I purchased a week long pass here while I was in the area for work. The employee that sold me the pass was very friendly and helpful. The gym has an awesome selection of free weights and machines! The place is kept clean and equipment is in good working order. And they're 24 hour!!

Worse gym ever , worse customer service , low quality gym, Not worth your time or money‼️….. Due to circumstances I had to relocate from the area abruptly ..called in to cancel my membership before it was renewed and went through a lot of miscommunications from saying that I’d be refunded within 5 days / The manager dealt with it to now I can’t get back my money due to policy

Extremely predatory billing practice. Who wants to get paid to do nothing? How can you even be proud of funds gained unethically?
UPDATE: despite your records, I had reached out via phone to the front desk upon discovery that over a year later I’m still being charged, asking to cancel and to be charged back to that last use, beginning Feb 2024. He told me no because it’s in the contract and I’m flyers hanging up in the gym. Obviously I’m not looking at flyers in a facility I’m not walking into since January of last year. Why continually charge someone who’s not coming into the facility then refuse to refund for time when no services were used? Surely it’s within legal rights preset in a contract, but legal doesn’t always mean ethical, like in this case.
By the way, this is my notice, in writing. Stop charging, as of 7/2/2025.
If the manager doesn’t want to discuss returning the funds then there’s nothing else to discuss, besides the information contained in this review.

I have been a gym member for years, but became lazy as Covid struck. I tentatively went back to the gym. It was under a new owner. I asked a gentleman if he could suggest how I get strong again without injuring myself. He gave me many suggestions. They were mainly slow, careful repetition, not stressful weights. This gym has always been a place that was supportive and friendly. But now I was getting fit and strong. I am grateful to that gentleman for the kind advise and the changed attitudes of the trainers!
The first session with a trainer is free! It is very addictive. I tell everyone to give it a try

My family uses this gym. It is a clean, friendly, comfortable place to work out. It is located conveniently near the base. My teenage son goes there for personal training. His trainer has tailored a program unique to his age, body type, and sports that he participates in. I couldn’t be happier.

I have been a member at this gym for over 12 years, and an avid lifter for almost 30 years. I live 45 minutes away with gyms nearby but I choose to make the commute for this gym. It is the largest gym in the area with the most equipment, and the only gym in the area open 24 hours. It has everything I need to stay competitive as a powerlifter or a bodybuilder. Wait times for equipment are minimal, and everyone is so friendly they often invite you to work-in if you are waiting. I am not one to complain about trivial nonsense, like equipment having wear and tear, I always get a great workout. Always a great atmosphere with great music. The only gym I have ever been to where they will honor your music requests. What I love most about PTF is its not your typical trendy commercial gym where many people go to just hangout and socialize. PTF is for everyone, all walks of life, regardless of your goals, you can be yourself, and you will be welcomed. Comradery is huge at the gym, we all support each other, no matter what your goals, whether you have been a member for years or it's your first day. Hard work is always appreciated and encouraged! Since I have been a member we have had several management changes and this management is by far the best. The owner takes pride in the gym, takes time to personally get to know the members, and he will always listen to your ideas or concerns. The Gym is located in an aging building, but don't let that fool you. PTF is a place where the grind has left its mark, giving the atmosphere a raw, authentic energy that can't be found anywhere else. This gym takes you back to the roots of fitness, with an old-school vibe that’s hard to replicate. It’s not about flashy equipment or modern trends, it’s about real, raw workouts in a space that’s been built on decades of hard work and grit.

Am Career/Retired Military. lifelong weightlifter, boxer, fighter, sportsman and Marine. Been in God only knows how many gyms in my 50 + years of life. This gym is great. Old school equipment for the more serious folks, plus the new cushier stuff for others who don't feel the need to deadlift their car. This a great place to train hard on the weights, powerlifting, bodybuilding, simple fitness, cardio, boxing, and more. And it is spacious inside. Not crammed. Chalk, gloves, and newbies all welcome here. Great young staff too who make getting in and setup real quick and simple. NEW Owner is a really great community driven man. This really is a place you want as a home gym
**P.S. I read some of the other reviews below. I want to write a common sense rebuttal. Older gym bought and saved by current owner. PREVIOUS ownership let stuff go down hill a little BECAUSE they were looking to sell. I've seen this before. New owner has repaired a lot of those minor things really fast, and there is NOTHING wrong with this gym nor 98% of its equipment (all good gyms have stuff being repaired).

Joe Ballenger has been running a gym for over 30 years. I have witnessed his journey from a small Leonardtown gym to a large Great Mills facility. Throughout the more than 20 years I have worked out with Joe, I have never sustained an injury, thanks to his encouragement and the professional, respectful environment he fosters. I highly recommend his professionalism and expertise in physical training to anyone.

This gym was great. The owner was very personable and is constantly making improvements. From what the gym used to be, he has already made a difference. It’s huge, they have hired new staff. I've called last month to cancel my month to month basis membership since I am not going back there anymore. I was charged last month for $40 on Feb. 2. I just swallowed it in since 30 days policy. On the 2nd of March I was charged again for $40. When I talked to the Manager, Brandon, he told me again it's 30 days policy. How many 30 days policy he is taking about. It's so ridiculous for $40 ripping off customers. Very unsat policy!

