A lot to like about this place. Very nice gym facility, with a variety of wonderful trainers and classroom instructors who genuinely bring out the best of us in this community.
Let me tell you something...you can do it all in your lifetime.
Updated 11.4.25
Lifetime Gaithersburg just lost its rhythm, its fire, and its fiercest warrior. After 10 years of sweat, soul, and sculpted glutes, our beloved instructor — the one who made AMP feel like a Beyoncé concert and Warrior Sculpt feel like a spiritual awakening with kettlebells — was let go. No real reason. No real explanation. Just... gone.
They weren’t just teaching classes. They were leading a movement. Their energy could power the grid. Their playlists could resurrect the dead. Their classes were so packed, you needed a reservation AND a prayer to get in. They built a tribe, not just a following — and we showed up for them because they showed up for us.
Now the studio feels like a dance floor with no DJ. A battlefield with no general. Members are wandering around like lost resistance bands. We didn’t just lose an instructor — we lost our glue, our hype leader, our reason to show up and show out.
Lifetime, this wasn’t just a misstep. It was a full-on tumble off the plyo box. We stand with them. We’ll follow them wherever they go — parking lot, rooftop, underground bunker — because when you find a rockstar, you don’t let them go. You build the stage bigger.
You didn’t just fire an instructor. You lit the fuse on a movement. Hope you’re ready for the aftershock.
Also, your fountain of floor 2 is broken.

I just want to come here and say Lifetime has my full commitment solely because of the people and staff. The front desk has been super helpful in my experience here.
In particular, Jaiden has always gone above and beyond to ensure all members are happy and welcome. I have had many questions and situations; he has resolved everything, and his energy is always vibrant. If you come to get a tour, ask for Jaiden because you will make you feel like you’re already a part of the gym and see the fantastic benefits through his eyes.
I’ve also been able to jump into the pickleball world at Lifetime. Everyone knows it can be very intimidating and scary, especially playing with the pros, but Caitlin, a pickleball staff member, has the kindest smile and is a ball of sunshine. She will always ensure everyone is included and welcome, no matter what level you are in the sport.
You can tell from the staff members I’ve listed that this crew will make your experience great. If you’re thinking about joining, do it!

Worst Customer Service I have ever experience in my life I had to switch to LA Fitness in Rio because their service is way better they treat you like your Gold. The people front desk always greet you nice . There is a guy named Jaden that works in front desk ladies be aware he tries to get your number only then to take you on a date and mistreat you. Please ladies consider going somewhere else this gym is not safe. The guy working there front desk abuses women and will verbal abuse you.

Jessica gave me a tour today — she was welcoming and did an excellent job explaining everything. I’ve toured a few other locations, and this one is definitely busier than the others I’ve seen. If you enjoy a lively club with lots of energy, I’d highly recommend this one. The views are incredible too! I signed up.

Customer service is lacking, I came in today and greeted the staff but they were too wrapped up in their own personal conversation to even say a simple hello. That really bothered me, b/c it felt rude.
The sauna is either always out of service or they find the worst times to clean it (when it’s really busy) Three times this week i couldn’t use the sauna b/c of poor timing or it being out of service.

Disappointed as I use to work here and cleanliness, like new and welcoming environment was top priority. Wallpaper peeling off, lots of drywall anchors visible, wipes commonly seen on floor. Witnessed a member on café yelling hello as no one was behind counter while team members sat at a near table watching and didnt assist and member just walked off. No greeting at enter or exit, all use to be common things. Still a great work out.

I came to Life Time Gaithersburg genuinely interested in joining. Instead, I left questioning the professionalism of the staff.
September 23: I asked about memberships. Rather than explain what the $219/month included, a staff member just rattled off prices, asked if I was 26 years old, and never explained the value. It came across as dismissive and unprofessional.
September 24: I returned for a scheduled tour with Robert. At the front desk—the face of Life Time—I explained that I had an appointment with Robert, the manager, for a tour. The staff member, Jaden, rudely told me there was “no one by that name as a manager.” When I asked for the actual manager, he pressed me about why I was there—even though I had already explained—and flatly told me no. When Robert finally appeared, Jaden dismissed me again by saying to him, “Can you get her.” He then lied directly in front of both of us, claiming he had never refused to get the real manager.
Even when I later spoke with the actual manager, Ihsaan Ali, who was respectful and professional, he promised to follow up the same day with an email containing the app information so I could join. That never happened, which left me feeling that my first two negative interactions weren’t being taken seriously or held accountable.
The frustrating part is that the gym itself is very nice, and during the tour Ihsaan gave me I could clearly see why people enjoy it. I really wanted to join, but the way I was treated—and the lack of seriousness in addressing it—made me think about what future interactions at Life Time would be like. Hopefully management will address their staff issues, because I would genuinely consider coming back if the professionalism matched the quality of the facility.

