I would give 0 stars if possible.
The manager and front desk staff here is only interested in talking to you if you can sign up for the membership. They didn't even honor my free pass. It's obvious what they care about here, incredibly poor customer service.

The cleanest gym ever! I have been coming more than a year and always amazed by how clean this place is. Many thanks to the cleaning crew (Delmar, Jose and Dennis) for keeping the gym so clean! It seems like Delmar is the only lady who cleans the woman’s locker room and with so many members going to the place I am always amazed how clean this place is. Not just the workout area, thr sauna, locker room, shower area, toilets everywhere! I hope they get paid enough and certainly deserve a raise :)

The classes are wonderful, too! Love coming to Linda’s dance class, Martha’s body pump, Phillip’s body pump and strength, Sam’s bodycombat & bodypump! They pour their soul and sprinkle magic on everyone.

The staffs are amazing too! Many thanks to Yina who takes care of my baby regularly in the kids club so I can work out worry free. She is lovely! As well as Nina, Tatanyia, Kesania (artist of the gym!) Rich and Skyler and many other staffs who work at the gym are just wonderful great people!

The best gym in setup of working and clean equipment, helpfull and happy staff and extras such as red light Therapy (RLT), Water jet massage and leg compression, large towels and eucalyptus cold gym towels. Parking is ample with 3 different entrances (free for 2:30 hours). I find this gym to be a much better place to go than the other gyms in the area with fancy Lifex names that are super crowded and full of snobie people from all sides and crazy crowded parking building issues with a single entrance.
The management of this gym takes a good care of it, its staff and guests. You can feel well appreciated and respected in this gym.

I went to this branch of One Life, looking forward to my first experience in a gym. I was referred to Lahni Saben. I explained all my medical conditions (not serious, but a need-to-know for training.) All went poorly in my mind. When I went in and told her that I thought WE might be working me too hard, she went off at me. I believe Her yelling lasted a good 10 minutes. I ended up at my doctor's office. A large group of muscles were severely strained. My doc wrote to them, explaining the damage done to me, and requested that they reimburse me for payment for training sessions where I was injured, but they refused. Doc also made it quite clear in his letter how much damage Lahni had done to me both physically and emotionally. In turn, they made it quite clear that they did not care. As a result, I cannot recommend this gym

Update: 9 months later and my tendons/ligaments have still not healed. Maybe teaching a child is different than an adult as they heal faster, but this is not fun...pain for a year when I exert that area. They really need to reveal credentials. Also I was told at One Life in Olney, where I visited once...that my size did not make a difference on a machine...it's just bold faced lie, and may be for every one of the One Life locations. Avoid One Life entirely is my best advise.

Love the gyms, but don’t like the fact that I’m my one day off. They only stay open till 7pm. Some of the locations only stay open till 6pm and one location stays open till 8pm. At a minimum, all locations should close at the same time 8 PM at the earliest Preferably 9 PM But I’ll take 8 PM consistently across all stores otherwise the gyms are excellent

Everything you need in a gym. If I didn't move across the country, I'd still be a member.

A wide range of classes and equipment that allows the gym to meet you where you are in your fitness journey, a good amount of regulars that you can become friendly with, and a general clean, positive atmosphere.

I'll miss this gym and the people! A lot of PRs set here.

The level of cleanliness in the men’s locker room is honestly disappointing. The sink area had visible grime and buildup, and the bathroom wall looked stained and neglected. The stainless steel trash can hadn’t been wiped down in a while it was smudged and dirty and the baseboards throughout the locker room were dusty and discolored, clearly overlooked.

This gym positions itself as a highend facility, but the upkeep doesn’t reflect that. Cleanliness should be non negotiable in a health and fitness environment. Definitely not worth the membership price if basic hygiene standards aren’t consistently met.

Update in response to the owner’s reply:
Rather than addressing the concern, it seems the gym is trying to deflect by questioning whether I’m a real member. That’s disappointing. I shared specific, visible issues that any staff member could verify by walking through the locker room. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, not sidestepped.

It would be a great gym overall if the trainers would actually train people proper gym etiquette. You shouldn’t be using pieces of equipment as a chair while your client does their workout, and your client shouldn’t be using equipment as a chair to take their rest. You & your clients should also be wiping equipment down when you’re done with it not just walking away! Additionally, trainers need to honestly stop talking so much about nothing, it’s distracting to other gym goers and not helpful to the clients. Especially if you’re talking problematic politics with clients loud enough for everyone to hear you over their own music.

