Absolutely love Silver Spring Training Club! I had never done CrossFit but decided to give it a try because I was always doing the same thing at the gym and not seeing any results. The classes are fun, effective, and able to scale to anyone's ability. The coaches are awesome and give great instructions on the exercises and make sure you are working hard. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking to improve their fitness.

I have have struggled my entire life to find a workout routine I enjoyed and that kept me engaged and wanting to come back. It wasn’t until discovering Silver Spring Training Club eight years ago that I found what I’d been looking for. The coaches are knowledgeable and encouraging. Members are friendly and supportive of one another. And for me, the format of the class is effective: warm up, strength, hi intensity circuit. All guided by a coach. I’m in my 40s and I’ve never been more active or stronger than I am today. I’m grateful for the coaches and members (past and present) who’ve contributed to the tremendous culture at this gym.

This summer I will celebrate my seventh year at Silver Spring Training Center (SSTC) and I am still loving it! Over the years I had joined gyms, worked out occasionally, and then quit. But SSTC changed all that and I am now in the best shape of my life—which is saying a lot as I am a “senior” citizen. SSTC is a welcoming community—friendly and helpful. The coaches craft challenging workouts—with the perfect combination of strength training and cardio for all levels of athletes—provide expert guidance, and are supportive and encouraging. Coming to SSTC is a highlight of my day. If you want a great workout and to be inspired to be your best, come join us!

I cannot recommend SSTC enough! I started here two years ago after only doing at home workouts for years and never really seeing much physical improvement. Personally I don't function well solo in a gym setting, so learning about the class WODs with thoughtful and intentional coaches was great. I've seen much improvement in my own form and strength level - a big shoutout goes to the coaching staff for pushing me! This gym breaks down any stereotypes you may have of CrossFit. There is a diverse and friendly community and everyone is very encouraging. Joining SSTC has been one of the best investments I have made when I moved to the DMV - I highly recommend it to everyone!

I started at SSTC in the spring of 2021 and haven’t looked back since! As someone who never exercised regularly prior to training here, Josh, Franklin, and the coaching staff were incredible at teaching proper form and motivating me throughout each workout. Love coming here and continuing to get stronger and healthier every week! I can’t recommend it highly enough - the community is awesome!

I've been training at SSTC for over a year now and it has made a huge improvement in my life. The community aspect of this gym is excellent. Super diverse, friendly, progressive and inclusive people. The coaches are thoughtful and spend the time to get to know you, often providing individual feedback and programs. I've always thought gyms were full of toxic masculinity, this place breaks all of those stereotypes. I would recommend this place to everyone, regardless of your level of fitness.

SSTC is an amazing place to train. I started nine years ago, looking for strength training and conditioning to enhance my other movement pursuits (then martial arts and now aerial silks). SSTC delivered that, but also so much more. The Coaches are incredibly knowledgeable and always emphasize quality technique. I love the variety in the workouts, regularly providing new and interesting challenges. The community is the best, always welcoming, encouraging and supportive. We work out hard, but never fail to have loads of fun doing it.

I started working out here in 2020 with zero experience in CrossFit. Josh and his coaches had me trained and lifting weights I never thought I could do! The workouts of the day are a great balance of cardio, weights, and calisthenics that keep you from getting bored. I love this gym for the results and culture.

I have been a member here for almost 6 years now. The coaching staff is excellent and even in a group class setting they do a great job of providing personalized feedback to members to help them achieve their fitness goals, improve form, etc. The Owner / Head Coach Josh has even gone as far as to provide me with supplemental work to complete on my own time outside of his gym to help me improve my performance which is above and beyond the service you can expect from most gyms. The coaches also do a great job of organizing social events throughout the year to get members together outside of the gym which I think is great for getting new members to feel comfortable in what can be an intimidating setting. A couple years ago I moved out of Silver Spring and am now closer to several other training gyms but I have been so happy with the services and the people here at Silver Spring Training Club that I spend the extra time traveling here to continue to be a member.

I absolutely love this gym! The daily workouts are programmed thoughtfully and I appreciate that the coaches give great instruction in every class making sure everyone is safe and performing the movements correctly. The workouts are challenging but can be modified for whatever level you’re at which is super helpful.
I’ve progressed a lot since being here in both functional fitness and Olympic weightlifting. The environment is relaxed with a tight knit community which is a huge plus as well! This is a great gym to join and I’d recommend it to anyone!

