New member here, Bob Martindale was my POC while joining and he made sure that I had an understanding of the club & helped me with documentation that I needed to submit to my company for my fringe benefit reimbursement. My personal trainer is Dan Gobble and I am very pleased with his knowledgeable training plans. In my experience, everyone that works at the club makes customer service the highest priority & i truly love going there.

This is the best gym! Am surprised to see any negative reviews of the place. Has everything you could ask for and the staff is great. The classes down stairs is the best part. Body pump is my go to, but they’re all great! Highly worth it if you ask me.

Carmen at the Arena Club is AMAZING!!! She goes above and beyond for members and people she is working with to become members. She informative and very helpful. If I have a question or an issue I go straight to her! If you are thinking about a gym/community membership with Arena Club, she is the person you want to talk to!!! I’m so thankful she was working the night I went in to get information!!!
Also she makes everything so effortless especially with my son having a medical condition that has hindered our ability to use our membership. Carmen we will miss seeing you, but thank you for all you have done with us during our time at the Arena Club.

I’m updating my review to 1 stars now. While I initially had a positive experience—being under 24 and paying under $50/month for access to multiple pools and a solid sauna—I’ve since learned about serious issues with how this gym handles memberships.
My aunt, who went through a major life crisis, was unable to cancel her membership and ended up being backcharged hundreds of dollars. That’s not just bad policy—it’s exploitative. It’s starting to feel like this place cares more about locking people into contracts than supporting their health. Most gyms these days have a no contract policy and I feel like that actually makes it so that they can retain customers better because they know they’re not being sucked into some sort of contractual trap. Unfortunately, it seems that Mr. Rawlings has not understood that this is the best way of doing business yet. Hopefully he can come to his senses at some point, because if not, I really do not see this gym surviving the next decade. Equipment is relatively outdated for the crazy premium price you pay to go here.
Compare that to Anytime Fitness in Bel Air—Steve, the owner, runs a much more honest and affordable gym. It’s quieter, cheaper, and while it doesn’t have a sauna or pool, it also doesn’t feel like a trap. And to be honest now that I’m living out of state and going to a better gym, CLUB4, it is absolutely disgusting how abhorrent that sauna was at the arena club. You can see a review post by another user on here and, man, that sauna bench is caked with human excrement.
If the Arena club does not update its business model to cater to everyone, especially during price increases across the country and our world, & actually tries to be a little bit more supportive of human beings instead of their own pockets, then maybe they’ll do a little bit better. I think it’s about time they reinvest in some better equipment. It’s time to get that sauna completely replaced because it’s absolutely disgusting. And maybe adding some other amenities like a cold plunge or a steam room, because other gyms across the country are only charging $25 a month for not only those amenities but also 24 seven access which, in contrast, the arena club literally sometimes closes at a laughable 6 PM.

Very disappointed in this club. Most of the staff is friendly..but the process, contract, and rules must be so unnecessarily complex, and difficult, that they can't relay it properly to the members. We attended for two years and cancelled today after bizarrely rude interactions with staff regarding the addition of our two kids under two. Initially were told we were okay because we were on a "family" plan but at some point that changed. I get added fees for daycare services, etc but none of that was explained to us. This continuous communication gap is why we left. There are more cost effective options in the area that better suit our needs as a family. Wishing your business all the best.

If I could rate this place a 0, I would. We have had a membership with this place for 2 years, which we were informed that it was a family membership. We started taking our first son at 6 months, now 19months to the pool, no problem. We scanned and went on our way. We now have a 3 month old as well which we have been taking him to the pool since last month and same thing. Well today we were stopped by this nasty lady with blonde short hair saying we were not allowed through until we paid for the kids. Of course we were confused since we have not been stopped before and said we had to talk to another member to add the kids. I can understand paying for kids over a certain age like 3 but a 19 month old and a 3 month old , 17.50 each every 2 weeks!? Are you kidding??? Disney doesn't even charge for kids under 3. This place is a waste of money and a joke. I'm surprised it gets the business it does now. If you're a family considering about buying a membership, save yourself the trouble and don't. Go to Disney, your kids are free.

Completely disappointed with Arena club… have been paying every single month … doze it in the winter bc it was a waste… can’t really go now… got emails or texts about 3 times the club was closed because they had no water? But still had to pay… between my hours, my husbands hours, sports, we just don’t go as much as we did last year. Emailed Carmen sent a 30 day notice to cancel my membership and was told I had to get a doctors note ? To cancel? Seriously? That’s the only way you can cancel a gym membership. Pathetic. Teacher not getting paid for the summer and still have to pay for somewhere that limits pool hours due to summer camp pool hours… NOT HAPPY. Arena club is the worst and I’m recommending anyone who asks to stay away from them and asking how I can get out of my contract because this is not fair.

When I first took my tour here, I personally did not feel as if this was going to be my home gym. My fiancé and I had second thoughts feeling as if the place wasn’t very welcoming. This is where I give all thanks to one of the sales reps here named Carmen, she took all of that doubt anyway from us with how genuine and patient she was. It almost felt as if she was the owner of the gym with how knowledgeable and understanding she was about any question we asked. She gave us a few days to think on our decision with guest passes, AND check ups on how we were feeling. Then after a few days my fiancé and I decided to become members. We’ve been here for about 4 months now and we love it more and more everyday. None of this would have been possible without the support of Carmen, she truly is a once in a lifetime compassionate soul. If you are thinking of joining ask for Carmen, she won’t disappoint!

