I have been working with Eric as a client at Pinnacle Athletics for two years now, and my experience has been truly exceptional. He has had a dramatically positive effect on my overall health, fitness level, confidence, and self esteem.
During this time, I have referred five clients to him, each of which came to Pinnacle Athletics at different ages and fitness levels, and with their own unique personal and/or health challenges, and goals. Each of them had a similarly positive experience to my own. I attribute this to the following:
#1. Eric develops a relationship with, and is invested in, each of his clients. He is very easy to get in contact with, and is always very responsive to texts. He is there for you when you are working out at Pinnacle Athletics, AND he is also there for you when you are working out on your own, to answer a quick question or clarify an exercise or stretch, etc. This is SO helpful and it means that working with Eric isn’t just about doing training sessions, it’s about having a fitness coach who really cares about the whole picture, on the days you are working out with him and also the days you are not.
#2. Eric treats the whole person and takes a holistic approach to fitness training. His extensive educational and practical experience enable him to address specific needs, and work around past injuries and limitations. He has a remarkable ability to tell exactly what you need, when you need it, whether it is increased mobility, flexibility, balance, or weight/resistance and exercise selection to increase strength and performance, etc. or, more often, all of the above. This is another extremely uncommon trait for a fitness trainer, and the mark of a real expert.
#3. Eric’s exercise and weight selection is second to none. He has an amazing ability to pair together complimentary exercises in ways you would never think of on your own, but which are so effective. This is clearly because of his deep knowledge of Kinesiology and his extensive personal background participating in high school and college athletics. He is also able to quickly pivot if needed, if a particular exercise isn’t working for you one day, for whatever reason. The same goes for weight selection, he has an uncanny ability to tell EXACTLY how much weight you can and should be lifting. I cannot tell you how many times I thought I could not lift a weight, or thought I could lift a heavier weight just to realize after a few reps that Eric was right AGAIN. It’s really crazy and once you work with him for a while you will see what I mean.
#4. Eric is a master at balancing semi private training sessions in such a way that it feels like private training. I say this from someone who has occasionally scheduled with him on odd hours when I was the only client, and I have also trained with him many times with multiple clients in a semi private training setting. I can say with confidence that the level of attention and quality I received was the same whether I was the only one there at that time, or if there was a semi private training group. He is masterful at balancing clients needs and can context switch in a dime.
#5. Eric is just a genuinely nice and likable guy, and he is also funny. This is something that might be overlooked when searching for a trainer, but it’s really quite important because training always has its ups and downs and if the person you are working with is a nice person who cares about you it really makes the tough days easier. He is calm, collected, educated, perceptive, intelligent, and he is very, very effective at what he does.
Eric is the real deal, a gem, and that is very hard to find.
I have also had training sessions with Brandon on days when Eric was not available and I feel they compliment each other very well. Brandon also crafts very effective workouts. I feel like they have different approaches to exercise selection, etc., but they get to the same end goal, which is maximizing your health and fitness. It is a joy to work with either of them.

I want to start my review by saying I’ve been to every type of gym; lifetime to planet fitness. What I see that makes PA ( Pinnacle Athletics) 5 stars is the individualistic approach to training. I work with Brandon ( owner and trainer) and he has a bandwidth to cater to multiple clients almost simultaneously. Knowing how to handle elderly clients, people just starting their fitness journeys and everyone in between within seconds, with so much attention to detail speaks to the passion, expertise, professionalism and dedication to his craft and clients.
I’ve seen almost every walk of life workout at PA and that really speaks to what Brandon and all the other wonderful trainers are about. Which is overall well being and health, which is absolutely priceless these days!

I’ve been going to Pinnacle Athletics for training for six months now and it has been amazing. Brandon is so knowledgeable and creates a customized workout for me every time I’m there. This workout is tailored specifically to me - for what I need to work on and improve.
Each time I’m there I am pushed physically and mentally to help me grow. I’ve already noticed results in my conditioning and strength. I went from needing frequent breaks to now pushing through the exercises with more intensity and less breaks. Brandon keeps increasing the bar to make sure I continue to grow.
In addition to the workouts, what I also love about the gym is that Brandon is there to help me inside and outside of the gym. We frequently text message and he answers my questions about fitness outside of the gym and nutrition. He keeps me accountable on nutrition and checks in on me often. He is very knowledgeable on all aspects of fitness, as he frequently answers my questions about breathing, heart rates, technique and how to improve in specific areas.
The gym as a whole is a great atmosphere filled with really friendly people who are all super supportive and there to grow as well. Other trainers there are also extremely knowledgeable and supportive. Eric is another trainer who has been great to talk to and work with as well.

I started going to Brandon Summer 2024 and he met with me to go over my goals, his experience in fitness training and how he could help me achieve my goals by November 2024. I met my goals by November 2024 and I will continue to got to Pinnacle.

