no more than 15 min. I just walked out and left.

I've always been a fan of LA Fitness. I was excited knowing that there was a pool at this facility. This was one of the main reasons why I joined at this facility.
Unfortunately, over the past couple months, the pool has been out of commission. Can't get a clear answer as to what's happening and when will the pool be opened back up for use....Im very disappointed....since this has been going on for over 5 -6 months. I could be wrong with the months, but every time I call up there, I get the same response that's never actually clear to me. It would be nice if a more clear cut response can be given.
I'm hoping the pool will open soon. However, it will be really nice if management would respond and share some insight on why the pool has been closed for such a long time....and give the customers an idea as to when they can expect the pool to reopen.

Every time I come to this location multiple machines are broken the pool is closed and one time I was told I couldn't use the kettlebells because it was in the personal trainer area when no one was in there. Why pay for membership when I don't get access to all the included equipment and services. Tried to cancel and was told only in person 9a-5p Mon-Fri and that only one person has access to the system to cancel???? What but everyone has access to sign up and take someone's money make it make sense. Never again I will go to the LA fitness in Waldorf. The absolute worst experience!
I came here with my mom and Shanice made the process so difficult that even if we wanted to purchase a membership we wouldn’t!
My mother had a free guest pass and I was about to purchase a day pass for $20. Shanice took us down this rabbit hole because she was trying to sell us a membership/specials etc which we were not interested in at the time. I told her I just wanted to get the guest pass for the day. She asked if I have my ID so I said I have it on my phone, she said no can’t accept the id on my phone but I can pay the $20, that way I won’t need no id. I said ok and proceeded to pay and another problem arose where she did not allow me to use tap from my phone. She then asked, “ you don’t have the card number ? “ I replied, “no.”. Then she asked if I can’t pull it up from my bank account, like what the actual France?!! No I can’t.
She never tried to make the experience a good one, in my view she just tried to hustle me some money.
She said she was the manager but her demeanor and responses were beneath that. Needs some training in customer service.
Waste of time.

I decided to give this gym a try and signed up for a guest pass. When I arrived, I handed over my driver’s license at the guest services desk, only to be told, “The guest pass is only for the cardio machines. If you want to use the weights, you’ll need to buy a day pass for $20.” How are you supposed to try out a gym when you’re restricted to just the cardio equipment? Total waste of time.

Don't come to this gym expecting to use the equipment you need unless you're planning to get into a fight: Hostile personal trainer at LA Fitness, Waldorf, instigates gym members who don't pay for personal training.
Here were just a few of the many gripes we've had with the gym, before the masked personal trainer incident finally drove us to cancel our memberships.
- Equipment is seldom put away properly (you can find the trainers snatching barbells and benches from the common area and taking them to the private personal training area, never returning them)
- Machines are frequently broken (e.g. a few months ago, three out of four of the stair climbers were out of order for weeks at a time; at least one out of the two leg extension machines are out of order at ANY given time)
- Long wait times for equipment, even during non-peak hours (good luck finding a bench or a squat rack)
- Staff turns a blind eye to members using the equipment improperly, slamming the weights even on selectorized equipment like the pulldown machine (probably why everything is almost always broken)
Long account about the personal trainer incident, if interested:
On Thursday, November 21st, my husband and I were working out at approximately 7 pm, waiting for the hip abductor machine to free up. As soon as the occupant left the machine, a personal trainer wearing a mask tossed his notebook on the seat of the machine while he continued to train his client on the adjacent hip adductor machine. Assuming the trainer and his client would use it next, we decided to do a couple more sets and continue waiting for the hip abductor machine.
By this point, about 10 minutes had passed, and the trainer's client moved from the hip adductor machine to the adjacent leg press machine. The hip abductor machine hadn't been touched at all during this period (except by his notebook, which at some point was moved from the seat to the item ledge on the machine). We figured the trainer just forgot about his notebook, so my husband started wiping down the hip abductor machine to use.
As soon as my husband finished wiping the machine off, the trainer turned to face my husband and said that he and his client were using it. My husband responded, saying he noticed they were on a different machine, and asked if we could just work in one set while they were on the leg press. The trainer firmly replied no, they're using it.
My husband called the trainer out for taking up three machines (hip abductor, hip adductor, leg press) all at once, saying it's not a good look to do that as a trainer. The trainer laughed incredulously, and said you can use this one (the hip adductor). That wasn't the muscle group we were training, nor the machine we had been waiting on for at least 15 minutes by that point, unfortunately.
The trainer kept arguing with us, saying she pays extra. (Mind you, this incident happened on the common floor, where all members are allowed to work out. The members who pay extra for personal training get their own, cordoned off training area outfitted with equipment like a push sled, kettlebells, and TRX gear not found on the common floor, unavailable to common members.) We pressed that you shouldn't be taking up three machines, especially if you aren't even super-setting on them. He laughed in our faces, and said "What three machines?"
Astonishingly, he then proceeded to hop on the hip abductor machine that we've been waiting for this whole time, and pretended to work out - on his client's time, no less. He said, see, he's using it, and that if we're upset then go tell the manager.
We left. We tried coming back to talk to the manager, but we never did get to consult her, because the front desk staff told us her incorrect working hours - twice.
I do not recommend LA Fitness, Waldorf.