I usually don’t write negative reviews, but I feel this one is necessary. I was working out at Lifetime and had left my towel and phone on the machine while completing four sets. During my last set, my wife asked for help adjusting a seat on another machine. I quickly stepped away for less than a minute to help her, and when I came back, a trainer I believe his name is Bolou confronted me loudly in front of everyone.
He kept raising his voice, saying I couldn’t hold a machine and continued talking over me even after I explained that I was still in the middle of my workout. He was not only unprofessional, but while training his client next to me, he even used F language. That was shocking and completely inappropriate behavior for someone representing Lifetime as a professional trainer. I’ve been to multiple Lifetime locations (Virginia, Gaithersburg, Seven Locks and here) and have never had an experience like this. Most trainers are respectful and professional — I can even recommend a couple of great ones at this location. But this particular trainer showed poor body language, a bad temper and zero professionalism. No member should ever feel embarrassed, disrespected or spoken to with that kind of language at a gym, especially from a trainer. This individual needs serious coaching on communication, professionalism and how to interact with clients.
I would definitely not recommend this trainer Mr. Bolou to anyone looking for personal training at Lifetime. If you’re considering a trainer here, please do your research and choose carefully, because the way this trainer behaved was unacceptable!!!!!!!

My dad has a membership at this gym where he does yoga to help maintain his Parkinson's disease. I was visiting him from out of state and we thought it would be nice to do a yoga class together. I showed up with my yoga mat and water like I would have done at my home studio. The woman at the front desk produced a tablet to sign me in, but because I didn't have my ID on me, she said I couldn't come in. The next day, I brought my ID. The man at the desk told me I couldn't come in unless I downloaded the LifeTime app. The class was starting soon; I asked if they could help like the woman the day before was going to given I was from out of town and I tried to give them my ID, but they refused in quite a sneering, disdainful way that was publicly embarrassing. My dad was charged a "no show" fee for both classes. I will never be a member of LifeTime after experiencing that treatment. It was completely antithetical to the kindness of literally every yoga studio where I've practiced over the years. They do not care about you as a human being. They'd might as well have TSA agents at the front desk.

For 220$ WHAT. Customer service is horrible. I called about my lost water bottle at 6 am. No one picked up. Called at 10 and they said they could not check because it was too long since I had been at the gym even though I left a message at 6 am. Now I most likely lost my expensive water bottle at a place I pay way too much for because no one will check if it is at the gym. I have to be there in person? Now they also let the massage chairs free to anyone without a reservation. With someone with a back injury having to wait and not reserve is ridiculous AND unclean. The gym is HOT. and often times there are no cleaning wipes to clean the machines. I am not happy other than this being the closest gym to me with a yoga studio.

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the recent changes to the Normatec sessions. The experience, unfortunately, has become increasingly frustrating and far below the standard expected for the membership cost we pay.
Previously, online reservations ensured a reliable and efficient experience: spots were honored, equipment was prepared, and staff were available for assistance. Since the change to a self-service model, however, the process has been confusing and inconvenient.
• Lack of communication: I was never notified of this change. I only discovered it after waiting 12 minutes in the lobby—along with three other clients—for staff who never arrived.
• Reservations not honored: Although the system still allows us to book online, spots are no longer reserved. During my visit, not only was the Normatec area full, but so were other facilities. Walk-in users simply remained as long as they wished, without regard to reservation times.
• No accountability: When I and other clients approached reception, the only response given was an apology, as there was “nothing they could do.” This is both unhelpful and unacceptable.
Frankly, the service no longer reflects the value we expect. I know I am not alone, as I have spoken with others who are equally dissatisfied. What measures are being taken to address these concerns?
I strongly urge management to reconsider reinstating staff oversight to ensure that reservations are honored and the service runs smoothly. Time is valuable, and clients should not be left waiting indefinitely for equipment that was reserved in good faith.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

I tried this gym out for a short time. My wife likes the classes and instructors which is why I gave this a 3 star instead of 2. The place is packed all the time, this impacts the overall enjoyment of the facilities, which in my opinion are not well maintained. The men’s bathroom is a mess and feels stuffy and damp all the time. The outdoor pool is very warm and frankly a strange depth that makes it almost impossible to use for adults. I know people love this place and they can. It’s my opinion after just a few visits was this is not my sort of place. For the price of one membership I feel like you can build a nice little home gym and find a decent pay to use app for routines, if you have the space.

Some of the most rude staff you’ll ever meet at the smoothie bar. Not ALL of them, but on a Saturday at 1:30pm, during peak hours…the rudest staff I’ve ever met. They don’t answer questions. They don’t even look at you as you order. And they just sit it there and expect you to check the name…no smile, no have a good day, no nothing. Just rude. Why did I pay you $15 for a smoothie for you to treat me like crap? This place needs fixed. I’ll go back to Equinox where they at least have basic human decency figured out.