This is the best overall OneLife I've been to in the DC Metro Area (never been to the recently-opened Tenleytown location). It has the best mix of convenience, location, equipment, and "niceness".

Awesome that it has a sauna, and the interior definitely has a premium feel. Only downside is that it's not as big as OneLife Rockville.

Overall a really great gym. The equipment is very nice and the gym is well equipped for functional training (they even have a SkiErg!). The recovery room is extremely nice. The only things I would improve would be to add heavier sandbags and flatten the outside turf— it is not completely flat so pushing the sled feels very bumpy. This is why I prefer to use the indoor sled.

Rich was so polite, professional and guided me to a fully functional gym.

Every machine worked. Everyone wiped off after their reps.

The locker room was clean. Showers are large, like walkin closests.

No one perverted. Young men 15-24, mid ranges til the elders.

Everyone had respect, and will make room for you on the bench. Changing or jumping in the shower(s) is inviting.

Hot water, full curtains and soap, conditioner and privacy.

If you want to join a gym" One life is perfect"

I joined to rebuild my body, loose some weight and to be consistent.

Every day. 6AM, nights and weekends.

You have to raise your heart rate. *And eat all food as portions.

This hunger feeling won't make me eat a lot.

One of the better gyms in the area. People talk about crowding, but even during peak hours, I haven't needed to wait for more than maybe five minutes for equipment to become available on the weight room floor.
I've tried most of the classes (there are a variety of options if your schedule allows), and the instructors are generally solid with good energy.
The amenities are a nice touch, with a sauna, clean showers, and massage chairs available. I've not had the issues with towels that others have noted, though the towel machine is kind of weird. (Pro tip: the small towels by the yoga room are eucalyptus scented)
You do have to sign up for a yearly membership, the cancellation fees are high, and you have to pay more if you want to visit other OneLife locations (this one doesn't have a pool). Also, parking at Pike & Rose can be tricky. But overall, this has become my regular gym.

I arrived at 8:55AM to sign up (the gym opens at 7AM on Saturdays) The front desk told me the manager is the only one able to give us a tour and register us and that we would need to wait until 9:10AM.
After we wait, he shows up and we sit down. This gym requires the following
-3 month minimum sign up
-50 dollar mandatory ‘improvement fee’ in April
-79 dollar mandatory sign up fee

This pricing ladder is outrageous, not to mention the manager was disrespectful and impatient.

This place is only getting worse. They are keep welcoming new members but they cant keep up with the volume and maintenance of the equipment or cleanliness.

Many equipment is broken and not functional. Creating lines at the gym and instead of management doing something about it they are asking members to limit their time on the machines.

They are upgrading gym in different areas and upgrading monthly fees to use those services like laser therapy or something. But importantly the immediate issues are unresolved for months.

For a little bit a hot water was a problem.

Now tower dispensers being out of order and at the desk they don’t even give you more than one. Well, a correct way will be more than one towel are given out selectively to some only.

Not to mention the club hours are literally a joke specially after COVID.

The club is not clean, it was much cleaner when they did not have towel dispensers. Thats most likely because they have less cleaning personnel too.

I hope someone starts to address the issues that’s happening at this place before it collapses.

Lastly this club does not communicate any of those happening at the gym and when one commutes a distance to come to the gym just to find out nothing is working plus u cant shower or dry urself is just definitely not worth the price they charge you monthly and quarterly. And give you very little to no options to cancel your contract.

Predatory sales practices. When going over the contract it was explained to me I had three visits to the gym, and that until then, I could get out of my contract if I decided the gym wasn't for me. I did decide this, and they are now saying they never said this. This gym is more interested in entrapping you in a contract than providing service.

I recently signed up with Onelife Fitness through an email ad offering free membership. The sign-up process took 5 minutes, and "Free" was prominently displayed in the advertisement(Yes very convenient! ). There was no disclosure, suggestion, or requirement to discuss the terms of service, including the cancellation policy, with a team member or sales specialist. I was led to believe the sign-up was free. Now, blindsided by the fine print, I have to pay a buyout fee to cancel my membership. This experience concludes my business with Onelife Fitness and serves as a lesson not to trust your establishment in the future. I highly recommend you change your business practices and stop taking advantage of people, or you will lose more customers soon.

