I joined this gym with a lot of excitement, hoping it would feel more welcoming and less intimidating than others in the area. At first, it seemed promising.

The positives: The members are generally friendly and respectful. Most people keep to themselves, and the gym is rarely overcrowded, which is a huge plus. The facility is also very clean. Equipment is decent—better than what you’d find at Planet Fitness or LA Fitness Laurel, though not as complete as DMV Iron or Fitness Evolution.

Where things fall short: Unfortunately, the staff and trainers create an unwelcoming environment. The owner often appears upset or disengaged, which sets a poor example. The front desk is usually fine, but not consistently friendly.

The biggest issue is with some of the trainers. While there is one trainer who is very professional and considerate, two others consistently take over shared spaces with their group sessions. They often occupy all three turf lanes, and even if you manage to get on one, their clients will still drift into your lane. This forces you to constantly stop, move, or ask them to excuse you just to finish your workout. It feels inconsiderate and makes members uncomfortable, as if the space belongs only to their sessions.

I really wanted to like this gym, and there are good aspects to it. But the repeated issues with staff attitude and trainers dominating space make it hard to enjoy or recommend.

I purchased a week pass and here are my pros and cons.

Pros: New equipment, clean facility, decent locker rooms.

Cons: minimal equipment for each muscle group, poorly designed equipment layout, poor lighting, and the equipment feels cheap.

Overall, it is an underwhelming experience. The gym feels like it is 40% of the way there and opened early. The WiFi almost never works and the “stereo system” is a speaker in the corner. There will not be anything that keeps you coming back to this gym.

Great place if you like bodybuilding and powerlifting but great for an overall workout. Great equipment but without all the fluff. Nice staff and nice trainers. I have made it my primary gym. The locker rooms/bathrooms are amazing! It’s my second home.

Nice new gym, but skinny on strength equipment.
Looks like most of the money went to the cardio machines. Wondering if they are planning to equip the place with more machines for legs (a better shark pit), shoulder presses, and more back machines.
To include have a posing room.

This gym is dope. It’s in a wonderful location (right in the Corridor Marketplace Plaza next to stores like Target) and has great parking.

I also like that it’s spacious and not overcrowded. You can get a good workout in and leave at a reasonable time. Staff is friendly too. Met the owner (Kelly) randomly without even knowing she was the head honcho and she was a sweetheart! Good vibes there. Happy I joined.

I was initially very excited to join this gym. It’s a clean space with a solid range of equipment, and it’s rarely overcrowded — which is a huge plus, especially for the area. I also appreciated that it’s woman-owned and was eager to support a local business.

Unfortunately, my experience has been overshadowed by repeated uncomfortable encounters with the owner, Kelly. Her demeanor toward me and my workout partners has consistently come across as rude and unwelcoming. There have been multiple instances (at least four) where she’s given us dirty looks, pointed at us, or otherwise made us feel out of place. At one point, she even stood in front of us while we were using a machine, clearly trying to pressure us to move.

While the gym itself has potential, the atmosphere created by the owner’s attitude has made it difficult to feel comfortable or respected as a paying member. I truly had high hopes and wanted to support this space, but at the end of the day, the energy and tone set by leadership matter — and in this case, it’s not one I feel good about returning to

The gym itself is decent. It’s not the best I’ve been to, but the equipment is in good condition, and because it’s relatively new, everything is still in great shape. One of the positive aspects is that it’s not overly crowded, so you don’t typically have to plan your visit around peak hours.

However, the main issue—and the reason I’m leaving this review—is the attitude and behavior of the gym’s owner, Kelly. Unfortunately, she does not treat members with the professionalism or courtesy you’d expect from someone in her position. She often comes across as unapproachable and seems to carry an attitude that makes members feel uncomfortable.

Today was a clear example. While using the only leg press machine with a friend, Kelly approached us and asked if we were done. My friend responded politely, saying we were finishing our last set and noted that someone else was waiting. Rather than waiting respectfully, Kelly rolled her eyes and walked off. Moments later, she returned and stood directly in front of the machine, silently staring at us and the people waiting—clearly trying to pressure them to move so she could use it.

What’s frustrating is that, as the owner, Kelly has full control over what equipment the gym offers and can choose to work out at any time. Yet she consistently chooses to work out during the busiest times and behaves as if members are inconveniencing her.

The experience I’ve shared here is not just based on what happened today, but reflects what I’ve observed over the past four months. I’ve also had conversations with other members who have witnessed similar situations and shared their own concerns about how they were treated or made to feel uncomfortable.

This experience was the last straw for me. While the gym itself is acceptable, I don’t feel comfortable continuing to support a business where the owner treats paying members this way. I’ll be looking elsewhere for a gym where members are treated with basic respect.