The front desk staff and outdoor café staff are always nice and welcoming. Not only do they greet me, but they also greet my 3-year-old. In particular, Kyra (I believe that’s her name), who has curly hair, is always so kind. My son looks forward to seeing her every time we visit.
My only con is that the family restrooms
are not always clean. Guests could do a better job of cleaning up after themselves.
Other than that, this is me and my son’s favorite place—we come about three to four times a week!

Great gym. I would say the best in the neighborhood for everything you could want. The staff is always helpful. The only bad part being how expensive it is and can get. Not only is the membership a lot there are a lot of things that cost extra here. Especially during the summer when the pool is open.

Went in for an impromptu lifetime visit with my partner who is new to the area & Ihsaan was super accommodating with giving us a tour, starting with a warm greeting at the front desk & kindly passing us onto Shawndre who was very knowledgeable and passionate about showing us around the facilities with respect to the other current members. Everyone’s really professional & personable. Definitely considering rejoining but at this location instead after years of going to another nearby one as it is a full-scale fitness facility with plenty of amenities. Gaithersburg has a pool (indoor/outdoor), Pickle Ball, basketball court, and a beautiful spa. It’s worth noting that they have a handful of therapeutic equipment used by athletes. They also have lots of classes including Yoga which comes with the membership as well as a few others which are paid separately. The outdoor pool is only $150 for the whole summer. We enjoyed an açaí bowl at the cafe & look forward to coming back!

Gym is terrible. Weightlifting equipment is old and worn down. Locker room is filthy. The price is not remotely justified for what Lifetime provides its customers. You can go to a way better gym in the area for less than a quarter of what they charge you here. Lifetime is outdated.

Gaithersburg Lifetime: Come for the Gains, Stay for the Existential Dread
The membership fees are sky-high—but apparently not high enough to spring for a couple signs that say Compact Only. If you’ve ever wanted to experience the thrill of trying to park between two oversized pickup trucks parked or avoid one sticking out before your turn around to the next floor, this is your spot.
Inside, it gets… spicier like a dirty Bloody Mary
This place might as well have a sign that says Finders Keepers over the lost & found. Left your prescription Guccis for 20 minutes? They’ve vanished like a free protein shake in a CrossFit class. Misplaced your Yeti mug? Someone else is sipping their pre-workout from it now. I’ve heard enough “lost item” stories to start a Lifetime True Crime podcast. At this point, I wouldn’t leave a toothbrush unattended
at this rate, you could wake up in the sauna dazed, dehydrated, and down a kidney. But hey, at least your Apple Watch will hit all your activity rings. Eyes bloodshot from
Too much chlorine
Would I recommend Lifetime Gaithersburg? Only if you’re into mystery novels, tight parking spaces, and rolling the dice on whether your stuff will still be there after a shower.
3 stars for the equipment, 0 stars for the parking, -1 star for the klepto energy ✨

Walking into Life Time Fitness in Gaithersburg feels like stepping into a city within a city honestly, it’s the Disneyland of all gyms. Everything from the architecture to the energy of the place screams next level. It’s not just a gym it’s a 3 levels of full-blown wellness resort with the vibe of a luxury hotel.
What really stood out was the incredible staff. From the front desk to the café to the trainers, everyone was kind, knowledgeable, and welcoming. A special shoutout to Ihsaan Ali, the concierge manager , absolute class act. His professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail made our experience even more memorable. That man runs things like a five-star concierge.
Also gotta give massive love to Kyra she was fantastic. Her energy was radiant, and she made us feel like VIPs from the moment we walked in. Interacting with her and the rest of the team felt natural, like reconnecting with old friends.
My personal favorite were the sauna, the steam room, the jacuzzi and the slides!
Also dont walk around barefoot in the bathroom areas, i recommend water shoes lol
Bottom line: if you’re looking for more than just weights and treadmills or stair masters and a place that actually makes you want to be healthy this is it. Highly recommend.

I’ve been a member for several years, and it’s disappointing to see the ongoing lack of cleanliness and poor management across multiple areas of the facility.
The family restroom is consistently dirty and misused. Adults without children are often allowed to use it freely, while families with young kids are left waiting. This has been happening for years, and despite bringing it up multiple times, nothing has been done to address it.
The women’s restrooms are also in unacceptable condition. They are so poorly maintained that I’ve stopped using them entirely. It’s clear that cleanliness is not a priority here.
The Kids Academy staff have been unprofessional on more than one occasion. When entrusting your children to someone’s care, professionalism and attentiveness are non-negotiable—yet that’s not what I’ve experienced.
And as for the LifeCafe, it’s shocking. I had to clean a table myself just to sit and eat with my kids. Even worse, I found a hair in my food. That’s simply unacceptable for any dining area, especially one inside a fitness center promoting health and wellness.
This isn’t about one bad day. These problems have been going on for years, and it’s clear that complaints are falling on deaf ears. I’m deeply disappointed in the lack of basic hygiene standards and the absence of accountability from staff and management.
I hope this feedback is finally taken seriously.