Well it’s been a year, so time for another rate increase! I wasn’t notified of it (a surprise, again!), but sure enough, it’s happening! I can see how 96$ a month (with “discount”) to use only the weights is not profitable for them. They need the full 100$ to do 0 maintenance or cleaning or improvements, or get new machines or equipment..
Guess this is another way they like to thank 12+ year members..
Over the past week I have asked about 20-25 people if they were notified of the rate increase, about 3 of them got the email, and yes I verified, the rate increase is for everyone.
Is this not criminal behavior? How is it legal to just change people's contracts and charge them more without notification?
Attached is a picture of the bench in the sauna, at the “high end” 100$ a month (and rising) gym..

I like it here. Carmen is so helpful, really. The staff is friendly and the place is always so clean. People are generally nice. The pools are like saltwater pools so it feels incredible on your skin afterwards. Even the hot tub. And they have slides for the kids, and a lot of other kids programs. Great place, great people.

I give the Arena club 5 stars primarily because of Carmen in membership. Carmen makes the Arena club look good. She has a warm and welcoming personality. She is all about family which is why she made my family and I feel like a part of her family while we were at the Arena club. We normally use the club during the summer months because of the beautiful swimming pools. It has island vibes, great music and the other guests are usually respectful of personal space. So do yourself and your health a favor and go see Carmen. She never pressures and will listen to your needs and work out a plan that hopefully works best for your budget.

My son and I have been members since 2017 and still love it. If you look around, they are always trying to update either the programs or equipment for our well being.
I usually take fitness classes and unless it is a Les Mills sponsored class, the instructors will ask you for suggestions on body areas to work on or what type of music they can incorporate for you.
Many times I've had questions about my workout routine and possible modifications I can do (bad knees) the instructors/trainers take time to demonstrate. They are an excellent resource.
My son and I enjoy using the pools during the summer. The water slides and basketball courts are his favorites. You have to wait until the summer camp kids are through in the morning but the counselors and lifeguards make sure the camp kids do not linger.
We love it and I do not see any reason to look elsewhere.

The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to help with any questions or advice, especially my member representative Carmen Duvall. She has always gone above & beyond with any request or issue I’ve had. The facilities are top-notch, with a wide range of equipment that’s always clean and well-maintained. I love the variety of group classes they offer, from high-energy workouts to more relaxing yoga classes, which keeps things interesting and fun. They just started the Les Mills Strength Development class which is AWESOME. The atmosphere is welcoming and supportive, making it easy to stay motivated and make friends. Here are the realities of an Arena Club family membership:
This is not a club that prioritizes the traditional member. They will wax poetic to you about the trampoline zone and how it is available for your kids to use and enjoy whilst you workout. What they will neglect to tell you is that you will be sidelined when there is a birthday party reserved. You will also be sidelined when one of the teams from the adjacent community college is practicing (this also restricts you from all the high end sorinex equipment they will pitch you on in that part of the gym). During the summer when you have the highest likelihood to use this area with your children, they will be running a summer camp with dozens of kids. If you don't enroll your children at an additional fee, you will not have access. The reality is, you will not have access to this part of the facility on a very regular basis.
The pool arrangement is identically disingenuous. There will be a swim team in the pool during all peak hours restricting lap swim to a single lane for hours at a time while 40+ people are drilling. If you want the pool for much more than recreation during the summer, you will want to bypass the Arena Club.
Lastly, I would direct you towards the other 1 star reviews listed here. You will see all you need about their deceptive business practices and lack of cleanliness in the shower and sauna areas (listen for the squish of sweat when you walk into the sauna under the rubberized mats). You will see each of these is answered as though the member is trying to get one over on the facility. They treat the complaints as though each is it's own subjective issue instead of an objective problem with the facility. Take the cleanliness for example they respond to multiple cleanliness gripes with the fact that the use a third party cleaning service (still your responsibility) and have "never" heard anything but positive comments about the cleanliness. I guess that could be true if you are never listening except for the fact that you are writing responses to multiple people, all viewable in the reviews, that you "never" hear anything other than positives about the cleanliness. You will see this same pattern emerge as you read the reviews, multiple people who state they were misled about their contract are treated as though they are individual cases and not symptomatic of more pervasive bad business practices within the facility and leadership. Many of the people that are participating in the misleading of the membership are mentioned by name within these reviews to include the individual who signed up my family. I will leave you to your own research in that regard.
This facility is not anywhere near as advertised. I would not recommend it to anyone moving forward. I would and will be driving an additional 15 min one way in the future to avoid this facility. It would be my suggestion you do the same.

I used to have an issue with working out on my own. Like most people, I have physical issues/limitations that would either get in the way, or I would hurt/pull something and have to stop for a while. I had not maintained a consistent workout program for, well, decades. A little over four years ago, I started personal training with Wendy at the Arena Club. In that time, I can count on one hand the number of times I have had to pause my journey for those kind of things, which is frankly a miracle. I'm down over 40 pounds, stronger than I have been since college and my blood pressure and heart health are vastly improved. Wendy works with and around my limitations on a session by session basis and gets the most out of me without overdoing it. Its the ONLY reason I am at the place I am now and able to continue to get stronger and healthier without hurting myself. Thank you Wendy.

