Outstanding staff, trainers and class leaders. Equipment is good and well maintained. My wife and I are at the Y 4-5 times a week and I’ve never had a time where the weight area or classes had too many people. It does get busy at times but there are tons of options and you won’t have trouble getting time on your preferred equipment. My only issue (and this is personally) is that the Y is more of a community center than a gym. There are often a lot of kids running around although the staff keeps them largely out of the gym area and exercise rooms. With that said, the Y is a great value, especially when you throw in the awesome pool and TONS of classes to explore.

decent, and small, gym and a variety of programs.
young women beware!! there are a handful of weird old men who stare and say weird things. the staff doesn’t seem to care, as i’ve reported it a few times. i’ve been going here since i was barely 18 (i’m 20 now), and the old men are persistent with their comments and eyes. maybe it’s because i’m not a minor, and i’ve learned to deal with it, but if that would bother you, do not come here!

Great facility! The staff goes above and beyond in their assistance whether it is questions concerning policy, training, explanations, etc. The facility is clean and well maintained. It's been a great experience and I'm happy to be a member.

The staff are extremely nice and helpful! My kids enjoy the mixed sports sessions and Coach Riley and the other coach (I am sorry, I cannot remember his name!) are SO GOOD WITH THE KIDS! The facility is clean and easy parking. They hose so many fun events! We came to the Trunk or Treat Halloween event and there were SO many activities! My family had a ball! I am so happy we joined!

I started using the pool to swim laps a couple days a week 5 months ago. The pool is divided into lap lanes at various times to allow for continuous swimming. Occasionally, when it is busy, you may have to share a lane with someone, which was a little awkward at first. The friendly lifeguards intercede and pair you up with someone, politely asking you if you may join them in their lane. They know the routines of the regular members and try to fit you in with someone who may be about to finish or swims at a pace similar to yours. Nice friendly atmosphere, clean and great staff. Pool area and locker rooms are clean in great condition.

Both members and staff are very cordial. Staff is always helpful and cheerful. The place is clean, well-lit, and attractive. I have only used the pool (for exercise) and the deck (to relax and dry off), so far. Both are well-maintained and safe.

I’ve been going for about two weeks. I like the trainers in the gym always there to answer questions or give you guidance if needed. The equipment is great everything appears clean. I haven’t had a change to use everything like the pool, bikes, and classes but sure they are great too. The only thing is it does get busy at times and I wish it had 24hr keycard access but other wise great place!

I looked in to joining different gyms, they were either to busy, impersonal, expensive, boring. I decided on the Y because the Y has it all. Clean environment, variety of classes and times, a pool, and I think mostly the people. The Y is not only a gym, the Y is a community, truly a community within the brick and mortar. The Y is for the older, like myself, but also children, teenagers, college students, individuals, families, everyone! I truly love being here and will continue to venture in to new activities!

I just started coming here a couple of weeks ago, after a very long time of not exercising. I absolutely love this place. The staff is helpful and friendly. Facility is clean. I have tried 2 classes so far, and I love the cycling the most. With the group classes everyone is so nice. I feel so accomplished after my work out. The cycling makes you push yourself but it's so worth it, the instructors push you and encourage you. I truly look forward to coming here, because it's for all shapes and sizes, non judgmental, and family-oriented.

My family and I have belonged to this Y for a few years. Seen some improvements - like the pool - but this latest renovation has taken months- and the men’s locker room is still not ready- when the women’s has been finished for about a month. Not sure what’s going on with that…

Also, family swim has been changed to open swim- so we haven’t been going as much as a family to this location. Might start going to the Hanover Y.. it at least had a men’s locker room I can use.. and more family swim.

I usually go to the Towson and I wish Westminster had more family swim times so we can visit this location more often. The lifeguard was so helpful with the swim test for my son. He even taught him so many new techniques. Westminster: please have more family swim days during the week. The people here are much nice and professional than the Towson location!

I love this Y! There's so much to say about how special this place is. From the people to the activities. I started coming over a year ago because I had a stroke and needed to heal physically. I started small with walking on the treadmill. After a few months, I started bringing my sons for stay-and-play. Now, the Y is a central part of our family lives. We do weekly activities, Y Camp in the summer, and are benefitting from the amazing work that the Y does for our community. Thank you so much for all of your work and support. Carroll County is a better place because the Hill Family Y exists.

For someone with a family who would like to work out in the gym outside of their home this is the perfect place. You have so many options of things that you can do it doesn't matter what time of day you go. You have the option to leave the children with the stay and play or you can swim with them or play in the park go on a walk I really feel like this is opened up my options of things I can do with my children and things I can do without my children while they're being taken care of in a safe place

The Hill Y is well equipped, clean, and the people are great. There are lots of classes taught by excellent instructors. The fees are reasonable, particularly when you consider the greater good the YMCA provides in the community (camps, after-school care, etc.). Easily one of the best if not best gyms in the greater Sykesville/Eldersburg/Westminster area. Smaller than Ys I'm used to, but every amenity is still available including a fantastic lap pool that is extremely clean. All COVID protocols are being met; members wear masks at all times and staff is quick to politely and privately ask anyone to continually make sure mask is on during exercise as well. Never had to deal with broken machines or equipment here either. Every staff member is extremely friendly. I come here 6 times a week and each day is a hit. After searching for a gym after a recent move, this is my home for sure.