We used to live in the apartments next door and have called multiple times about them leaving the pool music on overnight, it disturbed SEVERAL residents and we couldn’t sleep some nights due to how loud the music was. After dozens of calls to the front desk, PLUS the city of Gaithersburg getting involved, AND after speaking with Lifetime corporate, they continue to leave the music on and have no regard for others in the community. The facilities also aren’t that great and the locker rooms are trash. If you have standards do yourself a favor and sign up elsewhere.

the deal with this gym is that the local management barely does the absolute minimum to keep the gym open
there is absolutely no effort to make sure guests have a pleasant experience - it's essentially a free for all once you're in the gym - you need to fight to use any equipment and the swimming pool is always blocked by people who use it to soak and relax - almost all of the staff at the gym are very hostile
I hope someone from LifeTime corporate office sees this message and sends someone over to replace the management of this gym.
definitely not a luxury club and not worth the high cost.

Review for Jess Flame – Barre Class at Life Time Fitness, Gaithersburg, MD
I’ve taken just about every class you can imagine over the years—spin, yoga, HIIT, Pilates, you name it. I’ve always loved mixing things up and trying new formats to stay challenged and engaged. I recently decided to give Jess Flame’s Barre class a try at Life Time Gaithersburg—and I can honestly say, it’s become a game-changer in my fitness routine.
From the very first class, I was hooked. Jess has a magnetic energy that instantly makes you feel both welcome and motivated. Her attention to form and detail is unmatched, and she somehow manages to keep the class flowing while making sure you’re engaging the right muscles, holding proper posture, and breathing through the burn. It’s the kind of class that sneaks up on you—the small, controlled movements don’t seem intense at first, but you walk out feeling muscles you didn’t even know existed.
What really impressed me was how Jess creates a space where everyone—from beginners to Barre veterans—can thrive. She offers great cues and modifications but always keeps the intensity and integrity of the workout intact. Her passion for Barre is contagious, and it’s clear she genuinely wants each person to grow stronger and more confident.
The best part? After just a few weeks, this class has become a staple in my weekly routine—and now, my daughter has even committed to coming with me. It’s become our “thing,” and it’s been amazing to share this time together while doing something so good for our minds and bodies.
If you’re even slightly curious about Barre, or if you’re just looking to shake up your workout routine with something fresh, effective, and empowering—go take Jess Flame’s class. You won’t regret it.

I’ve been a founding member since 2017, & lately LifeTime has been crossing their Ts & dotting their Is in care well beyond the “gym.” I’m a business owner & parent of 2 owner, & I find myself getting my workouts in of course plus taking majority of my meetings there. One massive improvement has been the child care management & their staff. My children love spending their 2 hours playing, creating, & learning while my wife and get our fitness on, or even take a family meeting. We recently had a question about our daughter attending some of their events for children 4+, but she’s 3 & potty trained. I received a private message stating that we were listened to, & that they’re now accepting potty trained 3 year olds! We felt loved. Lifetime is our 2nd home.

We absolutely love the Lifetime Athletic Kids Academy, and it has been such a positive experience for our family! My child looks forward to going every week, and a huge part of that is thanks to Ms. Mary. She is such a gem—kind, patient, and truly dedicated to the kids.
Ms. Mary has gone above and beyond to make sure every child feels special and cared for. Whether it's engaging them in creative activities, helping them build confidence, or simply making them laugh, she has a natural gift for connecting with kids. My child comes home glowing, eager to share all the fun they had, and they always mention how much they enjoy spending time with Ms. Mary. It’s clear that she genuinely loves what she does, and it shines through in how she treats each child like they’re her own. We’re so grateful for the care and attention she gives, and it gives us such peace of mind to know that our child is in such capable hands. Thank you, Ms. Mary, and the entire team at Lifetime Athletic Kids Academy for creating such a nurturing and fun environment. You all make such a difference, and we can’t recommend this program enough!

I absolutely love this gym and so do my kids, they absolutely love the kids academy! The workers are always so accommodating to my kids and they all seem like they genuinely enjoy the kids (which I know can be hard sometimes). A lot of them seem like high schoolers so it’s awesome to see them have fun with my kids. Only reason for loosing one star is that the manager of the kids academy, Dan Fisher, needs some serious retraining. Every single time I’ve tried to call or ask for something, I will get the same answer of “I’ll get back to you” and he never does! He never seems like he knows what’s going on and can be a little abrasive with you. Caitlin, the assistant manager, is always hands on and seems like she does most of the work! Otherwise the kids academy has been a lifesaver for me when I need to have some alone time or enjoy a class. 100% recommend!