I wanted to take the time and write about one of your trainers, Tim Cain.
You see, I joined the Arena Club about 6 months ago after being totally bored at a place call PF which I had attending for a number of years.
I have always been a fitness nut and have lifted weights, taken martial arts, done long distance running, played competitive golf through college, and generally worked out for over 50 years!! Yes, I'm as old as dirt, BUT since joining The Arena Club and working with Tim Cain 2x per week for approximately 4 months I have developed the strength and stamina needed to stay fit and exceed my personal goals.
Tim always pushes me and challenges "my old muscles" to a level most people my age would collapse, but I enjoy it. Please understand he is always conscious of any pain or discomfort and makes sure I am performing the exercise correctly. Never have I walked away with any pulled muscles or joint pain...only exhaustion.
Thank you Tim and I look forward to continuing the sessions of "Gain without Pain".

If I could give a zero I would. I observed how they treated a member which was degrading and disrespectful. They violated the members rights, a clear violation of the first amendment of freedom of speech. As he calmly and in barely a whisper voiced his opinion about something, it clearly was against management's position. The way she (the manager) treated him was disgusting. I'll never go there again and if someone is thinking about joining, you should try someplace else that will respect you as a person and not treat you like a piece of dirt.

So I booked at Birthday Party at the Arena Club for my 5 yr olds birthday. It was supposed to be a pool party. Everyone shows up in bathing suits and cover ups ready to swim. On arrival I went up to the desk to check in and I was told “the pool is closed we are moving you into the Trampoline Room due to rain”. I looked stunned obviously and said “oh I didn’t get a call” the woman told me “oh we would never call”. Our party was 3:30 to 5:30. While I understand “I can’t control the weather” as she said numerous times…. you can control a phone and you could have called. I was TOLD my party that I was paying for was being changed to something I DID NOT WANT. If I wanted a jump party I would have booked it! I was also told when I asked what can be done I have 2 choice's. #1 just proceed as I booked a trampoline party (and we might get to swim if it stops “thundering” which we did not)or #2 pack up and leave and reschedule your pool party. As you might of expected I CANT CHOOSE #2 WHILE I HAVE THE BIRTHDAY KID AT MY SIDE READY FOR HIS PARTY! But if you called…..could have. I was also told it was a good thing they didn’t already have a party scheduled in the Trampoline room cause they’d have no where for us to go lol (guessing they still wouldn’t have called then either). The trampoline area is disgusting and people are working out everywhere. Toddlers running around a gym where people are working out….literally running across the floor pulling weights in the direct line from the table to the trampoline (it’s not people working out fault. It’s managements). Toddlers and weights don’t mix. Kids that aren’t part of the party are in the areas they were supposed to be in ext. It had no a/c in July in a gym where the only thing to do is jump. No communication what so ever. It would have been nice to ACTUALLY HAVE A CHOICE instead of walking in and BEING TOLD this is what we are doing and if you don’t like it oh well. After being told what type of party I was having even though I didn’t want it cause I was never given the choice I was also told they were only going to charge me “member price” on the trampoline party. lol NEVER AGAIN. Fortunately my son just took one for the Arena Club team and didn’t cause a fuss. But me….oh I’m pissed. COMMUNICATION IS KEY!!!!! Use it sometime.

Terrible gym with dishonest, unethical ownership/ management. Believe every single one star review you see, this is how they behave. I can understand the 5 star reviews, when you join and get an OK rate and everything seems new and shiny you might feel that way, but give it time. Once your promo rate falls off and they are blasting you for 100$+ a month per person and you realize how nothing gets repaired or cleaned, you may reconsider, then when you go to quit, they will 100% take you to collections if you were on a contract. Good luck.

A+ Arena Club
As a former member of another gym that abruptly closed down, I commend The Arena Club for showing compassion and integrity to the many then-displaced members in our community. We were given very short notice that our club was closing, and The Arena Club quickly welcomed all of us new members with open arms. They went above and beyond by adding new equipment and additional group fitness/Pre-K classes. They even made space for an entire swim team!
Over the past 2 years, The Arena Club has provided us with the same high-quality, integrity-driven service we received from day 1. The staff is friendly & helpful; the facilities are clean & exceptionally maintained; we regularly receive club communication via text, email & social media… the list goes on.
Best of all is that Arena is a locally-owned and operated business. The owners have provided our community with a beautiful, family-friendly and extremely well-kept facility for over 20 years. In a world where big business has become the norm, it’s a welcome change to see & talk with the owners & know that they care. In my opinion that’s priceless!

STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY!. I had an extremely disappointing experience at this gym. When selling the membership, they do a great job of concealing the cancellation fee clause and rush you into signing a contract that makes it nearly impossible to cancel. They impose a $200 cancellation fee in addition to two months of membership dues, totaling $500 just to walk away. My desire to cancel stemmed from a disturbing incident in the sauna. An individual, who identified as an Israeli military soldier, was openly bragging about killing Palestinians and expressed intentions to return and commit more violence. As a Muslim, I felt deeply threatened and unsafe. When I brought this to the management's attention and requested either his removal or a fee-free cancellation of my membership to avoid confrontation, they initially promised to resolve the issue and release me from the contract without additional fees. However, I was later blindsided with a court summons for small claims to pay $1,300. This gym clearly supports individuals who espouse genocidal ideologies, making it a dangerous environment for Arabs and Muslims in Harford County. I urge everyone, especially those from these communities, to stay away from this gym. Their lack of accountability and support for such dangerous behavior is appalling. Stay away for your safety and peace of mind. I will see you in court with my lawyer.

