We have been a member at Merritt Clubs for well over a year now. It is an incredible place and the staff is amazing. They take pride in their work and the place is incredibly well maintained and clean. They are constantly making improvements and upgrades that make the membership a great value.

It is big enough that you have almost every piece of equipment you could need but small enough that you are never fighting for that weightlifting bench. Even when I go during busier times, I can get the equipment I need fairly quickly.

They also offer the most amazing kids birthday parties in the Kids Zone and water park. Darnella is truly a pleasure to work with and she decorates for the parties like she is preparing for her own kid's birthday. She demonstrates tremendous care with preparation and themes. Everyone was so impressed, I'm pretty sure there will be multiple other kid's birthday parties there next year.

I wanted to give a shout out for the aftercare program! Syeda and her team have made my kids feel so happy and safe the last two years. They are professional, responsive, and FUN! As someone in this industry, I know the difference between quality care and glorified babysitting and I would recommend them to anyone needing aftercare for their school aged children!

Beware before signing, only some amenities are available 24 hours.

I got a membership because I work 12+ hour shifts and wanted a place to work out and shower without bothering my roommate.

However you can only work out there using machines and treadmills, no free weights, no showering outside of normal business hours. A bit of disappointment, but understandable from a business perspective.

This gym has so much to offer and a great atmosphere. I particularly enjoyed the group fitness classes. Jenn and all of the instructors bring a great energy to each class. There’s a wide variety of classes for interests and times. Having the pools, equipment, classes, turf rooms, recovery rooms and more are fantastic to have in one facility!

Merritt is simply the best! I’ve been a member for many years, and it’s money well spent. I have attended many group fitness classes over the years as well as the more recent StrongHer program. The classes are amazing and I’ve enjoyed all of the instructors. However, the StrongHer program was by far my favorite investment in myself. It’s a women’s fitness and nutritional program dedicated to empower them to feel better about themselves through proper nutrition, exercising and self care. Stefanie is the instructor and by far the best fit for the job. She’s incredible, and will consistently encourage and motivate you to do your best. This program does not disappoint and will allow you to gain the confidence to take care of yourself, be consistent with exercising, eating healthy and gaining new friends! Ladies, do something for you and try it today.

In my humble opinion, this is the BEST fitness club in Carroll County. I joined about five years ago. Prior to joining, I checked out other clubs nearby and Merritt does not compare. Three levels, childcare, indoor/outdoor pool, top-notch trainers, and energetic classes. It is open 24 hours (one section of the club). I LOVE the sauna and steam room in the locker room. But what I love most? My trainer, Heidi. She has become such an important part of my life - not only in my fitness journey but being a cheerleader when life gets hard. I highly recommend Merritt Eldersburg location!!!

We’ve been members for about a year and have been very happy! I’ve never thought about leaving a review until we hosted a child’s birthday party at the kids zone and pool. I literally cannot say enough positive things about the experience. The kids and parents loved it. Darnella was so helpful and kind during our planning and the day of the party! She decorated the kids zone with such adorable decorations and was one step ahead of us the entire party! The decorations were all color coordinated and on theme. I got so many compliments from other parents!!
It was the least stress I have ever had planning a birthday party! She even sent a cute birthday gift home with us! We really owe the success of the party to Darnella and will definitely be back in the future! Thank you, thank you!

Need a gym near 21754 area code, urbana MD or Ijamsville area! All the gyms here suck! The only option is the ymca and is sooo limited. Between urbana and ijamsville, the population is a little larger than Canton in Baltimore. Sooooo you should definitely open up a gym here there's no question it would be packed!

The entire sign-up experience and information were not good. Firstly, a military reservist (actively serving in the military) is not considered military and cannot receive a discount. You should either educate your employees on the various parts of the military or update your policy to be military-friendly. Secondly, there was another episode with me trying to pay my yearly fees in full and up front; there was back and forth with billing and then brought a paper where I was being asked to write down bank information in ‘2025’. Spent an hour and a half in there couldn't sign up and got no workout.

I actually haven’t been able to attend this gym and do the aqua classes since I joined in the winter because of life’s circumstances and health issues but the management team has gone above and beyond to assist me with adjustments that needed to be made to my membership. Marc is an excellent GM! In a world where customer service and empathy has gone out the window, their customer service has been incredible!

My family has been coming here for 8 months.
A wonderful welcoming place that's has made as healthier.
We love how friendly the staff members are here. I love my personal trainer Frank as he is so nice not just to me but everyone at the gym.
We have loved the swim classes, the kids club(the only reason we are able to make it to the gym at all) , and the outdoor pool. It's been an amazing journey here and love how this has become apart of our routine life.

