⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A True Yoga Haven on Kent Island

While spending the summer on Kent Island, Soul Society quickly became my yoga home. The studio is beautiful and welcoming, and every teacher and staff member I met radiates warmth. After practicing yoga for about 30 years, I can honestly say this is one of the finest studios I’ve experienced—top-quality instruction with a variety of class offerings, from Hot 26 to Heated Vinyasa to Yin and Gentle Yoga. I primarily took heated vinyasa classes expertly taught by Julia, Debra, Katie, and Erin, and I loved the outdoor classes with Esme.

Beyond the excellent yoga, the recovery therapies are outstanding. I started using the halosauna on day one; the peaceful, salt-infused heated environment is perfect for meditation and each session leaves me feeling restored. I eventually tried the cold plunge and can’t imagine life without it—the cold plunge delivers both mental clarity and the sensation of walking on clouds. These treatments complement the asana practice and create a truly holistic approach to wellness.

The studio provides thoughtful amenities: floor-to-ceiling mirrors that aid alignment, plentiful props (blocks, bolsters, blankets, and straps), and spacious dressing rooms with showers stocked with fresh, high-quality towels.

A friendly community vibe runs through Soul Society. Fellow practitioners are welcoming, and the studio hosts special events that deepen the sense of connection.

I’m only in the area seasonally, and Soul Society is what I’ll miss most about Kent Island. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or brand-new, this studio offers an exceptional experience.

Nice place, crazy view especially from Sokyoku hill. But there are also many defects such as the unhospitable Muken and the staff made up of incompetent Shinigami, who do not see my greatness, led by that little grandfather who thinks he is very powerful, so powerful that he died badly.. But I had foreseen it! Because it is all apart of my plan.

My ego kept me from yoga, thinking it wasn’t for me, but Soul Society changed everything. The instructors are skilled and welcoming, and the clean, serene studio feels like home. Classes, from intense to relaxed, have made me stronger and calmer. The new cold plunge and sauna are awesome for recovery. The group’s like family. This place improved my life—five stars!

I had a corporate group come in for a three day meeting at the chesapeake bay beach club. We organized directly through the venue to have Julia come in for a closing sound bath/meditation. Everything was seamless, Julia brought in all of the necessary supplies (mats, pillows, etc) and organized the set up and other details directly with the sales manager which was so easy for us.
It was absolutely lovely, the whole group was so pleased with the experience and left feeling refreshed. It can often be difficult to find a "group activity" that everyone enjoys and wants to participate in so we were thrilled that every single person in our group was happy with the experience!

I am grateful for Soul Society. I have been taking classes since it opened on a drop-in basis, I recently purchased a year membership and have increased my practice to six days a week. All the instructors are welcoming and supportive. The studio is always clean; Julia and team take a lot of time to provide a quality experience. Thank you for building and nourishing our yoga community.

Julia is sincere in her desire to bring better living through yoga to the community. And all the instructors thus far are experienced, gentle, and equally as sincere as Julia. The environment and space are both welcoming and healing. After 6 years away, I'm so glad to return to yoga, and to have chosen Soul Society as the gateway.

Soul Society Yoga on Yoga is by far one of the nicest yoga studios I’ve been to in Maryland! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a serene and spa-like atmosphere that instantly puts you at ease. The studio is impeccably clean, with thoughtful amenities like towels and showers that make your experience feel luxurious. Their app is super easy to use, making class scheduling a breeze. The lobby offers quality yoga merchandise for sale, which is a nice touch. But what really sets this place apart are the instructors—they are absolutely top-notch. If you’re into hot yoga, I highly recommend the Hot Bikram class with Julia—it’s my personal favorite! Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or just starting out, Soul Society Yoga is a gem worth checking out.

I have never taken a yoga class, and I think that was because I did not know what to expect or maybe I thought I would be embarrassed to take a class....but those days are over. I had the pleasure of taking a relaxing beginners class today led by Julia Collins, and it was amazing. I took the class with 8 others from our leadership team as a team building exercise and we all walked away truly thankful for such a soulful hour of yoga. Thank you, Julia!

More later, but trust, Soul Society is a heart you will resonate with. There is a place for anyone in their spirit, healing, yoga journey at any stage or age.
Whew, many months later, time for a detailed review. SSY and owner Julia offer a safe space in which I can relax, or reinvigorate, or both. A variety of classes are offered from gentle Yin yoga, to hot bikram, to vinyasa vibes or soul flow.