To preface, the business has great amenities and the staff is friendly. The gym equipment is great. I’ve never had an issue finding equipment to use.
However, my boyfriend has been a member of the arena club for years and we signed to add me on the plan. We were not told I could not be taken off the plan. They did not explain anything to us and it wasn’t even written on the couples contract we signed. He went in to take me off because we moved into a place with a gym. I have chronic anxiety and having a gym closer to me was just better for me personally. He was told he could not move down to a solo plan, he could just remove me from the membership and have an empty slot but still have to pay for a couples plan.. he was aware it was a yearly contract and he had to follow through on his year, he just wanted to make it cheaper as he is the only one going to use it. He has been a member with the Arena Club for awhile, the staff knows him! It speaks volumes how this company will treat a long time member.
What happened if it was worse case.. we broke up or I had passed away.. extreme scenarios but the worker told him there was absolutely no way he could change the contract but they were able to change the contract from a single to a couples a few months into his own single contract.. that’s shady to me.
The contracts with the Arena Club are weird in my opinion. If you are not ONE HUNDRED PERCENT committed, I would not recommend using this business.

Obviously makes it easy to hide stuff like this. I love how I was told one thing by Carmen who was definitely aware of our situation and she did not follow through. Again, I have no physical copy of my contract and never was explained anything like this.
Decent gym at best. Machines are typically full. Classes vary from instructor to instructor so one day you have a great class and the next it’s awful. Bathrooms are disgusting. Parking sucks when it’s busy. Pools are constantly dirty. When we signed up, we told the membership lady that we would be moving in a few months, and she put a clause in our contract about this. I was never informed in the details, assuming they would be honest at best. Fast forward to when we move and looks like I have to keep the contact for another 5 months. Or I can transfer my membership for $40 to ‘someone on Facebook Marketplace’. Beware, you cannot get out of your contact and don’t trust them.

We have lived in Harford County for decades. We finally chose to join the Areana Club. The pool area, pickle-ball courts, classes, hot tub, equipment are all wonderful. It is obvious that this is a family owned business. Every area is so clean & cared for. All of the staff are so kind & professional. We just spent Father’s Day here with our three adult kids. We had the best day running into old friends & meeting new ones. We are excited to enjoy this wonderful club and so grateful for all the thought & love that has obviously gone into owning & operating it 💕

Joined when BAAC closed. Tried super hard to like it and make it work for our family. The amenities they offer for children were never available for use, other than super small time frames each day. Our kids never really got to the use the trampoline. Childcare options were very limited on weekends. Sundays they didn’t even have arena kids, so older kids sit in front of video games while you work out. They don’t do a good job of optimizing their facilities for members. If there is a sporting event or birthday party, members are just out of luck! When the dome is up, the only option for older kids to swim and have fun, is the therapy pool. If your kid makes the slightest splash or loud noise, they are given dirty looks by those using the pool. Which I totally understand, (it’s annoying for those getting therapy) and there should be another option. Another way the facilities aren’t being utilized properly. They have a whole lap pool that could be divided during wintertime, for recreational swimming.
They also pulled some shady contract on us. We signed up month to month (which was what we assumed) we signed a contract that said one thing (no term or commitment) and then when we went to cancel, we were given an altered version of our contract. They changed it after we had signed it. Thought that was not good business and I heard they did that to a lot of people. Also saw lots of reviews on here from many people over the years complaining about how they deceived them into an annual contact without their knowledge, so it seems to be a regular thing for this place.
I was not pleased with the level of customer service I was met with whenever I had a concern or complaint. The locker room is always full of puddles from people coming in from the pool. They have signs up about toweling off, but people don’t listen. They also always have little boys that are way too old coming into the ladies' lockers room. The showers are super small, stink like sewer and are full of hair. Whenever I voiced any complaint, I was not treated nicely by any member of the staff.
I know some people really enjoy the arena club. I’m not sure how? The whole vibe in the place was not welcoming or fun! For single people or married people without kids maybe it’s the vibe you’re looking for?

The Arena Club in Churchville, the staff are amazing from sales all the way through. Carmen Duvall, went above and beyond for our group of over 20 people who wanted to spin together when our studio closed in January 2022. We came to the Arena Club and she met with us, discussed all our options and gave us such positive service. She is so kind and caring! I had to put my membership on hold in December 2022 and they did not charge me at all to freeze the account while my leg healed from an injury- no questions asked.
Then there are all the instructors we deal with in spin and throughout the club. They are always so fun, great classes and so supportive. This place is a true family atmosphere! Love The Arena Club and couldn't imagine going anywhere else.

Love this place and all the employees! I had been a member of a Cycling Studio that closed. I was so bummed, but a group of us decided to check out the Arena. Their sales rep, Carmen, met with us the next night and gave us all the time we needed to answer every question we had. Carmen even had a special spin class for all of us so we could check out the bikes and the style of the class. Their monthly dues are less than the Studio and I get so much more! Every employee I have talked to there has always been helpful and NICE. I even asked once if they have to pass a nice test to be hired. Its been over a year, and have never regretted joining. Call, go in, ask for Carmen. Glad I did!

The facility is beautiful and very modern, however, the front desk is a bit rude and sarcastic. Also, with signing up for events, it would be more convenient to sign up online than rather coming in. The kids play center is very nice with a trampoline and sports for children but hours are limited.

I joined the gym January of this year, I have found that this gym is a little farther away from my house and not a good fit for my schedule. I asked what the cost would be cancel my membership, understanding that having the membership less than a year would be early termination. Canceling is apparently not an option, I am a prisoner or the arena club until I complete my year sentence. Sadly inmates get treated better for good behavior. This is ridiculous, be very careful before signing your life away to this gym!!!!

They advertise a basketball court but you cannot use it on weekdays due to Volleyball practice. It's only available on weekends and while it's available they are throwing kids birthday parties which makes it impossible to actually use it properly. They also don't allow you to use the outdoor facility as it's only for sports. With the amount of money you pay for a membership it would be nice if everything you are paying for was actually available.