Note: This review is after multiple calls and follow-ups with member services. The answer I received was, and I quote, "I guess this is the world we live in."

I signed up 3 days ago, i live in GA and i'm in Washington for work, i'm staying 4 minutes walking from this gym, turns out i can't work out here bc they're basically saying i have to pay $11 extra if i wanna work out here bc this is a different category or i have to do an upgrade, upgrade to work out 2 or 3 days bc in my hometown i don't need Upgrades, and i was told i could work out at any location. As a new member i didn't have a good experience feeling i was refused to use the service i just payed for 3 days ago!!! U guys should come up with a good strategy for ur clients, such as: "u have 3 days a yr for special locations" bc it doesn't make sense to do un upgrade for a location of a city where i don't live.

Pike and Rose isn’t a large property but Rich does a very good job of making sure it runs like a well oiled machine and people respect and like him for doing so. Unlike other locations, he enforces rules and therefore people now actually listen and do the things I’ve seen lacking at other locations like putting equipment back, cleaning the machines, not taking too long on a machine or allowing someone to work with you, no personal obnoxious phone calls. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the way Rich treats each person like he’s their personal concierge always in high spirits and always humble, he truly deserves an award bc there are sometimes 100 people in the wieght room but it works and that’s bc of the rules that Rich has somehow made everyone follow without even realizing it. I highly endorse him and his team.

Management needs to implement rules better. One member has been hoarding a bench and a squat rack for an hour now and is barely getting any work done. There are only 2 benches in the entire floor and 4 racks. I come early to avoid crowds and I understand that it’s a small gym, but if gym etiquette is something that’s not valued here, I’d happily move to another gym in the area.

Honestly I would give this gym 0 stars if I could. Not only is it extremely crowded at peak times, the classes are over booked and the showers all had hair in them. I don’t think I will ever return and outside of my evening tour and sign up I only visited 2x. And I’m stuck paying either 3 months to cancel or just keep the membership for the next 6 months. I will never sign up for services without reading the cancellation policy again. Lesson learned. I should have stuck with Corepower yoga.

If you're a parent to young children, your kids will love the childcare here. The adults are all super professional and even though we've visited the Rockville and Olney OneLife's multiple times (that have pools and indoor playgrounds), my two toddlers request Pike and Rose much more because they know they're loved here. Also, the manager "Mr. Rich" has been so warm and welcoming to me and husband and even our children! He's so kind that he even keeps a drawer in his desk with artwork that our kids make for him. You are better off going to a different one life location. This location has too many dumb rules, like no clothes in the sauna and you have to wear shoes while squatting (some prefer no shoes while squatting for better form). The trainers are also very rude and stuck up. I forgot my headphones one day, and was playing my music really low on my phone, and one came up to me and said “bring headphones next time”. I go to a different location now and they are more laid back and it has more space.

My recommendation is to go with LA fitness, lifetime fitness, or any other gym in the area. OneLife Fitness is run like a big corporate company and they do not care for their customers. They are only in it for the money and don't care about the community. With all of the locations they have in the DC, MD, VA area they are only interested in numbers...not people or fitness.

I originally joined the gym here at Pike and Rose several years ago when it was independent and owned by a company called "Sport and Health". This gym had an amazing community feel, great staff, the cleanest facilities, and light crowds. My wife and I absolutely loved it.

When Onelife Fitness bought the company and took over management, the gym quickly declined; mainly as a result of a huge increase in crowds. On busy days, it became impossible to get on the equipment you wanted. The only saving grace for the gym is that they kept the same staff working. The staff is incredible and I wish them the best but I do fear that OneLife's corporate structure will chase them elsewhere.

I recently moved homes and sent in notice that I needed to cancel my membership. I provided almost a months notice (as much as I possibly could). One of the lovely staff members that was original to Sport and Health acknowledged my email cancellation and informed me that hopefully by providing evidence of the move, I would not have to pay for an additional month of services that I could not possibly use. After providing evidence of the move, Jenna from OneLife Fitness member services interjected in the matter and refused to allow the move to be justification for membership cancellation. Even after asking politely, pleading my case, and the support of the nice gym staff, OneLife decided to shoot down the request. They are choosing to charge me and my wife for an additional month of services that we physically cannot use. They are happily taking our money for services that they are not providing to us. My interactions with OneLife were very disappointing and disheartening. They have demonstrated that they do not care for the customers and are only in it for the money.