I called a friend to see if we could start going to the gym together, and she shared a shocking and disturbing experience she had with the manager, Katie, after her 3-year-old son allegedly bit other children. My friend was in complete shock and couldn’t understand what was happening, especially since her son doesn’t behave like that at home. She’s been a member since 2016. The way Katie handled the situation was so unprofessional, I’m not saying nothing went wrong, but Katie, as a manager and one of the key faces of this company, your approach to conflict was completely bizarre. You shouldn’t be in that role. In Charles County, we have a strong community that supports local businesses. I won’t be giving you my money, and I will make sure to share how poorly you handled this situation. I’ve known Mayra for over 7 years, and I can tell you that her entire family and friends are incredible generous and supportive of this community.

I was a member of la fitness Waldorf md until yesterday I had been a member from the beginning since the gym opened yesterday I take my son with me to the kids club over there I was working out like usual in that particular moment I was in the elliptical machine and the manager came her name is Katie she didn't want to give us her last name so she came at me and since the very beginning she starts with her tone very aggressive with so much attitude and rudeness she didn't even wait for me to turn off the machine she just started talking and to be honest she scared me I had my headphones on I really wasn't prepared for her reaction of the Metter, she started telling me that my son had bitten two kids and that I needed to go get him I understood that, what I didn't understand was her reaction towards me and my son she were so rude I felt discriminate she was acting so aggressive telling me that I need it to discipline my child that my child is not allowed to came back telling me that I need to leave right away and she also proceeded to call the parents of the other two children and pointed out that I was the mom of the child who bitten their child I didn't feel safe she put me and my son in a dangerous situation first for not wanting to wait for me to get off the machine to talk to me then for telling the parents of the other children that I was the mom of the kid who bite their kids imagine if one of those parents were to get mad and take things badly towards me and my child that could have ended very badly for everyone so please don't use this gym I don't recommend it to anyone specially if you have kids they don't really watch the kids and then they blame the parents if something happens.

The gym overall is decent, with a good variety of equipment and clean facilities, but the broken hot tub is a big disappointment. It’s been out of order for months with no clear timeline for repairs, which is frustrating for those who enjoy using it post-workout. If the hot tub is a key part of your gym experience, you might want to look elsewhere until it’s fixed.

I left Planet Fitness because I wanted a gym that had the equipment and space for the training that I do. I have been a member of LA Fitness since April and it will be October in a few days and since I joined 2/4 stair steppers has been out of service and it has remained that way. Secondly, there is no space to do body weight type training (ex. Abs, lunges, pushups, etc.) other than 20 ft of space next to the cardio area so if there are 4-5 people using it you have nowhere else except in between benches that are usually in-use. There would be more room had they not blocked out a section perfect for this type of training strictly for personal training because they can get more money out of these people. If there isn’t a class being held such as kick boxing, HIIT, etc. then you can use that room for body weight training or whatever else; however, you will need to walk 50+ feet both ways carrying whatever weight heavier than 7.5 lbs to use for your session. There are 3 rowing machines…only 1/3 actually has an operable screen to track your workout and it has been this way since I have joined. There is one BOSU in the entire gym but that is also only for personal training even if it is not being used by the trainer or no one is training at the time. There is no basketball court here. There is 1 leg press machine that I’ve seen. They do have a pool. Staff is friendly. This is what $45+ a month will get you.