Extremely pricey for what you actually get. Let me start by saying there was a sweaty young guy working out (all over the weight area) with bare feet no socks. His entire workout. Don’t get me wrong I understand taking your shoes off at a squat rack while still wearing socks to do squats but walking back and forth all over the gym, getting water, and using different machines with NO SOCKS…come on that’s just disgusting. Even though you have access the the basketball court, trampoline jump area, pool they are constantly being closed for “cleaning”, birthday parties, or volleyball practice, field hockey or games. There is a very VERY short window which is always an inconvenient time that you can actually have access to these things. How can you charge people so much then rent out the space to make more money it’s just crazy. Definitely not a welcoming “club” feeling at this place. It’s a shame because it has potential. Also there are these odd daycare rule, hours, ages. Just BEWARE and talk to more than a couple people before you decide to join. There are all these odd rules posted everywhere which no one even enforces. If this gym didn’t make you sign a year contract you would have a lot of people leaving after their first month or two of joining. Even the women’s and men’s sauna very small, always packed, never enough room. Even when you get in to the sauna you can’t adjust the heat to make it hot enough to reap the health benefits. Just a waste of space. This place has ZERO mirrors as well. Correction* they have some “half” mirrors which if you under the height of 5’10” you probably won’t be able to see any of your workouts. No mirrors for squats on any squat rack. Think about that when you tour the place and imagine doing weightlifting with no mirrors. Yes, weightlifting with no mirrors….insane.

Overpriced. Gym for retirees not anyone serious about their fitness. If there was anything better we would leave. No mirrors in dead lift area. Hours are embarrassingly early for what we pay. 4pm on the weekends? Sorry if you have a job. I’m paying for classes I don’t take. The pools are a scam. A swim team uses the only lap pool 6 nights a week for 3 hours 530-830pm ALL YEAR ROUND. Sorry if you wanted to swim. The big pool with the slide is great for families except it doesn’t open until 3pm in the summer. Did it not occur to them parents have kids all day in the summer? For what they charge they could hire more lifeguards. Dont look too closely at the floors, they’re pretty nasty for a gym that charges over $100 a month. Child care is extra and even more limited on hours. Wish HarCo had better gyms.

Over the years it has declined. The free weight area layout was changed a couple years ago and everyone is now on top of each other. The racks are situated in front of several benches and dumbbell racks so you’re distracted by everyone in front of you. And the equipment never gets repaired in a timely manner. Almost 3 months!!! Considering the age of some pieces of equipment it’s time it gets replaced.

I had a birthday party for my daughter here and i will never ever recommend this place to anyone. The party was rushed and the staff was very rude to my guest. I feel like its a big rip off for all the money they charge for a kids birthday party just to feel rushed. So please read reviews before booking a party. This was my first time here and i thought i would give it a try. They treat guest very rude and nasty. ( they wouldn't even let a child change there wet clothes). I give this place 0 stars. Terrible service. Also stating me and my guest were yelling at staff ( was a lie) but then act all nice in my face. I WILL NEVER BE GOING BACK!!!!!! TERRIBLE STAFF THAT HOST PARTY'S AND ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEY. ( SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE RACIST AS WELL) i just wanted to share my experience here. Also I have plenty of witnesses that stated NO ONE was yelling at the staff. I also heard one of my guest couldn’t even use the bathroom when first walked in. That is not right and no one should be treated in that way. The kids couldn’t even change clothes I have multiple complaints about that. You don’t take peoples money and miss treat the guest. That is also embarrassing on my end rushing everyone out. I also heard multiple complaints that members and staff were looking at my guest as if what are we doing here. I PAID ALOT OF MONEY for this party to be treated wrong because we are not members. What a waste of money.
Thank you

My husband, myself and our family became members of The Arena Club during the pandemic. I was 100% against it, but began to love it since it offered child care as I worked out. I’m going to tell you the truth, we would move back to Maryland in a heartbeat to be back at The Arena Club.
We PCS’d to Savannah, GA and there is absolutely nothing that can compare. We’re stuck with dingy looking gyms they don’t even offer half of what The Arena Club offers. Yes, it is pricey. But let’s compare their amenities to other gyms within the area - space, physical therapy, indoor/outdoor pool, sauna, child care, preschool, their own clothing, trampoline park, basketball court, classes, etc! The list goes on. Now let’s go onto the family I developed while being members there.
Everyone, legit everyone, became family! The members, the employees, and child care staff. We miss and so desperately want our child care employees back. We loved utilizing their parents evening out program. But everyone cared for our children as if they were their own. The front desk employees are beyond phenomenal as well. I miss seeing their smiling faces and recognizing who we are.
The facility is clean! It’s modern, up-to-date, and simply clean! Hard to find a clean gym! It was never crowded, never too loud, and there was never a time where a machine was “out of order.”
My husband and I miss The Arena Club so much that we are trying to come up with an idea for how we can develop something similar, but with our own ideas, in the Georgia/ South Carolina area. Cause good lord, we need it down here! So if the owner is reading this, please reach out! We miss y’all!

The Arena Club has been an important part of my life since the club opened about 20 years ago. I encourage you to visit their website for a more comprehensive look - the instructors, equipment, programs, cleanliness, staff.. all top notch. Its too much info for a review. So this quick summary features what is important for me. I love that classes include real-time MyZone effort and stats. The MyZone heart monitor option is an important fitness tool for me (see stock model photo demonstrating how it is worn). After my challenging workout I get rewarded with the hot tub and therapy pool, which are kept in pristine condition. People of all shapes, sizes, levels of fitness and ages will feel at home in this facility which is way more than any gym.

