You're welcome as you are.
You don't need to look a certain way, have a certain level of experience, or weigh a certain amount. OpenBarre combines Pilates, yoga, and ballet (minus the dancing) into low-impact classes that will gently push you without overwhelming you.

Such a clean studio with a wide variety of classes offered at different times! I love the thought and planning each instructor puts into their classes to make working out FUN & challenging. The owner, Lauren, truly cares about making Barre accessible and incorporates your feedback to improve the overall experience. Don’t wait - take a class today!

I love going to OpenBarre, especially in the morning. There's always a good playlist to keep the energy up, and it's a very welcoming and comfortable environment. I also love that you don't need any previous experience to be able to take the classes, and the variety of classes offered is also nice to switch it up throughout the week. And of course the workout itself is phenomenal, targetting all your muscle groups and making you feel stronger day by day.

I am not a natural athlete and working out is rarely something I look forward to. OpenBarre has been a game-changer for me - and for several others I know. I look forward to being in the studio, I enjoy the workouts, the time goes quickly, and I feel great after every class. I love the welcoming atmosphere of the studio, the warm and supportive tone set by the instructors, and the diverse array of people who show up for classes. Try a class if you’re at all curious!

Updating three years later because I am still a regular at the studio and still loving it. There are a variety of instructors, which I appreciate because they all have their own approach to teaching and their own playlists! Even if you haven’t taken a barre class before don’t be intimidated. It’s a welcoming place.

Love this studio and the range of instructors and classes! Especially appreciate the various class options that have been available throughout the pandemic like virtual livestream, the library of recorded classes, and outdoor options.

UPDATE: I just want to share that I worked out at OpenBarre throughout 2 pregnancies and it helped me so much. Particularly, while laboring with my second daughter I connected to my core in a way that I would never have been able to do pre-barre. I "breathed her out" in 20 minutes of pushing and was up and walking soon after. My doula was super impressed. I am stronger post partum because of OpenBarre!

I've never been crazy about group workout classes but wanted to give barre a shot. It's a great workout that focuses on parts of my body I forget when I workout alone. Best of all, the atmosphere of the classes is more relaxed, less of the cheesy stuff that often comes with group experiences. Love the instructors and highly recommend this place.

So much to say about OpenBarre in CP! I started at the studio as a first time postpartum mom. I was looking for a way to get back into working out but wasn’t quite ready for the gym. I took a few classes and then I joined the summer cohort class where my love for barre really blossomed. After the cohort ended, Lauren was generous and allowed us to purchase a 6 week introductory package for $99!! SUCH A STEAL! Since then I have consistently been attending classes and I love it so much. Each class is different and the instructors bring their own flair to class. It’s always tough but worth it. My body postpartum has drastically changed and I have been slowly getting my pre baby body back. I’m stronger and have more stamina which is necessary being a mom to a now toddler. I recommend barre to everyone!! It’s my safe space especially since I’m surrounded by women every class. It’s a blessing as a woman to have spaces such as OpenBarre.
*UPDATE*
If you’re a parent and you’re looking for a place for your kid to socialize and get some energy out LOOK NO FURTHER! Breathing Space DC uses the OpenBarre Studio on the weekends to host their Tot Yoga almost year round. They offer different classes for different age groups. I’ve taken my 2 year old daughter for almost a year now and it’s been so beautiful seeing her grow. She’s really blossomed from when she first started (a little over 1 year old) to now (2 years and 3 months). We love Mrs. Jessica who is also an OpenBarre instructor! She randomly does yoga poses throughout her day and she’s gotten quite good at it. I couldn’t recommend it more! Enjoy a photo of my baby girl randomly doing tree pose during her music class. 🤗

I just started last week and I am hooked. It’s been years since I’ve actually had an outside of the house exercise routine. On a whim, I looked for Barre classes in my area and found Open Barre. I went way out of my comfort zone and showed up at a class, not knowing what to expect. I started 10 days ago and have attended 8 classes, if that tells you anything. They offer a variety of classes and all of the classes I have attended have offered modifications for various fitness levels, or mobility limitations. I have bad knees and have been able to modify so that they aren’t killing me. If you’re on the fence, just try it. You have nothing to lose and you may just love it!
6/4/24 - Adding an update and some pics. It’s now been about 7 weeks and I’m still loving it. I’ve lost 10lbs and gained lots of lost flexibility. Each class is still challenging, and I still appreciate being able to modify.
They do lots of fun games and contests. April was bingo, May was a “who can take the most classes” competition that I won! Summer is “Around the World” and we earn “miles” for attending classes and other various activities. These little competitions and games really keep things fun and keep me motivated!