I have been working with Brandon for about five months, and it has been an exceptional experience. We sat down at the beginning to talk about my exercise habits, past injuries, and current goals—mainly getting stronger to rid myself of back pain. He has done a great job customizing a workout program that has been challenging and rewarding, and he’s quick to adjust if an exercise doesn’t feel quite right. I started working out in this gym in 2023 with my trainer Rumbi. I was a old couch potato who hates working out and this young lady has totally changed my life! I feel so lucky to have discovered Pinnacle Athletics. I began training at Pinnacle with Eric about 18 months ago and I can see such a transformation in my body, my balance, my overall fitness and such an improvment in the nagging back, shoulder and neck problems I have had for years. This success and Eric's expertise as well as the overall vibe of this gym has motivated me to improve my fitness on other levels as well.
Eric is extremely knowledgeable (and has the education to prove it!) and wonderful to work with and he makes the workouts interesting and fun. He is very flexible and adjusts my workouts when necessary to allow for neck and back problems which I have dealt with for years so I can continue my sessions no matter what is going on with my body.
Pinnacle is a great physical environment also - and both Eric and Brandon and the other clients have all been pleasant and fun to work with. I look forward to my training sessions and continuing to transform my body and improve my physical agility. I have used other trainers in the past - no comparison - which is why this time I have been able to stick with it! Training with Eric at Pinnacle has made a difference! I'm stronger and more toned. Eric uses a wide variety of equipment and machines. It's hard but doesn't get boring. There's flexibility in the schedule for makeups. If I have any discomfort, Eric has a remedy. Incredibly impressed and happy with Pinnacle Athletics - starting from when I first reached out for a consultation to getting started with my personal training journey, its been smooth sailing to work with Brandon. He immediately reached out to get me scheduled for a consultation during which time we discussed my goals as well as any apprehensions I had about the process as well as any injuries. From this, Brandon tailored the number of sessions I would need with him per week placing emphasis on good nutrition and things I can do as “homework” to complement my training sessions with him. Each session is a different workout so I never get bored and there is very obviously a conscious effort to make sure that i’m being pushed beyond my comfort zone in the safest environment. Brandon is very personable and easy to work with - he is always responsive and very receptive to the limitations of my mind and body. This review is for a fascial stretch therapy session I had with Brandon at Pinnacle Athletics after a tough workout a few days before. It was about 1 hr long and I was told to simply relax the entire time. Brandon performed several range of motion exercises that identified which muscles are most tense, and with the help of a massage gun, paid closer attention to those areas to help them recover faster. He made sure to complete each stretch on both sides and assessed my flexibility, which I found I am greater on my right side. Overall, it was an awesome experience and definitely worth trying out if you're just curious or need alternatives to traditional massages.

In 2021, I decided to explore personal training options to strengthen my mental health and fuel my desire to straight up feel strong. Meeting Brandon for my initial consultation, it was clear he had my best interests at heart and he was willing to accommodate my strange day/night shift schedule as a nurse on the frontlines of this pandemic. Brandon plans/writes out my workouts and they are different every session. He helps set up each set and corrects my form so I’m exercising safely but effectively. I mean, all I have to do is show up! So far, I’m in my third month of personal training, and BOYYYY, do I see and feel a difference. I look good and I feel great! I used to wheeze and my thighs would be on fire climbing up the stairs in my home, but now my breathing is more controlled and I try to be thoughtful about activating the right muscles as I hop the steps. Personal training with Pinnacle Athletics has been one of the greatest investments I made in 2021 and I’m excited to see the continual payoff as we roll into 2022!

I saw Brandon for a Fascial Stretch Therapy session. He was professional, on time, friendly and knows exactly what he is doing. I went into the session not knowing how tight my body was and how much I needed this service.
Due to past surgeries/injuries, I am in daily pain and tend to favor the right side of my body. Brandon took all of my body's history into account as he began working. I was shocked at the end of my session when I stood up and had more mobility in my right hip area than I have had in years. In fact, it has been 3 days and an 8 hour drive since this service and I am still reaping the benefits of less pain and more mobility.

I had a really good experience in my stretch session with Brandon. He made sure to tell me what he was doing, was very thorough, and had different tools to assist in executing the stretch. I was super tight and stiff, but he didn’t make a big deal about that at all.

I used to be really active; however, after two years of working from home (thanks COVID), I had basically stopped moving. Normal everyday things began to hurt.. things like going up and down the stairs, bending over to pick up toys, and putting on my socks. Now, I have known Brandon for over 20 years and have used him as a personal trainer, and attended his bootcamps so when I found out that he was offering stretching, I was quick to sign up! Needless to say, I was out of shape and I lost most of my flexibility since I haven’t worked out since my youngest son was born in 2019. I was a little sore after the first session but I immediately felt less tension and pain in my lower back. If you or you friends have body aches and stiffness or just need stretching, I wholeheartedly recommend Brandon! Brandon Johnson, owner of Pinnacle Athletics in Columbia, Maryland, has been my personal trainer for about 10 years now. As I age (I’m 77) the workouts he designs for me have changed correspondingly. For example, he now makes more balance demands of me than when I started. When I’m injured he adjusts the exercises but not the goals. He still comes up with exercises I’ve never done before in most sessions. I have trained with several professionals over the years. None came close to giving me what Brandon does week after week.This guy is the real deal.

I’ve been personal training with these guys for the last 10+ years, so I was super excited when they opened their own place. It’s a great, friendly atmosphere. Not a gym filled with meatheads. Facility is clean, prices are reasonable. Convenient spot in Columbia, right around the corner from Wegmans. Workouts are always different and focus on getting you stronger and they’re especially good with working around any specific injuries or limitations you have. Can’t imagine working out anywhere else.

The gym has such a variety of equipment and is kept clean- the personal trainers would clean after each client and everyone was always so welcoming. Each trainer was always engaged with their clients.

Brandon one of the fist persons I met after moving from St. Croix, VI to Maryland in 2014. He is a great trainer, very outgoing and knows how to keep the sessions fun but productive.