Signing up for this club is like the most painful experience I have ever had with any vendor. If I could leave zero starts I would. I will say it again, very deceptive!!!! She still doesn't acknowledge the text messages. Pre-covid review, but not any better during covid, tbh:
The only thing that saves this gym is the somewhat decent equipment, which you have trouble using because there’s so many people squished into a small area. They’re quite pushy to get you to agree to the year but don’t tell you that you even have to pay a cancellation fee if you have to move or are ill. They do not provide all of the contract info, nor do they say that the contract is not time specific to them, but payment amount. They also push for personal training (a solid portion of the main floor of the gym is dedicated purely to personal training clients), training can be helpful, but they’re extremely expensive and it can feel like you aren’t getting what you should be for the time you pay so much money for. Hours are seriously lacking, as well as classes offered. Too many gyms for less money and similar quality around this area.
Legit cannot wait until I can get away.

As much as I wanted to be part of this "family", I had such an incredibly disappointing experience with The Arena Club.
Even for a fee, you cannot terminate your contract early, which I understand. I asked if I could at least remove my baby and just pay for myself for the last 8 months of the contract since I was no longer able to attend, but was told no. I asked if I could pay the higher month to month fee instead and pay a cancellation fee to get out of the contract, but was told no.
As a result, I have been paying $110 a month for something I can't use, but I willingly accepted that fate since I signed the contract. However, as if taking my money every month isn't enough, now they've increased my costs!!!!!!
Per the contract (and per most contract), they can increase your signed contract price at any time, but it is appalling that they would exercise this right on members who have already signed contracts- especially after knowing that you are no longer able to participate as a member and are not contributing to their overhead in any way. Is squeezing a few extra dollars out of families worth it to them in the end? Apparently, the answer is yes.
I have been a member of many gyms, most of which had contracts. However, this is the first time I have ever encountered such a lack of empathy from a company and the first time I've ever had my contract terms changed mid-contract. Even cell phone companies will work with you.
Sign up with extreme caution. There are many options in the area that are dedicated to their members versus their own pockets.
****Update in response to the owner's reply below- I received the following email from the general manager (see below).
Please do not pretend that you attempted to reach out to me and it is my fault for not "accepting your generosity". That is very far from the truth. It is evident from the email that the decision had been made. The increase will remain on my account and I have no options to cancel. Upon confirmation of that decision, it would be unnecessary to speak about the matter further via phone. Additionally, it is evident that a paper trail is needed when dealing with your company.
The only option I was given was to freeze my account for $15 a month, but this would extend my original contract terms. I would prefer not to line your pockets any further. No compromises were made and you are supporting the decision to raise dues on an account for an individual and a baby that are not contributing to your overhead. Judging on the other reviews, greed is a reoccurring trend with management of The Arena Club.
I look forward to the end date of my contract and encourage the Bel Air community to avoid this toxic establishment, which is a shame because you have some awesome instructors that clearly care about what they do.
Email from General Manager:
"You may contact me directly at the club if you want to discuss further. However as stated in your contract under article 7, section 2, “members’ dues shall be initially the amount indicated herein, but maybe subject to increase. However, any such increase shall not exceed 10% in the first 12 months of their membership” The dues increase was across the board to all members and has no bearing on who utilizes their membership or who does not."

I started going to the Arena club through the physical therapy and joined the RX membership, I really enjoyed it and the therapy pool is awesome, but their rates are to expensive and can't afford to continue because of the price. My RX membership expired and have not received one phone call or a message, if I wanted to continue, I guess they don't understand when people have surgery and have medical bills to pay and I don't like the fact there is only one option of them automatically taking money out of your account...I don't do any automatic withdrawals from my account. With that being said it is a nice club but just can't afford it. It is what it is.... they offer discounts to certain people, but if you don't fall in that criteria oh well, you pay full price.

Unfair and Shameful Business Practices by a local business
We are a longtime resident at the Harford county with family membership at the club for several years. This year our son who goes to college was home for the summer. I asked the business to add him to the family membership for 3 months. To my surprise and utter disappointment I found that we would have to keep him on the membership for full 12 months. Doesn't matter that he will not and can not use the facility for the 9-months! Doesn't matter that the rest of family (3 members) will stay on the contract commitment. I can understand that as a small business they would like to secure annual commitment and that their pricing may be build this way but none of it applies in this case or provides any rationale. Except that the business owners really do not care about building a relationship with the very community that they are dependent on for business. All they seem to care about is how to extract $$$ from members even if it comes at the cost of predatory, unfair and customer unfriendly business practices. It is sad but should not be surprising for such businesses to lose their customers to larger, faceless, non-local corporate who show much more customer friendliness and offer lower cost options. With Planet Fitness, Anytime fitness and many other national chains setting up show in Harford county, it will be tough for businesses like Arena Club to remain viable with such unfair practices. I am just waiting to ride out my contract period before quitting the club for good and never to return back. The whole experience left a really poor taste. AVOID.

Is it in the best interest of the Arena Club to cater to the outrage of one member over the safety of a hundred members and staff? Now there is no music allowed in the pool area. The staff and other members witnessed behavior that should have a zero tolerance. As a member I want to be ensured that when I am in the club working out that my safety is their number one priority.