OpenBarre is such a gem! I waited much too long to try them out and am so happy I did. I really appreciate how every teacher brings their own unique style to class, but they are all teaching from the same curriculum and the same philosophy so nothing ever feels like a huge surprise. It’s clear that the teachers take time to plan out, thoughtful and creative classes to keep things fun for regular students, and they always offer. Lots of suggestions for making things a little easier or a little more challenging. The Community feels genuinely welcoming and diverse. This is not just another movement studio full of skinny young women in yoga pants. They have worked hard to create a space where everyone feels like they belong, regardless of age, body type, or fitness level.

A workout that gets results if you make it a habit. Parts are pretty intense and you will feel those muscles shake as they fatigue. But no pain, no gain! The teachers help you through the tough spots with encouraging words and short stretch breaks between sets. I am thrilled that this studio is near my home — I’m happy to say I’m becoming a regular. And it’s a woman-owned (Terp alum!) small business. All the more reason to support it. Love this place.

I love OpenBarre! I really enjoy taking classes here. I wasn’t able to attend a first timers class as my first class, but I have always felt welcomed and all of the teachers provide great instruction and cues during class, so it’s easy to follow along. I love the intensity of the classes: it’s enough that I really feel like I’m working muscles, but not so hard that I’m wiped out afterwards. I only wish that I had started coming here sooner!

OpenBarre is absolutely worth the hype! The environment is welcoming, warm, and inclusive and the classes strike the magical balance of achievable, modifiable moves to meet your individual body's need while also being challenging enough to feel the burn the next day (and sometimes even the next day!). I leave every class feeling supported, challenged, and accomplished! I even tell my friends and family that I've found an exercise community that I know I'll be supported in for years to come - as there are so many resources and partnerships/offerings for new parents, like the MiniBarre childcare on the weekends! I’ve been to over 300 OpenBarre classes since I started - and I hope to make it to at least 300 more!
I absolutely love everything about the OpenBarre community. Everyone is so accepting and encouraging toward each other. I’m a plus-sized woman with a disability, and I’ve often worried about “fitting in” at fitness studios and classes - after my first class here, I knew I’d be welcomed and have fun every workout. Each instructor I’ve worked with has been attentive to my needs and has offered modifications that work for me. I get to challenge myself without hurting myself, and every workout is scalable to your needs and ability - so as you get stronger, you can turn the intensity up! I’ll be honest, I never believed in post-workout endorphins until starting here. It’s incredibly personal and personable.
When I started at OpenBarre, I was not in a good place mentally/emotionally, but through my time here I’ve learned how to be a better partner and friend to my body. And I love the owner - she is so focused on making the studio a second home to anyone who comes through the doors.
I have also deeply appreciated the way they’ve handled COVID. OpenBarre is dedicated to protecting its most vulnerable members and their families, so they’ve been very careful to keep indoor classes focused on safety. But they’ve also gone out of their way to continue offering options that don’t require vaccines or masking, like their outdoor classes (which I’ve also attended, and I have to say, it’s really nice to close out a session under a blue sky, staring up at the clouds).
Basically, I love OpenBarre. Highly recommend to anyone of any shape, size, and ability, to anyone looking to improve their relationship with their body, and to anyone looking for a caring community.

I was so excited to find out this studio was so close to my house, and made it a habit to hit the 7/7:30a class. I’ve never had a bad instructor, and even when I didn’t feel like it, I made it to outdoor classes during the pandemic - worth it every time. I was so glad they prioritized our health, and there has been transparency since the beginning around how this small business was acclimating to a difficult situation.
I’m grateful this spot exists and can’t wait to get back into my routine there!

