A decent bouldering facility with a gym included in the membership price. I don't know if shoes are included in the price as I had my own.
Pluses:
- They offer a 30-day membership for $115. A bit pricy, but that's the best short-term option if you plan to come 5+ times. A 10-visit pass costs $175, and a daily visit is $28.
- Gym has various equipment, including treadmills, ellipticals, rowing machines, weights, etc.
- Free lockers
- Free wifi
- Large clean changing rooms with a shower
- Friendly staff
Minuses:
- No top rope. The nearest top rope facility is outside of Baltimore.
- The place gets crowded after 5 pm on workdays and at any time on weekends
- Gym area is rather small with a restricted access to some sections during classes

Amazing facility, plenty of equipment and space to climb. In addition to climbing and fitness they offer excellent yoga classes. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and always ready to help. Many times they have gone above and beyond my expectations.

No longer for the community, and it's heartbreaking.

When I first started here, I read a negative review that described Movement Hampden as 'a cult-like environment,' and that's what my people and I loved about it.

It's lost it's heart. It's become just another sterile, corporate gym.

Really great facility, but the bouldering mats are rock hard and their core power shakes are $8! We don’t even pay those kinds of prices in LA lol total rip off.

Okay gym with a lot of great bouldering, but no rope climbing and dramatically overpriced for the value (currently 90-100/month). Even in Chicago, climbing gym memberships for comparable or superior amenities are only 70-90/month. Classes are nice, but similarly limited. Anything beyond intro is expensive even for members which is ridiculous considering the membership price. It's also always very crowded in the evenings due to being the only climbing gym in the Baltimore City area.

Accidentally pressed 1 star :( in fact absolutely love this gym!

My original post was from 5 years ago when I first moved to Baltimore. Now after visiting gyms around the country, including all gyms in the dmv area, and eventually moving to the west coast, this is still my favorite gym and I’m so happy to call it home for those memorable years. Miss it everyday.

Didn’t know how great this place was til I left. Route setters do a fantastic job, the wall isn’t too cluttered and the holds are clean. Constantly setting up new and FUN routes!!

Incredible experience. Loved climbing for the first time and the low level routes were really good at introducing me to the sport. I loved how inclusive the gym is. They are queer friendly and non-binary inclusive, which matters to me a lot. I don't often have good experiences at gyms that arent explicitly queer friendly. I left feeling great, winded and more than anything incredibly happy and joyful to be working out. Unfortunately I don't get paid enough to be able to fit their membership fee into my budget, so I'll just have to wait until a friend can bring me along for a free day or with a guest pass or something. It's disappointing, but that's the way life goes.

My favorite Movement gym out of the many I've been to. Bouldering routes are super fun and creative, appropriately and consistently graded. Balanced setting between technique and strength so even short climbers like myself can have fun and make progress on projects. Walls are reset biweekly but the gym is large enough that you have weeks to work on a project if needed.

Yoga classes are great too and staff are always friendly and helpful. Lots of parking out front and there is a coffee shop, ice cream place, and brewery with food next door. Love this gym so much that I travel from out of state regularly to climb here, my home gym in Philly is notches below.

Great place to climb, note there's only bouldering at this location no top rope. make sure to bring your student ID for a discount on day passes and monthly membership. Note they have snacks, drinks, gear and climbing shoes for sale--accessible without necessarily buying a membership/day pass.

Great music and a massive, correctly graded bouldering area. The size allows frequent classes and events, and they have an extensive weight area. They lack top roping, but the sister gym in Timonium makes this an inconvenience rather than a limitation. The staff are very friendly

First time coming here and it was amazing, I wish I got my teachers name but she was the nicest and had the best attitude. Rock climbing is awesome, definitely left with some battle scars but that’s what it’s all about, also way more peaceful and clean than the gym I currently go to lol it’s a nice breather.

I love Movement’s location in Hampden. I spent a year in Remington, and came here almost 5 times a week, both to climb and to workout.

For climbing - the routes are reset on a great schedule. Just frequently enough that the whole gym always has something new, but slow enough to give you plenty of time to project. It is bouldering only - no top ropes.

For the gym - big enough area to work out, even for someone that doesn’t climb at all.

The yoga is a great bonus as well. Fun variety of classes throughout the week. Instructors are super fun and accommodating for newbies - don’t be afraid to get in there!

This is a great bouldering gym. I've been going for over a year, and definitely can give it two thumbs up. Clean facilities (with showers and lockers available), full gym equipment, fitness and yoga classes available, and really great staff.

