Been going here for a while, it’s a cool spot to workout in, however I would recommend that the employees be friendlier to their patrons! Every single time I come in, there’s no greeting, or there’s nobody at the front desk at all! The woman’s locker showers need to be cleaned better as well. Other than that, it’s been an overall pleasant experience.

August 17, 2025 Update: From 3 to 4 stars.

Came back after moving into the area and it's pretty good again. No real issues other than noticing many of the lockers are broken (and I swear I see the same items inside every time I browse for one).

Although the surrounding area seems off-putting, I have seen security in the gym but never seen an issue warranting security/police, even in the past.

January 10, 2019 Update: From 5 to 3 stars.

Since Q4 of 2018, several machines and lockers broken for months. Gym is starting to look rundown to match the area.

tldr; Do it.

I've lived in the area for 15 years and never visited Eastover because I deemed the area "dangerous." Never took a step in PF or walked around the neighborhood - nothing. I did the "virtual tour," looked up many videos on how to use gym equipment and signed up online.

For my health's sake, it was the best decision I ever made - and the gym is nice (WHEW!).

I was kind of in for a culture shock because when I got off the bus (mind you, I had to figure out which bus even went there), I wanted to run in another direction because the area looks worse than what I imagined. Nonetheless I was there for the gym and aside from being asked if I want cigarettes, it's fairly uneventful. I hope it stays that way.

There were no surprises (billing, etc.) and after being there for several months, the gym appears to be well-maintained. The only mistake I made was buying a lock because the gym doesn't use any - the lockers use resettable combinations. I've had an issue with one not opening and it was promptly taken care of.

Other than that locker incident and turning in something another member lost, I've not interacted with the staff much (other than saying "hi" and "bye.") There have probably been 500 different employees since I started and 2,000 new members (alright, maybe not literally) and on any given day, I see no more than a handful of regulars. 99% of the people you see on any given day you'll probably never see again, as with any other gym.

I've been through so many emotions since starting and was just completely off about myself and my perception of others. Don't look at the skinny, fit person and think they're strong or the really fat guy and assume they're weak. No matter what I researched and how conservative I thought my workout was, nothing prepared me until I got my hands on equipment and found out how physically and psychologically weak I truly was.

Proteinuria, almost fainting for the first time in my life - going partially deaf and blind, crying while sweating, it's been torturous at times. However, I'd rather die being in that gym than live the sedentary lifestyle I enjoyed for years.

The next (or first) time you go in there and see a fat guy with a cloth tucked in his shirt, know he's, just like you, will do whatever it takes to have a healthy life and change for YOURSELF to do the things you truly want to do in life. You weren't mean to live a substandard life so if you're serious, IDGAF if it's lifting a 1 pound weight, start now. Other members, including myself, WILL help you.

Members at this gym hog the dumbbells. They take them to other areas such as the Smith Machine, not using them, and they never bring them back. Also, some members bring Trainers with them using the dumbbells in other areas for over an hour, and don't bring them back. It is so hard to get a dumbbell workout in or to use them (mostly the 10's, 15's, 20's, and 25's). Groups of men hog the Smith Machines for hours! Staff do not walk around putting stuff up enough to make sure the equipment is available, and not hard to find. And to make matters worse, my last visit, it was a chilly Wednesday night when I left, and while sitting in my car drinking my protein shake, I observed a man walking while rolling a blunt, ok no problem I guess, but I was so shocked that he decided to step inside of the first doorway, and finish rolling his blunt as members were walking out. He had no problem with stepping out of the way and continuing with what he was doing. No one said anything to him. It made me very uncomfortable to see that, that could easily be done in a drug-free business!

But... The staff there is very friendly as you enter, and exit.

Planet Fitness has completely changed the way I look at going to the gym. From the moment you walk in, the staff is welcoming, friendly, and always ready to help with a smile. The facility is clean, well-maintained, and offers a wide range of equipment that’s perfect for all fitness levels.

This morning, I arrived at Planet Fitness in Indian Head, MD, expecting to start my workout at their scheduled opening time of 5 AM. Unfortunately, after waiting nearly 40-45 minutes, the gym remained closed, with no communication or updates from staff. This kind of unreliability is unacceptable, especially for those with early morning fitness routines. I just started my fitness regime to compete, and if consistency and reliability matter to you, I would suggest having a contingency until they address their operational issues.

Honestly take some of this cardio equipment and give us more machines and dumbbells. This location is smaller compared to others. But I’m also tired of 10 people waiting on me to finish on the smith machine. It’s so crazy. Also someone has to be stealing the dumbbells. The smaller weights are missing. Take the a circuit station (which is always empty) put a hack squat machine or something. Like I come here because it’s convenient but other locations are simply better. I wish they’d do the same here. And someone’s locs have been on the floor for a week. That’s gross

All good until it’s time to cancel the membership.

