I’m a former student and now a teacher at Shift Yoga. I completed my yoga teacher training here and it was a truly wonderful experience. Jessie and the entire teaching team are knowledgeable, kind, and intentional in how they teach.

The curriculum balances detailed sequencing and real‑world teaching practice, with thoughtful ancient yoga philosophy and personal growth. I felt supported every step, received actionable feedback, and left feeling confident to teach. The community is very welcoming and professional, and the mentorship continues beyond graduation.

If you’re considering getting your Yoga Teaching Training Certificate, I highly recommend Shift Yoga. It was one of the best investments I’ve made in my practice and my career. ❤️

I’ve been attending this yoga class for a few weeks now, and it’s been an incredibly grounding and refreshing experience. The instructor creates a calming and supportive environment, making it easy for both beginners and experienced practitioners to feel welcome. Each session strikes a great balance between gentle stretching, breathwork, and strength-building poses.
Also, strength training class has been a game-changer for my fitness routine. The workouts are well-structured, challenging, and varied, targeting all major muscle groups over the week. The instructor pays great attention to form and encourages proper technique, which really helps prevent injuries.

I attended the Soak Bath session with Brie and it was spectacular. Brie is an expert in this speciality and provided a wide range of sounds that took us through a journey. Amazingly comfortable settling and everything provided on arrival. Ambiance was A++ too. My first time experiencing and you really come out feeling rejuvenated and cleansed. This is an ancient ceremony people have done for thousands of years, and really raises your vibration. Recommend to all!

I read through the website and decided to make this studio my stop on a long drive. I was only here for 1,5 hours but everybody- teacher and all the students- made me feel incredibly welcome. I was able to relax and reset in the yin and meditation class with Cierra. Thank you so much for the warm welcome, if I am ever in the area I will definitely come back :)

Reword Studio is bright and tidy, equipped with yoga mats, blankets, and pillows. They offer samples of aromatherapy oils, which I really enjoy. I appreciate that the entrance door is locked during sessions for added tranquility. The large studio space is perfect, and our instructor Bri is fantastic; her positive energy creates a calming atmosphere. We participated in a candlelight sound bath featuring soothing sounds from crystal singing bowls, drums, and gongs, leaving me feeling refreshed yet relaxed. Bri encourages everyone to get comfortable, and her passion for her work shines through. It was a wonderful experience, and I’m eager to explore more holistic offerings there in the future.

Jessie’s YTT effectively took my love for yoga and shattered it into pieces. Sadly, almost all of the course was a supreme letdown.
If I had to find a silver lining, it would be that I finally learned the hard way to always trust my instincts.

Needed to find a yoga studio and community close to where I live after a 6 year hiatus and I’m so glad I came across Shift Yoga! I have been to 4 classes in my 1st week and my body already feels soooo good and can already feel the “shift”…no pun intended😅 Love all the teachers so far, the welcoming environment, and the variety of classes and approaches to each practice.

I’m so grateful for all the moments that led me to the SHIFT website that day when I applied to the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in 2022. At first, I was drawn to the opportunity to expand on deepening my physical Yoga practice as a new mom, but what I’ve actually taken away from this experience has been deep friendships and an even greater understanding of sacred wisdom teachings that highlight the potent intersection of mind, body, and soul. Not to mention, I've developed invaluable cognitive behavioral tools that I'm able to take "off the mat" to promote personal equanimity with themes that are rooted in anatomy, psychology, and Sanskrit.

Some of these examples include lectures that centered on over 5,000 years of anthropology, understanding the connection between the mind and nervous system, correlating how ancient Rig Veda texts still hold true today, the influence of intentional breath work on the Vagus nerve, meditating with Mala beads, the pros of conscious rest, and how my unique Dosha type informs my sense of overall wellness, just to name a few.

The 8-month long training season was packed full of course work, texts to read, and Sun Salutations but it was also ample time to focus on learning the breadth and depth of many Yoga topics with confidence.

Jessie has a welcoming yet comprehensive masterclass approach to her teaching style that is therapeutic in nature but also penetrates and motivates much needed personal reflection, pause, and awareness. Each month of SHIFT’s YTT crafted a sacred sense of community with like-minded peers all from diverse backgrounds that explored the Hatha Yoga path towards understanding true humanness and the subtleties of wellness.

This was one of the best investments in personal development that I’ve made in a very long time and I’m so humbled by the opportunity to have cross paths with the SHIFT community, Jessie, and all my classmates in a retreat-like atmosphere.

YTT at SHIFT has lit a spark in me that I will continue to honor, nurture and share with others for the rest of my life.

Jessie, owner and founder of SHIFT Yoga is a remarkable teacher. She has a deep knowledge of the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of the practice that she integrates into every class she teaches. Her studio is warm and welcoming and has all of the tools you need to have a fulfilling practice. Jessie takes the time to connect with each of her students-an impressive feat when one has so many! She has evolved her practice over the years to reflect the needs of the community while remaining grounded in the origins of the yogic practice.

Shift Yoga is such a special yoga studio!! Jessie makes everyone feel welcome, no matter their skill level or how long they've been practicing for. There is also a variety of classes to take so you can mix it up depending on how you're feeling that week. I truly couldn't recommend Shift more!!

I have belonged to multiple yoga studios over the last 13 years. Shift is by far THE BEST. The teachers take in special requests in the beginning of each class and adapt their plans for the class to the people's needs. Love this place.

I can’t say enough amazing things about this place. I live in the Annapolis area and drive the 40 min to and 40 min home from classes because I believe you just can’t get a better experience. The passion Jessie and the instructors have for what they do is clear, and they make it such a warm, welcoming and rewarding environment.

This place is fantastic. Great classes, great atmosphere, and you can't say enough good things about the owner, Jessie Kates. It is clear to me how hard Jessie has worked to perfect her craft. As a manual physical therapist who works with bodies, movement, and is constantly studying anatomy and biomechanics, let me tell you: Jessie knows her stuff. She appreciates the beauty and complexity of the human body, and like all great teachers, she has the ability to boil all that knowledge down to something you can feel and understand within yourself. It seems effortless how elegantly she brings your awareness to an appreciation for your own body. And of course, after the classes you feel great too. The other instructors I have met are equally as passionate about what they do. Do yourself a favor and check this place out, as I advise many of my patients to do!

Purchased a groupon deal and have been very pleased with the classes I have attended. The happy yogi is a great place for beginners (I took my first yoga class here) and even for more advanced yogi's! I can't wait to try one of their workshops!
