Risen Training was founded on the belief that God has blessed us with one body, and we need to care for it. Since 2016, I have helped hundreds of people achieve their goals, ranging from fat loss to breaking multiple powerlifting records. Thriving to hold the standard of excellence in online coaching, providing you with comprehensive coaching with a coach that truly cares about you.

The first time I met Josh, he came up to me in the gym and asked me “how many times a week are you working out?” I told him about 6 times. He replied with “it’s clear you’re willing to put the effort into this, but you just are not giving your body enough time to recover between workouts. I promise if you train with me 3-4 times a week, you’ll see much better results.”

And that’s exactly what happened. Over the last year, I’ve added 10#s of muscle mass, 50#s to my bench, and doubled my deadlift. At 49 years old, I am now stronger than I was in college. Josh’s attention to detail with my core bracing, lift setup and active lift form has been key to these gains.

As my form has improved, Josh has encouraged me to lift with more focus and intensity. I’ve heard “It’s not heavy, it just hurts” more times than I can remember as we’ve progressed through drop sets. Josh has a way to get those two extra reps out of you that you didn’t think you had.

While I have been a member of a gym for 19 years, my workouts were sporadic and
rather light, limited to a round of machines and aerobic activities.
Two years ago, I celebrated my 70th birthday and was distressed to find that my
strength and stamina had diminished. I refuse to concede that all of my best
experiences are behind me. Doing a little research, I learned that weight bearing
exercise is the best way to improve bone density and strength and to fight back against
aging.
As I had no experience in weight bearing exercises such as weightlifting, I sought the
services of a credentialed personal trainer. I am pleased to have been a client of
Joshua Olson since that time. Through his guidance, support, and encouragement, I
have improved significantly in strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance, as well as
having more energy on a day-to-day basis.
He is clearly an expert on physical fitness and weightlifting. His training lessons are
clear, and he demonstrates proper techniques so that one is unlikely to be injured by
exerting oneself improperly.
After working out with him three days a week for two years, perhaps I could “graduate”
and work out on my own. However, having a regularly scheduled training time keeps me
from skipping days because I may have had a rough day at work or that I am just not in
the mood to work out. Further, Joshua varies the sessions enough so that they are not
repetitive, and he adds new challenges frequently. I hope that he would agree that I
attempt to push myself, but I also appreciate that he pushes me to continue to improve
as well.
I have no aspirations to become a body builder, but I hope to lead an active lifestyle far
into the future and, with the help of Joshua Olson, to be as physically fit as possible.

I've wanted to be fit since I was in seventh grade, some 17 years ago. In that interval I've been all over the place. I was fat, got lean, slowly improved my lifts, got injured, got fat again, took breaks, and started to develop a despondent feeling that I couldn't really change my body. I wanted to look good and I wanted to be strong. I didn't realize it at the time but my whole approach was fundamentally unserious.
I started working with Josh in January of 2021 and immediately it made a difference. All sorts of aches and pains that I always associated with lifting heavy went away, and then my max lifts began to climb. He helped me sort out my concept of proper nutrition. After a couple months friends and family made unprompted comments on my increase in muscle mass, which felt incredible. I've continued training with Josh and seen improvement across all aspects of my physical fitness. Best of all, I've achieved this without any training injuries. I feel very "checked in" to my body now. Josh has taught me fundamentals that extend beyond the gym to other physical challenges in my life - rowing, axe throwing, even playing drums.
Josh works you hard but it is always with a purpose and a big picture in mind. His combination of Louisiana charm and encyclopedic knowledge of powerlifting and bodybuilding make for a challenging but rewarding training experience.

Before training with Josh, I was working out consistently on the Megaformer, but needed a change in my routine, as I was plateauing and not seeing much change. Ive been training with Josh for the last 3 years, Josh understands anatomy and he does not just throw a canned program together, they are custom made specifically for the client. For instance when I first started with Josh I was coming off a broken collarbone and rotator cuff surgery. He easily picked up where the PT left off. He changes thing up as needed.