This write up is from a month or so ago, but nothing has changed, despite multiple attempts to get management atten. .
This club is in decline. The amenities don't work as often as they work. Both the men's and women's steam rooms were out of order again today. The outdoor spa has been broken for at least three weeks. By the time it is fixed it will be winter. The men's spa is also not working. The towels are old and harsh. The shower heads have no pressure.
Today there was a fire alarm. The notification said nothing of the kids in the kids club, so the parents had to fight the traffic descending the stairs to get there, only to find out that the kids were being evacuated down the back stairwell without informing the parents. They evacuation announcement said nothing of the kids. Lifetime manages to inform me of every new way they think they can make money off of me, both with app notifications
and email, but can't do the bare minimum during what could have been an emergency. As soon as I check in I hear about the cafe and salon options.
Do better.

I have observed the behavior of the front desk staff member who regularly works the night shifts over the past several months and, based on my experiences, I believe her actions reflect racial bias towards Asian individuals. As an Asian person myself, I had an incident where I arrived with a guest just two minutes before the end of the allowed guest hours, unaware of the exact time restrictions. The staff member refused entry to my guest, even though we had traveled nearly 40 minutes to Gaithersburg. However, just two days later, I witnessed her allowing two African American guests to enter under similar circumstances. Additionally, I’ve noticed a pattern where she greets other members, whether white or African American, with a ‘Have a great night,’ yet she has never extended that courtesy to me. During check-ins, she remains silent and unwelcoming. This experience has been disappointing, and as a result, I will not be returning to this gym.

I am lifetime member for two years and I loved this place and trainers are nice.
But I had very horrible experience with front desk today and I am still so angry about it.
I usually recommend so many friends to enroll this fitness. Today I asked my friend who came from chicago to workout with me, front desk doesn’t let my friend go inside, they said after 8pm they don’t let guest enter. My friend wants to enroll but at least she needs to try and look around. So I begged him and explained her situation. But the front desk guy just repeated “it’s a policy”.
We actually didn’t know this policy before, I hope he could say “this time I can enter you, please don’t do this next time.” He totally ruined our mood.

This location is completely disgusting for the price we pay. Saw someone literally trimming their beard on the gym floor in front of the mirrors. More so social hour than anything else if you come between 4-5 pm and people are trying to keep two machines at a time. The bathrooms/locker rooms are always missing something whether it be soap, paper towels or actual running water from some taps. 1 star is too much for the standard at which lifetime is being kept. The price we pay should at least give us a cleaner environment but apparently that is too much to ask. Definitely take a tour to see everything yourself and why it would help you to decide against this gym

I really wanted to leave a good review but after being a member for multiple years there are just some things that can't go unnoticed.
In all the years I've been going there they haven't once wiped down the dumbbells so they have grown a coating of skin and mold that is just incredibly foul. (See picture). At this point they do require a deep cleaning.
The other thing that is very unsanitary is that they watered down all the soap in their bathrooms. For some reason they don't do this with the soap or shampoo in the showers, but the soap that foams is disgusting.
Another thing that really bothers me is that there's never paper towels in the bathroom next to the courts. There is also hardly ever any soap in there after 6:00 p.m. any day of the week.
The other issue with the pickleball and basketball courts is that the air conditioning goes out frequently.
Overall the gym is good and the people that work there are nice however a strong majority of the management is very lazy. They could simply have some employees wipe down the machines fill the soap dispensers and check on the paper towels more regularly however they don't.
Other than these really serious issues regarding hygiene and sanitation they do a very good job supplying towels, fixing machines when they break, and so on.
The only reason this gym is worth the price is because of the pickleball but overall the way they manage the place is kind of gross. 🫣

Management failed to give a reasonable accommodation to my sister, who has a developmental disability, and failed to include her in a program. Even more, they lacked compassion and empathy in their "customer service" toward the situation. Thought it would be important to share for families in similar situations, especially during Disability Awareness Month.

I really do feel bad for this gym. Great facilities plagued with members that steal, wear inappropriate clothing and do not uphold the class of this club. This is what happens when you don’t enforce the rules. I exclusively now go to Rockville which has better clients, but not what it was when I joined 10 years ago. Most of the patrons here belong to planet fitness level gym / behavior.

Even though the equipment and amenities this gym has to offer are very nice, the staff as a whole lack compassion and professionalism. We took our non verbal, autistic son to the kids club here a few months ago and the staff did not care or even try to give him a chance to adjust to this new setting. We were called over the intercom in less 20 minutes to come pick him up because he was not listening. When we arrived and tried to explain that he has certain challenges with new spaces, the front desk staff member just kept repeating he understands but our son still has to leave. This was very upsetting, but in retrospect we decided we didn't want him in any setting that had a staff that was uncaring and did not believe in being inclusive of all types of children. However Rockville's location is completely different and I feel as if the Gaithersburg staff could learn a lot from the staff at Rockville. It's like night and day.