I have been a member for years it is has great equipment and is a clean facility. Recently had to cancel due to rising costs. I only use the equipment do not have a need for classes, child care, pool, I don't even use the courts just cardio, machines, and free weights. As this is all I am using, I recently deciding to cancel my membership to find something better priced. I wish there was a no frills option or plan that was just for the equipment and excluded everything else at a better price point.

We've been members of Merritt for several years, and while we like it, there's a lot of room for improvement. As a family with a small child, the outdoor pool and the Kid Zone (where you park kids to play on an indoor playground while you take a class or workout) are the best features. In the last year or so, class offerings are fewer and less varied, but instructors are kind and helpful. The instruction at the pool is top notch, but the scheduling of lessons means when enough kids are in, they divide the pool in half. There is no notice of this on the pool schedule, and it really affects the quality of general member use. Especially with South Carroll as the designated growth area of the county, they definitely could use a larger indoor lesson pool in addition to a recreational pool. While a lap lane is always reserved for member use, the few times I've used it, it's been three to five people to a lane, which is awkward. Parking on Mondays this January has been ridiculous too.

The gym is great, I’ll break it down.
-Turf to do sled runs, and farmer carries (Not many gyms have this!)
-Platform for deadlifts
-Plenty of cages for squats
-All the free weights you need
-A basketball court (The basketballs need attention though, they are deflated, and some basically need replaced.)
-Pool, Sauna, Steam Room…
Heck, the only way this place could be better is if they had a cryo chamber, but that’s asking too much or indoor rock climbing.. (But let us be realistic now.)

Their website clearly states that they’re open 24 hours, but that’s far from the truth. After signing up with the expectation of having flexible access to the facilities, I showed up only to find the gym closed during hours it was supposed to be open. This kind of misleading information is unacceptable. If you’re looking for a true 24-hour gym, this is definitely not the place. Very frustrating and a waste of time.

Extremely dissatisfied. I arrived as a guest to visit the gym and exercise for the day. My family holds gym memberships, and JEFF, the supervisor, requested my identification. I presented a photo, but he informed me that a physical ID is required. He declined my workout access, insisting on a physical ID and ultimately asked me to leave, stating that I was not welcome. The customer service was highly disappointing; his demeanor was disrespectful and unprofessional. I already showed ID from my phone! From my apple wallet! All my information is there to see! I really am an Aqua Therapy patient at Agape Physical Therapy which is located on the Merritt Eldersberg facility. Several inside and outside pools. The men's locker rooms are fantastic with sauna and steam rooms and perfect showers!

Once again proving that avarice and financial gluttony are the main drivers of some businesses, Merritt is culpable on many fronts. The first being that peak times of gym usage are getting longer. Obviously that is due to the fact that they have too many members. And yes, they have a decent basketball court, but fans of pickleball and volleyball, along with the times when the court is not tied up completely by the multitude of kids who are part of an after school program, occupy the court entirely for too many hours. I mean, the name is "basketball court," with the word "basketball" prominently featured. I paid more money than I'm used to paying for a gym membership but I'm not really getting bang for the overly expensive buck I'm investing in this gym. So, if you're looking for a good gym where the bottom line is not more important than customer satisfaction with the facilities, then you'll have to search elsewhere, because it seems as if things will only get worse at Merritt. Money will do that to you.

Merritt Clubs needs more stars. 10 out of 10. I joined Merritt on Sunday, and I keep coming back. I have met so many people including Jennifer King, Deanna Dovel, Michael Williams, Heidi, Annie, Melisa, Tutu and on and on. Everyone meets me and my sons with a smile. My kids play in the Kid's Club while I get a couple of hours to sweat, laugh, and enjoy making myself strong. Every time I go is a positive and enriching experience. I just joined Merrit Athletic Club last month with my family. The club is well equipped with exercise equipment, dedicated areas for classes (spin, body pump, karate, kick boxing, etc), racquetball & basketball courts and both indoor and outdoor swim pools. They offer child care while we work out as well. I have no complaints thus far and I look forward to my future working out there.
They are multiple locations in the Baltimore area where I can work out if I choose.
UPDATE: I'm still a member here over 2 years later. I continue to enjoy taking fitness classes ever week and using their pool over the summers. My kids had their birthday party here and my daughter has taken dance classes from their excellent program. From management, to the trainers, to the support staff, Merritt Athletic club in Eldersburg offers a top class and complete fitness experience.

Listen, I like this club. However the outdoor kids pool has the most ridiculous thing called “adult time” and it is every hour. Imagine you take your kids for a day at what appears to be a kids pool fully equipped with a slide and every hour they have to vacate the pool for 15 minutes because grouchy old folk want to swim in a KIDS pool. Mind you there is a huge ADULT pool with swim lanes that sits EMPTY. My toddler had a meltdown every hour the entire time we are there. It is enough to make me forgo the entire experience. This is a kids pool and kids should NOT be asked to leave. Shame on you guys. Adults can swim in the pool designated for adults! Just a completely horrible experience. I’ve never seen anything like it. Do better.