My experience at this location has been nothing short of pitiful. Everything is low quality, Employees, equipment, management, and policies; all piss poor. Membership was easy to cancel online after getting the run around but I tried to set up a time to cancel my personal training with Damien(the manager for personal training) and was dismissed and ignored out of pure pettiness and vindictiveness. I was already overcharged for my sessions based upon what I received during my sessions and spent the last year 1/2 watching the maintenance guy play legos with the machines and seemingly fix the equipment with bubble gum whereas there is never a shortage of maintenance signs on equipment. But to be blown off and passed off for cancelling before the end of my term unnecessarily is unacceptable. It is indicative of my willingness to forfeit hundreds of dollars worth of sessions in order to not go back and a culture of employees who are liars with bad character 0/10 do not recommend. Take heed

Beware dodgy business practices. I signed up to do personal training - I HAD to do a 12-month contract, and then month to month. Finally, I could not keep up with the sessions, and oftentimes the trainers would cancel. I finally canceled my contract, expecting that I could use my sessions up, but was told I had to use them within 30 days! I had thirty sessions left, and woudl have had to have done a session a day. I work full time and do not have time. So, be warned if you want to have sessions - I would suggest you pay for them one at a time.

LA Fitness–Waldorf has been slowly going down hill! I started membership at this location 5yrs ago and heavily considering going elsewhere. When traveling, I've hit up different facilities and even the older facilities don't compare to this one.
1.) Broken equipment–1/3 of the gym has “scheduled for maintenance” signs. 4 stair masters have been broken for over a year!! A few ellipticals and treadmills are now having issues. I'm fully aware things breakdown, but months to a year of no maintenance is crazy. The “when gym is full, limit cardio to 30min” sign is wild seeing it’s always packed and things are out of order. Also, the padding on a lot of equipment is cracked or missing.
2.) Cleanliness–Sanitation stations for wiping equipment after usage are a hit or miss. Most of the time, they’re empty. Everyone now brings their own wipes or Lysol spray.
3.) Bathrooms are ALWAYS out of soap and paper towels/toilet tissue and that’s a serious issue! 4 out of 6 sinks are broken.
There was an infestation in the locker room at one point where I seen the exterminator on more than one occasion. Them roaches were HUGE. I now carry my gym bag on me.
4.) Either the pool, hot tub, or sauna are broken every month.
5.) Water fountains working AND properly filtrated are a hit or miss (filtration replacement notification seems to be on a lot).
6.) Minor to me but something to mention, the trainers do NOT look the part trying to get people in shape nor are they approachable for those that have basic fitness/safety questions. The new evening staff are cool and respectable (it’s a revolving door for employees), but the facility needs a tremendous makeover.
I wouldn't be surprised in 2 yrs or less if this gym closes for major renovations, or another bigger gym popping in the Waldorf area and everyone starts migrating there. Time will tell.

This branch (Waldorf) of LA Fitness is the worst I've vis and it keeps getting worse. Since May the pool, hot tub, sauna and various gym equipment have been down for "maintenance"and it's a little annoying, but Its understandable given the frequency of use. But today, I walk into the ladies bathroom and I'm punch in the face with the overwhelming stench of sewer or a backup toilet. And if that wasn't enough I go to get into the hot tube and the smell is there as well, Yuck🤮. I'm done with this location. They ignore the complaints just like they ignore the maintenance and upkeep of this gym. DO BETTER!!!

Overall smaller in size compared to other LA Fitness locations. Very small locker rooms. Equipment is very close together due to lack of space. Also there is quite a bit of equipment waiting to be serviced. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, the gym is located in an lower income area. I have been too many other locations and this by far was my worst LA Fitness experience. Also there are NO courts at the facility, but yet the membership prices are the same. So I'm paying for false advertising.

I have read a good amount of negative reviews about this gym but I personally think this is a great gym. I have been to many other gyms in the area and this is the only gym that pretty much has every piece of equipment you can think of for weight lifting besides Golds Gym. Not only that, but nothing is worn down or old in terms of equipment. It doesn’t ever seem to get too packed in here either which is great. My one and only complaint is the locker room could be a bit cleaner and could use some upgrades. Besides that this is a great gym and has everything you need if you’re big into weightlifting.

