I was here from out of town and came to the YMCA to lap swim. The front desk staff was so kind (shoutout Joe!!), the locker rooms were clean, and the pool was great! Definitely recommend πŸ˜ƒ

I was there years ago so don’t know how relevant my impression was but I toured the β€œy” and I really liked the variety of fitness equipment and pool!

Been my home gym/pool since I was old enough to walk. The facility is pretty old, but the employees are kind and helpful, and the place never gets too busy. It's a great gym.

Nice pool area but the rest of the facility is very dated and rundown. Swimming instruction can be hit or miss here. Plenty of parking compared to other locations in DC.

This review is for the summer camp, as I'm not a member of the actual facility. I highly recommend the Y Summer Camp program, particularly the aquatics sessions. My daughter has a blast every day, and her swimming has improved through the experience. Chiquita, the camp director, and all of her team are compassionate and organized, and the camp itself is very well-run.

Max (personal trainer) rules. He has such a nice way about him, feels like a friendly cousin. I’ve never been interested in personal training at all. In a relatively short amount of time he really made my muscles burn and I left feeling exhausted and fantastic.

The gym is pretty good. They have a lot of stuff. It’s expensive IMO, but I feel good about the Y as an organization so I prefer to go here than a cheaper private gym. That said, I’d prefer an option where I pay less a month and don’t have pool or class access since I never use the pools or classes anyway.

Great Y, older building. The staff, the programs and the availability of two pools and pickleball beat any gym in the area hands down. Not only that but the TV access on the cardio machines actually works! Compare that to any other club at this price. The locker rooms are old and tired, otherwise I'd give it five stars.

Tennis courts are a mess, none are maintained and have been pointlessly thrown to Pickelball players. I’m afraid the people there say there’s no will to advance updating the courts.

It’s a YMCA, but aside from being older and the place being very spread out like a maze, what makes this place unique is it has a year round heated outdoor lap pool, which is awesome. There is also a big indoor pool. Big downside though is there’s no sauna and no towels. But 5 stars just for the outdoor heated lap pool because it’s dope.

I cancelled my membership here due to pricing increasing with no prior notification almost $30 more. The class schedule changed with no prior notification and some were completely removed from their program. Unfortunately, this location is a disorganized facility. It is very sad because I truly enjoy the evening classes and the instructors.

Yeah. The building is funky for sure. But the staff…awesome! Always a smile. They made the dark days of Covid bearable. And the outdoor pool, open year round is a blessing! Thanks SS YMCA!

I joined this Y for a few reasons; I was tired of the traditional Gym atmosphere, this Y is close to my home, both pools are open year round, and it has community-based. I enjoy the intergenerational aspect of it very much.
The odd arrangement of the building can be a bit funky and it would he nice to have all the weight training equipment in one place but one gets used to it.
The staff are wonderful.

First off, the staff at the Silver Spring YMCA is wonderful. They have nothing to do with my rating. But once you get past the staff you are left with an old, underfunded gym that should make the YMCA organization embarrassed and the local gym-going public angry. I recently went to the Bethesda YMCA and it was like a luxury gym experience. It's infuriating that the people in Silver Spring, who still pay a relatively high membership price, aren't deemed worth the same upgrades.

Ian Thorpe one of the trainers gave me a tour of the facilities. He was very courteous professional and detailed as well as energetic, I'm also in the customer service business and you don't see it often enough. Kudos to the young man and kudos to YMCA for having a young man like him

I love the YMCA but this location has the worse facilities of any Y I've ever been to and I have been to many. The locker rooms are small, cramped and poorly maintained and poorly cleaned. They have a very small gym which doubles as a cycling room and group exercise room.... The building is vintage something. One positive is they have an inside pool and a heated outside pool. I wonder if the people that run this branch have ever seen some of the nicer Y's on the east coast.

I’ve been going to this facility gym for years. I use this place because it has a good price. Decent cardio machines and weight rooms. They have a fitness studio on the top floor. And a indoor and outdoor pool that I don’t use. Definitely recommend this facility to do workouts and swims.

I go to this YMCA for private swim lessons for my daughter just because I like our instructor. Otherwise, I would use this crumbling facility. The building is very old and it is very poorly maintained. Recently, on multiple weekends, there was no hot water in the locker rooms. The hair dryer in the family room has been out of service since at least June 2018, and I have reported it so many times, but nobody bothers to take care of it.

We do love the Y, but there are many improvements that would make the experience so much better. Better outdoor pool atmosphere, wider variety of classes, better communication with staff and structural improvements would enhance the environment.

Worst Y I have ever seen. Imaging working out in your living room with 15 other people. And they wanted to charge me $10 as an out of town Y member. Not a chance.

Facilities are cramped into the building. Multiple rooms to go to for the various exercise equipment. Basketball gym is a joke- very small, poor lighting, etc.

The facilities are not great, but hey, it was the closest Y for us as we're visiting from Minnesota for the week.

The first time we went there, everyone behind the desk were super nice and inviting us to the Y at Maryland. The second time we went, I was dropped of with 2 of my boys and I had no phone or money, just our Y cards. The lady behind the desk said, "Nope" since you're a member of a Y somewhere else, you can come by paying $10 / person. Are you sure?! We were here a couple days ago... Can you let us in this time? we're stranded... Nope, sorry. $30 (for the 3 of us). Yikes! Thank you very little!

Great place to go if your body isn't young and buff. OK, the building is funky and old, but well maintained. But what's in it is terrific. The staff and programs are wonderful. The outdoor heated pool that stays open year round (unless weather is below freezing) is fabulous. The trainers are excellent, very experienced with out-of-shape boomers and older! And it's a bargain.

I think my favorite thing is that they have an outdoor pool open all year around. It only closes when the outdoor temp is below freezing, and swimming outdoors in the middle of winter is pretty awesome.

The indoor pool can get a bit crowded during peak hours, but have always had a great time swimming w/ my kids.

This is not a fancy gym, but they have good exercise equipment, and a lot of very nice people. They classes are good, including the classes for kids - the pee-wee sports coach was absolutely excellent at working with young kids. And they offer free day-care while you work out.

It can be a bit rough around the edges, but if you are looking for a good family friendly workout space, its awesome. And they have a nice Sauna too.

We cancelled our membership. The pool was always too crowded, and it was challenging finding gym equipment we could use. By far the worst experience ever was that repeatedly while I was changing clothes, there were young boys much too old to be in the women's locker room right there, gawking at women in the women's locker room!! There is another family changing room, but for some reason families don't use it, and nobody cares to correct this situation. What you don't have at this location is caring staff ensuring a good experience for all.