Definitely family oriented. Almost every time you visit, there are children screaming or music for a children's event so loud you can't hear through your own earbuds. Would be great as a children's facility but not for if you are just trying to workout. The steam rooms are a wonderful addition but not enough to counteract the other downsides. If you are a family with kids, seems like a great place. Going for just a workout? Another gym would be better for you. Staff is always friendly and helpful, though!

Which is more conducive to preventing the spread of COVID(and overall less gross): Providing your clients with towels for them to wipe their sweat, thus preventing the spread of germs and COVID or providing nothing so your clients sweat all over the equipment?
Merritt seems to think it’s cleaner for people to sweat all over everything. Absolutely vile and revolting. The manager should be ashamed. COVID is not an excuse considering towels will be washed after each use in hot water. People are not bring their own towels and we probably all know that people aren’t diligent about cleaning equipment after using it. Thank god I don’t live in the area and am only subjected to Merritt when I visit my parents. My gym in VA has been providing towels the entire time COVID has been around. I’m shocked at all the positive reviews on Google and how low people’s standards have fallen.

I needed a gym that was close to home because my former gym was becoming too much of a drive. This location, while more than double in cost of my old gym, is absolutely worth every penny. The facility is large and spacious, with many types of equipment. I mostly use the cardio area and light weights and there are plenty of those available even at the busiest of times. I have yet to check out the classes, but the rooms they are held in look nice and big with inspired trainers.

They are doing an abysmal job of enforcing mask wearing inside of a closed space with a lot of people. Every time I have gone in, there are numerous people sitting around without masks on, working out or not. It makes me feel unsafe, and makes me not want to come to this location to work out.

I am not sure why they are so lax with enforcement, but it certainly makes me question the value of my membership when even the most BASIC covid protocol isn't being enforced.

The staff are very friendly and professional. The facility is clean and the equipment is well maintained. I have noticed that the members are friendly and respectful to one another which makes it a comfortable workout environment. I recommend this gym to anyone who wants quality staff, equipment, facility and fellow club members. :)

I have been a member since June 2020 when Merritt opened again due to covid. I am an avid swimmer and am at the pool 3-4 days per week (The Eldersburg, Maryland Merritt). I love that their is no limit to how long you can swim or when you can swim. The lifeguards are so very friendly and helpful. They all go out of their way to make your experience as great as possible (Especially Tyler and Emily). The locker rooms are spacious, always clean and provide plenty of room to practice social distancing. Overall, the entire staff makes you feel like family. They make a point to greet you when you come in as well as say goodbye when you leave. The only suggestion I would make is it would be great if the pool could transition to salt water rather than chlorine which is so damaging to skin and hair. I would definitely be willing to pay more a month if this is a possibility. Again, this place is wonderful and I highly recommend Merritt to everyone.

Merritt Eldersburg has been a wonderful place for me and my family. I feel confidant leaving my child in the hands of the friendly kid zone staff. It's nice to know my daughter can get exercise and interaction in a safe space while I'm working out. With COVID I was hesitant to get back into a gym but they've done an excellent job with making sure everyone is spaced out appropriately and there are always people around sanitizing.
Every interaction with the people who work here has been extremely pleasant.

Left Athens 2 years ago because it was too crowded and have been at the Eldersburg Merritt since. Plenty of free weights to use even at the busiest times. Staff is extremely friendly. Brought an issue up that I had via an emailed survey and was immediately contacted by Rob who was extremely generous with the resolution. Some might say the gym is overpriced, but after taking a tour of Golds in Eldersburg and being a former Athens member, I say you get what you pay for. Merritt all the way. (I really wish they allowed lifters to use chalk though!)

Merritt Clubs Eldersburg is 10/10, EXCELLENT! I can not put into words the friendliness of the staff, abundant access to quality classes and instructors, cleanliness of the facility, and overall value this business has provided to me. Mental health is very important to me. Merritt Clubs Eldersburg has enabled me to be the best version of myself. The time spent here is invaluable and I thank everyone working at this location for their kindness. Shout out to JR for being an excellent Lifestyle Consultant. I had been away from the gym for a while. I decided to start back up now that I have more time on my hands since my kids can drive themselves everywhere. It was an easy process to resignup. Michelle has been great getting me setup with goals and monitoring my progress.
I really love the variety of equipment and find that I never have to get stuck doing the same thing all the time. Looking forward to getting into some classes!