I absolutely would not recommend going here.

I just moved to this area, and I’ve already had a OneLife membership, there is nothing online that states that this location is of a different tier yet when I walked into the front desk, they refused to let me in saying that I needed to pay a guest fee. What a horrible experience for a paying customer to be blindsided by additional fees that aren’t clear online nor do you get the same benefits of a free guest pass for a first visit that other nonmembers would get to be able to see if you even want to upgrade in the first place.
I’ve been in gym sales before in the past, and to dismiss somebody, or ask them to pay a guest fee before one even offering a tour, or learning a little bit more about why they’re there in the first place is beyond me. Poor sales skills. The front desk member was rude and I won’t be going back.

Fantastic gym. They're on top of keeping their equipment in great working condition, well-organized, and their entire staff and trainers behave with a level of professionalism and competence that competing gyms lack (e.g. Golds, LA Fitness, Planet Fitness, etc.). Whenever I've had an issue of any sort (very few over the course of my year contract), the manager Richard Mallon and his team handle it immediately and professionally.

I've since changed gyms, but only because another one popped up literally next-door to my residence (logistics). I'll continue to recommend this gym to friends and family who want to experience respect, competence, personalization, and professionalism.

As far as equipment is concerned, expect to see options available for powerlifting (deadlift platforms/squat racks/bench presses), bodybuilding (machines covering the entirety of the muscular system for isolation along with a Smith machine and many cable options with plenty of attachments), athletic performance (ropes, bands, tire flipping, turf section—both indoor and outdoor), more than enough cardio options, etc.

Their sauna, bathrooms, lockers, and showers are clean and well-maintained, and they provide both small and large clean towels.

The gym itself is well designed. However the logistics of canceling gym membership is buried deep inside a click wrap agreement in part 7 section 3. This important section which highlights your termination rights is hidden. I didn’t know I had to pay 3 months upfront to cancel it and without access to the gym immediately. It’s deceptive. Now you know!

Been going for a few months now at $50/m. - access to all gyms in area
- always kept very clean, and things seem to be maintained well (sauna wasn’t working when I joined but quickly fixed and better than ever)
- 2.5 hours free parking in the area, a dollar for the next hour
- gets busy at peak times where you may have to wait for a squat rack or bench
- plenty of room and equipment for cardio, stretching, and personal rehab (2 sleds)
- outdoor turf!

Update 04/30/2023:

It had been almost a year since I wrote my last update and there have been many improvements so I am upgrading my review back to 5 stars again.

Onelife Fitness Pike and Rose now has 4 squat racks which improved the situation considerably. I am glad to report that it no longer feels like a gym that only caters to powerlifters. There is also a much more balanced mix of members now (from all ages), just like it was before the pandemic.

Staff is great and welcoming. Gym is very clean and well equipped.

————————————

Old review:

Updating my review to subtract one star because of the squat rack situation.

I have been a member of Sport&Health (Pike and Rose) for over 4 years now. The gym itself is great and clean and the staff very friendly.

However, for those of you that need a squat rack, you may as well avoid this gym. There are three squat racks that are almost always taken. No matter what day of the week. Some members will even superset during busy times leaving the bars loaded in the squat racks. Others will just occupy the squat rack for over one hour during the busiest times in the morning. Members used to be very considerate of others needing to use the racks, but this has changed fast over the last year or so.

There used to be a 20-minute limit when I joined the gym in the squat rack which was lifted during the pandemic. Managers have discretely re-issued a limit now at 30 minutes, but you will see trainers and other members ignoring that every single day.

Once again, this is a great gym unless you want to use a squat rack. If you do, try one life fitness in Rockville or Lifetime.