I started with SSTC almost 9 years ago, turning 40 and very out of shape. (Just writing that is insane! I'm been going to the same gym for 9 years!) Now 50 is approaching and I feel great! The coaches are really the key here, though the clientele makes coming fun and comfortable. I have a lot of trust in the coaches, who keep the workouts interesting while making sure we are all being safe with our form. They get to know each of us and approach us as individuals with unique strengths and weaknesses and make adjustments accordingly. It's still kicking my butt 9 years in, which is the whole point! I've only got this one body, and I want to spend the second half of my life fit and healthy. CTSS is a huge part of that. If you're at all intimidated, please know that it is a very diverse clientele (age, fitness level, ethnicity, LGBTQ, etc), there is an introductory program, and all workouts can be scaled to all levels. It really is for everyone.

SSTC is a great atmosphere to be in if you're looking to live a healthier life and get in shape. The coaches and members foster an environment of personal growth and accountability for physical (and mental) fitness. No matter where you are starting, this is THE place to be as people of all fitness levels are here...nobody is left out and everyone is challenged from all ages and backgrounds. Workouts are very well-rounded and include strength, conditioning, skill and technical work, etc. The coaches work with everyone to meet their needs, and are very patient for those that take time to learn technical skills. You will be pushed to your limits here, but only positive things can come from that. I can confidently say I'm in a better place today because of SSTC.

Silver Spring Training Club is an awesome community of supportive people. Although we work very hard, the club has a down-to-earth vibe. When you walk in, everyone is happy to see you. The workouts are a great escape from the world and at the end of each session you feel like you’ve accomplished something. I’ve made good friends at this gym and it has become a big part of my life and routine. If you’re new to functional fitness you’ll be welcomed and supported. With SSTC, you won't have to worry about programming or wondering what today's workout is. The coaches here program efficient and effective WOD's. Each workout is planned in detail down to the specific stretch. Even though I have been inconsistently attending for the past two years, I know that I can show up, get a workout in and be immersed in such a warming community of warriors.

After years of at home workouts during COVID I hit a plateau and was looking to take the next step in my fitness journey. I had no idea what to expect walking into SSTC. I never played sports and never considered myself to be athletic. During my consultation Josh spent a lot of time talking to me about my goals and helping me understand what it means to be healthy and fit. All the trainers were super helpful in making sure I understood the movements and techniques. The classes are challenging and fun and the people are really friendly. I can definitely say that I look and feel stronger and healthier since I started. I’m now a few months in and I just keep coming back for more and more workouts! Huge shoutout to Josh who really knows his stuff. He truly is the best and most knowledgeable personal trainer I have ever encountered. When I was navigating a back injury he worked with me to get me back on track and helped me modify my workouts. I highly recommend giving this gym a try if you want a motivating and friendly environment to get in shape.

Silver Spring Training Club is a fantastic gym. The workouts are created daily, so there is no effort involved in coming up with a routine for yourself. Despite the set workouts, the instructors are more than willing to give you alternative exercises if, for whatever reason, there are one or more movements you cannot or do not want to do. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable about proper form, and are practiced in correcting form before it causes issues to arise. Also, you will have to do cardio. That is a good thing, even if you hate it. If you don’t hate cardio, I envy you.
Perhaps the best thing about SSTC is the community. Because SSTC is class-based, when you start going 2-3 times per week you will inevitably start recognizing people and making friends. There are even semi-frequent happy hours!

I started out at Silver Spring Training Club completely new to functional fitness. The level of coaching and inspiration that I saw on a day-to-day basis pushed my love for the sport, and brought me back everyday. Silver Spring Training Club is phenomenal at introducing people to fitness and explaining things in a very manageable way, while still pushing an emphasis on proper technique and form. Coaches are extremely knowledgeable and have a strong sense of your personal fitness.
The gym boosts an outstanding community where I have made some of my best friends. Everyone is welcome, from new athletes to those with plenty of experience.
Since moving out of the area, I always make it a point to stop back to train whenever I am back in town. I know I'll always feel at home when back, and that I'll be met with a smile and a fun workout!