I’m only giving one star so I can leave this review! I wish I could give zero stars because of Dabney.
Dabney is the most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. She was rude and condescending while reviewing the club with us. She single handedly almost caused us not to join. If she was gone the membership would go way up.
She kept talking about stomping her feet and flipping her hair to get her way at the club- why would you say this to someone?? She also told my wife to ‘say thank you to me’ bc she felt like she was doing something to help us.
The only way we joined was with the agreement that she have nothing to do with our account, but she continues to send email and Try to call us.
We have had other employees agree with us about her and how horrible she is! Do yourself and your gym a favor GET RID OF DABNEY! This is an excellent gym with a substandard employee who is giving them a bad name.
Please do not take this review lightly- we had not posted anything through the issues listed above and many others, but after the most recent incident we couldn’t ignore it any longer.

Worst company ever. Got tricked into a membership by one of the reps and was not informed that I was bought into a contract with this company. Ended up moving a month later to find out that I "couldn't" cancel my membership because I was tricked into a year "contract". Ending up not being able to pay for my membership, and they would not work with me, etc.. went all the way to collections to me being sued for the collection cost of the membership owed. Don't come here, stay the hell AWAY. Worst experience of my life.

This review is for anyone looking to book a party swim event at this club. The facility has reasonable accommodations for a Kid's Birthday swim pool party. However, the experience falls far short for a satisfactory review. Their policy states that food (Pizza/ect) needs to be purchased through the club, and you are not allowed to bring in your own. Understandable, so you think they'd be on time with planning to have your order ready in a desirable time during your 2hr event that costs $290 (plus cost of food). Thought wrong, my experience was they were not ready, and food only was provided about 30 minutes after the 2hr event was supposed to end. We were informed their partnered carryout (Pat's Pizza) only put my pizzas in the oven 20 minutes before the end of the event. When I demanded a reasonable resolution such as a partial refund or discount on a future event, they offered to refund 2 of the 3 pizzas ordered and paid for beyond the $290 fee. That was a poor attempt to resolve my family's frustrations. After the 2 hour mark from the beginning of the event, still no food. Then, they offered for my family who now have been dressed in dry clothes for almost 45 minutes expecting food to be allowed to go back swimming. They clearly have not tried to get dressed again into cold wet clothes. We announced our frustration, and they then offered to refund 3 of the 3 pizzas we paid extra for ($42). My thoughts was this still is not a valid attempt to resolve my family's frustration with the clubs lack of management, and meeting their commitment of providing food in a timely fashion. I had a unsatisfactory discussion with the manager on duty. She dared to then throw it back in my face that this event was a rescheduled event, and I had no real valid right in stating my frustrations with the club failing to meet their committed time of providing my expensive pizza (3 lg = $42). My attempts to reason with her did not end well, and my whole family and friends will definitely forgo this Club on any future family events. In the end, they only provided a refund of the $42 (full price of event with extra Pizza $331 before refund). For this amount of money, I would feel the club would like to save face. To reassure us that they are sincere with their apology for the inconvenience, and hope any of us would do business with them once again. Please do yourself a favor, and avoid this club. Customer satisfaction is definitely not a strong suit for them, and I have had delightful experiences at the Bel Air Athletics Club and the YMCA for winter swim parties at a comparable cost. Ultimately, I can truly say that I left the events at other clubs as a satisfied customer.

Worked with Zack E. to sign up. He was awesome, had all the information I needed and found the answers to some of my more obscure questions. The amenities are amazing and my family has loved the time we have been there. The access to daycare while I work out has also been very convenient as well.

The Arena Club continues to impress me with the myriad of improvements to the facility. The new bike studio is amazing as is the customer service. It is wonderful to be greeted by name upon arrival. And the trainers and staff are top notch. It is a bonus to have this level of exercise facility in Harford County.

I have been a member at the Arena Club for a couple years, and I enjoy using it very much. It's a very clean club and offers something for just about everyone. While using the pool facilities and cardio equipment, I have developed many friendships with both other club members and the friendly staff. It's a fun place to be!

We relocated from Columbia, MD area and we're looking for a gym similar to Lifetime fitness. We thought Arena Club had a similar feel minus the restaurant. We enjoyed the pool during the summer but the hours are horrible. The pool is open late during the week and closes early on the weekends where every other pool in the area is open. Most people with children and normal work schedules would prefer to stay at the pool later on the weekends, makes zero sense. On top on that, they boast this trampoline area but you can barely use it because of restricted hours. Then they have church on Sunday's in their gym, which we are paying for but can't use. It's just ridiculous. Our kids love jumping but we end up having to take them to the jumping place in Harford Mall, on Sundays since we can't use the jumping facilities at Arena club half the time. Not only are they over priced, in order to join they make you commit to a year contract, with no options to get out unless you relocate or have a medical condition and then they make you pay a $200 fee! Things happen to people at anytime, it's such a rip off that you have no option to cancel outside of these 2 things then they ask for more money! We were at Lifetime fitness, which was way nicer, had a restaurant, free classes, pool, etc. for half the cost and the option to cancel with a 30 days notice. They are loosing people because of this 1 year obligation. They say that they do it because they want people to commit to their fitness goals which is bs. People will work out if they choose to and half the time you're paying for a gym and not using the facilities. They do it for money bottom line. Do not join this club. Join small gym and one of the swim clubs in the area or the YMCA.

Management is awful. Pools are always being used for swim team. Church services on Sunday and the parking lot is insane. Members can't use the trampoline park or the rock wall unless it's a special day. Personal training classes upstairs so members can't use that area. Horrible customer service.

