Update September '25
OK, I've definitely improved my physical condition by exercising at Planet Fitness, but I am annoyed by the ambient noise level. It's not the exercise machines, the machines are well designed and quiet. It's the noise they play over loudspeakers that someone at corporate must think is background music.

It's not music, it's harsh, irritating noise. I had to turn off my hearing aids, and the background noise was still loud and shrill. I deleted 2 stars.

Update June '25:
What I wrote below is still true. I'm a frail old man. But since I've been coming to Planet Fitness, I'm able to stand up way more easily than when I joined this gym. My exercise tolerance has improved. The reason I joined Planet Fitness is that my physical therapist assured me that regular exercise could make a noticeable difference even for an old guy. She seems to be correct.

Great exercise gym. Lots of machines. Free weights. Trainers. Classes. Clean. Well organized. Lockers. Showers. Plenty of free parking out front. Wheelchair accessible. Reasonable membership price. No long term contracts. Snacks and fluids available.

This place is open 24/7. There are classes, and you can also do your own thing with the equipment.

If you set out to design a customer friendly gym, this would be it. I recommend this branch of Planet Fitness in Reisterstown, MD.

I’ve been a member since 2012.
Kids summer program has me unable to complete my daily workout. I’ve been made fun of by these kids, and tripped on weights left unattended, they take over an entire group of weight machines for so much time I have to skip that part of my my daily exercise routine.
I pay for black card membership, I pay annual fee for maintenance, and the sign says that I belong. This feeling is similar to the high school drama of my past.
I should be leaving the gym feeling great- that’s truly what exercise has provided for me.
I’ve boasted about PF, and my biggest benefit is the amount of weight and strength I’ve gained.
As a member of 13 years one would think I’d be a valued member.
However, the responses I’ve received make clear that I don’t belong.

Went late bc it is 24hrs location. However it was very hot and humid inside. Employee said they schedule it to turn off at 10pm and back on at 5am. But it's a 24 hr location how is that ok for members? Men's bathroom was a cave and had maybe 40% lights working. Water fountain/refill station was broken.

REALLY overcrowded, specially after 2, might as well turn around and go home, with Franklin HS being across the road, this place is PACKED with high school kids. Free weights area is small and lots of times have to wait for a bench to work out on. If you're looking for doing cardio, this place is good for that but if you're looking for a good workout, you won't get it unless you come up early in the morning or at night. Not gonna lie, definitely considering going to Brick Bodies down the road.

PF at 11989A Reisterstown Rd compared to other PF gyms I give them 2 stars. I travel to many locations in multiple states, other gyms seem to have no broken equipment or a quick repair time. The equipment in other gyms are up to date and have helpful features. Reisterstown has the strip down version. I find empty paper towel stations and over flowing trash receptacles (mostly in Hydro room). At fist glance the gym looks like your typical PF setup, it's not until you've been to other gyms that you see the difference. I wonder is it poor management, members don't complaint or a little of both. This is not meant to be a bad review. I want members to speak up!

Website says open 24hrs just to be told they’re closing at 9pm, okay understandable for technical issues I guess. Then, as a black card member, I requested to use the massage bed at 8:45pm just to be told that they were no longer offering those services due to closing in 15 minutes to not have people “too spread out” like they weren’t already almost at full capacity with rarely room to exercise comfortably because most of the equipment is temporarily out of order. Poor customer service and this is not okay. Massage beds are for 10 minutes so even with me asking 15 minutes before closing after rarely being able to work out would still allow me 5 extra minutes to exit the premises.

Just a few bullet points:

-We have been using the same weight machines since 2019. They are literally falling apart. It takes an extremely long time for machines to be repaired.

-The massage area was better before the so-called remodel. At least each bed had its own space with a plastic barrier. In light of the Covid pandemic and people's desire for personal space as well as peace and quiet, I cannot understand why they would cram all massage beds and chairs into one area.

-Some of the members have no gym etiquette. They hog machines, make loud phone calls, watch loud videos on their phones, etc.

-The staff are usually pleasant, but it often seems like the gym is understaffed. This probably contributes to the locker room being trashed half the time.

This location takes no accountability - the company either for theft of vehicles while people are working out. Keys were in a locker annd stolen and staff weren’t under any circumstances helpful. The police either in that matter. Planet Fitness doesn’t care about their members or members guest. Seems like an inside job. Think twice before working out here.

Update 11/19/24 - at 30min zone started at machine 1 and a gentleman started at machine 3 and he stayed there for my entire circuit and I left him at the same machine. I approached the front desk and asked what is their plan to manage the 30min zone and they informed me they are not sure about the policy and they would have to ask the manager. I am not willing to confront someone who hogs the machines in this zone and hoping PF can do something about it. This 30min zone is the main reason I go to PF and once again it defeats the purpose if not enforced.

I usually go to the Perry Hall Planet Fitness, but due to convenience, I decided to try the one closer to my job. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing and not at all what I expected.

When I walked in, there were 4-5 staff members standing behind the counter. However, their presence didn’t seem to translate into the gym’s upkeep. The locker room floor was visibly dirty, and I felt uncomfortable even putting my feet down in the changing area. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom, and toilet seat covers were scattered on the floor. Even worse, the water fountain was out of order, with buckets placed around to catch water leaking from the ceiling.

After using a machine, I went to grab a spray bottle to clean it, only to find it empty, with no staff around actively attending to these issues. It’s disappointing, especially since this location is so convenient. Unfortunately, I’ll be making the extra drive to Perry Hall, as it offers a much cleaner and better-managed environment.

I understand the free membership for teens during the summer, but I’ve observed way too much horse-playing by the teenagers. They gather around and don’t move when someone is trying to walk by. Today I observed what appeared to be a game of “Tag.” I’ll do LA Fitness or Onelife Fitness until the playground closes for the summer.

I prefer this location to all the others I've visited. I feel like the equipment here is just better than so many other PFs. Other locations bring in newer machines that have fancy electronic counters and/or odd weight adjustment settings that just generally suck. The owners should maintain this standard and resist getting swept up in the temptation to upgrade for the sake of upgrading.

Edit: Downgrading from 5 stars to 4 because they went and added those terrible new machines, but seemingly kept most of the old ones. Hopefully this trend doesn't continue.

Spacious, accommodating and clean. Plenty for beginners and those with experience. Humble, non judgemental atmosphere creates inclusion and acceptance of all people. The "black card" is something I highly recommended as it provides flexibility of location, guest passes daily and access to tanning as well as massage chairs. The basic package is just $10.00 per month which makes Planet Fitness economically viable on any budget. One or more trainers on duty at all times to aid and provide guidance.

I wanted to take the time to acknowledge James and Donovan who were very pleasant during my visit. I also had shared with them some fitness goals I was working on as I did weight lifting but needed to do cardio and told them I just didn't feel like it. They encouraged me to do just a few minutes if I could handle it and I ended up jogging on the treadmill for 11 minutes.