Before I moved abroad, I had never been more dedicated to a workout studio - or even a workout type for that matter - as I was to OpenBarre. This was definitely because on day 1 the owner, Lauren, and my instructor, Annie, were so welcoming. I felt like a regular without actually being a regular at that point. All the instructors were kind and patient and succeeded in creating a nonjudgmental atmosphere. Every class I attended had clients of all ages and fitness levels struggling through that "shake" together. I never felt stronger!
Shortly after the pandemic began, OpenBarre offered online recorded and live classes and I was once again able to participate! In line with their inclusive attitude toward fitness, OpenBarre has always been very safe regarding everyone’s health, ensuring that standards protect the higher-risk among us. Their health and safety precautions align with government recommendations and with those that many businesses have since adopted. Highly recommend this studio!

I’ve attended several classes at Open Barre. I was hesitant at first, given its proximity to UMCP that it would be all super young college-aged people (nothing wrong with that! Just not me!) and I would feel uncomfortable or intimidated. Not at all the case - I found the instructors to be welcoming and a good mix of people. I’m so glad they require vax cards for in studio classes because I have family members who are extremely high risk, and I feel a lot safer knowing they check. If for some absolutely unfathomable reason, you have chosen not to get vaccinated (or in the *extremely, extremely rare* event you have a previously-held, good faith religious objection or medical reason for not getting vaccinated), they offer a ton of other options including outdoor classes.

It's sad that you have to be vaccinated to attend classes. Not everyone wants to get that put into their bodies. They're motto is come as you are, any shape size or age. But yet they're denying those who aren't vaccinated, even schools and jobs are accepting those who haven't been. You never know if it's due to
Religious reasons, etc. What a way to judge! Just have them wear mask and stay 6 feet apart if you're that worried. Simple.

OpenBarre is an awesome local studio in a rapidly changing College Park. I love this studio because of how inclusive it is. The instructors cater to all levels and always provide modifications to make it harder to easier. The instructors are all very helpful and have stayed a few minutes after class to help my technique. The workouts are always different and use a variety of bands, gliders, sticks, and weights to make the workouts fun and interesting. My favorite thing about it is that despite getting a tough workout, it’s easy on your joints because there is no jumping. I have always had joint pain doing other workouts, but it’s been nonexistent in the few months I’ve been going to classes here.

I have had such a great experience at OpenBarre. I like to try out different types of workout classes and studios. I have learned that barre isn't my favorite type of work out, but I could tell after my first class at OpenBarre that perhaps I hadn't had the best experience in the past because I was surprised at how much I began to like the classes. The instructors are all welcoming and laid back. The classes have enough variety to keep me interested. They have implemented strict COVID protocols. At the time of this review, they have some classes outdoors, and the indoor classes require proof of vaccination and masking. All of the classes I've been to have been small (most of the time only a 2-3 other people) and I haven't seen a big increase in attendance when the university is in session. They also have everyone disinfect equipment after each class. I highly recommend checking this place out!

I've taken barre at 2 other studios and I like this one the best. The instructors are all very knowledgeable and professional, they don't blast the music so loudly that I feel the need to wear ear plugs and everyone is very friendly. Classes are good for people at most levels of fitness--not crazy hard for beginners and there are always modifications to make the workout more challenging.

OpenBarre is a great workout and community to be a part of. I love this low impact workout, it’s greatly helped with back and leg pain that I was having and helps create strong and lean muscles. All the instructors are so kind and motivating. This is my favorite workout. And now their online classes help me stay fit while staying safe at home.

Cannot say enough good things about OpenBarre Studios. Their online classes have kept me sane during this quarantine and i look forward to going back for in person classes as soon as we can! I started going to in person classes earlier this year and in just a few months feel so much stronger. The online classes offer great variety and there are always new classes popping up to keep the work outs interesting and different. Love the instructors and love OpenBarre!

Lauren is just an amazing owner, teacher and friend. It is extremely refreshing to come and workout at OpenBarre. Edited for covid-19: Lauren and her teachers started releasing online content for their clients the day after gyms were shut down. The clients of OpenBarre were able to transition to online classes immediately, and OpenBarre Online has so many classes to choose from now, both Zoom Live class recordings and in-studio recorded classes by the instructors. I rely on this studio for my workouts during this pandemic!

This indipendente, woman owned Barre studio is the BEST that I've been to! All of the instructors are wonderful, and I leave knowing that I got a great work out. One of the things that sets Open Barre in College Park above other studios is that they offer affordable rates and a laid back and friendly atmosphere that other studios lack. I highly recommend anyone of any age or skill level to try this studio!

