Thank you to Gus and the whole the team at PF. I was just in town for a few days over Thanksgiving. It was a bitter-sweet trip as my beautiful sister is struggling with major health issues. Gus and everyone was so nice. They delfines me in everyday. I uses the gym to get some clarity on the situation. To have a place to excersize, reflect and grieve in a healthy way. You never know what someone is going though and they made me feel welcomed. Their kindness was really appreciated. I want to wish the whole staff there a happy holiday season and all the best. I’ve been a member at this Planet Fitness location for over six months. During this time, I’ve had mixed experiences with the staff—some employees are friendly, greet you with a smile, and make you feel welcome, while others rarely acknowledge members unless their manager is nearby. Basic courtesy feels inconsistent.

A large portion of the equipment is broken or not functioning properly, and the staff seems aware of it. For example, the water fountain has been out of order for more than three weeks. Even one of the hand dryers in the bathroom, which blows hot air to dry your hands, has been broken for quite some time.

Many machines on the gym floor also have issues. A random example is the bicep curl machine: when you try to use it, it makes loud cracking noises, gets stuck during the motion, and forces you to exert extra effort to push past the sticking point before it briefly moves smoothly again—only to get stuck once more. This repeats throughout the entire curl. It’s clear that multiple machines need maintenance or repair.

The hydromassage area is another problem. One of the two hydromassage beds constantly leaks water and often displays an error message, making it unusable most days. This leaves only one working bed, which means that during busy hours you can almost guarantee a wait—often around 10 minutes—while the person before you finishes their session.

The soap dispensers in the bathrooms are hit-or-miss—sometimes they’re filled, sometimes completely empty. The paper towels at the cleaning stations are also often out. Cleanliness is another concern; the floors, especially in the stretching area, accumulate large clumps of dust, particularly in the corners. I’ve seen employees vacuum occasionally, but it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference.

If you plan to visit on weekdays between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., be prepared for crowds. It becomes extremely busy, and it’s difficult to find an open bench or any machine that teenagers typically use.

Overall, this gym has potential, but maintenance, cleanliness, and consistency need serious improvement.

Water fountain has been broken for 3 weeks now and they used to give out water, now it is limited to one bottle per person so make sure to bring your own water and plenty of it. Also to reduce your membership from 25 to 7 it cost 55$. Kind of ridiculous.

This guys renovated this entire building and changed bunch of floor and all but they forgot the core value ( its gym) every day 2/3 machines is either broken or too old and makes loud sound. now water machine is broken bro in gym people need to drink water to stay hydrated... A Hidden Gem Right in My Backyard!

I've been a member of Planet Fitness for a while, having started my fitness journey at the Rockville location, but I was absolutely thrilled to discover their club location essentially in my backyard! This location is a true hidden gem that offers everything I need and more.

The layout of the gym is amazing—spacious, intuitive, and designed perfectly for getting a great workout without feeling cramped. Everything is brand new and functions perfectly.

What truly elevated my experience was the staff. The manager was amazing; although I didn't catch her name, she provided me with excellent insight into the club's amenities and gave a wonderfully guided tour. She was knowledgeable and genuinely welcoming.

The facility is really clean and well-maintained, which makes such a difference in the overall atmosphere. Knowing they are open 24/7, 365 days a year, means I can fit my workouts in anytime.

It was a pleasure to be in such a positive and supportive environment. I definitely look forward to regular visits to my new primary gym!

I’ve been a loyal member here for a long time, largely because of the welcoming atmosphere and the consistently excellent service provided by the staff. However, tonight was a major disappointment due to the unprofessional and unfriendly service I received from Mitchell.
Her attitude was dismissive and lacked the courtesy and respect I’ve come to expect from this establishment. It was disheartening to feel unwelcome in a place I’ve always enjoyed and supported. I’m going to leave the full original review below for reference. I am updating this review to three stars from one. The manager called me directly today to discuss my concerns. I actually ended up talking to him in person. He did take steps to address the Apple Watch connectivity, and was apologetic about regarding my interaction with staff.

I just started coming to this location. The Apple Watch connectivity seems to work with about 20% or less of the treadmills. I feel like an idiot walking around to each one tapping my watch on it to see if it works. When I finally find one that works, I plug my headphones into it, and it can’t get sound from any of the TVs. I am not sure how anyone is leaving positive reviews here when all these features are broken. Also, some apathetic guy working the check in mumbling at an extremely low volume with an attitude. Had to ask him three times to speak up so I could understand what he was saying. My hearing is fine, by the way. As soon as I walked away, he leaned against the counter and started doing whatever on his phone again. Guess he was pissed I interrupted his TikTok viewing experience.

I find the company’s response to this review to be dismissive, and pathetic. When 80% of your machines do not have connectivity as they should, the management is obviously aware. When employees are standing around on their phones dismissing customers, management should be aware. If management is oblivious to these matters, that is a problem in itself. Perhaps new leadership is in order?