Yes, it is a large gym but that’s where the positives stop. The gym is filthy. I swear you can see the MRSA crawling up the walls in the men’s bathroom. The equipment is old. The floors in the dumbbell area have lots of soft spots - it’s dangerous when carrying heavy dumbbells. The area is trash - the most unsafe area of the county. There are homeless and panhandlers in the parking lot. They have significantly increased membership fees without any real improvements. This gym definitely benefits from the very limited options available in St Mary’s County - no better options around. It’s the Breezeline of gyms!

I have been coming to this gym since it started. there has been little change. things are moved around, equipment has been removed, nothing has been added. was in this gym yesterday and the water fountain was broke. Again. went to ask the front desk where I could refill my water. Was told the fountain. Attendant had no idea the fountain was broke. This place has been multiple names. That's the only change I have seen.

Been a member for a few years now... I recently switched to a different local gym where I'd rather spend my time and money for a membership as this place just continues to go down hill.
Some of the positives: 24 hrs, rarely busy, and has just about everything you'd want equipment-wise. Onto the negatives...
There was about a month and a half time-frame where the Men's restroom didn't have soap, paper towels or both. The soap is the most disgusting part, because obviously people are using the restroom then immediately going back to touching the equipment. Eventually there was a small bottle of soap put back in there. This is a legitimate health concern, and I can't believe more people haven't spoken up about it. People could be getting incredibly sick from something like this.
The one water fountain they do have has been broken for several weeks, but it still worked somewhat. It was usable, but recently has been designated "out of order."
The traditional weight scale they had in the Men's locker room is gone, replaced with a digital one, that has worked maybe twice in the last three months. Not a big deal, but if a place can't be bothered to change a few batteries in a scale that tells you a lot about them.
A friend pointed out issues/safety concerns on a few machines to staff such as torn cables, but the machines have yet to be fixed or roped off as "do not use."
Update: Figured out why it's not that busy... I've seen 4-5 people at my new gym that used to go to PTF, but no longer do.

Went to try this facility for a day pass apparently a day pass is $15. Who does that not to mention that there are so many safety and hazardous issues within this facility. This place needs to be inspected ASAP. Not to mention that the manager felt it necessary to follow me out to my car to verbally accost me for not wanting to pay $15 for their membership one day pass.

I was very reluctant to write this review. However, the pure disregard of one of the front desk employees over a hazardous safety situation pushed me to do so. I have been a loyal member of this gym since I moved here in august of 23. I frequent this gym 5x a week at the least and am always kind to the front desk people. For the past two months, the water dispenser in the back has had the front panel removed. The only way to get water is to reach inside the machine to trigger the dispenser button in order to get water. Upon reaching inside, my entire body jolted. I had struck a live wire. There were no signs, no warnings, and this is the only dispenser in the entire gym. I gave it a little time to make sure I was okay after the fact but my entire arm hurt for a few hours after. I went directly to the front desk to let the employees know. It was three employees behind the desk at the time. One gentleman came over after I flagged him down. I was very polite in saying I knew it was not their fault, but I had just gotten shocked and was in pain from the water dispenser in the back, and asked if they could please put a warning or something because I fear that could cause a future lawsuit (there are children who come to this gym for daycare and elderly people and I couldn’t imagine if it happened to one of them). The employee looked entirely disgruntled and cut me off halfway thought my sentence by replying “yup, thanks, have a good one”. Another employee nearby looked genuinely surprised, but the disgruntled employee turned and started explaining the matter to him in a way that I could tell I was not the first person this had happened to. Anyways, the employee did not apologize, did not say he would relay it to management, not even give me the courtesy of looking at me when he replied. Had he had the most minor amount of empathy, I would have probably brushed it off. But this is beyond ridiculous. Do better, and have some care and compassion for the well-being of your loyal members.

Not a good first experience getting a gym membership. Only a member for 4-5 months. Was trying to convince my workout partner to switch gyms with me before I moved.
-Cleanliness is terrible, dust on every machine.
-Temperature is way too warm for members working out, worried someone could easily pass out while working up a sweat.
-Multiple TVs available, yet only a few get turned on.
-I don’t feel like membership price was worth it considering everything mentioned above
-Not reliable on canceling membership. I was told via email that my last payment would be last month, yet I still got charged. Even when I give my “30 day notice” due to moving. Not understanding where the members money is getting spent.
I wanted to avoid making this review, but looking at other reviews.. I’m clearly not the only one that has these concerns.

This is already the most expensive gym in the area, yet they’re raising prices. I could understand if it was a lavish gym, but it’s far from it. All the equipment is old and looks like it’s NEVER been wiped down. Some are outright broken. Floors are worn out. Bathroom looks atrocious. And to top it all off, when these issues were brought to the attention of the owner due to the price increase, he stated “Then go to Planet Fitness.” With that attitude, this guy is gonna run his own gym out of business.

