General Manager Ms Prout refused to allow me entry. Said it is against their policy to allow individuals to work out in blue jeans due to rivets possibly damaging equipment. My blue jeans are sewn and contain no rivets. This Planet Fitness is definitely not the judgement free zone they claim to be. That's okay, I have gone to many Plant Fitness locations in blue jeans. Left there and went to Severna Park and there were no issues allowing me to work out in blue jeans.

I had a very negative experience at this Planet Fitness. An employee treated me in a discriminatory and unfair way, singling me out and enforcing a rule only on me while other members were not told anything, even though they had larger bags on the floor. It was clear that I was being treated differently without any valid reason. I felt humiliated, uncomfortable, and unwelcome, so I decided to cancel my membership. No member should be treated this way

They have barbell racks now!!! AND they’re 24 hours. This gym is super spacious when compared to other PF gyms and it’s always clean with a good vibe. Everyone is always in there putting in work. The tanning beds could use a little TLC, but if they at least got the upgraded massage chairs that hug you I wouldn’t have even mentioned the tanning beds. No but fr this is one of the better PF gyms.

This gym has really gone down in quality. I worked out two days in a row in October, after having not visited in several months. The ladies room was not clean, with trash thrown on the floor and in some of the lockers. Also one of the showers had a huge clump of hair sitting on top of the drain—so disgusting. I reported these issues to a woman at the front desk, and she said that someone cleans the locker rooms every 20 minutes, but I did not observe that on either of the days I visited. There were a lot fewer people working out there than I remember when I was going more often, and I wonder if these issues have contributed to the seemingly lower membership. If I don’t see an improvement, I’m definitely going to end my membership.

I enjoy this location. The only challege is the numerous people that hog two or more machines at a time. When you confront them for usage, most of the time they will relienish usage of one of the machines. Other times they get a little annoyed. Other then this, nice location and good vibes.

I'm not sure what happened. They did a great thing by moving those yellow machines out of that 30 minute workout space. And then many of those were removed till they replenished again. Well, the replenishment showed really poor selection because there is only one shoulder press machine, and it's in disrepair. Nobody has bothered to fix it. And where is the tricep press? It is almost like leftover machines were dumped on this location. Only reason this location gets three stars instead of two is because there is ample space and many adjustable benches for dumbbell shoulder press and bicep exercises. Even when it's crowded, I am likely to get a bench for that. Also, the atmosphere is pretty good. People there are serious about working out and considerate.

The gym is great - there is enough of all equipment that you should be covered without needing to join a waiting list- but note I'm usually there at 5am. It is still fairly crowded at that time, though, so keep that in mind. Facility is clean, there's a wide range of free weights and machines that you could have a substantive workout. The machines have QR codes if you're looking for instructions on using them which is not my favorite, but it's fine. Also - and including this more as an fyi since its not something that management could necessarily control and certainly not a hit on PF but, it's not exactly a judgment free zone. People will stare and show off their impolite, judgmental selves almost like it's part of some nonsensical hazing ritual. It helps if you don't care lol and carry on, but having been a member of a more high end gym before I moved here, where this kind of behavior was not even a thing, I was a little taken aback. All in all, you could get your workout in and get out with a focused mind and targeted routine - just ignore the littles, they don't know better.

Thee worst Planet Fitness location in the DMV. I was in today and the whole facility smelled like urine. There were zero mats available so I headed over to the smith machine without stretching. Then, to my surprise a staff member comes over and tells me that I can’t have my bag on the floor. There are a million things wrong in this gym that he could have been attending to, but he took the opportunity to come disturb me. Unbelievable. I left and won’t bother returning. This location has been going downhill for a while, but it looks like it hit rock bottom.

I hate to have to write this review. This has been my home gym for a few years. I’m usually not bothered by the broken machines or leaks. But, this entire revamp worsened the quality of working out at this location. They replaced older machines that were plentiful with newer machines, just about one each. And lately with the teen program and kids being allowed to just roam and play on the machines, every visit I have to leave without completing my full workout. I even tried coming at 4:00am, same issue.

Additionally, though the veteran employees are great (and always have been), the newer, younger employees don’t speak, don’t speak back, and just scroll their phones.

Hoping this location returns to its former glory soon.

Been going to this gym for years…now something is always broken or even leaking. I also really do not like how they have the free summer teen program every year. Young kids are now taking up all the equipment and it’s always packed. This location also just had an equipment update and with this update they took out a lot of good equipment for more weightlifting machines which feels more intimidating….not really your friendly neighborhood gym anymore.