I had a great experience with SSTC! The coaches are very knowledgeable, caring, and provide great training. They also pay attention to promoting mobility and preventing injury. They put a lot of effort into building a community and helping their members build friendships. Josh, the owner, was very flexible with me when I had to be out of state a few months to care of a sick family member, and also when I had to move out of the area for work. If I was still in the area, I would still be a member.

I worked out at CF Silver Spring with Josh in 2012 and 2013 when I was first introduced to CrossFit. He was able to evaluate what type of training I had done previous to working with him, and adapt his coaching style to help me improve upon techniques, crush bad habits I had developed, and teach me new techniques. He developed a personal strength program specific to my goals prior to joining the military, and was able to prepare me for future physical challenges I would face, while at the same time providing me the tools to build strength and gain endurance.
The gym itself was a phenomenal atmosphere. Everyone is pushed to their maximum capacity. Additionally, the coaches ensured that before any high intensity workouts were executed, the fundamentals of each technique were taught, practiced and mastered prior to adding weight or increasing speed.
I credit Josh and his team for providing me with good habits with regards to Olympic lifts that I still employ today. I still follow the daily workouts on his gym’s website out of all the others out there simply because I trust him and his process. I know he pays careful attention to all workouts he selects, the same way he does for the plans and programs he creates for members.
This gym has been the most memorable experience for me in terms of a place to workout with a competitive and fun community and great instruction.

Ive been apart of "the crew" since 2011 when the gym opened. Having trained with the owner and lead coach prior, it was a natural progression to follow the leader in the aspects of fitness. Life changes things and in-turn we adapt and that is what SSTC has done for me. Post rehab and strength building after a major rear-end collision back in 2012 the team was able to lead me down a path where I could get back to a normal training regimen. Not just a get in there and workout place, but a real dialed in approach to human moment to ensure that injuries didnt come back to haunt me. Fast forward to 2019, the same ( its the DC drivers not me! ), another rear-end collision and once more the ability to oversee, correct improper movement and fully adjust into a so called normal training regimen. The unique approach to moment, corrections, and the assurance of proper form is one that sets SSTC aside from the masses. The coaching while rigorous, is hands down the best. I have been schooled and there I move more effective. Thank you for the many years of knowledge, wisdom, and sheer fun in the gym. Just a very welcoming place and always great music to train to now that ColdPlay is no longer on rotation :-)

Silver Spring Training Club changed my life. I had been down and out when I first joined. I struggled when going to traditional gyms; I never knew what to do when I got in the door, if I had a plan prepared, people were sitting all over the equipment, staying on task with ADHD is hard, confidence issues. Enter Silver Spring Training Club. I’ve been a member at SSTC since moving from out of state to the DMV area in 2015. It’s hard to appropriately capture how much appreciation I have for this gym and its people in a google review. SSTC is hands down one of the best places to train crossfit-style workouts and olympic weightlifting in the DMV area. The programming for wods and barbell are thoughtful and sustainable. The level of coaching, attention to proper movement patterns, and patience among Josh and his team are unmatched. Josh and the crew genuinely care about your development, irrespective of your level; I’ve seen him provide the same amount of attention to first time clients and national-level athletes alike who have come through this dojo of swoleness.
I came to SSTC to focus on weightlifting after a 1-year stint with crossfit and have gone from being unable to hit depth on an overhead squat, to putting up respectable numbers in local competition. I will rue the day I leave MD and this special place for other life events, but will leave content knowing that SSTC has given me the proper foundation to continue progressing on my weightlifting journey no matter the environment.