This place is really getting on my nerve with their rules and regulations after COVID has hit. After paying much money I always feel I have been lectures on how to clean up after myself and the equipment. You can't use the work out
rooms even thought everything is included in the package when you sign up! I have been treated very poorly from the staff and the gym instructor telling me what to do or not to do. It's funny reading the comments from so long ago and the same remains true today if not worse. The Yoga studio is underneath the Dance studio and next to the Basketball Courts. So, you are constantly hearing stomping and pounding while enjoying your relaxing yoga session. The upstairs is barley in use and have little equipment. What a waste of space. Who designed this layout?
The padding on the machines are worn out and many ripped. At least fix it if you are not going to replace them. The Sauna got cleaned the other day at 9:30am. Why!? When there are so many people still at the gym and want to use. Why not do it later, like 11am. or at night to be ready in the morning. And the shower area stinks. Can you at least put some air fresheners or something to make it more pleasant and not smell like a sewer.
The manager at this place retired a while back and I don't think a proper replacement has been made yet.
For the price you are paying you would expect to get better quality out of a fitness club.

TL;DR Went down hill extremely fast in the last few months due to becoming over crowded. Lifetime Gaithersburg is essentially LA Fitness for triple the price. I've been to other Lifetimes (Manhattan, Chicago, Indianapolis, Minneapolis) and this place is far overcrowded in comparison. This gym has a higher population density than the mall after 5pm and getting worse. It is only usable early in the morning or late at night due to the crowdedness, especially during the work week. You will likely spend a lot of time waiting for equipment. The gym area and bathrooms are not clean. Management does not seem to care and isn't around to manage bad behavior.
Too many members, many are new to working out, and haven't learned basic gym etiquette. Members will frequently stand in my personal space and wait for me to finish my set in such a conspicuous way that it makes you feel uncomfortable. On several occasions, I have had people stand right next to my machine for my entire four sets and immediately begin to take over the machine before I had an opportunity to gather my belongings. The Boomers who do this will add the extra touch of staring at you throughout to ensure you know they are waiting for you to finish. Some people place their belongings at an adjacent machine but choose not to use it at all. However, there are regulars who are conscientious and considerate of others in the gym.
There aren't enough pieces of essential equipment and there is no one to manage bad behavior. There are only two leg extension machines (that are always occupied, often by those who sit there and text or simply sit there for extended periods of time, not just in between sets), not enough adjustable benches, etc. I've witnessed on numerous occasions teenagers bring a basketball into the weight area to practice dribbling skills. There's literally a basketball court and they choose to use the weight area instead.
Cleaning staff superficially vacuums the area. There is still significant dirt, debris, hair, stains, etc. around or in many equipment pieces. Surfaces are also not often wiped down. The folded towels that are provided do not always look or feel clean.
The ALPHA classes take up too many of the machines, especially the squat racks. They will take up ALL the squat racks as well as the astroturf on the top floor and not even do squat-related workouts. They do these classes at high traffic hours, making it challenging to work around. Some of the coaches are entitled and seem to have a chip on their shoulder and appear to be slighted if you are working on the racks around the class time.

I mainly joined lifetime for the steam room. But members are making it impossible to enjoy it. Half the people tamper with the sensor, either by pouring water over it or sticking a wet tissue on it, making it steam nonstop to a point of making it hard to breathe. Complaints to the front desk fell on deaf ears. I wish management does something about that before someone gets hurt.

Above and Beyond Service at LifeTime - Gaithersburg - Truly Grateful!
Last week, I faced the unfortunate predicament of losing my jacket and wallet with all my documents/credit cards and cellphone at Lifetime. In what could have spiraled into a day filled with stress and anxiety, the team Delante and Hisan transformed the experience into one of profound gratitude and relief.
From the moment I realized my belongings were missing, the staff sprang into action with a level of concern and dedication that was truly heartwarming. They meticulously searched the gym, retracing steps, and exploring every possible nook and cranny where my items could have been misplaced. Their commitment didn't wane; for over an hour, they persisted, combining efforts with a remarkable blend of professionalism and empathy.
What stood out to me wasn't just their determination to find my belongings but the genuine care they exhibited throughout the process. It was evident that this wasn't just a task for them; they were fully invested in alleviating my distress and ensuring my day wasn't ruined.
Thanks to their tireless efforts, my belongings were found, intact and untouched. The relief I felt was immense, but more than that, I was touched by the kindness and solidarity shown by the Lifetime team. It's not every day you encounter a group of individuals so dedicated to their members' well-being.
I cannot express enough gratitude to the staff Delante and Hisan for turning a potentially upsetting situation into a testament to the power of community and kindness. This experience has not only reaffirmed my decision to be a part of this gym but has also shown me the incredible spirit and integrity that defines their team.
To anyone considering joining LifeTime, know that you're not just signing up for a place to work out but becoming part of a community that genuinely looks out for each other. Thank you, Delante and Hisan for your exceptional service and for going above and beyond. You both have my deepest appreciation and loyalty.