May 2025 this location closed for 3 days to renovate and bring in new equipment.
They layout is different now, they have more free weights, which is nice. Overall it's different but, I don't know if it's so much better though.
It's nice that most everything works now. I went last night to work out and they had two guys tweaking and adjusting settings on some of the machines. So that's nice to see that things are getting addressed.
The problem is NONE of the black card members area has been addressed. The hydrobeds, massage chairs, red light and tanning booths are all original from 20 years ago and don't work right, or at all for some of them. The men's bathroom is still lacking. Nothing was done there either. So how can you justify shutting the club down for 3 days and not repairing/replacing/updating any of that?!
I may have to look for a new gym. This is just absurd. I've been more than patient.

The customer service at the front desk is absolutely horrendous. It was my first time at this location and I needed assistance in changing my home membership to this location. He never offered to help. I came to this gym to use the tanning beds and I told him I had never been to this location before. I asked him where the beds were. He pointed in the direction of the tanning beds and that was it. I went to the wrong room (given I had to figure out where to go in the first place) and when I asked him why the bed wasn’t turning on, he said, “I told you to go to bed 2. Right there.” I went to the room with a 2 on it which was obviously wrong. On another note, it was probably the nastiest tanning bed I’ve ever been in. All of that to say, I will NEVER come back to this location and I hope the man at the front desk finds a new job. He is obviously miserable.

PF experience varies greatly from one franchise to the next.

Been at Bowie location for ~10yrs. Didn't realize how bad it was 'til I visited a diff PF nearby (Ft. Meade area). Night and day difference!

Bowie: Desk attendants constantly scrolling on their phones, chick filming her GRWM in the locker room, 4/8 recumbent bikes need repair (some power up, but have pedaling clunk instead of smooth), half of TVs are not working, and Black Card "spa" area is disgusting with junk/trip hazard in Beauty Angel room. I always clean 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘈𝘕𝘋 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 using the booth. Seen the same dropped earring lying on the floor for more than a month; obviously floors aren't swept.

Do better, PF Bowie. Black Card members like me pay more. I don't want to drive to Ft. Meade for a better experience, so maybe link up with them and get some help. ✌🏽

The staff is wonderful, they make you feel welcome. I've been with this gyms for some years. The ISSUES are lots of TV's are constantly out and the lights are Rediculously BRIGHT to the point it can give you a headache. I'm not the only one constantly complaining about it. The positive, the place is convenient, priced right and lots of equipment. The negative, pieces of equipment are down for a month at a time. The excuse, they only have one repair person for all the local PF. The place is not clean overall. They don't enforce any of the rules, folks constantly dropping weights, cell phone use on speaker and my biggest concern is that people don't clean the equipment after use. The staff, barely acknowledge you. Don't want to interrupt the reading of comic books. For the price I stay and that's it.

As someone who commutes to work this gym is the closest to my job/ most affordable in the area. However this means I have to shower, use the locker rooms and toilets which are all never cleaned and in horrible condition. The urinals don’t flush, the showers are full of mold and bugs and it overall smells like urine. There is a grimy film on the doors with dirt and dust everywhere. The soap is often also not refilled and trash left around. It’s shocking to me the bathrooms are in this condition. The overall gym is fine equipment wise but these bathrooms are unacceptable.

I've visited various locations and their strength equipment at the Bowie club was the absolute worst (i.e., broken equipment, ripped seats, missing padding on the handles, etc.). The one redeeming factor is that there was a sign that said that the facility will be closed for a few days this month, to upgrade the equipment. I'm moving closer to that location and was hoping to make that my home gym, but not if the equipment is that raggedy. Also, please maintain the women's restroom, that wasn't up to par either.

The gym has changed, so o had to change my rating. The staff are friendly, but 10 televisions have not been working out of 22. Some of the machines have out of order tags and some wobble when using them. It looks like the gym needs some tlc. Especially compared to other planet fitness gyms I've visited. I hope they will

This gym is okay. I like that it’s spaced out and has more equipment than a lot of the other gyms, but a lot of it is outdated. Not as clean as many planet fitness I’ve been too and the biggest flaw is it’s WAY TOO HOT!!! Please turn the temperature down like 2 degrees would make a huge difference. I hate doing leg day here because I don’t want to raise my heart rate due to the temperature.