I’m so glad I found OpenBarre! I don’t have enough good things to say about this place. All the classes and instructors are top notch—you feel comfortable and welcome while getting a great workout. I am currently pregnant and was a bit hesitant about what exercises I would be able to do—the instructors worked with me and provided me with various modifications to keep me and baby safe.

I started going to OpenBarre in College Park on New Year's Day and have really been loving it. The strengthening and stretching has been hard but good - i keep saying to myself after each class, "I can only get stronger, right?!" The studio has a very positive vibe both physically (lots of light, variety of music) and more importantly interpersonally (very welcoming and friendly). I was pleasantly surprised by the mix of ages, races, body types, and ability levels. The teachers are mostly around half my age, but they are very encouraging of each student to work at her (or sometimes his) own ability level. As a busy mom, the thing that makes it really feasible for me to commit to exercise here is the flexibility to choose the days and times I'm able to come each week - that is rare and very appreciated. There are multiple classes, seven days and evenings a week.

It's women-fun and women-led which I LOVE and Lauren (founder) really prides herself on creating a community in the area. The classes are a great size, equipment new and clean, and instructors are brilliant! They have new exercises and fun equipment to play around with every time I'm there. Couldn't recommend it more.

This place is so open and welcoming to people of all fitness levels and ages! I began coming here having not worked out for 3 years after the birth of my child. The instructors are encouraging and provide modifications to moves if you're not up for the full activity on that day. If you stop and rest for a bit, the instructors don't call you out and no one else in the studio even notices. OpenBarre has made me more flexible and stronger and I always leave the classes feeling like I got a great workout and feeling like I pushed myself as hard as I could that day. And, I love that there are so many different types of classes! It's always possible for me to find something that interests me.

This place has become a second home for me in the past several months. I've been a runner historically, but wanted to switch things up a bit so decided to try a group fitness class. Enter OpenBarre. The classes are incredibly challenging (and rewarding!) and the instructors are very friendly and encouraging. Lauren, in particular, is the studio owner and an instructor and is wonderful from the time you reach out to inquire about a class to when she's pushing your muscles at the bar.
I've always been very active, but barre challenges my body to perform in a totally unique (and awesome) way. I'm hooked and couldn't recommend it more!

OpenBarre has been helping me stay in shape for more than a year now and I credit Lauren and her team with regaining my core strength back after having two kiddos (no small feat). Although it burns (oh yes, those holds get me every time), it doesn’t jiggle 😂 and for that I am forever grateful. Love everything about this studio and the awesome community it’s built. Thanks #OpenBarre ❤️❤️❤️

Open Barre is a small, clean studio in College Park, MD. These barre classes are pretty classic barre classe compared to other similar ones. I love the studio's cleanliness and the price is reasonable. The quality of the classes you get depends on the instructor. For example, I love taking classes with Lauren, Anna, and Annie W. Some instructors are newer and do things a little bit differently, which can throw people off. (I do wish that the class structure was a little more aligned between the instructors). They also have a lot of outreach events, themed events, and fun things you can participate in, which are nice.
Overall, I would recommend these classes and this studio for sure! My only pain point would be that they sometimes do not have enough classes during the weekends/evenings - when I can take more classes.

Can't say enough good things about OpenBarre and Lauren! The classes are intense, but easily modified to fit whatever level of fitness you're at (even if you just had a baby!). I started taking classes last fall and am in better shape than I was before I was pregnant. My posture has also immensely improved and, thanks to a stronger core, some lower back pain issues I had previously have almost diminished. I have never been one to participate in a lot of group workout classes or to stick to a regular workout routine, but this place has me coming back multiple times a week and I couldn't be happier with the impact it has had on my body.

I've been going to OpenBarre since September 2017, and it's truly been the first gym experience that I've ever enjoyed. Lauren, the owner, makes sure to get to know each of her clients. She and the other instructors make the classes super enjoyable and understand that everyone is at different levels (they offer modifications to most of the moves). I enjoy that most of the classes focus on glutes/thighs, abs, and arms to get a full body workout. They go by so quickly! I highly recommend checking it out, especially if you're a beginner, like me!