My wife says this is a case of “you get what you pay for”. Is this review too harsh for the price point of planet fitness? Do you really want customers to be in the mindset of “you get what you pay for”? I dunno. You decide!

Recently moved to Maryland and this is by far the worst location. Overcrowded and usually dirty. Never enough dumb bells or benches, and as others mention, groups of teens hog machines. Planet Fitness – Germantown, MD | A Clean Facility with Flawed Corporate Policy

With over two decades of experience evaluating fitness centers across the country, I recently visited the Planet Fitness location in Germantown, Maryland, as part of my relocation process and search for a new gym. My goal was to assess whether this franchise location would suit my long-term fitness needs. While the facility itself met basic expectations in terms of cleanliness and equipment, several policies and inconsistencies left much to be desired.

To begin, I attempted to take advantage of Planet Fitness’s advertised free day pass, which is widely promoted through their mobile app. After downloading the app, completing the registration process, and preparing to redeem my pass, I discovered that the Germantown location was not listed as an eligible club. Hoping it was a technical error, I decided to visit the gym in person.

At the front desk, I was politely informed by a staff member that this location does not honor the free day pass promotion, and that the only option available for a one-time visit was to purchase a $20 day pass. Considering that a basic monthly membership is priced at $15/month, the $20 single-entry fee felt grossly overpriced and counterintuitive—especially for someone genuinely interested in exploring membership options. To be clear, this criticism is not directed at the front desk attendant, who handled the situation with professionalism, but rather at the corporate policy or franchise management responsible for such customer-unfriendly pricing.

Despite this, I requested a tour of the facility. After filling out some paperwork, I was shown around by a young and courteous team member. He walked me through the general floor layout, explained Planet Fitness’s “Judgement Free Zone” philosophy, and pointed out that some areas—like massage chairs, tanning beds, and recovery equipment—are only accessible to Black Card members ($25/month). Interestingly, even Black Card holders must request staff assistance to access these amenities, as each device requires staff input or a passcode, which limits spontaneity and ease of use.

What struck me as particularly odd was that the free weights section was intentionally omitted from the tour. When I inquired, I was told that, per policy, they avoid showing free weights and benches during tours, allegedly to avoid “intimidating” potential members. As someone who values weight training, this omission was disappointing. That said, when I insisted, the employee kindly showed me the area, which appeared to be in good condition and adequately maintained.

On the positive side, the facility was clean throughout. The locker rooms, showers, and general workout areas were tidy and well-kept, which speaks to the staff’s daily upkeep. For its price point, Planet Fitness Germantown delivers a basic, functional fitness environment—but with notable limitations that stem more from corporate structure than local execution.

In summary:
• Clean facility with courteous staff
• Lack of transparency around day pass availability
• Inflexible access to premium features, even with upgraded membership
• Odd and limiting tour policies that downplay the full scope of the gym
• Overpriced day pass undermines trial potential for new members

While I truly appreciate the intention behind the program—encouraging youth to stay active and develop healthy habits—I’ve noticed that it has created some challenges for paying members. Specifically, there has been a noticeable increase in congestion on machines, and at times it seems that many of the teens are using the gym more as a social space rather than for fitness.

This has made it difficult for members who pay monthly dues to access equipment, especially during peak afternoon and evening hours. I’d like to respectfully suggest that you consider setting designated hours for teen access, such as 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., when many adult members are at work. Reserving late afternoon and evening hours for paying members would help ensure that the gym remains accessible to those who financially support the facility year-round.

I've been training here for 3 years and up until today I liked to recommend it because it's clean and friendly. However, today an employee came up to me and told me I had to wear headphones. My question is, the gym doesn't have any sign that says it's mandatory. Besides, she was walking around, and so were the people around me. I don't really know what her discomfort was, but they should train their staff to be empathetic because you never know if someone might have a special condition!

I hate to give this place 5 stars because it'll only make it busier than it already is, hehe.

This place is clean, has functional equipment, and very friendly and attentive staff.

It's fairly rare for equipment to be broken here and when it is, it seems to get fixed pretty quickly.

The other guests here are pretty mindful as well and typically wipe down and re-rack equipment after use. I rarely see guests not doing that here.

The only downside is this location is cursed by their own success and limited space because they're generally pretty busy with all the equipment in use. There's simply no more room for them to expand and get more equipment.

Really clean, all machines work, and if there's a machine thats broken it gets fixed really fast but they rarely break. They also have all the equipment a gym needs, dumbells up to 75 lbs, only thing they're missing is a free weight bar but that's standard in all planet fitness gyms. Today Tuesday July 9th at 8pm I came to renovated my BLACK CARD inscription that I had a year and for work I canceled it 2 months ago, today I was attended by Joshua an attention of the worst, I told him that I needed to enroll again and he had no tact to ask me things and I told him that he has to learn customer service and he told me to go away, getout of here, I told him he had a bad attitude and that I wanted to talk to the person in charge or the manager and he told me there is the card and immediately I wanted to talk to Tariq Manna (Club Manager) and when I called the call came directly to the desk of this Mr. Josua and he said I will not give you the personal number...