Hey!
To whom it may concern. I stopped by yesterday to get a tour of the facility as I was thinking about joining. However, when I went in there was a young guy at the front desk with headphones in and on his phone. I had asked if there was a sauna and he literally could not tell me where it was located and when I asked for a tour he said I can show myself around. Already put off by the lack of intrest I showed myself around and had to ask members during their workout where things were located such as locker rooms, sauna, studio and childcare. Once I navigate back to the front desk I asked if there were still any specials going on…he pulled out his phone and “texted” his boss about promotions and then proceeded to tell me “It’s going to take awhile for him to reply, but stop back by tomorrow”…I left immediately.
The employee didn’t even try to get my information or anything. Like he was just there because he was hired to be a body at the front desk.
Idk man. I’ve worked in membership sales for company’s like LA Fitness, O2 Fitness, Golds Gym..etc never saw this much disregard for a genuine deal.

I’ve been a member of this gym for a few years now. Yes, it’s large and has a lot of equipment, but around 50% of the equipment is in desperate need of maintenance and some needs to be replaced all together. Some of the equipment is in such bad shape I’m afraid to use it out of fear of getting injured. The floor in the weight room is uneven in several areas. The other big issue is cleanliness. The gym is filthy. I used to see someone from a cleaning service there early in the morning and then one day, he wasn’t there and never returned. I assume they discontinued his services, which is unfortunate because the cleanliness went completely downhill after he was gone. I sat my bag down the other day, not paying attention, and then I realized it was sitting in a literal pile of dust/dirt. My husband said the men’s bathroom is always in complete disarray, dirty, no soap, etc. so there’s people using the bathroom who can’t properly wash their hands. He also said the towel dispenser is on and off the wall all the time. They keep using plastic anchors to hang it which do not work for something like that. Ultimately, it seems like they don’t want to put the energy or resources into the gym to properly maintain it. The memberships aren’t cheap, so I’m not sure why they won’t put some money into the upkeep. It’s unfortunate because it has potential.

I’ve been a member here, on/off since 2010 or so. There have been several changes in ownership, but the new staff and leadership seem to have a refreshed focus on improvement.
Some of the equipment is aging, but works fine and hasn’t posed any issue for me. One of the main advantage here is that there’s a lot of different equipment, so you can move through your workout without feeling constrained. The place is very spacious. Overall, my experiences here have been positive. For the discerning reader assessing the negative reviews, I’d suggest that some are drawn to the art of complaint.

Buckle up buckaroos, this is gonna be a long one.
The good- this is the only gym in St. Mary's County that I know of that's truly open 24/7. The sauna gets very hot.
The bad - the membership here is pretty expensive for what you get at $40 a month. My old gym in the Seattle area was somehow cheaper. The building is huge with tons of equipment, but it's a weird ratio of actually useful machines to the cable-based machines. I don't think I've ever seen the place more than 50-60% full. The equipment is all pretty old and dirty. The bathrooms are truly awful.
The ugly - some of the machines are downright dangerous. The floor and some of the benches in the dumbbell area are not level, so you'll be mid lift and the bench will shift on you while you're dangling a hundred pounds over your face. The treadmills are also not properly maintained. I've found one so far that doesn't suffer from severe belt slip. I mostly see the other patrons walking, which might be fine, but if you're 200+ lbs and try to go over 5-6 mph you'll faceplant when the belt randomly skips. The billing is quite suspect as well. PTF attempted to bill my March membership on February 29th despite my contract stating I would be billed on the 1st of each month. The early billing caused them to trip a monthly spend limit I have set on my card. PTF succeeded in billing me on their second attempt in the first week of March, but also added a $20 "service fee" that is separate from the late fee in their contract. I'm not sure what services PTF staff are procuring that could possibly cost $20. I understand needing to charge a small late fee for payments over 5-7 days late, but the "service fee" for a simple declined transaction is ridiculous. It's half the cost of the monthly membership! The billing fees, along with the general condition of the equipment, reek of a lack of respect for their members.
To wrap this up, this gym is currently the only spot in town if you have a busy schedule and need to work out in the late evening. I definitely think that they benefit from the lack of equipment at the NAS Drill Hall. That said, PTF have some significant problems. I think they'd be a more attractive option if the gym was smaller, cheaper, and cleaner. The Navy has recently announced they're opening up all MWR gyms for 24 hr access, as soon as that happens I'll be cancelling my membership here unless they make some serious changes.

I moved to Lexington Park Maryland over a year ago. My daughter opened up a new business in the Lexington Park area. It is called Renika Marie's Therapeutic Massage. Someone from the gym came to get a massage and told us about this gym. And now we are members. The music is a bit loud and a little wrong for the gym. Some older people might not want to hear the hold time that they are working out, but overall, it is open 24 hours, and the gym offer some great classes. I would recommend that you go to the website to see the class. Oh, one more thing the customer service is not that great all the time at the front desk.