As a full time athlete, and literally at the gym for hours in to lift for my career. They’re quick to charge you more and upcharge on other accessories for an unreasonable price while their machines are out of order for literal weeks to months, Jeff promised a 100 pound EZ bar, but literally for 4-6 months since brought to his attention they haven’t gotten a new one. How can anybody take a gym serious and pay a high price for the exclusivity if they no longer tend to the needs of people who wish to better themselves let alone their careers with equipment that doesn’t work and is out of order weeks to months ? Absurd. only money hungry, prioritizing customers with the higher pockets and giving their attention toward that then the serious person actually using the gym for what it is. Lifetime upper management to be precise the lead trainers and front desk really made this experience uncomfortable and discouraging. I switched out because there was a way better facility with an environment that accepts my goals with proper care to their equipment and atmosphere at a fraction of what lifetime offers. The lead trainer Jeff or management, always had something against me and I always minded my business. s
Side eyeing me, mimicking my movements when I would dance in between sets. Telling me to be quieter and be careful with weights. If I wanted to be managed and quiet I would pay a low tier membership like Planet Fitness where they would tell me to shut up and not make noise. Not in a facility that I pay 30x more. The side eyes, staring me down. The ONLY reason this gets 1 star is because when I traveled for work I was fortunate a lifetime was close. Aside from that IT IS NOT WORTH IT. You would think it’s an investment, but theirs community owned gym that take better care and put more attention towards there clients compared to this gym. The front desk management Rachel made my younger sister uncomfortable making her feel as if she wasn’t part of the gym, and my sister already being somebody going into an environment she’s still new, made her change her schedule because of Rachel energy that would be emitted towards her everytime she would come in. I speak as somebody who has been at this gym literally everyday for 3-5 hours in for 2-3 years now. I advise any new comers, especially high end athletes, do proper research as there is better gym surrounding the area that’ll provide better quality of everything than lifetime.

Revised edit as a former member: This location lost a star for increasing an already huge premium to become unaffordable for me. It’s a good location. Just very expensive.
Life time generally speaking has been losing me as a member because they just keep jacking the prices up company wide and have nothing to justify or show for the price hike.
Let me explain. Back in 2008 when I first discovered the gym back in its Austin Texas location they where a silver gym then shortly after they promoted the gym to gold I believe and that was the price hike. Then later I transferred to a higher level gym in Dallas area and they hiked the price again. Then I used the gym here in Maryland and they priced the hike again.
I’m terms of services back in 2008 they were at their peak. Lockers never had a moldy musky smell. Highly maintained. And super organized. Always refreshing to see.
At the pool area I always saw them running that little cleaning machine on the floors at regular intervals. The pools didn’t have a scum build up on the corners. And the water was always fresh and never stinky.
And at the price they offered this for it was a no brainer. They where the gym of choice.
Then suddenly the pool machine started running less frequently till it wasn’t run at all. The pools slowly started building a residue in the corners. And the water was more frequently dirty with a film above it with an odor. The locker room that was the example everyone should follow started growing mold and stinking up the place.
Staff became more complacent and didn’t actively maintain the place. And effectively they became nothing special and just like any other gym.
Then the price was increased and I jumped ship.
The gym in Dallas was a similar situation. But that one was in a bad area where they had to put a note to notify customers don’t leave anything in the car because they have a number of break ins. That gym was decently maintained at first. But slowly similar things happened. They hiked the price and I jumped ship again.
Here in Maryland it’s the higher level gym. So of course my expectations are set even higher than the other lower level gyms. But I didn’t see anything premium for the price that they offered.
While they did somewhat maintain a decent environment I didn’t see a difference for the price paid. The manager here is a very responsive and great guy! He is super professional and the team often acted on emails sent to them.
But I shouldn’t have to send emails to see actions. But at this location it was the first where they didn’t clean the floors at all at least during the times I was at the gym. Pool constantly had build up. Especially the hot tub.
And locker rooms reeked at times. You could smell it before you even got close. The team there always seemed short staffed because many times when I would walk in the locker room would be in disarray. And not really any staff in sight. One night there was a minor electrical issue and when I went to the front to report it nobody was there. Halls where empty and no staff in the locker rooms. It was as if it was just an open space with no staff. When the price hiked I left.
For clarity this is just my review based on my experiences. The company isn’t a bad company they are a great gym. I usually write reviews to see if they could do better. Holding the gym to higher standards so the could be the be best gym and justify their prices with the best service.
I still recommend these gyms. Just don’t hold them to a higher standard then any other gym or you’ll be let down just like I was. Hopefully their corporate can see this for future consideration and improvements.