We have been going there for two years now, really nice place , friendly staff. The problem is that they are doing church services every Sunday and it is a obstruction every Sunday with them setting up for their circus. The parking lot is crazy, teachers are complaining about noise interrupting classes and we have to answer our kids questions about what those people are doing there. Yes we could avoid Sundays but for us that is the family day together, plus it is just ridiculous having to deal with that going to the gym. It is not going to be long till they start to try to convert people to they religion since they have a billboard up and seems they are there to stay. Going back to bel air athetic club.

The pool is nice during the summer, and the staff is fairly friendly. The real kicker, however, is the 30 days of billing they require if you try to end your membership, even if it is after you've met your obligation for the last year. There really is no excuse for it other than to continue grabbing into your wallet. Frankly I will be happy to be free of their nonsense, and I would warn anyone thinking of joining to really consider for a moment their archaic fee structure before choosing The Arena Club over any number of cheaper, equally nice options (do not let them fool you into thinking they are any better than the YMCA in Bel Air).

We have been members for many years, much of the time paying and not using. We like the club so much that we don't want to give up our membership. Parking is great, and for the most part we find the club to rarely be crowded. The facilities are nice and the staff is friendly. One thing that disappointed me recently was that my wife and I were very interested in enrolling in the Golf fitness class offered during the winter. We inquired at the front desk about this class in the late fall. At first the staffer wasn't aware of this program, but seemed to find it saying it doesn't start until winter, so when we came back after the New Year we were informed that the class only had one opening left and that they couldn't accommodate another participant. We asked to be contacted if an opening occurred, but never heard from anybody. In retrospect I think the first inquiry we made should have resulted in the staffer taking our names for a wait list until the golf fitness class opened up. Someone should have contacted us to see if we were still interested.

The arena club is, in my opinion the best fitness sports club in Maryland. They have personal trainers that will understand any problems you have and will fix them. Your training sessions are private and no information is released from any training program you are participate in. They have treadmills, bikes, elliptical, weights, pool, basketball court inside and outside, volleyball field, water slides, and a sauna. I love the service that the staff provides. Keep up the good work AC!

We went there for a year. I definitely think it's overpriced. We paid $180 for a family of four (me, my husband and 2 kids), which is relatively a lot of money for a family gym. I really think for this price you should be going into something more modern and updated. The lifeguards are super strict. They keep telling you what not to do constantly as you are in the water trying to enjoy the time with the family. This annoys a lot of people. My child got hurt once at their daycare. Some members are super rude and cocky. Overall, I don't think you end up getting what you pay for. Oh and the 1 year contract is a must with them, too, and $200 early termination fee if you cancel without giving them a 30 days notice. It's just too much.

-Front desk staff and Instructors are knowledgeable & extremely friendly.
-Locker Rooms are not staffed, the floors are perpetually wet from swim teams and swimmers.
-There are no classes on Fri afternoon & no challenging classes on Saturday & Sunday after 9 a.m. so if you want a really good workout and you are not an early bird this is not the club for you.
-They offer free hot yoga but if you work during the week you must be in the gym by 7:30 a.m. on Saturday to take advantage of it.
-Machines and cardio equipment are kept in great shape but if that is your main focus pay $10 a month and go to Planet Fitness.

The Arena Club is a fun place to work out. I am a 15 year old boy, and I can workout here with no problems at all. This is the first place in the last two year that I can go out, and not get yelled at saying I'm too young. On top of that, the other things besides the gym are just as nice. The indoor field is outstanding and has many activities for adults and children. The pool is great as well. It has two slides, a great area to move around, a outdoor basketball court, volleyball area, and all around is a great place to have fun and relax. The trainers are outstanding and help you so much! The staff workers are always nice, friendly, and when you need help there always there for you. The Arena Club is AWESOME!!!

My wife and I have been members of the Arena Club for over a year now upon moving to the area. The gym offers good space with an excellent selection of cardio, strength training, and free weight equipment. Having TVs on the treadmills and elliptical machines is a great feature! The indoor field area is also a great space to use when it's not hosting sports camps and training sessions. I have had the pleasure of working with a personal trainer, Jack, while a member. The variety of traditional work outs coupled with unique "on field" training utilizing similar equipment and methods that the pro athletes use really makes the personal training work the money and is a great variety. The locker rooms have been updated and the facility in general is kept clean and well maintained.
Like any gym, it can get crowded in the evenings, especially at the start of the new year, but in general I've never had a problem with not getting on equipment or lack of space. Great place and worth the investment!

Recently, my wife & I joined the Arena Club. We have found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful. My wife had 2 personal training sessions with Nicole and she is an awesome teacher. My goal was the "hot tub" as I have a bad knee and back pain at times. I was instructed on the machines and enjoy the workout. I also always warm up as I have been instructed. I exercise in the therapy pool, head to the hot tub and get into the sauna. The newly decorated locker rooms are great. Also I really enjoyed breakfast on the day of the 10th Anniversary. I look forward to doing some classes with my wife, especially Yoga Flex!

While the facility at the Arena Club is ok - not great - It is crowded with equipment and extremely noisey. Their membership practices are an abomination. Forcing people to contract for a one year period is ridiculous at the onset. I guess the management is truly only after one thing- MONEY - and a pretty hefty amount as well on an annual basis. Oh and by the way if you decide to cancel your membership and you are 1 day over the 30 day required notification (another ridiculous price gouging practice) you will have to pay for the entire next month. They have never heard of prorating- after all that would be a fair business practice and we wouldn't want that to creep into the Club. I feel sorry for their employees, they have no authority to adjuticate a customer complaint - just tell you how sorry they are. Don't go there!!!