The reason for the one star is because when I tried to cancel my membership I was told I had to provide proof that I’m moving ?? I was only offered a year membership and nothing else ???Based on this I agreed to the memes but I could not cancel until my full year of membership was up..I asked the manager when we were creating the membership “do you have month to month memberships and he said No”. So I had to sign a yearly membership or No membership. Fortunately, I did move and provided proof of my move and found a much better gym that allows you to cancel anytime and it’s much bigger and better just pricey.
I went to this gym for about 3 months and they stopped, wasn’t worth it.

Ladies and gentlemen stop looking for a better gym. Sports&Health North Bethesda is by far one of the best gyms in the DMV. From their facility to their staff they do a great job of making sure the environment that you work out in is clean and you feel welcomed. Their spinning instructor Alexis is amazing and her classes are out of this world, highly recommended! Would give them 10 stars!

I've been a Sport & Health member since 2006, first at the downtown Bethesda gym and more recently at Pike & Rose. Let me tell you, the Pike & Rose team is great. Everyone's friendly and knows my name. They go the extra mile, too. Yesterday, after my car broke down by the entrance to the parking garage, one of the staff came out and pushed the car out of traffic, all while making sure that another staff member was covering for him at the front desk. The whole team, from those at the front desk to the folks continuously wiping down the machines, vacuuming the floors, and keeping the place spick and span, also did a marvelous job navigating the gym and its patrons through the worst of the pandemic. I don't usually write reviews, but in this case I felt the need to make an exception.

Cool gym, nice staff, some AMAZING members. However, there are also other members with questionable behaviors. Some dudes would legit stared or followed girls around. Constantly got interrupted by people asking when you're done and just stood there and stared. Squat racks are usually taken by people who would just sit there for 1 hour despite the sign saying being mindful of time. Sometimes people would even RAN and stole the squat rack from you when they saw you walking toward it lol People don't restack weights, leave their towers on machines they don't use. Not really the gym's fault but more of the fellow members that ruined the experience.

8/10 for the gym, 3/10 for atmosphere. Personally, I will transfer my membership once my contract is up due to this, unfortunately...Good for going in and out type of workout. If you're looking for more spacious and "less rude members", I'd recommend going to an actual powerlifting or private gym.

I would like to edit my review since seeing the commend made by Sport and Health. I gave this gym two stars due to the way that they recruit gym goers and the difficulties surrounding cancelation policies. When I initially did the day pass, it was a tour then at the end I almost felt pressured to sign on. I explained to the recruiter that I expected to move a few months after signing on to the gym and I was told that would be no problem and to let them know when I would be moving for the cancelation. Fast forwarding to me moving and calling the gym to let them know about my cancelation and I was told that I would be potentially charged THREE MONTHS of my monthly membership. I was never told this when I signed up for this membership and explained that to the person I spoke to however I was only given a very corporate response. At the end the 3 month fee was "waved" however they still charged me for a extra month that I will probably never use. I will give the gym credit for its facility because it is nice however I do also think its a bit sad that you have to pay extra to visit the other Sport and Health gyms in the DMV in addition to the 50+ extra that you are already spending.

3.5/5 this is a vertical gym, three stories with two main levels. One of cardio and then everything else including an outdoor deck for bootcamp style work. The gym is newer but not state of the art. It is clean but not pristine. There’s lots of dirt and dust. I often come home dirty any time I’m using free weights or plates.
The crowd skews older likely due to the price and I can’t say it’s ever been too crowded, but there is often a wait for certain machines or squat racks in the morning.
The variety of equipment is 4 stars, plenty of things most people do not know how to use, so never a wait to use them.
I give it three starts because for the price you are still tied to one OK gym. Parking is annoying, no swimming pool or spa and you must stick to a 2hr time limit or you get charged for parking.
Additionally I don’t find the classes to be that great other than Yoga or Pilates. But even still they don’t use the reformers (that they have!) which is disappointing as I’d love to use them.
The price is about twice that of LA Fitness which offers pools, access to all locations and seems to be much larger.

I’ve been going to this gym for about a month. I really love it so far! Plenty of classes that are all included with the membership fee. The classes are rarely ever full. There are plenty of great cardio machines and free weights, nice showers and a sauna. The membership fee is super low (~60 bucks). Also, I feel super comfortable there because there are people of all ages and fitness levels. It is the perfect gym! So glad that I found it!