I don’t leave many reviews but really wanted to share how great the Hill Y had been for our family, and especially our boys (ages 5 and 1). We’ve signed up for extras like swim lessons, basketball, and the sports days, all which are really reasonably priced - especially when compared with competitors in the area like Merritt (which we left for the Y).

We love our swim instructor Ms. Yvonne.

The ladies at the Stay and Play are always friendly and helpful. My little one loves to go in and get their attention.

My oldest also is enrolled in the Chipmunks prek program in Finksburg, again very affordable for members and top-rate, integrated with county kindergarten expectations. Excellent teachers and director to work with and accommodating us mid-season.

The new splash pad has been a great addition and my oldest is already excited for it to open again. If you make regular use of what the Y has to offer like we do, you get great value for the price. It’s truly a second home for us.

I loved the ladies at the front desk. They were helpful, and showed me around. The yoga and pool schedule was ok. It didn't match up well with my work schedule. I was disappointed with the Stay and Play for my daughter. They don't mix her formula or change diapers. And they are closed for a few hours midday. Not worth $90/month just the two of us.

Two stars go to nice pool and a couple of polite, helpful lifeguards. But facility clearly outdated and staff provides no meaningful, helpful communication with members ("how ya doin'" on entry doesn't meet communication needs). Facility needs major renovation/addition. For ex., tiles around pool broken, mats around pool torn, shower area needs more floor mats to prevent falls. Floor in locker room usually dirty. Staff provides no meaningful communication--when women's locker room temperatures plunged to 60 degrees (or possibly below) and stayed there for more than a week, no information was put out re: source of problem, planned repairs, any efforts to ameliorate. Finally, someone put up a small space heater--it didn't help much. Simple things that could be done aren't being done. For ex., yoga classes must meet in bare-floored room adjacent to hallway. Would be nice to have a roll-out carpet. In hallway, kids running by, parents yelling, "Jeremy, get back here!" workout enthusiasts discussing activities make it more difficult to achieve serenity needed for yoga. What staff could do is post a notice in the hall during classes, something like, "Yoga in session. Please be respectful and keep noise level down." Not everyone would comply, of course, but some would.

My family and I have been attending this facility for more than 15 years, paying every $90 monthly bill (perfectly on time) and occasionally volunteering in various capacities. What was once a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere with spartan facilities has become a place that arbitrarily enforces subjective (and unwritten) "rules" that seem to grow in number with every visit, albeit now in a slightly updated and modestly better equipped facility. An example would be the fact that the showers now have hot water. That is not an exaggeration or sarcasm, just the truth.

Lifeguards, day to day, are in no way on the same page, so to speak. What was permissible yesterday is forbidden today, and vice versa. Whoever is on guard duty at any given moment brings their own interpretations of what constitutes "safe" and is in keeping with Y policy. Members are left to guess how to navigate the whims of the (mostly) teenage children and very young adults who are hired to guard the pool.

Items such as kick boards or aquatic bar floats that management leaves all around the deck in plain view and appear to be inviting only draw scolding reprimands if one attempts to use them in any setting other than an aquatics class that is on a schedule.

For the entirety of my membership, I have incorporated laps (25 yards) into my routine which are entirely underwater, surfacing only at the ends of the pool. I am fit and this is in no way stressful or particularly taxing. Quite to the contrary, I find it very relaxing. For me, this has always been an invaluable part of my regimen and it has even helped me recover from sever trauma suffered 18 months ago when I broke 5 ribs and punctured a lung. I have been told that it now violates vague and subjective rules regarding "long breath holding" and that it is forbidden.
THEY NOW PRESUME TO TELL ME HOW TO SWIM !! It is oppressive.
**never mind that competitive swimmers now regularly swim the 50m with their face entirely in the water, never breathing even once. that is a distance more than twice that of a single lap in the pool at this Y facility**

I retrieved a medicine ball (also another valuable part of my routine) from a room that is both an office and a storage room. I have also done this for the past 15+ years. Recently, I was admonished for that to such an extent that the lifeguard ceased to pay any attention at all to the swimmers in the pool - precisely the reason that I've always retrieved the ball myself, so as not to distract the guard away from their primary duties.

Make no mistake, there are plenty of wonderful people at this facility and I have been grateful for many years, however, I will not pretend that there has not been a serious erosion in the enjoyment of my experience of late. It's my experience and everything that I've stated here is factual. It really saddens me and I wish that I were writing an entirely different review.