A wide variety of climbs are present for all levels, with pretty fun routes (at least I think so). I've been to a couple of other gyms (Movement and non-Movement) and I've learned to appreciate the decent slab walls at Hampden.

The community here is amazing, and generally pretty laid back and friendly. It can get packed in the evening, especially between 6-8pm on weekdays, but that is probably all gyms in general.

Bouldering gym only. The facility was clean and staff was friendly. My problem with it is that it’s not a great place for beginners or people getting back into it like myself. The V0s were fairly easy then going into V1s we’re a bit defeating. As well as every time I’ve come it’s been packed with people. Maybe it’s just me but I’d enjoy some more beginner routes.

I've been coming to Movement for nearly 3 years. I've spent more time here more than anywhere else in the city.

The climbing problems are creative and there are a lot of them to play with. Variety of ages, backgrounds, and skill level of the people makes it diverse and fun.

Everyone seems to work hard on themselves and climb with passion. It gives me the drive to do the same.

Very cool! The bouldering walls were great. There wasn't a lot of climbs suitable for semi newbies, it seemed to go from Intro climbs that were super easy to V1's that were pretty agrressive, but the gym was clean, well lit, and we loved playing pool, too! The yoga class I attended was also great. We would definitely go back if we lived in the area.

Great bouldering gym with a really solid weightlifting area and yoga studio inside it as well. Didn't realize how good it really was until I went to 3 other bouldering gyms out of state. The facilities are kept incredibly clean and organized -- and the style of routes (same color holds for each problem) make life incredibly nice.

Staff are also incredibly friendly and more than happy to help out. One staff member spent upwards of an hour helping me find the perfect first pair of climbing shoes to buy, giving me lots of great advice.

I've brought multiple friends and family here to introduce them to bouldering, and plan on showing it off even more.

Super clean. The onboarding process was really clear. The other climbers are polite but distant, so you'll have the space to climb uninterrupted, but will probably need to make an extra effort to make friends.

You can take the light rail and then walk for 15 minutes to get there or take the city bus which let's off about 15 minutes' walk away from this gym as well.

So...leave your car at home!

Dear Movement, I’ve been asking at the front desk for 5 months to get a gender neutral locker sign. Front desk folks have said you’re commissioning a wood burned gender neutral locker room sign. That sounds great but its really not that hard. Here is an example of something that would work:

The saga of Earth Treks - I wish so much that my review could be better. I've been a member almost since they opened, and kept my membership on pause ($8/month) for the last 1.5 years, first due to travel and then due to the pandemic. I've now cancelled for good.

Pre pandemic, there were multiple issues:

- Dirty locker rooms and weight rooms
- Overcrowding (indoor bouldering is pretty difficult and dangerous with no capacity limits)
- No safety oversight on the floor, e.g. groups of climbers performing daredevil moves and falling, children running around unsupervised, babies on the climbing floor, etc. On one day, I remember starting a climb, and turning my head to see a toddler running unsupervised toward my wall, after his dad put him down to climb himself, with no other adults around. I had to quickly get off the wall and hope I didn't fall on his kid. The staff were utterly unprepared to respond to the situation and also didn't know what to do when the father started yelling at me. (The right thing to do would have been to ban him for life, and never allow small children in the gym, especially not unsupervised, but this is certainly not what they did).

Now, with less than 55% of Baltimore's adult population fully vaccinated, they're completely dropping capacity limits and going with an "honor system" on vaccine status and masks. For a place that touts its support of disabled climbers, it's a weird stance to take at this point in time.

It's really a shame. I loved having a bouldering gym in town, and really enjoyed going there pre-pandemic.

Their communication about these changes was confusing at best. They cited a member survey that no members I'm aware of received. In general, their communication is scattershot and dismissive. Go at your own risk, apparently.

Great gym with a massive number of bouldering problems! All the problems set here are very fun and creative- I have climbed at a couple other big gyms before, and found that route setters at larger gyms often cater more towards higher levels, and the intermediate problems are pretty cookie cutter. Definitely not the case here- I climb V3/some V4, and find every problem here to be creative. Props to the route setting team

Great bouldering gym with lots of challenging climbing. Routes are changed frequently and the employees are super nice and helpful!

Visited this location last night with a couple friends. One of which is a member there. We all had a great time climbing but also watching the other climbers as there as some really impressive people at this gym.

A warning though, this is only a bouldering gym, there is nothing over 20 feet I would say but it is still a great experience.

Very clean grounds and facilities.