Originally rated 5 stars and after a few months as circumstances change so do reviews.
This gym has some serious issues that make for a frustrating and uncomfortable workout experience. The biggest problem is the complete lack of gym etiquette and manners among many of the patrons. It's clear that rules are not being followed, and there's little to no enforcement from staff.
You'll constantly encounter people hogging equipment, not wiping down machines, and generally being inconsiderate of others ESPECIALLY a class or group that is there everyday starting at 8:30 AM that have no consideration AT ALL for anyone or anything else. But what really sets this gym apart in a negative way is the prevalence of patrons setting up tripods and cameras. This isn't just a minor annoyance; it actively creates an uncomfortable environment as you feel like you're constantly being filmed. Even worse, these camera setups frequently block machines and entire areas of the gym, making it impossible to use the equipment you came for.
Until the gym addresses these significant issues with rule enforcement and patron behavior, I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

I signed up for Powerhouse Gym Laurel and was immediately charged $198 — that’s $104 enrollment fee, $45 annual fee, and $49 for the first month. None of this was clearly explained upfront. You think you're signing up for a $49/month gym, but you're hit with triple charges on day one.

And what are you paying for? Honestly, nothing special. The facility has bare minimum equipment, no standout features, and not nearly enough machines during peak hours. You're essentially paying premium fees for a gym that lacks premium resources.

The enrollment fee is non-refundable, and even though they charge an annual fee, you’re still left wondering where that money actually goes. There's no added value — no towel service, no classes unless you pay the unjustifiable $60+ to access the classes, no perks — just a space with generic equipment and a confusing contract.

Add to that their strict cancellation policy (30-day notice after 30 days of membership), hidden fees, and penalties for switching your payment method, and it's clear this gym runs on fine print, not fitness.

I would not recommend this gym to anyone looking for transparency, flexibility, or actual value. Save your money. There are better options with better equipment, clearer terms, and far more respect for your wallet.

Great gym. Simple, clean, and has all the essentials for most gym folk. Plenty of plates, dumbbells go up to 150 and good lighting. Will definitely become a very popular gym in the area

Looking forward to see how they expand and use the rest of the space. Only at 4 stars because it’s not fully built out yet and doesn’t have all the amenities (yet). I’d love to see ceiling fans for circulation (on a hot day the gym can reach mid to upper 70s according to their thermostat) and better WiFi! Lot of dead spots for me at least on AT&T

Really love my new gym home. There was a mistake made that was QUICKLY fixed over and beyond what was expected.

The front desk does need a little work. As someone who has worked front desk for multiple gyms, I understand how this can be the hardest part to make amazing.

That being said, I'm heavier and have NEVER felt judged or unwanted here. Everyone is putting in the work, so I believe there isn't judgment. Kelly and JV, in particular, are very awesome. Kind, hard working, and cool. I'm excited to see my gains and losses in this awesome, supportive environment.

I was really excited to start my fitness journey at Powerhouse Gym in Laurel, MD, expecting a friendly and energetic atmosphere. As someone who is naturally cheerful, I was surprised by the hostile reception I received on my very first visit.

When I entered the gym, the front desk staff greeted me with an unprofessional, "What's up" that felt mean and angry. I was watching a funny video on my phone and laughing, and the staff member immediately questioned me with, "What's so funny?" This confrontation left me confused about why I was being treated that way.

Trying to ease the tension, I stopped laughing, but another man, apparently a friend of the staff, joined in with a bullying attitude. For the next 15 minutes, I felt unsafe and nervous, unsure why there was so much anger and aggression. The atmosphere was very uninviting, and I felt like I was being targeted.

When I finally left, I wished them a good day, but was met with eye rolls and silence. This whole experience was not only disappointing but made me question the inclusivity and professionalism of the gym.

Decent smaller sized gym. Not too busy as it is a newer gym in the area. It’s got the basics that you would need. Everything is clean and brand new at the time of this post.

Beautiful gym! Aesthetic of the gym is awesome. The equipment is clean, new and moves smoothly. The owner, trainers, and desk staff are extremely friendly. It’s definitely a great gym for content-creation, if you’re into that kind of thing. Very spacious, so you can always find your own little area to be if you need to do calisthenics, stretching, etc. I highly recommend checking it out!

This gym is pretty new to the location but it's extremely clean. Lots of functional equipment and spacious. Unfortunately for me if you're into crossfit or weightlifting (ie cleans, snatches) this may not be the place for you. There isn't really any "free space" for CrossFit style programs and though the bars rotate they don't carry female bars. As someone with smaller hands you'll struggle with the weightlifting portion. Otherwise great gym and helpful staff.

Great gym and a great area and very diverse. The staff members are very well mannered, nice respectful, willing to answer questions about anything that I had to ask. Also, I was told that 24 hours will be happening soon by spring and also more new gym equipment coming the owner mentioned. For a new location new opening to be doing it by herself I said she’s doing a great job.

I visited today (opening day) and had a wonderful experience! Several things stood out to me but here are the highlights: 1. The owner and staff were very welcoming! I was greeted immediately when I walked through the door 2. The equipment is new and if you’ve been around in gyms long enough, you know the equipment was selected strategically. I tried out most of them today - they are very nice 3. The locker room is huge (really, the who place is huge) which is a big deal for me in a space I have to share with other people. 4. There are plenty of racks and benches - both for Dumbells and barbell. 5. There were people in different stages of their fitness journey (Bonus) 6. The packages and pricing is straight forward. I like that the premium package includes guest passes!