The Silver Spring Training Club offers a wonderful fitness program on many fronts. Five years ago, I started with this program pretty out of shape and having literally no idea how to properly work out. It took some courage to walk through the front door on day one, but I am so glad I did! There is a wonderful sense of community. Some members can lift very heavy weights or put up pretty staggering numbers on a rower, and others can’t lift much at all. It doesn’t matter though. The program that the gym offers is endlessly scalable making it accessible for all ages, sizes, and skill levels. And the trainers and members are very supportive no matter your level. For example, a typical hour will include a small but quite intense timed workout phase near the end (again scalable to different ability levels). Those that take longer to finish always get the loudest cheers! It is really uplifting and motivating, and actually quite addictive. The key though, and what makes this gym really special, is that the instructors (who are true fitness experts) work deeply with you at the level that you are at. I started out lifting very light weights, and over the years, the trainers helped me progress to heavier weights and more complex workout patterns – never pushing me beyond what I could safely do, but always prodding me to keep incrementally progressing. Five years later the trainers are still constantly helping me adjust and improve. This means that I have become much stronger – lifting weights that I never imagined I could - and without getting injured (really key at the age of 48!). And this progress has had a really large impact on my day to day life. I am much stronger, healthier, and more mobile at 48 compared to when I started at 43. The trainers also make the program a lot of fun. There is a lot of laughter at the gym and this makes it easy walk through the front door several times a week. And if you skip a week, you will likely receive a friendly email from one of the trainers just checking in. This helps with the discipline part! I honestly could say so much more about this program. It is without question the best financial investment I make every month.

I joined the gym after moving to Silver Spring, MD in 2018. I enjoyed the layout of each class. We start each class with mobility stretching, which helps to loosen and engage the muscles. Then, we go into a strength workout, and ending the class with a conditioning workout, which combines HIIT and strength exercises. Coaches will provide exercise modifications, if necessary. Josh and the rest of the coaches are great and knowledge. They are committed to the safety and health of the members. All of the members are super friendly. We start each class with a Question of the Day, which is a great way to build report with other members! I recommend Silver Spring Training Club if you are looking for dynamic workouts in a fun gym community.

The gym facilities were always clean, and I always felt welcomed and challenged based on my goals and I made great progress here after recovering from a previous injury. Definitely drop in for a class if you are new to the area, and the gym is very military-friendly as well.

I started lifting at CFSS in 2015. I had visited three other gyms in the area prior (all in Montgomery County) and wasn't finding the right fit. I wanted a strong focus on olympic weightlifting and coaches that were knowledgable and firm in expecting proper form and technique. This isn't to bash other functional fitness gyms in the area but the team at CFSS was focused on observing each lift in newer athletes and because of that, I have developed a strong sense of the movements in olympic weightlifting. This matters because I'm now 5 years into this sport and I am healthy, strong, and confident in my movements.
I genuinely believe sports play a large part in developing mental toughness and as someone who walked into this gym with little to no sports experience, I can say that I have grown as a person through the training here and have found coaches that are understanding, supportive, and show up to make sure I leave the building a better athlete.
TLDR: This gym and its people are phenomenal. Don't just go through the movements, do the movements well. You'll learn how to do that here.

I went to CrossFit Silver Spring very regularly for multiple years. The programming, classes, and coaches are top-notch at this gym. As someone who was brand new to CrossFit, I went through a month-long Elements program, where there were customized classes for a small group (about 10 people) of fellow beginners. My Elements coach, Marcus, was fantastic. He was extremely knowledgable and patient with everyone, especially me! This was my first time getting back into a regular fitness routine after falling off the wagon for a while and it really helped kickstart my fitness journey.
After "graduating" from Elements, I attended more CrossFit classes, until I discovered olympic weightlifting, i.e., barbell. I had 0 experience in this arena and the coaches (Marcos, Josh, and Lukas) welcomed with me open arms and were extremely patient with me while I was learning this extremely technical concept. I saw a lot of improvement in my strength while I went to these classes 3x/week over the course of a few years.
If you're looking for a gym that has excellent programming and is very particular about who they hire (i.e., trained people who actually know what they're doing), then this is the place for you to join. I've also met some lifelong friends while attending this gym, which is a bonus perk!

Awesome gym and community! Began my CrossFit journey here with very little experience/knowledge of what it was all about and I loved it! Silver Spring was a great community of people and it was always welcoming to people of all skill levels.
All of the coaches are easy to get along with and very knowledgeable. They always do their very best to explain all the movements and help improve your skills & fitness, all while having a good time!
I made lifelong friends here and built a great foundation for always continuing to strive for a healthier lifestyle...even with the indulgences you deserve in life.