Tonight, was a special event, including a sound healer, Austin Shook, who just played over 7 instruments, including his beautiful voice, for us to create and modify sound waves as healing energy affecting our body and mind. Julia he held other special events, too, such as a Women’s Circle, Sound Bath and Restorative Yoga, and private one on one sessions.

The studio itself has a bright, welcoming and spacious entrance, with a storefront display window advertising the manduka, lulu lemon, and other brands she has for sale. A comfy couch and sturdy table in the lobby greet you first, then Erin, the front desk clerk, or one of the teachers will greet you second, checking you into your class.
There are cubbies adjacent to one wall for shoes, bags, and other items, the same wall to which there are entrances to the men’s full bathroom, and women’s two shower stall bathroom. Our bathroom has a double vanity sink, laden with supplies free to use and take, including hair ties, deodorant spray, lotion, etc. Two toilet rooms have thick doors separating the open area from the loos. Another set of cubbies in here for belongings helps with overflow for those packed classes. Towels are rolled in a basket at each shower, ready to use. Pumps on the walls contain showergel, shampoo, and conditioner. Julia really thought of Everything when she created SSY!

Now, the teachers. Alyssa is my favorite, but not by far, as I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all I’ve practiced with and from whom I’ve learned so much this year already. Jess has a rounded cadence to her voice and describes poses verbally so well, I don’t need to check what my yogi friend next to me is doing. She also gives the best hug of them all. Adrienne is very warm and approachable, so easy to ask for guidance or help. Bailey is genuine, sweet, and ingenuitive with ideas for modifications for those of us injured, arthritic, disabled, or limited in one way or another. Allie is an out-of-the-box thinker, smart n sweet, and thorough in her “juicy” flows. Katie is a good soul, fun and free spirited in her guidance. Toni, new to the studio but no novice yogi, is so thorough in her pose and shape explanations, empathetic, appreciative, loving teaching and showing it in her class presentation and flow. Julia is kind, thoughtful, so strong, efficient, talented and compassionate, a rare and lethal, yet delicate combo. Alyssa, my sista from another mista, embodies a yogi and a human to me; grace, calm, patience, strength, power, intelligence, and the chronic ability to always learn, always grow more. She takes on challenge after challenge like my pupperoni with a new fresh bone in his teeth.

Loads of parking out front and in the rear with security drivebys on the regular. Currently, we are in the November Challenge, trying to meet a set number of classes for the month to win prizes. If you have a competitive streak, or just wanna try yoga out, SSY is for you, the yogi and novice alike. The muscle bound men find some of the classes challenging enough, they skip weights at the gym. I definitely have noodle arms and legs after bikram or vinyasa (dance fun) vibes, so I skip free weights and swimming at the gym days I attend these type classes. Then, I zone out and sigh a relief in Yin!

So, that’s Soul Society Yoga in a big ole nutshell! Any questions? Post here, and I’ll be happy to help.

Julia Collins is an an amazing Yoga instructor. I signed up to take a few private lessons because of my lack of experience with Yoga. Julia made me feel both welcome and at ease (even when it took me several attempts to learn the positions). Julia has patience and compassion, her guidance is absolutely spot on. I am in my 50's and I strongly recommend taking a few private lessons before jumping into to the group classes. I recently gained the courage to take my first group class and found I could keep up. I honestly feel so much better now after I started my new Yoga journey.

I signed up for a virtual class 2.5 hours in advance. An hour and 10 mins prior to the class I get a text asking if I have any questions. I asked if the class was a zoom class or if I needed to download another platform/app. I never received a response. I continued to check my email and text messages, but a link to the class was never sent. I proceeded to text and call several times. No one ever picked up the phone or responded to my messages. They were quick to take payment though. Very unprofessional. It’s not like it’s spring 2020 and studios are just now starting and configuring virtual classes. They’ve been offering virtual classes for a year now. It amazes me that the studio has the technical capability to accept electronic payments, but can’t figure out how to send a link, or answer a text or call. I can’t really comment on the quality of classes or experience of yoga instructors (because I never got to take the class I paid for), but the lack of professionalism and attention to customer experience is very telling of what one can expect in a class.