You’ll be told you HAVE to be there in person to cancel. Then, the ‘system’ will conveniently be down when you come in. But “you can drive 20min away to another location and they’ll cancel it because their system works”.

Feels a little predatory getting that much of a run around to cancel a $25 gym membership. I suppose they figure you’ll get tired of jumping through hoops and squeeze another month out of you.

If you have any form of anxiety I do not recommend this gym. You will leave feeling worse than when you came in. This was my first time ever having a planet fitness membership. Walked in, scanned my phone, no one greeted me. I really didn’t know where to start or what to do but I just decided to put my things in a locker and then peep the scene. Welp, This gotta be the most ratchet ghetto gym around. Men going smack at females working out, to the gym being packed even though the app said it was 2 bar “crowdtivity”. In the time I was there a Smith Machine never became free. On one there was a group of men hogging it taking turns using it. These same men were staring at women’s butts. I brought my own yoga mat with me. All I needed fr were some dumbbells. It’s literally no point. There’s nowhere to quietly and demurely do a workout in the cut if you’re gym shy. Finally, at the end I had to get a worker to open my locker, because I created a code but it didn’t work when I went back. Geez. I’m on a budget but sometimes you have to pay for more quality. If you have any type of gym anxiety this def not it. 0/10, I DO NOT RECOMMEND. I’ll stick with Anytime Fitness.

This gym needs some back up generators or something. As soon as it started raining, the power flickered twice and the workers made everyone in the gym stop working out. I only got to work out for 25 minutes, so that was super annoying, as it was my first workout since having my son.

I have been going for a while and I have never seen the men's locker room (bathroom in particular) as nasty as in the last few months. Today there were flies by the urinals. It looks and smells as if it has not been cleaned in months (no exaggeration )
The workout area is kept very clean, but I find it annoying that the personal trainer has a set of speakers going wherever he works out, the gym already has music playing. He could just use headphones

I usually don’t have issues out of this location. If it wasn’t for my experience today, I would have given them 4 stars. However, I arrived to this location at 8:50pm and was turned away because “they were about to close”. On the app and on the front door it says they close at 10pm. When I asked why they were closing at 9, the guy couldn’t even tell me or explain why. They need to update the hours on the app as well as on their door. This was extremely inconvenient and preventable.

Bathrooms are always disgustingly dirty, and they always have excuses as to why it can't be cleaned. They staff sits in groups and talk, and take turn sitting on the counter while actively ignoring you... the only good thing about this location is its convenient.

The facility is solid and staff are nice and helpful - but the hours for this establishment list 5 am as the opening time. Great! I get my workout in before work (I have a 1 hour window). The issue is that they are constantly opening late. I've held off on this review for months in hope of improvement. We have got to do better with taking business and fitness in our community seriously. A couple of times is understandable- but this is a full trend now. The Oxon Hill evening staff is very friendly and helpful especially on difficult workout days. They actually make eye contact with you upon arrival/departure and respond with the boost you need. Receiving simple encouraging words like "Have a good workout" or a simple thumbs-up gesture made me feel welcomed and encouraged like, "I got this." worst experience ever i canceled my account on the planet fitness app months ago because they have that option to cancel the moment i did that i realized i was still getting charged 40.32 every month from that account and i continued to get lied to by employees and corporate employees and supervisors saying they couldn’t cancel my account nor refund my money back so they basically stole my money from my savings account and basically telling me oh well they can’t do nothing about it never again

Went here because it’s convenient for me to workout on my lunch break, only to see that nothing has changed, this was my gym that I started out with when they first opened up, but because they didn’t keep the showers clean, and the locker rooms where you change clothes, I decided to start going to penn branch, which is way better, So last year when I started back going to this location, there was one employee who was such a big hater, I felt like she was starting to harass me, kept walking by to make sure my mask was on, I’m working out so of course it’s going to keep coming down, secondly, when I approached the manager about how the locker rooms wasn’t being cleaned, and if they were, it’s not being done the proper way, she immediately got upset saying they clean the lockers rooms everyday, and the restrooms, ok that’s a lie went here for a whole week straight only to find the same piece of hair laying in the showers, and where you change up your clothing, there was that same piece of candy paper that had been there since the beginning of the week, why get mad? Just clean the rooms… Covid is still going on, so busy wiping where the equipment are, they can’t attend to the locker rooms, we as the members suppose to do that anyway. They go over the same spots about a hundred times within an hour. This is so disappointing to me, the one thing I will say is I like the lockers they have you don’t have to worry about being a lock with you, you can set the code on your locker that’s already built in, and also I like the updated treadmills.