This gym is straight up trash it’s hilarious. Customer service is arrogant as hell and think they know everything. Tried using a guest pass and was denied because they claimed I had an account before, that was a lie. I’ve never signed up or paid for a membership. They offered a day pass for 20 dollars. I told them to kick rocks. I’ll take plant fitness over LA any day lmao

This location is the worst in the DMV that I’ve seen. Stair masters are always down. Maybe 2/6 are operational (for the past few years). Only a couple bathroom sinks work in the mens locker room, since they shut them down for the pandemic. One of the TVs has not worked for close to a year. The flooring in the sauna needs to be replaced.
One of the two water fountains has been broke for month’s.
I only go because it’s so close to my house, but I prefer the locations in VA.
I gave two stars because the staff in the mornings are great.
Update: They are fixing the stair masters 9/27

Management, please take a walk around your gym and show your customers that you care by addressing some of these:
A) 4 out of 6 sinks were non-functional
B) 5 out of 6 Stair Masters were non-functional
C) Women’s showers were missing shower heads
D) There were no sanitizer/disinfectant bottles to carry around to wipe the equipment.
E) The rubber floor near the free weights is ripping apart
F) Many machines are missing the metal clips to attach different accessories such as bars, ropes, etc…
G) They recently removed the Battle Ropes that were in a terrible condition but have not replaced them with new ones yet.
H) Day time staff is terrible, however, the Night staff is professional.
I) MOST IMPORTANT: The water filter is not changed as often as should be.

I normally do not review gyms. I have been working out for over 15 years and this has to be by far the worst gym ive ever been to. First the equipments do not work, the cardio machines are broken, stairmasters to be specific. Additional, they have a sign on the wall that says cardio is limited to 30 minutes per person on days when there is high traffic. First, your cardio machines are broken! I personally think the gym needs more space!

As a frequent patron, their biggest negative would be broken equipment. The sauna, water fountain, and various equipment have all been broken at different points of the year. That being said, the facilities are kept clean and they provide excellent customer service. If you're only looking for a place to walk on the treadmill, and do some dumbbell exercises, I would confidently recommend this location.

The Sauna is frequently broken and stays down for extended periods of time. The bench coverings on some of the equipment are cracking from age and use and expose unsanitary foam and trap dirt. The rowing machines are old, wobbly, worn, and nearly unusable. Many of the bikes do not have foot straps. The price charged for membership here is premium, but the experience is not due to material conditions, though the staff is courteous and professional. I feel like I should be refunded for paying for facilities that I cannot use.

I would give this facility 4 stars based on cleanliness, professionalism for most staff, the attentiveness of the management staff, and the availability of equipment. However they get a 1 star review based on my experience of having a terrible personal training experience with a trainer who uses this opportunity to prey on women in the gym. To clarify not prey on me but ladies who have grown to become friends of mine. This should be a place of wellness for the mind, body and spirit not shame, deceit and humiliation.

So unfortunately they do not have drop in fees for out of towners. How does that work for potential members if I would refer their business to people that may be moving to the area especially from the military? I'm an independent contractor for 3 gyms where I live and all gyms I know here in NC have drip in fee's if someone wanted to come workout.

This facility is the closet to me but the least favorite and least accommodating. There are no shower heads on my of the shower spouts. This is very discouraging and there is no towel service. People pay over $30 a month to use this gym and you mean to tell me that you can’t offer a shower head to Women who sweat in the gym and use this facility??? Poor customer service and zero empathy for those who want to work out before work.

I work out here 6 days a week. I have recently found a cockroach in the ladies bathroom, the entire place and machines are absolutely filthy, and the broken machines are left broke for ridiculous amounts of time. Despite this the staff are super polite and professional and the people who work out here, mostly, don’t hang onto machines; they are on and off a machine quickly.

By far the worst customer service of any gym franchise. Dylan is bad at getting people to join this gym, very rude and arrogant. For him to be the GM shows this gym only values sales and quotas instead of customer service and providing a genuine customer experience, especially to potential members.

So this is an objective review. Location, great. Staff, always engaging. Equipment, adequate. Problems: After visiting multiple LA Fitness locations, in MD and other states as I travel, I can say that the convenience, location, cleanliness and staff are the only things that are compelling. Equipment is not on par with some of the other clubs. It's a relatively small club, so maybe that's the reason. Additionally, when the inevitable broken equipment occurs, it stays broken FOR MONTHS! That further compromises your workout. Water in the showers is lukewarm at best. I'll keep going there because I truly like the rapport, but I feel this club is not realizing its potential.