Edit(8-21-2023)
My husband and I are looking for other gym options. We joined in January, and things have steadily gone done hill. The staff can't keep up with the influx of Summer guests in the locker room and pool area, so they are always trashed. There is ZERO staff presence on the workout floors, I have had multiple experiences where high school kids are double running on treadmills, belly-flopping into jacuzzis full of people, and this last time a group of middle schoolers started wrestling in the middle of the benches. Zero oversite is happening right now; at least get cameras for the front desk attendants. I'm not paying top fees when we feel uncomfortable using the amenities, and it no longer meets high standards. Adults without children are really getting overlooked.

Overall - it’s a nice gym but you can find comparable or better and it is nowhere worth the price. There is no loyalty to members - would not join again.
With new memberships starting at 179 a month with a fee, it’s laughable. I’m a nomad and an old lifetime member (off and on for over the last 15 years) and my mom is a current member probably for almost 10. Nothing has changed at lifetime in general and at this gym since it’s opened (I was here for this and in and out since) yet the membership has essentially doubled, they’ve removed family memberships, it’s more crowded, the pool is an extra membership (this made me laugh 😂) and they now look for any reason to raise rates*. I can’t figure out why prices are higher at a Lifetime in Gaithersburg than my Equinox memberships in New York and Los Angeles.
*Please beware they take every chance they can to raise the rates of members. They are raising by about $10 a year no matter what, but if you want to make any change to your account (not a change to your actual membership) it will result in an increase to your monthly membership price (todays increase was quoted +$20 per month if an adjustment was made). Maybe they want people to leave so it’s less crowded?
The gym itself is a normal large, nice gym. It can be comparable for equinox but still not up to par in my opinion. It’s still crowded many times during the day, especially after 5. Huge plus is that it’s got two floors one with standard weight and cardio equipment and a yoga studio and then the other with additional lifting, 2 studios, a cycling room, a turf area (this is my favorite for sprints) and boxing area. Love the variety! And I can find pretty much anything I want to do my workout (discs, weights, mats). The gym is easy to navigate and cardio equipment is usually open when I’m here but there tends to be a wait for some of the lifting equipment. Locker rooms are standard for a nice gym, I prefer equinox shower products personally. The cleanliness of the bathroom wasn’t up to my standards today but maybe it was a fluke.

Additionally they have great classes if you like that, a kids academy where you can drop off your child for up to 2 1/2 hours while you exercise. This activity also includes drawing, gymnastics, and other activities for your children. Additionally, it has a sauna steam room and Jacuzzi in both the female and male locker room, indoor heated pool and outdoor pool for the summer. I would highly recommend joining this facility even though some people feel it might be expensive. If you use it regularly it is completely worth the cost.

I love the gym. I don’t love the constant blasting music. Other than that, the facilities are very extensive, great classes, and generally pleasant people who mind their own business.

Nice facility and friendliest staff out of the DMV area!
I really enjoy the boxing area of this facility for its hanging bags plus a speed bag area for timing & rhythm work.
All the staff I encountered were very helpful and even showed us around the facility.
If you enjoy working out hard and getting a solid MMA or boxing cardio session in, Gaithersburg Lifetime Fitness is the place to go!

Love this Gym, you get a lot for your money, although it is on the higher end price wise. But, well worth it if you use the facilities!

I loved all of the classes offered at the kids’ academy. Everything from kid Zumba to Spanish classes and arts and crafts .

A decent selection of equipment, however, they don’t have a good preacher curl machine.

Yes it is better than the other places. But. I just returned there after a break and was shocked by the state of the women locker, particularly the showers area. It is dirty. Not like dirty after a few hours of intense use but like a neglected dirty. Please do a thorough cleaning, I know you can do it. Please don’t neglect the small areas. The walls in the stalls covered with a disgusting film, rust and dirt in the corners.

This is my favorite place and I will never go to another fitness club. The membership cost is literally worth every single penny. Added bonus, the yoga and group classes are out of this world. The staff are caring, fun, and friendly. If there is ever an issue, anyone of the staff are very helpful. Hands down, no regrets every month.

Great gym, and now they took the basketball courts away from us. In the main gym there used to be two courts now they have one court dedicated to basketball and one for pickle ball. There is never anyone on the pickle ball side but a full game scrimmage going on in the basketball side so you never have the chance to practice. You either have to wait 15-12 minutes to run a scrimmage with random people or can’t play at all. There is no more just shooting around or going and grabbing a ball and putting some shots up. I wonder if there is some compromise that can be done to let people still play basketball and pickle ball on one court.

You need to fix your basketball court, cannot even dribble on that floor.
Update: they made a basketball court into pickle ball court only, you can see so many people are playing pickle ball.

I moved to this gym mainly because they had two basketball courts. I was assuming there would be more chances to play. I find out that they have summer camp for kids on one of the courts. The other court, they removed the backboards permanently and placed pickle ball nets. So only time basketball is open is whenever there isn’t summer camp. Highly consider LA fitness across the lot if you’re joining for basketball.

$50 dollars to attend a gym for a single day is absurd.