Continued: During the summer months Planet Fitness forces their paying customers to subsidize the admittance of non-members. The non-member guests flood the gym with no restrictions. Had an appointment with a trainer by 6:30pm on a Monday. While making the appointment, I told the service desk staff my challenges with getting to the gym on time given I would be traveling from Hagerstown. Unfortunately, between traffic and difficulty finding parking at the gym, I arrived at 6:37pm and the trainer refused to see me. The service desk staff told me the trainer canceled because I was late. Mind you, the trainer was still in the office but preferred to communicate with me through the service desk staff. I asked the service desk staff to ask the trainer for consideration given the distance I travelled and the difficulty in finding parking but she came back out and said the trainer refused to meet with me and I had to reschedule. The trainer did not have the courtesy to step out of the office and at the very least acknowledge my situation and try to find an amicable solution. I am very disappointed by the lack of consideration and terrible customer service from the trainer. Would not recommend this gym to anyone.

I love Planet Fitness! I've worked out at a bunch of other gyms including Lifetime Fitness, LA Fitness, and 24 Hour Fitness and Planet is my favorite! I especially love all the things I get with the Black Card membership and it's still less than the cost of every other gym I've been to.

- Aesthetically nice inside

I use the 30 minute circuit and get really frustrated that every time other members are on the machines and interrupt the circuit. I’ve said something to the front desk several times and they’ve done nothing except say if someone refuses to get off to come get them. Which of course defeats the purpose of the 30 minute circuit and keeping your heart rate up. Some members have been very rude when asked to let me use the machine for the circuit.

I really like this location! They have all of the basic PF equipment, and they are continuously adding new stuff. Recently, they replaced all of the cardio equipment, added another smith machine and two new spinning bikes. The hydro massage chair and regular massage chairs are worth the membership themselves. The clientele are pretty respectful, clean the equipment after use, and put stuff back. The staff are super friendly, have great customer service, and are always cleaning. I have never felt unsafe even at 0430 or late at night. There is parking, but it can be kinda tough to find spaces during peak hours in the evening. They have everything most people need to get the job done. Only thing is that it can get "tight" during peak hours and you might have to wait on a smith machine. Unless you need free weight and other specialized equipment, I would definitely recommend this location. Great value for the price, and it's open 24 hours. The staff are cool and the management is responsive to issues.

I have been going to this location 6-8 times a week for the past 5-6 months or so since I moved to Germantown. I have had some really great workouts and never any issues with machines or waiting for them. Have talked with some great people and love seeing them around. Highly recommend this place

The staff are highly professional and very friendly. The gym environment is welcoming with all types of fitness equipment you can think off today.The first person I met named Ashley made a wonderful presentation and made it difficult for me to say NO. It has been a wonderful experience since. If you want to be active and reside in Germantown ,Maryland you are in-luck for a stellar service.

I would give them no stars. This gym makes it INCREDIBLY difficult to cancel your membership. They say you have to stop in to cancel your membership. What if you are unable to do so? How about have an online cancellation feature? On the website it says to call and cancel over the phone. I will never be back.

I workout with a small group four times a week, during our lunch hour.The facility is in a constant state of cleanliness mostly due to covid 19; however, I believe with the current staff and the leadership of the management team it would always be in good maintenance. The Gym itself is very large So, I never feel crowded or have to wait for a piece of equipment. The staff is very friendly and are always there to help. The Equipment is state of the art. However; my preference is old school and wouldn't mind more free weight options.I give the Germantown Facility a nine out of ten.

I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of equipment available for me and my son. The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful in walking me through my first visit. Friendly atmosphere. This place far surpassed my expectations and I look forward to every visit.

I went to the gym with my mom last week. She has trouble understanding how to use some of the machines. The nice lady at the front desk took time to come out and help her. It meant alot to my mom. Also their Christmas decorations were beautiful.

Worst experience! I only became a member when I was staying in Maryland caring for a relative with cancer. He died in August and I’m still being charged in October. I’ve called repeatedly but am told they won’t accept cancellations over the phone. I tried canceling online without success. I just called and today was told I have to come there in person. I explained I live in Florida. She didn’t care. Maybe write a letter is all she could suggest.

I really really like it as a starter gym, and I say starter because if you are more than just a regular gym goer this place lacks a lot of equipment but as a basic one there’s no better for the price, it’s always clean, spacious, new equipment and everything in working order. Plus the front desk staff is top notch

I love that I can go in and come out without bumping into anyone and the facility is so large that the multiple machines make it easy to get your workout done efficiently and safely.

I wish they had better parking and cameras around the building for safety, especially at night.