Spent a couple years training at cfsilverspring while I was attending The University of Maryland. The majority of which with the El Jefe Barbell Club. Awesome community and coaches. Josh, Marcos and Lukas became some of my closest friends in Maryland and the training sessions were the highlight of my week. During my time training at the gym I became the strongest I had ever been in my life. But more importantly the great atmosphere and people there made the experience second to none. If you’re looking for a new gym in the area or just a place to drop in - check this gym out.

What separates CFSS from other gyms (Crossfit and otherwise) is not only the deliberate and well thought out programming but the sense of community. Whether you have been a member of CFSS for over 8 years or 8 days, the members and staff are welcoming, friendly, and always available to answer questions.
Whether you are a long term athlete, dealing with an injury, or are brand new to working out, the coaches at CFSS can help you reach your goals. Every single movement and workout can be modified and adapted to meet athletes where they are at. The coaches know when to push their clients harder, but are quick to correct faults in form or movement patterns. As a long time member, to say that CFSS changed my life would be an understatement. A diverse, welcoming, and fun place to blow off steam. Highly recommend!

I've trained at CFSS on and off since 2012. Beyond the excellent programming, thoughtful coaching, and powerful camaraderie, this gym offers members a holistic sense of what strength means. Josh has helped me recognize what that looks like in my own life, and I know he's done that for so many others too. Anytime I'm in the area I make it a point to come work out here.

In 2012 I took a course at CrossFit Silver Spring then coaches told me I should compete in Weightlifting. Unfortunately, because of travel and work I didn’t start really training until 2014. Josh Dempsey coached me as an amateur to my first national championship in within two years. I have him to thank for making it happen. I got to compete two years on a national competitive level. Weightlifting is such a technical sport. He did an amazing job as turn me into real weightlifter. Thanks Josh!

I joined CFSS a year after it opened. Josh trained me 1-on-1 for over 5 years and gave me the tools I needed to become a better athlete.
At the time I was training to make the USA U20's Rugby National team, and I can say with great confidence that I would not have been able to make that team without Josh and his team's guidance.
Josh also welcomed the University of Maryland Rugby team for summer workouts at his gym and provided his expertise to young athletes looking to better themselves both in sport and in life.
The gym is always clean and has great equipment to provide challenging workouts for all experience levels. The workout plans are always fresh and new and tailored to individual needs.
The gym has a family feel and everyone is treated with respect, especially from Josh and all the coaches. Many events are held at the gym to bring the community together and a great job done at making it a welcoming environment.
This is by far the best gym I have been a part of, and Josh and his coaches are the best in the area. If you are looking for a new gym, this is the one for you!

CrossFit Silver Spring (CFSS) has been in the community for over eight years. This place is not a lax gym, nor is it full of fire-breathing gladiators, so it's right where you probably need to be. The coaching staff strikes a perfect balance between pushing you when they know you can do more and telling you to hang it up when your form is suffering. Most importantly, it's a diverse community that finds cohesion from the shared struggle of exercise.

Josh, the owner and head coach, is the reason I got into Crossfit a number of years ago and I have been an avid member ever since. He trained me in the basics, and I joined CFSS. The programming and variety at this box are fantastic.
Whatever your focus or goals are he and the gym can help get you there. After a few years of membership I started working in smaller groups and one-on-ones to get better at the advanced Olympic lifts and build up to heavy weight in my squat and deadlift. He and the group helped me make real strides and meet my goals.
I have belonged to a few other boxes and while i valued those experiences CFSS was easily my favorite and the training I got there helped me be successful elsewhere.

Intense workouts with a strong community feel to the gym. I look forward to going there daily. Coaches are very knowledgeable not only in CrossFit techniques, but also power-lifting and Olympic lifts. They also provide a kettlebell only class and yoga on the weekends.

I feel like I should write paragraphs about my time here, but I really don't need to say much-- this place saved my life while I was living in MD.
New to CrossFit, I decided to give it a go... by the time I left to move back north I was in arguably the best shape of my life. Josh recruited me for the Olympic weightlifting sessions. After a couple months, my shoulder issue I've been dealing with for years disappeared and I was putting up more weight than ever. CrossFit strengthens everything including your mind. It repairs out-dated ways of thinking and lifting. I can't thank this gym enough-- I'll miss it. I'm taking a lot of knowledge back home from this place.
Josh, Colin, Rachel, Marcos, you guys kill it.