Update: Now I feel like I’ve been going to the gym long enough for a quick update. Love the gym, but the popular classes do fill up pretty fast. You can reserve your spot 24 hours in advance, so I suggest turning on your notifications so that you will get a reminder for the classes you want to sign up for. My favs are Carla’s Flex Yoga, Marlon’s Sprint spin class, and all the core classes. I just went to the Yoga Strong class with Jardine on Thursday and it was fantastic. Sun’s Power Yoga class is great too, but it’s hard, so be prepared. Can’t wait to check out more classes as I get in better shape.

I have been a member of this gym for about 6 months, and as others have stated, it is a well-kept and friendly environment. Their fitness classes are especially outstanding and I have loved every instructor I have had. However, dealing with their customer service is very difficult. I wanted to remove a member from my account at the end of January so I first called and was told I instead had to send an email to do so, which is a huge red flag to start off with. Every email I sent over the next 3 weeks with this inquiry was ignored (as other requests to add members were promptly answered ~1 day later). Finally, after sending a strongly worded email, my request was fulfilled (without any apology or acknowledgement of the issue) but enough time had passed that I was still charged for another month. I am quite frankly baffled that a paying customer could receive that kind of service--they obviously ask you to email so they can blow you off for as long as possible. I am not looking forward to ending my membership when I move away soon and advise members of this gym to request to do so AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE as they will take as long as they can to stop charging you.

Also, the "one day pass" that others have mentioned is indeed a completely empty promise, as they give you a tour of the gym first thing and ask you to sign up right after. They are very charismatic and crafty with their sales tactics, so beware.

RE: GREAT JOB PIKE AND ROSE SPORT AND HEALTH!!
2/10/2022
Dear Sir and Madam,
My wife and I have been members of The Sport and Health Club for several years now. The fact that your facility has been able to survive throughout the pandemic is no surprise to me. Employees such as Jay, Carolyn, Adam, Nina, Rich Abby and et al. are strong evidence that your corporation deserves to survive.
I know when we arrive at Pike and Rose we will be greeted by dedicated employees that are capable of giving us friendly, and knowledgeable experience.
A whole hearted “ Thank You All !!! ” for giving us one of the most pleasurable experiences we have been lucky to witness in the D.C. area!!!

This is one of the nicest gyms in the area. Its not too large or too small, perfect size for the typical crowds that it gets when busy. Great atmosphere, layout, quality of equipment, and staff. One of the best things about this gym is no large TVs hanging on the walls or in the air. So many gyms have large TVs with the news on constantly. This makes it hard to escape the bad news and stress of the world, which is why I goto the gym. Adding to the great design is the 3 squat racks on wood platforms is an ideal number for a gym this size. The separate section with yoga and pilates rooms provides a nice transition space to a calm meditation type workout.

To be fair, I've only been a member for a week, but everyone is SO nice. I've been to 2 classes (cycling and kettle bell) and it showed me how out of shape I actually am! I had a meeting with a trainer and we talked about my goals, took my body comp, and we really got down to what I need to do/train to get the results I want; I'll be training with him for an hour once a week since he knows my compositions and goals.
The atmosphere is great; no matter if the person is a gym-goer or staff! I am someone who talks to anyone and that may be part of why i connect with a lot of people, but conversations are always a 2-way street and I never feel as if it's unwelcome. Awesome environment!

Just joined this location coming from Lifetime and even after only my 1st workout today I am already won over. Joshua, who toured me and helped sign me up is amazing! So kind and genuine, if you have the chance definitely get him to help you out! Sklyer, the GM was also very helpful and made sure I was properly taken care of, even going out of his way to text and call me. The gym speaks for itself--very clean, nice equipment, plenty of room, and the outdoor space to workout is my absolute favorite. And I LOVE how even with it being in a busy location, there is plenty of room for everyone to workout, even at peak hours. Other gyms get so crowded, so I'm thrilled this one feels so exclusive yet is very inclusive. I saw all different ages and skill levels which made me feel confident working out there, even for the first time. The only worry I had after I signed up was the whole parking situation at Pike & Rose, but there's free 2 hour parking AND they can also validate. Problem solved, love that. In my opinion this gym is the best in the area, even compared to Lifetime and Equinox.

Knowledge and service attitude are crucial. At sport and Health in North Bethesda there is an abundance of positive friendly atmosphere. The services provided for members are very professional, friendly and comprehensive.
